There was a particular time dat d pagans were fighting d muslims and some muslims wanted to run to d christians to take refuge so dat they wouldn't be killed by d pagans and Allah revealed a verse dat they shouldn't take d christians as friends/guardians. This means dat they shld stay with their fellow muslims and fight d pagans together. And as per d verse u related jihad as war,yes it's true in dat context meaning they shld strive hard to wage war against d pagans. So it's not really dat jihad literally means holy war.
