A Fulani herdsman who murdered someone after he trespassed his farmland has been sentenced to death.

A Fulani herdsman, Musa Barugun, has been sentenced to death by an Ebonyi State High Court sitting in Abakaliki, the state capital, for allegedly murdering one Chibueze Nkwegu at Sharon town in Izzi Local Government Area of the state.
The punch Newspaper reports that Justice Alloy Nwankwo handed down the sentence on Barugun after the prosecution had proven its case beyond every doubt that in February 2013, the convict had killed the victim during an argument by stabbing him in the chest and stomach with a dagger.
Barugun who at that time, was rearing his cattle in the area, was said to have trespassed on Nkwegu's land and when he was confronted by the deceased, he stabbed the victim to death.

Following the recent conviction of a 17-yearold cattle breeder, Haruna Usman arrested with AK 47 and several ammunitions, by a Kogi State High Court sitting in Lokoja yesterday, end of the era of Fulani herdsmen moving around with arms has come.
Usman was found guilty of stabbing one Happy David following an argument thereby committing culpable homicide.
Armed welding Fulani herdsmen had been terrorizing several states including Enugu, Imo, Ebonyi, Benue, Oyo, Ondo and others in recent time.
Usman, a Fulani boy, faced a one count charge of culpable homicide, punishable with death under Section 221 of the Penal Code.
The offence was committed on July 28, 2015 at Emiworo village in Ajaokuta Local Government Are of Kogi State. To prove its case against the convict, the prosecution called six witnesses and tendered six exhibits.
Usman, on the other hand, gave evidence for himself and called only two witnesses.
Delivering his judgement, the state Chief Judge, Justice Nasiru Ajanah, found him guilty of the offence punishable with death under Section 221 of the Penal Code and consequently sentenced to death.
Usman, who was about 15 years when he committed, stabbed David to death while trying to graze on the farm of the parents of the deceased.
During the trial, the prosecution had told the court that the deceased, a residence of Emiworo in Ajaokuta Local Government, told the convict not to graze his cattle on the farmland, saying chemical had been sprayed on the land and could harm cattle. It was added that as the deceased turned to leave, Usman stabbed David at the back and ran away.
The mother of the deceased, who was the second prosecution witness, told the court that he died as a result of the stabbing.
Justice Ajana, however, held that after the prosecution and the defence had presented their cases, the prosecution was able to prove its case that Usman killed David.
He said the doctor’s report presented before the court also corroborated the fact that “a penetrating object that caused the laceration had also pierced the diaphragm” of the deceased.
Part of the sentence read thus: “I am therefore convinced from the evidence of the PW2, the picture of the deceased (exhibit 1) and the medical report (exhibit 2) tendered by the prosecution which established the fact the deceased was stabbed in his stomach area by the vicious and unprovoked act of the accused, that the said accused intended the natural consequence of his act.”
“I am therefore also convinced that the prosecution has proved the third ingredient of the offence of culpable homicide beyond reasonable doubt.
I, therefore, in the circumstance of this case, find the accused guilty of the offence of culpable homicide punishable with death under Section 221 of the Penal Code.”

In the afternoon of Easter Sunday, one Wasiu Idris, a famous member of the Aiye Confraternity, was murdered in the Sakama area of Niger Road in Ilorin, Kwara state. The death of Idris, also known as "Wasiu Igbo-Owu" or "Adanri," was reportedly carried out by members of a rival cult gang.
Idris, who was in his early 40s, was well known in the neighborhood as a leader in his confraternity. He is also known as one of the elite thugs in the camp of Senate President Bukola Saraki.
The deceased, who was living in Saudi Arabia, returned to the country on the eve of the last general election to resume work as a political agent.
According to National Pilot, a local publication owned by Saraki, Idris was on the balcony of his house when four gunmen arrived and shot him at close range.
"His assailants ensured that he was dead before leaving the scene in a commando style,” the paper reported.
It went further to state that the attackers came to the area through Baboko axis around 3:46pm and escaped through Edun axis. One of them, the paper added, was masked.
The murder of Idris was the latest episode in the fierce cult gang rivalry that has become a staple in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital. This death, however, produced less shock than that of Bayo Ajia, who was hacked to death by members of a rival gang on January 19 at his carwash business situated under the popular Stadium Bridge, along the Ibrahim Taiwo Road.
Earlier that day, another top thug, Bukola Ajikobi, had been assassinated in Ilorin.
It was widely believed that Ajia himself was plotting the murder of Ajikobi when he received a call to meet someone, probably a confidant, at his carwash. Ajia, who always moved around with a bevy of well-armed thugs, however, headed to the car wash all by himself and was killed.
In 2004, Ajia was sentenced to death for the twin murders of AbdulYekeen Gobir and AbdulGaniyu Hussein. Both men were murdered in cold blood while partying at Deen’s Motel in Ilorin.
Ajia's appeal against the death sentence went to the Supreme Court, where it was affirmed. But towards the end of his tenure as Kwara State Sovernor, Mr. Saraki granted him amnesty and he was freed from death row.
But Ajia was not just another cult kingpin. He was a premium thug used by Saraki against political opponents. And on his return from prison, he took off from where he left in the service of Saraki.
In fact Ajia’s death was ascribed to insinuations that he was knocked off by Saraki because he was blackmailing the Senate President late 2015.
The use cultists as thugs in Kwara politics was premiered a few years after the return of civil rule in 1999. The late Muhammed Lawal, who was governor at the time, recruited cultists around 2002 because he needed them in the fight against the Saraki dynasty, which wanted him stopped from being re-elected in 2003.
The Sarakis, who operated a major political machine, also had a most vicious army of thugs and cultists. Lawal was no match for the family regarding finance and violence. Also, to the advantage of the Sarakis was the possession of a ruthless propaganda machinery, which was efficient in shifting the blame for the actions of their thugs to others.
By the time Mr. Saraki became governor in 2003, the use of cultists as political thugs had become a state policy. Thugs like Bayo Ajia and Ariyo were placed on salaries and were prominent members of the Bukola Saraki political team.
Along with their political uses, they continued as cultists carrying out hits and reprisal attacks on rival gangs. Attending parties in the city became a hazardous undertaking because violence, often involving murders, frequently erupted.
Many of the nightclubs in the Ilorin GRA are run by cultists, whose strong political connections ensure that such clubs got regular security cover, with security agencies turning a blind eye when they committed atrocities.
Cult killings in Ilorin, people in the town, said, also, take the form of ritual killing of young women for traditional purposes. Rumors suggesting this are especially rife when the late Olushola Saraki, Senate President Bukola Saraki’s father, was ill. The recent killings of some young women in the GRA area has also been linked to the problems arising from the Senate President's prosecution for false assets declaration by the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).

The escalation of violence in the state, many are convinced, is directly linked to Saraki’s vice-like grip on political affairs in the state. Saraki decides who receives financial remuneration for political loyalty and when. He also has the mercenaries for whipping dissidents back into line as part of his political machinery.
Any member of his political camp that exhibits an independent streak is put down via suspension, ostracism, and exclusion from the state-funded largesse. This implies that a dissident may find himself moved from relative comfort to grinding poverty.
Most of the cultists have no real life skills and see Saraki as the only passport to living a comfortable life. This makes them ready to maim and kill whenever they are activated to do so. She is a great mother and a wonderful wife. She has also done Nigeria proud by winning the Miss United Nations (World) pageant in Kingston, Jamaica, in 2014 where she defeated contestants from 115 other countries and was crowned queen. She is an actress by profession and has played roles in quite a number of Nollywood productions and films. She has just started her own film production company and clothes line and she works exceptionally hard. When it comes to politics, she is a real firebrand and has very strong views too even though she only shares them with me. In her, I have found a good wife, a worthy friend and a dependable soul mate and I am very proud of her. I am also very proud of our beautiful son Aragorn. He is my first son and he is my life. He is my strength, my pride and my joy and after I am long gone he will carry the Fani-Kayode name and flag till he passes it on to his own son. I am proud of all my beautiful daughters as well and I love them all. Their names are Folake, Temitope, Tobiloba, Tumininu and my darling Princess Remilekun. Nigerians have been urged to disregard the false publication against the Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Idris in an online blog by one purported Ebiowei Dickson published in worldtopnewsng.com with the headline IGP Ibrahim Idris’s Unending Baggage Controversies.
In a press release in Abuja on Tuesday by the National Coordinator of the United Young Professionals, Adewole Kehinde, he wondered why those blackmailing IGP Idris will now resolve to blackmailing the family since they failed to bring down the amiable Inspector General of Police as a person.
“All the news about Mrs Astha Ibrahim Idris published blog was total false that can’t be substantiate by the reporter who purported the fake news since they failed in many ways to bring down the amiable and focused Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Idris, Adewole said.
He further reiterated “It is a known fact that women especially from the North are so respectful and don’t control or give their husbands condition to leave in harmony, we wondered whether the purported Ebiowei Dickson was the one that witness the so called “conditions” given to IGP Idris by Mrs Astha Ibrahim Idris.
“It is a known fact that postings of Squadron Commanders and contracts in Nigeria Police are done by the Police Management Team, we wondered how Mrs Astha Ibrahim Idris who is not a member of the Management Team collects “between One Million Naira to Three Million Naira, from conventional Police Officers, who are desirous of conversion and becoming Mobile Commanders”. What is the salary of conventional Police officers to have cough out One Million Naira to Three Million Naira to Mobile Commanders?

It was gathered that Astha bowed to the pressure by IGP Idris, after he argued that bringing forth such an undesirable child to the world will lay credence to Senator Misau’s allegation that she was already four months pregnant before the nuptial knot was tied.
However, DSP Astha’s reluctant acceptance of this ignoble act is not without pre-conditions. The conditions given to IGP Idris are that since he has caused her resignation and abortion, he is to secure her future and ensure that she is financially grounded, while he holds sway as the IGP in an event of any eventuality. He is to abandon his first wife and his official residence and relocate to her house in Maitama for her emotional stability. He is also to maintain limited relationship with his children who expectedly, were opposed to the marriage.
In this vein, postings of Squadron Commanders and contracts in the Police are now influenced by DSP Astha. In order to be posted in areas considered lucrative, she collects between One Million Naira to Three Million Naira, from conventional Police Officers, who are desirous of conversion and becoming Mobile Commanders. A case in point is the recent removal and subsequent reversal of some Mobile Commanders in Lagos and some other viable Squadrons. The reversals, it was gathered, were effected after millions of naira exchanged hands between Mrs. Astha Idris and the affected Squadron Commanders, with the exception of one of the Commanders, an Indigene of Adamawa State of Fulani extraction who was unable to meet the Ten Million Naira mark bribe demand. He then sought the intervention of Mrs. Zahra Buhari Indimi, who contacted the IGP and his removal as Squadron Commander from one of the Squadron Commands in Lagos was reversed.
Another interesting abuse of office and rubber stamping of corruption by IGP Ibrahim Idris as gathered by this reporter is the so called reorganization of the Police X Squad. The X Squad which is an arm of the Nigeria Police Force was created to fight the menace of corruption, within the Force and the society in general. It was an integral part of the Force Criminal Intelligence and investigation Department, under the supervision of a Deputy Inspector General of Police, but now excised from the FCIID and placed under the direct supervision of IGP Ibrahim Idris. It is gathered that the X Squad is indirectly under the direct control of Mrs. Astha Ibrahim Idris, who influenced the appointment of her erstwhile boyfriend, DCP Ameachi, a former Aide de Camp (ADC) to late Mrs. Stella Obasanjo, as its Commander.
Sources from the Force Headquarters revealed that DSP Astha was snatched from the said DCP Ameachi by DIG Habilla (DIG Ops) before she was subsequently snatched by IGP Ibrahim Idris. The X Squad is structured into Zonal Commands at the instance of Astha and provided with brand new operational vehicles, while most of the Divisional headquarters of the Nigeria Police that bear the burden of Policing are left without operational vehicles or at most have rickety and unserviceable vehicles. The brief of the X Squad Commander in this regard is simple; ensure the flow of returns from the Squad to DSP Astha Ibrahim Idris for her ‘financial security’, as agreed with the IGP.
Further investigation conducted made startling revelation that, to secure a contract or any other favor from the Police, the person(s) will have to pass through DSP Astha Idris, who is effectively the defacto IGP. On every contract secured through her influence, she makes between five to twenty percent of the total contract sum which is usually paid upfront in cash.
Sources close to the first Police family have it that there is no love lost now between him and his first wife, Mrs. Asmau Ndayako Idris, who he suspects is plotting to poison him, since he took DSP Astha as his third wife, after the Liberian-New York based woman, whom he impregnated, while on a UN mission in Liberia, when he was a CSP. The reasons for this domestic instability is IGP Idris’s relocation from his official residence to her (Astha’s residence) somewhere in Maitama, at her prompting.
Princess Asmau Ndayako, who had put in so much, including her inheritance, in sustaining the family and footing the bills of their former rented apartment in Garki before his new found economic footing as an IGP, is today an unhappy woman who bore her pains and humiliation in dignified silence but is full of regrets, haven been treated shabbily by a man whom she had prayed fervently for his success, using her royal connection through the late Emir of Borgu, Alhaji Dantoro, said to be very close to President Muhammadu Buhari and the current Etsu Nupe to ensure that he was the candidate of choice to occupy the coveted seat of the Inspector-General Police (IGP), only to realize that her efforts, turned into nightmares threatening the foundation of their marriage and her happiness after his appointment as IGP.
She is not alone in this undignified treatment meted by the IGP and DSP Astha, so also are his children. The situation is unbelievably bizarre that DSP Astha has surreptitiously barred the children’s mobile phone numbers from the IGP’s line, thereby preventing them from reaching and talking to their father who has become an absentee father since his marriage to DSP Astha.

Chukwuka16: @ OP, the posts and pictures are deeply appreciated. However, we must be able to ask the hard questions for posterity sakes. There is no doubt that the library was indeed funded at the taxpayers expense.
The donations surrounding the fundraising for the libraries would have been condemned in developed worlds. Where did the state governors at time of fund raising get the funds to contribute? Can we trace and investigate the motivation for the huge donations from Elumelu (Transcorp, STB purchasing UBA etc.), Jim Ovia, Otedola etc. Was their donations a form of kickbacks?
The library has come to stay, but at what cost to society? How many kids would have been educated? How many roads would have been built? How many hospitals fully functional? What is the opportunity cost for the library?
Shying away from these questions imply we either have short-term memories or are afraid of the elites. It is because we failed to put this library on the spotlight that upcoming crooks are becoming brazenly bold and daring in their looting of our commonwealth.
The library is cool, but at what cost to society?

The Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption, PACAC, Prof Itse Sagay, has reacted to the comment by the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, where he alleged that former President, Olusegun Obasanjo forced the then governors to contribute N10m each to his Presidential Library.
Fayose had last week claimed that Obasanjo forced all state governors during his administration to contribute N10m each, amounting to N360m to the Presidential Library project which was inaugurated recently in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Speaking with The Sun, Sagay said both Obasanjo, Fayose and other affected governors should be prosecuted for using state funds for personal project.
Berating Fayose and the other governors for contributing public funds to the project, Sagay stressed that it was wrong for the governor to be the raising the issue now.
According to the governor, “I believe it. There was a lot of complaints at that time that Chief Obasanjo was twisting the arms of those governors and other public officials to donate to the library.
“As someone said in a write up recently that you are not even supposed to donate public money to a private library. What Fayose and the governors did was improper, and it sounds very ill in the mouth of Fayose to raise this issue now.
“Why did he do it in the first place? It sounds very ill in his mouth that he committed an illegality and when you fell out with the man in whose favour you committed it you now come out and begin to cry foul.
“He should be the first person to be punished because he put his hands into state funds and donated it to a private person. In fact, he has convicted himself already of stealing N10 million from his own government. That is disturbing.
“In law, both the receiver and the giver are guilty. There is no question about that. So, Fayose, as well as the other governors, the givers and Obasanjo the receiver are guilty and should be prosecuted.”
Obasanjo library: SERAP seeks law on disclosure of donations to fund presidential libraries

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, has urged the Acting President Professor Yemi Osinbajo to “urgently propose a bill that would specifically regulate and bring transparency to any future presidential library fundraising process, and make public disclosure of major donations towards the establishment of any such library mandatory.”
The organisation said that, “Osinbajo should work closely with the leadership of the National Assembly to ensure the speedy passage of any such bill into law.”
In a statement dated March 5 and signed by SERAP Senior Staff Attorney, Timothy Adewale, the organisation said: “The proposed bill would give Nigerians a better view of major donations going to presidential libraries, and provide access to information as to whether donors gain any special Aso Rock influence. The bill would minimize the potential for a quid pro quo, influence-peddling; and help to build trust and confidence among a citizenry that already questions the ethics of elected officials.”
The statement reads in part: [b]“Proposing bill that would provide information to Nigerians and allow them to know those who help pay for presidential libraries is not only a matter of public interest but also crucially important to enhance transparency, accountability and strengthen this government’s anti-corruption efforts.”
“It’s unfair to Nigerians for a sitting or former president to raise an unlimited amount of money for a presidential library and not to have the obligation to publish information on the major contributors. Without transparency into donations, a president could potentially take an official action in exchange for or in expectation of a future donation to his or her presidential library and the public would be unaware.”
“Without openness and transparency, potential donors may seek to use library donations as a means to secure special access or political favours to authorities in Abuja.”
“The proposed bill should include a requirement to disclose details about each contributor, the total value of each contribution, the source(s) of the contribution, and the date of each contribution. Any such information must be publicly and widely published, including on a website that is free for the public to access and that is searchable, sortable, and downloadable.”
“The bill should also prohibit the making of a contribution through a corporation or other legal entity that may be used to conceal the identity of the person actually providing the contribution.”
“Former President Olusegun Obasanjo would serve public interest by making a voluntary disclosure of every single donation, particularly large donations, to his newly launched presidential library. This would contribute to greater openness, something that the presidential library seeks to promote about the work and achievements of Obasanjo while in government.”[/b]
