http://sunnewsonline.com/new/?p=122881 Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode and the President of Dangote Group of Companies, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, have tipped Lagos State as one of the most lucrative investor havens on the African continent. The duo who spoke yesterday at the Lagos House, Ikeja, affirmed that when the various projects being done in Lagos are completed, the emerging African model mega city will be an attractive business hub that will command investors’ respect and attention across the globe. Ambode, while responding to Dangote’s address during his courtesy visit in his office, said his administration was ready to support the Dangote Group where necessary towards ensuring that investors have a comfortable life. He said, “I will just call on other investors that wherever it is that we can assist, we will be willing and ready to make sure that investors have comfortable life and comfortable business profile in Lagos State.” The Governor, who described the visit as very significant, promised that his administration would open up the state for greater business just as it is also interested in attracting foreign investors through its creation of an Office of Overseas Affairs and Investment. “This visit is highly significant. We said it that we are going to open up Lagos State for greater business and we also said we are interested in bringing in foreign investors and creating an Office of Overseas Affairs and Investment,” he said. “This visit is symbolic in the sense that the bottom line is creating jobs for our youths and he has shown full commitment as a great Nigerian that he is interested in investing in any part of this country but most significantly in Lagos State, and we are ready to support him and all his businesses because he is adding value. “I will just call on other investors that wherever it is that we can assist, we will be willing and ready to make sure that investors have comfortable life and comfortable business profile in Lagos State and once again, I want to thank you for being here,” he added. Ambode also thanked the Dangote Group President for donating N400 million through the Dangote Foundation to 2,000 women in each of the 20 local governments in the state towards assisting them improve their businesses. Fielding questions from journalists shortly after the meeting, Dangote said he and his team were at the Lagos House to congratulate Governor Ambode on his victory at the poll as well as his swearing in as the 14th Chief Executive Officer of the state. http://www.punchng.com/news/boko-haram-raises-operations-wants-to-subdue-nigeria-atiku/ Former Vice -President Atiku Abubakar has called on Nigerians to stand up and counter the menace of Boko Haram by being more security conscious. He said the populace should offer information of any strange movement in their localities to the security agencies. The former Vice-President, who spoke on Friday, was reacting to the Thursday’s bomb blast that rocked the Yola Modern Market, resulting in the death of over 40 persons. He said the insurgents had raised their modes of operations, and appeared to habour an intention to subdue the country. Atiku visited the Federal Medical Centre, Yola, on Friday in company with the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase; Adamawa State Governor, Senator Jubrilla Bindow; and Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency, Mohamad Sani Sidi, who were in the state to visit the victims of the blast and sympathise with them. He explained that the insurgents had begun the “second phase” of its onslaught with the intention to subdue the country and win the fight against Nigerians. Sani Sidi distributed drugs to the victims of Thursday’s bomb attack that took place near Jimeta Market. The NEMA boss, who led the Federal Government’s delegation, including the IGP, called on the people to give security agencies the needed cooperation to stem the tide of attacks on innocent Nigerians. He appealed to well meaning individuals and corporate bodies to assist the victims with blood as doing so might save some lives. The entourage was at Government House, where they sympathised with the state governor before proceeding to the House of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Federal Medical Center Yola and the scene of the explosion. In his remarks, Arase called on Nigerians, especially the people of Adamawa State to have confidence in the Nigeria Police and other security outfits, adding that the security operatives were doing their best to address the current security challenges in the country. |

http://lindaikeji..it/2015/06/actor-sells-his-2-year-old-son-for-450k.html Kanayo Awurum, 29, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly selling his son for N450,000 in the Egbe, Ikotun area of the state. He allegedly sold the two-year-old boy, identified as Samuel, to a middle-aged women. Kanayo, who worked as a painter, reportedly lied to his wife, Kelechi, that one of the women was his relative in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, and the boy was going to live with her. It was learnt that the police had apprehended the three women he sold his son to namely Nkechi Obi, Cecilia Nwatu and Gladys Nwobodo for allegedly buying the child. Kanayo told his friend Emmanuel, who is still at large, that he had some financial difficulties, and wanted to sell his son for N450,000 so the women, who were working with Kanayo’s friend, identified only as Emmanuel, visited the man and his wife to purchase the boy. He added that his plan was to stabilise his family with the money as his wife was pregnant with another child. He said, “I met Kelechi in our secondary school days in 2005. It was in 2010 that we started living together. In December 2012, she gave birth to Samuel. We were then living in Owerri, Imo State. I was working as a painter and also acted in movies. I was an upcoming actor so I was not well paid. “From 2014, I started to have financial difficulties, and I wanted to come to Lagos to hustle. The idea to sell my child came in March 2015 when I finally decided to travel to Lagos. It was a friend, Emmanuel, who linked me to the women. I asked him to lend some money to me and he said I should use what I had to get what I wanted. “I did not tell my wife that I wanted to sell our child. I lied to her that one of the women who came was my elder sister in Port Harcourt and our son was going to stay with her. My wife did not like the idea, but I convinced her that it was for our good. “So, when we came to Lagos, we rented an apartment on Oluwaseyi Street in the Egbe area of Lagos. I was paid N450,000 for the boy. That was what I used to pay for the rent.” Kelechi, 28, said it was when she pestered Kanayo to bring her child home for a visit and the boy was not brought by the ‘relative’ that she suspected a foul play. She said: Samuel was two years and two months old when Kanayo said he was taking him to stay with his sister in Port Harcourt. In April, he went to Owerri for a painting work and promised that his sister would bring Samuel on a visit. On the day he promised, no one showed up. He also failed to come back to Lagos when he promised. I then told our landlord and one of his friends in Lagos, called Coach. Then, they agreed to trick my husband to come back home. When he arrived, they began to ask him questions and he later confessed that the boy was not actually with his relative. They went to report the matter at the Ikotun Police Division. That was how he was arrested." Kanayo led the police to the home of one of the women he got arrested. She said, she paid Kanayo 650k not 450k and she only did itbecause she had a deformed10year old son that her Husband didn't know about and wanted a male child desperately to bear the family name. 'My boy has the Down syndrome. He could not talk.” She said. The 2 year old Samuel has since been reunited with his Mom. Police is still investigating the matter. Punch.

http://thenationonlineng.net/new/two-children-die-of-hunger-in-ibadan/ Many people were shocked yesterday that two children starved to death on Tuesday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. The discovery followed an unscheduled visit by the state police command to Celestial Street in Agbowo. The street is densely populated with sparse lines of demarcation, typical of similar densely populated city neighbourhoods. The area is close to the nation’s premier university, the University of Ibadan (UI). Despite the area’s proximity to affluent neighbourhoods, the children could not get help, according to their host. When the police convoy arrived in the area, surprise was written on the faces of residents and passersby. Many followed their vehicles to find out if a heavy crime had been committed in the area. But they soon discovered that Amarachi Ukoha, 16, and Munachi Madagu, three, died because the breadwinner of the family, Mr Kunle Ayoola, could not feed them. He also failed to provide the medical treatment for them because he had no money to take to the hospital. Ayoola, 20, said he could not help the children because of his poor income, adding that those who could help were also unavailable. He is married to Chinonye, also 20. They have an 18-month old baby. Chinonye had Munachi for her first husband and brought him to her new home. Her younger sister, Amarachi, 16, came to live with them. She was said to have died of hunger, which was compounded by diarrhoea when the family was preparing to bury Munachi. Both died in an eight-room bungalow. They were thought to have been struck by a strange illness that caused their death. But Ayoola confessed that death visited them because he could not feed them. Munachi’s photo showed that he was malnourished. Ayoola said: “I think they died as a result of poor medical care. I tried my best to save them but there was no money. The only people that could help were not at home when I visited them.” The family man gathers metals from dustbins and dump sites and sells them at Ogunpa Market in Ibadan. But the income, according to him, is so small that he could not afford to feed his family well. He said he earned about N500 whenever business was good. But that was a far cry from meeting the basic needs of his six-member family, which includes his maternal grandmother. Ayoola said: “I sell scraps at Ogunpa Market. I make between N500 and N1,000 daily when business is good. I did not learn any work before starting the scrap business. I dropped out of school in Primary Six because there was no money.” The scraps seller said he was making efforts to bury Munachi when he approached the priest of a church opposite the house for advice. But the man advised him not to bury the boy because he was not his father. He took him to the police station to report the death. But before the police arrived the house, Amarachi had also passed on, complicating the case for Ayoola. The deaths were reported to Police Commissioner Muhammed Katsina later in the day. The priest, Most Superior Evangelist Tosin Otakoya, said: “On Tuesday, one boy called Kunle Ayoola, who is living in front of my church, came to me and said one of his babies had died. I asked if the baby truly belonged to him and he said no. I told him he had no right to bury the baby unless his dad authorised him to do so. When we tried to get the baby’s father on phone and the number was not going, I told him to go to police station and report himself because he could not keep the body in his house. “I said it was not ideal for him to bury a boy that he did not father. On getting to the station, I met with the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and explained the situation to her. She volunteered to go to the house with me. When we got to the house, we met another 16-year-old lady, who was already dead, on the floor. It was strange to us. “So, she contacted the Area Commander and the police commissioner to come to our rescue. The Area Commander came and evacuated the two bodies to the mortuary. I noticed these people died of poverty. They had nothing to eat or money to take care of themselves. The lady and that baby were sick and there was no care before they died.” |

innoson can take his wayo car 2 ghana 2 sell, Apc is now on board The All Progressives Congress (APC) has promised to cut tariff and duty on imported vehicles, if it wins the March 28 presidential election. Its vice-presidential candidate, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, at a town hall meeting with political stakeholders in Ondo, Ondo State, said: “We do not agree that there should be high tariff on imported cars whether new or old because Nigeria is not producing cars for now. “What we will do first is to fix power and encourage local production of cars. But before then, we will reduce the high tariff that Nigerians are paying to import vehicles into the country.” Osinbajo said Nigerians should not find it difficult to buy cars, promising that the APC government would ensure that tariff were reduced to make cars affordable. The Goodluck Jonathan administration began implementation of the new tariff on imported vehicles last year. The policy pegs the age limit for private vehicles at 10 years and commercial, 15. Under the new regime, importers, who hitherto paid 20 per cent duty on used vehicles, now pay 35 per cent duty and additional 35 per cent levy on new vehicles. The tariff is an offshoot of the automotive policy. Under the policy, Customs will collect additional 35 per cent levy, totalling 70 per cent tariff from April. Vehicle dealers and importers in Lagos are lamenting that the policy is hurting their businesses and have hiked prices by about 300 per cent. The policy, they argued, could propel jobs’ cut. Chief Osita Chukwu, National Coordinator of Save Nigeria Freight Forwarders Importers and Exporters Coalition (SNIFFIEC), said the policy is anti-masses and should be resisted. “We cannot accept the 70 per cent tariff hike. It’s going to kill the masses. How many people will be able to buy used vehicles? How many people can afford new ones as well? We reject this. We are going to shut the ports if the government doesn’t rescind its decision on this matter. By the time over three million importers, exporters and other stakeholders withdraw their services from the ports, you can imagine the implication.” |

He added that OER’s management team was familiar with the assets and possessed the managerial experience and technical expertise necessary to unlock their value. Also commenting, OER chairpersonWale Tinubustated that the company believed in the significant potential that the Nigerian oil and gas industry held. |
