http://www.premiumtimesng.com/arts-entertainment/music/189820-why-we-stopped-airing-p-square-music-videos-soundcity-tv.html Nigerian cable and terrestrial music channel, Soundcity, has cleared the air on why it stopped airing videos by Nigeria’s pop twins, P-Square, since January this year. The television channel was responding to an outburst by Peter Okoye, one half of the group, to a fan on Twitter who had complained about the lack of P-Square videos on Soundcity TV. “Don’t waste ur time dear… They will not play them … Pls keep watching Trace TV, Mtvbase, HipTv nAfropop. Thanks,” Peter Okoye had responded to the fan via his Twitter handle on Thursday. But in a statement titled, “What has Soundcity ever done for P-Square? ” the urban music channel said the decision to stop airing the pop duo’s music videos was due to their failure to attend to one of their events, last year. “For 10 years, @SoundcityTV has been a huge supporter of #PSquare brand, right from their 1st music video to the last video released in 2014. Most of their videos got massive airplay on @SoundcityTV than any other music channel,” the TV station said in the statement published on its website. The statement noted that the station had assisted the P-Square brand, toured with them all over Africa at their own expense, given them ad-spots for their events as well as prime time slots for their videos. “We invited #PSquare to one of our annual events last December 2014 and they insisted we pay a certain amount of money,” the statement continued. “We reasonably asked, what is the least we can offer? This was us foregoing the fact that we had invested a lot in #PSquare’s career as music talents/artistes and entertainers. “The feedback was ‘What has Soundcity ever done for P-Square? Tell me one thing Soundcity has ever done for PSquare’ (Jude Okoye, Manager). “While we understand that this is business, there is also room for special consideration. Saying our TV brand has never done anything for #Psquare was quite damning. Clearly, there was no need to argue with their decision. “We decided to stop doing anything with/for #PSquare, since our 10 years of supporting the group meant nothing to them. We assumed our relationship was a mutually beneficial one, but clearly one-sided. “Ultimately, #PSquare music videos stopped airing on @SoundcityTV since January 01, 2015. Soundcity reserves the right to air music videos on our cable/ satellite or terrestrial platforms.” |

Chibuike Anyasor, 33, and Joe Iwuchukwu Odemegwo, 51, were arrested on Thursday afternoon by officers from Taskforce Icarus, a joint operation between the AFP, Border Force and Victoria Police tackling the importation of drugs by post and other methods. The pair appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates Court today. Ansayor, described by police as a key figure in the drug importation syndicate, was charged with importing and attempting to possess methamphetamine. Odemegwo was charged with attempting to possess a commercial quantity of methamphetamine. If found guilty they face a maximum penalty of life imprisonment. Do you know more about this story? Email investigations@abc.net.au The court heard that Anyasor and Odemegwo were under investigation for six months and that police had obtained extensive telephone intercepts during that time. Many of the intercepted calls were all in the Igbo language, predominantly spoken by people in the south-east of Nigeria. The court was told there were only two accredited Igbo translators in Australia and that both of them were living in Adelaide, on students visas, which meant they could only work for 20 hours a week. AFP Deputy Commissioner Operations Leanne Close said offenders who imported methamphetamine into Australia would face the full force of the law. "Law enforcement and border protection agencies will continue to work together to target organised crime syndicates who seek to compromise our communities with this dangerous and insidious drug," Deputy Commissioner Close said. "These arrests are a significant disruption to this syndicate. Our capabilities to detect and disrupt organised crime continue to grow, and we will not slow our efforts to remove this scourge from our streets." The two men were remanded into custody until a committal mention on December 11. Postedyesterday at 5:09pm |

http://www.premiumtimesng.com/regional/nwest/189373-chinese-%e2%80%8btraders-%e2%80%8bagree-to-stop-imitating-kano-local-dyers-products.html The Kano dyers’ association, popularly known as Masu Rini Progressive Association (MARIPA) has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Chinese traders on the protection of their century-old handcraft. The local dyers and Chinese traders have been on collision course over the “invasion” of their trade by the later, a situation that led to a series of protest by the over 30,000 dyers in the state. But a statement by the secretary general of the association, Yakubu Ishaq, said the Chinese traders in the state have agreed to stop imitating the local dyers’ products in order not to make the local products less attractive to buyers. “Henceforth, the Chinese will no longer under whatever guise import imitated products of the Kano dyers,” said the statement. Mr. Ishaq said the MOU, which was signed at the office of the state commissioner for Commerce, Trade and Investment, Rabiu Bako, will help preserve a trade the city of Kano prides itself on centuries ago. With this development, the secretary general said normalcy and progress of both parties was in sight. |

http://leadership.ng/news/458036/mdcn-arrests-fake-female-doctor-with-rauz-hospital-in-abuja A fake female doctor, Nwosu Angela Njide, has been arrested by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) and handed over to the police. The Head of Department of the Inspectorate Unit of the MDCN, Dr Henry Okwuokenye, who carried out the arrest, told LEADERSHIP that the council has been on the tail of the impostor for more than a year now as she has been evading arrest. He said the fake doctor who is in her 30s had confessed to have worked in different places, including the British American Tobacco (BAT) clinic, Ibadan, the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) and eventually in Rauz Hospital, Apo in Abuja before nemesis caught up with her. Okwuokenye narrated that the fake doctor’s ordeal began more than a year ago when she went to Oyo State to register for her license to practice at the ministry of Health under the Oyo State Director, Medical Services. However, luck ran out on her as the officials of the ministry became suspicious of her qualifications and went to the MDCN to verify the authenticity of her claims. Nwosu claimed to have graduated from medical school 2005 at University of Nigeria, Nsukka and did housemanship at UNTH, but she failed simple questions any medical student is expected to know. Following the refusal of the Oyo State Ministry of Health to register her, she was said to have relocated to Abuja, and brazenly went on her own to the MDCN to register for her license. Okwuokenye said, ” Nwosu came to the council to apply for a new folio number, unique to every practising doctor in Nigeria, in attempt to get full registration. “We checked and she was not on the list. She claimed to have graduated from UNN, but we went to verify and we discovered that it was all lies. As at this time she was on the run.” He said they got to know that she was working with Rauz Hospital, Apo for almost a year until few days ago. The HoD disclosed that it was a phantom interview which the council used as a dragnet to lure her where she eventually fell at Dutse Alhaji in Bwari Municipal Council in FCT. Nwosu’s arrest makes her the first female fake doctor on the record of the MDCN.

http://www.pmnewsnigeria.com/2015/08/27/ejigbo-residents-jubilate-over-road-construction/ The residents of Ejigbo, a suburb of Lagos State, western Nigeria, have hailed the determination of the state government led by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to construct the their major road in the area. They said the ongoing construction which is near completion has shown that Ambode was determined to transform the state. The busy Ejigbo-Ikotun road had been neglected over the years which had caused the residents untold hardship due to traffic congestion. The residents had pleaded with past governments to come to their aid to no avail. But a few weeks after Ambode was sworn in as governor, he went and inspected the road and promised that work would commence the following week. True to his word, he deployed men of Lagos State Public Works Cooperation, LSPWC, to the area and work commenced. When our reporter visited the road, the workers of LSPWC were busy grading the road and constructing the drainage channels. . Some of the workers who spoke to our reporter said Ambode gave them a deadline to complete the road and move to other areas. They said the Governor had been busy monitoring the progress of work and would like them to complete the road within the time frame he gave them. Some of the residents who spoke to our reporter expressed their happiness and thanked Ambode for responding to their plight. A resident, Mr Kayode Williams, said when Ambode made the promise that he would commence work on the road, he did not believe him and when the workers of LSPWC brought their equipment, he did not also believe until they started to construct the culverts. He said the men have been working daily and striving to complete the work on schedule. He thanked the state government for their prompt response. Another resident who identified herself as Dayo Omowunmi said she was impressed about the progress made so far on the road. She said, initially, she did not believe it will be a reality, adding that with the determination of the workers and the governor to complete the work, their plight will soon end. She recalled her experience on the road, saying due to traffic congestion caused by bad road, it usually takes the residents several hours to get to work. Emeka Ibeh, a trader at Ladipo market who resides in Ejigbo, said because of the deplorable state of the road, he usually wakes up around 5:00 am to prepare for work. He said even when he wakes up early, he still gets to his shop late because of traffic jam. He hoped that after the completion of the road, movement from Ejigbo will be easier and commended Ambode for fulfilling his campaign promise.
