I want to find out if polygamy is actually a sin? considering the fact that even in the bible several patriarch of the faith were polygamous. Also up until the 1970s and even 80s it was so very normal for a man to have more than a wife. I remember our growing up, my dad's driver had three wives, my dad had three as well then though. All of African history polygamy has as culture has never been disputed or contested. Whereas modernization has helped create awareness against it, my opinion is, just like every other human endeavors polygamy has its good and its bad. I strongly believe polygamy is not good for men that are not rich . It is pretty very straight forward. That said, In the last 30yrs that polygamy has been declining , have you guys noticed the sharp increase in the number of ladies over 35yrs yet unmarried. Can anybody who was around in the 70s and 80s remember ever having any aunty that was over 35 and wasn't married, but i am sure virtually every one of us has a family member or friend that is a woman above 35 yrs yet unmarried. Lets be careful what we copy from white people. Your average white man divorces at least 3 times in his life time. They barely spend 4yrs in a relationship before they move on to the next one. Larry King is a classic example, I have lost count of how many times he's been married now. Bottom line let those who have the resources and wisdom to marry a second or third wife do so, I don't think we should worry too much about what two adults agree to do with their lives. The white people who criminalize polygamy legalize same sex marriage . I for one find one relationship cumbersome enough , I don't have the strength to manage two women but for the brothers that are gifted with the spirit of patience and are RICH , pls let them go ahead and marry as many as they can take care, lets stop criminalizing polygamy it has been with us in Africa for centuries, compulsory monogamy is barely 50yrs old on this continent. My two cents |
He would have been shot dead if it was the US. |

You know i always wonder if 80% of people residing in Lagos knew Abuja existed. Cos if they did they wont stay one day longer in Lagos. Abuja is the dream city Serene, beautiful, easy going , very cosmopolitan name it. Abuja is where you enter a cab and the cab driver is well dressed and greets you courteously yet a drop may not be more than 200naira depending on where you are headed. It has a very very bearable traffic hold up level. In fact save for the last 5yrs of the demonic fct minister Bala mohammed that almost destroyed Abuja, even at that it is still miles ahead of Lagos. I can bet if a proper research is carried out it will reveal that living in Abuja as against Lagos increases life expectancy by some 40-50%. I like Lagos from afar , love the drama, the energy but don't wanna be part of it. On the debate about opportunities abounding in Lagos, yes it is true, just as humans abound in Lagos , 1 job vacancy 20,000 applicants. At least people live in Ado ekiti and Enugu and they still make it there let alone Kaura Namoda and Igarra in Edo state. So I believe as just enough opportunities compared to its size , if you know what you are doing in Abj you will make it. If you doubt me ask Dasuki! |
this is really pathetic |
Nine names and 5 are Yorubas. As in ehn is there anu tribe like Yorubas in Nigeria. Leading in Business, leading in Politics, leading in academics, even in church ministry. |

By now every right thinking Nigerian should know that our health system is in complete shambles! I had to go to the national "hospital" over the past few weeks to do some test. My experience there is completely depressing. No wonder our govt officials dont use the hospitals. They are nothing but glorified dispensaries! To get quality healthcare as a Nigerian you have to look any where else but Nigeria. How did we get here. We stole everything including money for healthcare! Who does that? Thank God I will be travelling next month. I will be doing the necessary check abroad. The question now is at what cost? Secondly what about hundreds of millions of Nigerians who cannot afford 2meals a day let alone a flight ticket. We are not the only corrupt country in the world but we are the only one stupid enough to allow corruption deprive us of quality healthcare. Russia is a very corrupt country, have you ever heard Putin flown anywhere to do a check up. Cuba is not regarded as a developed country, yet they have one of the best healthcare in the world. Egypt inspite of its crisis is still one of the preferred destination for Nigerian medical tourism. Pls pardon any typos. I am angry. Lastly, a major part of the challenge are the clergymen who keep preaching to thier followers that tgey can never be sick. How? People fall sick everywhere ! So with such mindset, that kind of citizen can never join in any agitation for a better healthcare because it would appear he is faithless. But truth is even if you dont fall sick what about your relatives, friends and loved ones. We must begin to compel those in power to provide quality healthcare here. It is not rocket science |

Nairaland sha! What is anybody's business with what two consenting adults agree to do. what does it matter if Alafin is 80 and the Lady is 20, has she not reached the age of consent. Please what is the news here now? Even in Bible days Kings had several wives including King David, and nobody complained. So what's "amazing" about this Alafin story then. |
stupidity seems to flow freely in Nigeria! the report says "over 20 police vans were on patrol to see if the robbers will return" Seriously was that on a lighter note or what? Return to do what exactly? Pick the pencil they forgot or the handkerchief or what exactly? Comic country |

University of Ado Ekiti has one of the best geology departments in Nigeria. Trust me, since the days of OSUA, they have some of the best geology lecturers in the country. |
Not Punishing rapist in Nigeria is the reason for the rise in this crime against humanity. Let all decent guys rise up against this evil. This cannot be left as a female gender problem. We all must rise against this evil. We all have sisters , wives and friends no one will ever wish this evil happens to their loved one. If you have congi save 1500naira and go and sleep with a prostitute. Leave others out of your perverted life. There must be a serious campaign against this evil before they take over our entire space. This also goes out to you the "friendly" rapist. The fact that a girl allowed you yesterday doesn't mean she wants you today its not your right. The fact that you gave her money doesn't give you the right to rape her. Rape is the the worst crime in the whole world after murder. There's a chick for every guy. THere's a Saratu for every Mufutau out there. You dont need to rape. Find a girl treat a with respect and love her she will open up her entire life for you. Only animals attempt sex by force. Enough said. N.B women should have pepper spray in their pockets almost always especially when going out late at night or early in the morning. Get a 2 hrs training on how to defend yourself from a rapist. Too many rape cases especially in Abuja. Most rapes in Abuja are carried out by unpainted cabs. Most ladies never ever mention it but the trauma is for life. |
Pls who will build the "world class" schools and hospitals if govt keeps wasting scare resources building airports and hotels. Private sector i guess? |

una don kolo. First and foremost Lagos is Yorubaland, just like Kano is hausaland and Aba is igbo land. You guys are rude and bitter people that's why you guys always have problems every where you settle. From Malaysia to Kano to Indonesia to south Africa to Lagos you guys are hated everywhere. Rather than stop and check yourselves you guys will rather blame everything else and everyone else for your woes. you guys rely on our decency and decorum to insult us on our land but guess what no more! You guys claim you built Lagos and i laugh. With what please? with fake drugs and used motor parts. Find out who the richest people in Lagos are and you will be shocked. maybe some of this names are Igbo names help me; Adenuga, Otedola,Tinubu(Wale&Bola), Oba Otudeko to mention just a few, these guys will change all your money to coins, yet civility does not make us shout, but you guys are loud mouthed low life peeps who think they can control the economy of a massive state like Lagos by dealing in used motor parts. Please guys i hate to do this hate shit but someone's got to put you guys in your spaces else you wont learn. It is the peak of insults for you flat heads to want to be the ones deciding who rules Lagos, in Yoruba Language we call it "iko ja aiye" That's why the Oba took you guys to the cleaners. Now listen Kabiyesi means Kabi o osi, literally means we cant question the Kings authority. You guys asked for an Apology, yes millions of Yoruba's have condemned the king's utterances many many more have even offered apologies behalf of the King. Yet i understand you guys say you wont accept the apologies that rather you guys want the King removed. You guys are clowns. Remove Kabiyesi for who's sake abeg? You guys honestly always overrate yourselves, Remove our Oba for your sake, we are not like you guys, we revere our institutions, culture and traditions. It will never happen. Meanwhile that was how you guys boasted and played the spoiler across the country on 28/03/15 yet you guys met your waterloo at the polls. Come Saturday you guys will be disgraced again in Lagos. I hear some of you boasting you are now more than Yorubas in Lagos, never mind we shall know on Saturday. It is not your faults , Jimi ni ako ti le ta. It is Jimi that sold us cheap to you guys. Saturday is just round the corner till then feel free to brag on nairaland. |
Ngige will soon be a minister of the federal republic, and mark this down, Ngige, Okorocha, Osita Okechukwu, Ogbonnaya Onuh will soon become the leaders of the South east in Nigeria. The likes of andy, chris, Ifeanyi(Ubah) will head to jail where they belong whilst the likes of Peter Obi, Ebele Azikwe Jonathan etc will go on retirement! |
Chief promoter of President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign NGO, Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria (TAN), Ifeanyi Ubah over the weekend unleashed what his opponents called ‘his Terminator Agenda’ on Anambra state where he successfully reduced the election into a horror show. Ubah seized and unleashed the state security machinery, including the DSS, Army and Police backed up by truck loads of thugs to lock down collation centers and proceeded to falsify voting records to allocate votes to President Jonathan and PDP Candidates across the state. Ubah was said to have also had PDP Stalwarts like Olisah Metuh, Andy Uba’s younger brother, Henry with him when he invaded the collation center. PDP bigwigs and businessmen, such as Nicholas Ukachukwu (Nnewi South) Ibeto and Ifeanyi Ubah were said to have resorted to intimidation at polling centers and changing votes with impunity after old women and men refused their cash entreaties meant to buy votes. INEC adhoc staff were paid cash in USD to falsify collation reports while those who refused were threatened before being abducted and held hostage until they agreed to falsify results. A source within the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) said “voters in Anambra state are in a state of shock as the brotherly pact to vote Jonathan for President with the state’s party - APGA, is now like sleeping with the enemy. With Ifeanyi Ubah and Andy Uba, apparently no relatives but in a desperation to deliver Anambra State to the President and PDP candidates overran the collation centers in Anambra state with the thugs, Army, Mobile Police and all manners of intimidation including death threats.” The source said one casualty was recorded in Ihiala and three seriously wounded person ended up in hospital over the desperation to deliver Anambra State to the PDP. Another witness said Andy Uba in the usual Uba Mafia Style showed up in the collation centers in Anambra South with a retinue of thugs, Army Squad and Mobile Police, beating up opponent party agents and representatives and discarding official election result sheets with compromised INEC staff forcing down new results into the records. “What's at stake is the votes of the people who, disenfranchised with the likes of Andy Uba have come out to vote en mass to select new leaders and now their votes being discarded with intimidation and thuggery to cook up results to force their candidacy on the people. “With this election, the people en mass rejected the renegades but with friends in high places, Ifeanyi Uba of the supposed "Transformation Agenda" has now hooked up with Andy Uba and the PDP and Security machinery to put a lock down on the state till they deliver a favorable result to the president and their candidates.” The witness said. Bonapart:You seem to be a pervert though! How graphic should the picture be before it appeals to your perverted mind. In any case since when did killing adulterers become the right thing? Even Jesus Christ asked that the one without sin should cast the first stone. |
ADDRESS BY GENERAL MUHAMMADU BUHARI GCFR TO LEADERS AND ELDERS OF THE ALL PROGRESSIVE CONGRESS (APC) AT THE SHEHU MUSA YAR’ADUA CENTER - ABUJA ON TUESDAY 17TH FEBRUARY, 20 15 STAY THE COURSE The National Chairman Chief John Oyegun, thank you very much for your speech. Leaders and elders of our party, I want to join the Chairman in welcoming you all to this meeting. In the last two months, we have travelled the length and breadth of this country, we have heard the cry of our people and we have told them that we hear their cry - the cry for change. As you are all aware, our country is passing through trying times imposed on us by the bad PDP administration. The imminent change in answer to the yearnings of our people has been delayed by the postponement of the February 14th, 2015 elections. Our patience and resilience will be tested in the days ahead. We must pass this test. In a time like this, which in football analogy can be referred to as extra time, we must avoid making costly mistakes. In the weeks ahead, I would like to implore you to remain true to the vision - to build a country that works for all of us and not just for the few. To rescue and stabilise our nation from the hands of plunderers. On this, I believe we are all agreed. The important issue today is that we must use the next six weeks that have been imposed on us, to re-charge and re-focus on our goal. The goal is to win the elections now slated for March 28th and April 11th with a convincing majority. We should aim to achieve a victory that will be beyond dispute and proceed to form the next government and start work on the task of rebuilding our beloved country. Our eyes must be on the objective to build a great society that works for all of us. A country where every child has an equal opportunity to get an education, where every young Nigerian who needs a job can find one. Where the sick are looked after and senior citizens are provided for. A country which gives value to human life, where the welfare and security of all is a national priority and corruption is defeated. However, I must not fail to mention at this point, one issue which has become topical in the last few days and that is the worrisome revelations by Capt. Sagir Koli about how he, a serving officer at that time, was deployed, with other serving officers, some more senior in rank to work with key politicians of the PDP to rig the Ekiti elections. Up till now, there has been no official denial of this most unfortunate event. It makes me wonder, in the circumstances that led to shifting of the date of the Federal Elections, whether the security services are even now being prepared to play similar roles in the March 28th and April 11th elections. Let me reiterate once more that our security services have serious constitutional responsibilities to the people of the nation and so their importance to the health of the country cannot be under estimated. It is therefore imperative that their leaders must not drag these invaluable institutions into the realm of partisan politics. I personally and, am sure, all Nigerians, have tremendous respect for our security services. I therefore urge strongly that they stick to, and concentrate on, their constitutional duties, otherwise they stand the risk of becoming part of our already complicated national situation. I am deeply encouraged by the very high degree of cooperation and commitment to our common purpose of changing Nigeria for good that you all have exhibited in our campaign. I have noticed many of us embarked on our campaign trips without carrying a change of clothing hoping to return home the same day only to spend the night on strange beds because the dynamics of the campaign required that they spend the night away from home. You have ignored in some cases personal health challenges and given yourself to the campaign effort just to be part of the movement for change. There are some of you who lost in the various primaries to choose candidates for our party during these elections and rather than being disappointed you have thrown your energies and resources to the campaign not minding your personal losses. And there are others who have been made mind boggling offers by our opponents in a bid to break our ranks and curtail our momentum in the march to change Nigeria for good, yet you have chosen to be on the side of a cause that is just. I therefore appeal to you all party leaders and faithful not to rest thinking that all is won. Six weeks is a long time and we do not know the plans of the other side but with our strong resolve we will prevail. Therefore let us keep our eyes on the ball. Let us work as we have never done before, and let us watch and help each other. The days and weeks ahead will be tough. Our resolve will be tested and all kinds of evil tricks will be on display. But do not despair. The goal is in sight. Change is coming. The people of Nigeria will prevail. God has destined Nigeria to be a great country. We shall overcome and Change shall be achieved. God bless you all, God bless the APC and may God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Thank you. General Muhammadu Buhari GCFR (Presidential Flag Bearer of the APC, 2015) |
no big deal , its just pure coincidence which happens from time to time. |
DEBUNKING THE A.I.T. DOCUMENTARY OF FALSEHOODS by Ibrahim Abu The AIT has been airing a sponsored programme called ‘The Real Buhari’ in which attempts were made to discredit General Buhari and thereby weaken the candidacy of the General in the forthcoming elections. Being a good citizen, I decided to issue this rebuttal before they mislead those who are too young to know or not fortunate to have read about these issues from authentic sources. 1: PTF WAS AN ALTERNATIVE GOVERNMENT UNDER ABACHA! The Petroleum (Special) Trust Fund (PTF) was formed In October 1994 by General Sani Abacha after hiking the pump price of petrol from N3.25 to N11.00 per litre, in furtherance of his promise to set up a fund to distribute the gains from the increase in the pump price of fuel on social and infrastructural projects. The board of the fund, led by former Head of State, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari, was inaugurated in 1995. The fund had an all- encompassing mandate which covered multi-sectoral interventions such as the rehabilitation of roads and waterways, rehabilitation of educational and health institutions, provision of textbooks and stationary items, essential drugs and vaccines, provision of water supply systems, revival of the agricultural sectors, rural electrification projects, telecommunications and food supply sectoral interventions, with an initial capital of N60bn in 1996. How can an agency with an initial capital of N60bn and spent less than N200bn in itsthree-year life, be an alternative government? Can we say that the SURE-P with a bigger budget is also an ‘alternative government’? For those already saying that PTF intervention was lopsided in favour of the north, Waziri Adio has presented us with these statistics “It is true that out of the 13,090km roads rehabilitated, 32% in the south and 68% in the north. But that's half the story. In terms of km, 7.3% of d rehabilitated roads were in SE; 8.5% in SW;16.25 in SS; 21.1% in NW; 23.4% in NE; and 23.5% in NC. But it is also true that the landmass varies among zones and same with degree of difficulty and cost. A look at the cost of roads in different zones and the overall allocation to zones in all PTF projects show a different picture. N77. 2b was committed to roads out of the total of N187b allocated to PTF till May 99.” “Of the N77.2b to roads, SW got N 9.7 b; SE, N14.5b; SS, N 30. 5b. This means SW got 12.6% of road budget; SE, 18.8%; SS, 39.5%. Of d N77.2b committed to roads, NE got N7.1b; NC, N7. 4b; NW, N7.9b, meaning NE got 9.2%, NC got 9.6% and NW 10.3%. This shows that in terms of cost, the variation btw north and south reversed in favour of d south. Under roads, the south got 70% in terms of amount allocated and the north got 30%. It may sound counter intuitive, but it is also an established fact that road construction costs more in the south than in the north.” 2: BUHARI GOVERNMENT WAS THE FIRST TO SENTENCE A WOMAN TO DEATH BY FIRING SQUAD, THREE WOMEN WERE SENTENCED TO DEATH FOR DRUG TRAFFICKING INCLUDING A DISABLED WOMAN. Those women were sentenced to death for drug trafficking which at that time in Nigeria carried a capital punishment like it still does in Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore! Is this the kind of story we want from Nigeria? Are satisfied with our people being notorious in various parts of the world as ‘drug mules’? “The number of Nigerian women on drugs charges in UK jails has risen almost six-fold in three years, figures supplied to the BBC News website show. On 30 June this year, 85 of the 151 Nigerian women in custody in the UK were being held for drugs offences. In 2002 there were just 15 out of 29” – BBC 3: WOLE SOYINKA DESCRIBED BUHARI AS AN “ETHNIC BIGOT” AND WONDERING WHY NIGERIANS CAN STILL CONSIDER BUHARI AKIN TO A “MASTER-SLAVE” RELATIONSHIP. Is there any Nigerian government that Soyinka has not had problems with? He was sent to Prison by Gowon, he had issues with military Obasanjo, he had issues with Buhari, he also had issues with IBB over June 12, he had issues also with Abacha and had to escape through the NADECO route, he had issues with civilian Obasanjo, he had issues with Yar Adua’s cabal and he recently compared Jonathan to King Nebuchadnezzar. 4: BUHARI WAS TIGHT-LIPPED DURING ABACHA. Buhari comes from a military background and was working in PTF under Abacha who was also military. And in the military, loyalty is 100%! Buhari I suppose had the choice of either leaving PTF and criticize Abacha later or continue at PTF to do the good work he was doing to improve the lot of the ordinary man! He chose the latter! 5: BUHARI OVERTHREW A DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED GOVERNMENT The coup was done by Bako, Babangida and Abacha. Buhari was installed as the head of the state as he was the most respected officer at the time. 6: BUHARI’S SUPREME MILITARY COUNCIL FULL OF NORTHERNERS, 11 WERE FROM THE NORTH WHILE 5 WERE FROM THE SOUTH. BUHARI'S CABINET WERE FULL OF MUSLIMS The composition of the Supreme Military Council (SMC) was the way it was because the military was not preoccupied with the inanities we have imposed on ourselves today. We had 19 states at the time, the SMC had 3 officers from Niger State, 2 Officers from Bendel, 2 from Kwara and 2 Kaduna (Buhari included). It is clear that the military at that time did not promote its officers using any quota system (I hope it is still so up till now). Buhari's Federal Executive Council had one from each of the 19 states of Nigeria (Nigeria had 19 states at the time) except Bendel and perhaps one other state. Bendel State was compensated by G Longe being appointed as the Head of Service! The powerful portfolios of Finance and Petroleum were held by Dr Soleye and Dr. (or was he a Prof at the time?) Tam David West respectively! 7. NO NORTHERN GOVERNOR EXCEPT CHRISTIAN APER AKU PUT ON TRIAL. The documentary says only Christian and southerner governors were imprisoned by Buhari. The truth is that all the governors were tried and both northern and southern governors were imprisoned. “GOVERNOR ABBA MUSA RIMI, KADUNA STATE - On 28 March 1985 a Special Military Tribunal sentenced Rimi to 21 years in jail for corruptly enriching 96 legslators of the State House of Assembly by N500,000. Rimi said he had given the money to the legislator "for keeping the law and order in their constituencies" “GOVERNOR AWAAL MUHAMMED IBRAHIM, NIGER STATE - He was convicted by the military tribunal for corrupt practices in 1984. Released by IBB and barred from holding political office by the IBB regime in 1986” - Wikipedia. GOVERNOR SABO BAKIN ZUWO, KANO STATE - He was a former Senator, elected Governor in 1983 defeating ex-Gov Rimi. Boxes full of cash ranging from $4.5 million was found in his residence. He was convicted for 21 years for accepting bribe in a property deal (along with Rimi), and was commuted to a cummulative 300 years in prison for embezzlement of Kano fund. APER AKU, BENUE STATE - There was Aper Aku with his trade mark baldhead, looking dazed as he was sentenced to 21 years for borrowing N50,000 from Benue Breweries, a company established and run by his government. The prosecutors had argued that the Benue Breweries belong to the Benue People. GARBA NADAMA, SOKOTO STATE – He left office after the 1983 military coup in which Major General Muhammadu Buhari took power. In July 1985 he was sentenced to life imprisonment and ordered to refund N4.7 million of money obtained illegally. In his defense, Garba Nadama said that N500,000 of the money had been donated to a mosque appeal fund. ABUBAKAR BARDE, GONGOLA STATE – He was jailed by Buhari and released by Babangida. TATARI ALI, BAUCHI STATE – He too was jailed by Buhari’s tribunal but later released by Babangida. So now I hope it is clear to all that there was no preferential treatment for the northern governors! 8: AJASIN WAS ACQUITTED TWICE BUT STILL DETAINED. I don’t know how true the assertion is that Ajasin was tried twice and acquitted both times. 9: TAI SOLARIN DETAINED WITHOUT ACCESS TO HIS DRUGS DESPITE COURT RULING IN HIS FAVOUR. “The late educationist and social critic, Dr. Tai Solarin, was an enigma. He was highly critical of the military authorities. As a result, he was detained in various prisons across the country for his human rights activism right from his first major detention on October 12, 1974 by Yakubu Gowon’s regime to the last one on March 12, 1984 under the draconian Buhari/Idiagbon administration where he spent about 17 months behind the bars”. “Specifically, due to his criticisms of the successive military administrations, he incurred the wrath of the Buhari/ Idiagbon regime and became a victim of its much-dreaded State Security Detention of Persons Decree No 2 of 1984. He was arrested at his Ikenne country home and incarcerated at Abeokuta Prisons, Ogun State, on March 12, 1984. Like other detainees languishing in custody at the time, his ordeal in the hands of the military junta was validated by a detention order. It was an era when the then Chief of Staff, Brig. Idiagbon, had the power to detain anyone for acts prejudicial to state security. The detention order purportedly signed by Idiagbon for Solarin’s detention, later turned out to be a subject of inquiry at the Lagos High Court.” 10: BISI ONABANJO A KIND OF SAINT WHO DID MANY GOOD PROJECTS, YET BUHARI SENTENCED HIM AND HE SPENT 20 MONTHS IN PRISON. INNOCENT JIM NWOBODO, ETC JAILED FOR 100 TO 600 YEARS. “LAGOS, Nigeria – A military tribunal issued the first sentence imposed as part of Nigeria’s crack-down on corruption yesterday, ordering a former state governor imprisoned for 22 years for taking a $3.7million kickback. Bisi Onabanjo, former governor of Ogun, was convicted by a military tribunal of taking the kickback for his political faction, the now-defunct Unity Party of Nigeria. The money came from a $37.2million contract with the Bouygues Construction Company of France to build a 19-storey office for the Great Nigeria Insurance Company owned by Ogun, Oyo and Ondo States. Former Govs Bola Ige of Oyo and Adekunle Ajasin of Ondo, were acquitted” – Pittsburg Post Gazette of Jun 1, 1984 - “London – A special military tribunal has sentenced the former governor of Nigeria’s Anambra state to 21 years in prison for corruption, Lagos radio reports. The radio report monitored last week in London, said Jim Nwobodo was convicted on 12 charges of corruption. Prosecutors said Nwobodo paid $5.1m into what the radio called “ghost accounts”. The radio did not elaborate on the charges. The sentence was issued in Lagos, capital of the West African nation. Nwobodo was the fourth former civilian governor sentenced to prison for corruption under the military regime of Maj Gen Muhammadu Buhari. The military toppled the elected government of President Shehu Shagari in a Dec 31 coup.” - Lakeland Ledger - Aug 3, 1984 - 11: AMBROSE ALLI DID NOT HAVE ANY HOUSE AND WAS POOR YET BUHARI SENT HIM TO JAIL AND HE CAME OUT BLIND AND BDSG HAD TO BUILD A BEFITTING HOUSE FOR HIM FOR HIS BURIAL. “Even the tribunal could not find him guilty of corruptly enriching himself or any other individual. Rather, he was found guilty of ‘corruptly enriching his political party’ – and, unlike what some think, he didn’t give state funds to the UPN. Rather, a campaign contribution was given to the UPN treasurer in Bendel State by a contractor to the Bendel State Government. Dad accepted that as UPN chairman in the state and the chief executive of the state he was responsible, even though he himself did not personally accept or disburse the money. Dad described the tribunal as a ‘Kangaroo Court,’ which is what it was.” – Daily Independent October 2013 12: OFFICIAL PASSPORT OF AWOLOWO WAS SEIZED AND ONLY RETURNED WITH APOLOGY BY IBB. The context of the above was that this was done by a military regime in the early eighties before the collapse of the Soviet Union, before the fall of the Berlin Wall and before Malone v United Kingdom (1984), where even in many developed countries, civil liberties were not as developed as they are today. 13: EKWUEME CAME OUT WHITE AS SNOW THOUGH HE WAS IN PRISON FOR 20 MONTHS WITHOUT BEING CHARGED EVEN THOUGH HE WAS ACCUSED OF PETROLEUM AND ABUJA PROJECTS WHILE SHAGARI WAS KEPT IN PRESIDENTIAL VILLA. “LAGOS, Sunday – Nigeria military ruler Mohammed Buhari was quoted as saying that former Vice President Alex Ekwueme was corruptly involved in government contracts. Major General Buhari who took power on December 31 after overthrowing President Shehu Shagari, has pledged to crack down on corruption and bad economic management. Ekwueme, one of more than 80 former politicians held at a maximum security jail in Lagos, was “consistently involved in contract deals on the new projected capital of Abuja, Petroleum and certain sectors of the economy,” General Buhari said in an interview with the Sunday Concord. General Buhari also said former Transport Minister Umaru Dikko and Adisa Akinloye, chairman of Shagari’s political party, consistently appeared along with Ekwueme in major government contract deals, But he said nothing has been found against Shagari himself. In disclosing the corruption charges, Brigadier Tunde Idiagbon, Chief of Staff in Buhari’s government, implicated the national chairman of Nigeria’s former leading political party in a scheme intended to “siphon away” GBP14m through a secret bank account. In London, the Observer reported that British Aerospace has agreed topay a GBP22m commission on a contract for the sale of 18 Jaguar fighter aircraft to Nigeria, agreed prior to the recent coup.” - The Glasgow Herald - Feb 13, 1984 - 14: AWWAL IBRAHIM WAS ARRESTED WITH GBP14M IN LONDON BUT WAS SHIELDED BY BUHARI. Awwal Ibrahim was not jailed because he was Buhari's friend. The truth is that Awwal Ibrahim was convicted of abuse of office and corruption like most of the northern state governors, it was Babangida's government that commuted his sentence to a ban from holding political office as was done to some of the other political prisoners of the time! 15: SHEHU KANGIWA WHO SUPERVISED BAKOLORI MASSACRE WAS SHIELDED AND PROTECTED BY BUHARI. The truth is that Shehu Kangiwa, governor of Sokoto State died in1981 after falling from a horse while playing polo atleast two years before Buhari came into power in 1983 so I don’t know which Kangiwa the documentary was referring to. 16: METROLINE PROJECT WHICH WAS TO BE FINANCED 10% EQUITY AND 90% BY A CONSORTIUM OF 19 CONTRACTOR FIRMS WAS TERMINATED AND $60M ADVANCE LOST. “The cost of the metro line at that time, by our negotiation, was N700 million. The terms of agreement were advance payment by Lagos State government, 10 per cent, and the balance was to be paid by the French consortium, all the 19 companies. Ninety per cent of the cost was to be borrowed. We had actually determined the corridors and appointed a French General Manager. But, suddenly, Buhari, even against the wish of Lagos State government- cancelled the metro line.” – Lateef Jakande. “Explaining how Shagari and Buhari worked against the metro-rail project, Jakande said there was delay after the N700 million metro-line project was awarded to a French firm with the arrangement to first pay N70 million and pay the rest in the space of two years”. He said the delay compelled him to ask "my commissioner for works to investigate why the N70 million mobilisation fund was not released. The commissioner investigated and discovered that it was President who asked the Central Bank of Nigeria not to release the money. President Shagari said it was because there was fuel (oil) crisis. He said the CBN governor would visit him that evening and that he would get back to me after talking to him on the metro-line project fund. I quickly replied that I would wait for him since I considered him paramount to undo the knots on the release of the fund," Jakande said. "The CBN governor finally arrived, and President Shagari raised the issue of N70 million metro-line project fund. But the CBN governor said the fund cannot be released (returned) at once. He asked me to withdraw as many times as possible citing the reasons of bad economy and increasing fuel crisis at the period." Is this not clear from the above that the guarantee had already been turned down by Shagari even before Buhari took over. This loan had to be guaranteed by the Federal government as is required for foreign loans to be taken by state government. It looks so sweet that 90% of the finance was to be provided by debt-financing. The next question will be what are the terms? Any moratorium? Interest rate? Tenure? What was the capacity of Nigeria to honour this guarantee with our depleted foreign reserves, our debt burden and unwillingness of IFIs to deal with Nigeria until we submitted to IMF conditionalities? If the Metroline was easy for any government, why hasn’t any government after Buhari done it until now. Fashola was able to start the Lagos Rail Project because we succeeded in exiting our Paris Club and London Club debts as a result of improved oil prices of 2004 and 2005. 17: EXTRA-JUDICIAL MURDER OF OWOH, OGEDENGBE AND OJUOLAPE THROUGH A PENALTY THAT DID NOT EXIST AT THE TIME. BUHARI STILL HAS NO REGRETS OVER THE KILLINGS. The three were convicted for drug-trafficking under Decree 20 which imposed capital punishment for drug-trafficking. The issue here concerns ex-post facto laws (i.e. a law that retroactively changes the legal consequences (or status) of actions that were committed, or relationships that existed, before the enactment of the law. In criminal law, it may criminalize actions that were legal when committed; it may aggravate a crime by bringing it into a more severe category than it was in when it was committed; it may change the punishment prescribed for a crime, as by adding new penalties or extending sentences; or it may alter the rules of evidence in order to make conviction for a crime likelier than it would have been when the deed was committed). The Nuremberg trials were based on ex-post facto legislation. Adolf Eichmann was tried in Israel using ex-post facto legislation. Most countries did not ban ex-post facto legislation until the 80s, 90s and 2000s. 18: SUBSIDIES IN NIGERIA UNIVERSITIES STOPPED AND FREE-MEAL TICKETS ABOLISHED. But if free-meal tickets were affordable, why hasn’t any of the subsequent governments reinstated the policy. 19: THE HIGH-HANDEDNESS OF THE NSO AND ARREST AND DETENTION UNDER DECREE NO 2.BEKO RANSOME-KUTI, TAI SOLARIN AND HAROUN ADAMU JAILED. NSO was a mistake so were many of the intelligence agencies of the 80s all over the world. It was this same Haroun Adamu that Obasanjo appointed to wind-down the PTF, no wonder his report was more like a hatchet job against Buhari. 20: VARIOUS ASSOCIATIONS PROSCRIBED AND 200,000 NIGERIANS IN DETENTION. Only NANS and NMA were banned while NLC was barred from having any strike in view of the structural reforms the government was about to undertake example being removal of meal subsidies in Universities and retrenchment of workers. 21: 700,000 FOREIGNERS DEPORTED. Buhari’s government was not the first to deport foreigners and would not be the last. Every country considers deportation of aliens to create job openings for its citizens when faced with unemployment of its nationals and in the case of Nigeria, aliens coming with dubious religious doctrines like that of Maitatsine! |
Transparent Democracy and Good Government for Nigeria (TransDGGN), a not-for-profit organization based in the United States of America, has endorsed General Muhammadu Buhari, the presidential candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), for the presidency at next month’s election. statement by Dr. Emmanuel Abiodun Dada, the Founder and President of TransDGGN, USA, said the unanimous decision to endorse the candidacy of Buhari was taken at the group’s extraordinary meeting held last Sunday. It explained that the group took the position for three main reasons: President Goodluck Jonathan has failed woefully to lead Nigeria with dignity, integrity and honor which is required of the office of the president, and under his watch, Nigeria has become a failed state. In 2014, according to global terrorism index, Nigeria ranked 4th worse than Syria and only better than Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan. General Buhari has the experience to tackle terrorism (Boko Haram and others). Index Mundi, has projected that unemployment will increase by 2% annually in Nigeria. Statistics have shown that in 2011, the unemployment rate in Nigeria was 23.9% compared to 4.9% in 2009. “We firmly believe that election of the duo of General Buhari and Professor Yemi Osinbajo is not only critical for the restoration of dignity and honor of Nigeria but also to create equal opportunities for all, address the problem of youth unemployment and, restore peace and tranquility to Nigeria,” TransDGGN said. It also expressed the confidence that General Buhari will address the problem of corruption which has become a hydra headed monster permeating all the facet of our society, as he is a tested man with a track record of discipline and excellence. “Overall, we endorse and support the aspiration of General Muhammadu Buhari as the next President not because he's a saint or he hasn't made mistakes in the past but the level of corruption, impunity and mediocrity in Nigeria today which is unprecedented has made him the preferred candidate among all the aspirants,” the group said. TransDGGN asserted that General Buhari has the integrity, experience and competence to effectively discharge the duties of president as prescribed in the Constitution and restore Nigeria back to her pride of place as the true giant of Africa, both in words and deeds. “We believe supporting the election of General Buhari as the next President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is a noble cause and hereby call on all Nigerian men and women of voting age to join the cause for positive change in Nigeria by going out to vote on February 14th to elect General Muhammadu Buhari and Professor Yemi Osinbajo to the office of the president and vice president respectively of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The time to salvage Nigeria from rot is now and we shall continue to work with other groups that share our aspirations for a better Nigeria, for ultimate victory of Gen. Buhari at the poll. TransDGGN, USA was founded in 2010 with membership of patriotic Nigerians cutting across different sectors of the US economy. |

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has warned Gov. Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State against disrupting or interfering in any way with the APC presidential campaign rally in Ado-Ekiti on Saturday, saying the governor's plan to hold a parallel rally on the same day is a recipe for chaos. In a statement issued in Lagos on Friday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party wondered why Gov. Fayose will schedule a rally also for Saturday at Fajuyi Park, which is a major route to the venue of the APC presidential campaign rally. ''This is nothing but a deliberate act of provocation, and it is a dangerous game by a Governor who has now become notorious for making incendiary statements and taking irrational actions. Gov. Fayose should be told in clear terms that being the Governor of a state demands huge responsibility, not brazen rascality,'' it said. APC wondered what point the Governor was trying to prove by seeking to set the supporters of his party, the PDP, against those of our party, which is basically what he is planning to do by organizing a parallel rally along a major route to ours at Ado-Ekiti on Saturday. The party said its members and supporters, in line with their peaceful nature and the ethos of APC, neither disrupted nor interfered with the PDP presidential campaign rally at Ado, and finds it difficult to understand why the Governor will be plotting to trigger chaos and disrupt the APC presidential campaign rally. ''There must be a limit to mischief and waggishness, especially from a Governor that almost set Nigeria on fire with an irresponsible, incendiary and repugnant advertisement wishing our presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, dead. ''Since everything points to the fact that Gov. Fayose lacks the capacity to understand the implication of his actions, it is high time his masters called him to order before he sets the country on fire. A good starting point is to warn him against holding a parallel tally at Ado on Saturday. ''The security agencies should also advise the Governor against actions that are capable of triggering violence and disrupting public peace. If the Governor fails to heed the voice of reason, then he should be solely held responsible if there is any breach of peace or a disruption of the APC presidential campaign rally at Ado-Ekiti on Saturday'' it said.
