http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/dickson-to-tan-take-your-campaign-to-states-where-the-opposition-has-greater-control/199562/ Bayelsa State Governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson, has once again taken a swipe at the Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria (TAN), the political group led by the First Lady, Mrs. Patience Jonathan, as the war over the control of the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) continues. The governor who, at the weekend, mobilised Bayelsans from all the local government areas to rally support for President Goodluck Jonathan’s re-election bid in the February 14 presidential elections, called on groups like TAN and others in the state, putting up campaign structures for the president, other than the PDP, to take their activities to states where the opposition is presently enjoying greater control. While, urging TAN and other groups like it not to dissipate energy campaigning for president in the state, the governor, assured that, Bayelsa, being the home State of the President, will give the PDP bulk votes come February 14 and subsequent elections in the country. Speaking during the inauguration of the 120-member Bayelsa State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Team flag off of campaigns at the Peace Park in Yenagoa, Governor Dickson explained that the 120 membership of the committee was constituted to effectively coordinate the activities of the election of President Jonathan. He said members of the committee should consider it a rare privilege and an opportunity to serve on a committee that would coordinate the campaign activities of the president that is one of their own and enjoined them to work assiduously to justify the confidence reposed in them. “It is my singular honour and privilege to appreciate members and leaders of our party, who willingly accepted to serve in this important and historic assignment. It is historic, because it is not every day, that you get to work on a committee that will coordinate the election of one of your own, Jonathan. “It is important because our nation and our people are at a turning point and we need to get him re-elected to finish the job that he has started. And it is for that reason that we have composed the state presidential campaign team, that will be chaired by me. “Let me appreciate our party for always standing by us. Our party is the only platform that is not founded on the frontlines of our nation. There are some other parties, that are founded on ethnic and religious calculations. “Our party is an all-inclusive umbrella body, that has space for all Nigerians; the so-called majority and the so-called minority. Describing Bayelsa State as the home base of the PDP, the governor emphasised the need for Bayelsans to work with unity of purpose and shun any form of divisive tendencies and violence capable of tarnishing the image of the state.” Dickson, who said the state was looking forward to playing host to Nigerians on February 5 when President Jonathan is expected to visit for his presidential campaign, noted that, the occasion would be a homecoming to the president, as he is a son of the state. While thanking Nigerians for their support for the President, in the midst of daunting challenges, he urged them to give Jonathan their mandate for a second term to enable him finish the good works he has started.Dickson to TAN: Take Your Campaign to States Where the Opposition Has Greater Control |

http://www.dailytrust.com.ng/daily/top-stories/44195-jonathan-meets-obasanjo-in-adeboye-oyedepo-s-presence President Goodluck Jonathan met yesterday with his estranged godfather, former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta in the presence of two top clerics. Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of Redeemed Christian Church of God and Bishop David Oyedepo, General Overseer of Living Faith Church attended the meeting as witnesses at Obasanjo’s request, Daily Trust learnt. Jonathan had tried in the past months to meet with the former President at his Abeokuta home. But Obasanjo had always insisted that he won’t receive Jonathan at home, but would rather show respect and meet the President in the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja. It was gathered that the move is to prevent past occurrences where the duo were misrepresented in the media. Only last week, the president who is battling the political battle of his life sought to get the blessing of Obasanjo, but, met a brick wall. And may use the presence of the highly respected Nigerians to commit or make u-turn on some policies and actions of the Peoples Democratic Party, which had rubbed off negatively on Obasanjo. The meeting was scheduled to hold in the afternoon before Jonathan’s presidential rally began in Abekuta. However, the former President and chairman, Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), reportedly left his Abeokuta Hilltop house at exactly 2.59pm, while president failed to show up. Sources close to Obasanjo hinted that President Jonathan was not on the list of guests expected yesterday, even as another claimed the number one citizen does not need such listing. Operatives of the State Security Service (SSS) who had earlier besieged the Obasanjo’s Hilltop mansion as early as 6a.m in anticipation of the President’s arrival also left the place at 3: 36p.m when it became obvious that Jonathan was no longer coming. However, by 7pm, Jonathan and the two prominent clerics assembled at Obajsanjo’s house and the meeting got underway. Journalists were barred from entering the house, but hungry for news they waited outside. About two hours later news filtered out that President Jonathan had left the house through a private exit. The other guests were also not seen, and no one was available for comment as at press time. |
http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/01/well-deliver-kanos-five-million-votes-buhari-ganduje/ KANO—Kano State’s Deputy Governor and All Progressives Congress governorship candidate for the forthcoming general elections, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has given assurance that Kano will deliver its over five million votes to General Muhammadu Buhari during the presidential election. Dr. Ganduje, who made the promise while unveiling his blueprint for Greater Kano, stated that registered voters would be mobilized to achieve the set goals. He disclosed that “The die is cast, we are ready for the race and we are working hard to give Kano maximum votes to Gen. Buhari during the forthcoming general election”. The Deputy Governor said that he would consolidates on the achievements of his predecessor if elected governor, adding that innovative ideas would also be introduced to reinvigorate to complete the existing projects. He added that his administration would give emphasis to quality education to halt the dwindling fortunes of the sector, stressing that “Quantity without quality is like tea without sugar”. Dr. Ganduje, who lamented the outrage generated by the nomination of his running mate appealed to aggrieved members to work for the success of the party in the forthcoming general elections.

http://www.newsexpressngr.com/news/detail.php?news=8838&title=Warm-reception-for-Biafra’s-delegation-to-African-Union-meeting-in-Kenya The delegation of the Supreme Council of the Elders of Indigenous People of Biafra was accorded warm reception at a five-day meeting of the African Union (AU) held in Nairobi, Kenya. The team returned to the country at the weekend even as another group dispatched to Cote d’Ivoire to thank the government and the people for harbouring the late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu during his sojourn between1970 and 1982, has also returned. The Nigerian civil war ended in 1970. Briefing newsmen in Nnewi, Anambra State, yesterday, Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Elders of Indigenous People of Biafra, Dr. Dozie Ikedife, said the pro-Biafran group which had recently been admitted as a member of Economic, Social and Cultural Council (ECOSOCC) of the AU, sent its delegation for the first time since admission to be part of delebrations at the Africa’s apex body to facilitate its diplomatic approach for self-determination. “The delegates have returned. The meeting in Nairobi, Kenya, lasted between December 18 and 22. Reports showed they were warmly received and given a place of recognition and honour to participate fully as members at the ECOSOCC meeting. They met other representatives from other countries and exchanged cordialities with them,” Dr. Ikedife said. Although he did not disclose the outcome of the meeting since it did not concern the pro-Biafran group alone, according to him, there would be a stronger delegation at the next meeting for fuller and more active participation. On the group sent to Cote d’Ivoire, the former President-General of Ohaneze Ndigbo also said: “32 years after our brother, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, returned from Cote d’Ivoire, we feel obliged that according to customary law, if somebody has done you a favour, no matter how long it has taken, you will go and say ‘thank you’. We sent a delegation of three people, comprising a medical doctor, a religious leader up to the rank of a bishop and a well articulated Biafran war veteran. They went with a thank-you letter and some gift items according to our custom. The government and people of Cote d’Ivoire received them with appreciation.” Dr. Ikedife said the same thank-you visit would be paid to Gabon for sending relief materials to war-devastated Igbo and lifted their kwashiorkor-stricken children to take care of them. The elder statesman disclosed that plans have reached an advanced stage to give a befitting funeral to Igbo sons and daughters who died during the civil war. He said a group had attempted to do that but could not. Dr. Ikedife said that a governor, whose name he did not mention, had agreed to organise the funeral. |
http://sunnewsonline.com/new/?p=97527 Former old Anambra State Governor, Dr Pius Chukwuemeka Ezeife, is one of those who passionately believe in ideological-based two-political system as an ideal way to achieve good governance. However, in this interview, he dismissed the present two parties as an agglomeration of politicians without address. He also warned of the danger of possible disintegration of the country, if voting pattern in 2015 general election suggests that some people are born-to-rule and others born-to-be ruled. Excerpts: What is your prediction of the 2015 presidential election with the emergence of Gen Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress APC? You have asked a very big question. Nigeria is at a crossroads. One way leads to what people have been predicting for Nigeria-disintegration. The other way leads to a strong, more virile and purposeful Nigeria. Which way will it be? Before I give an answer, let me adumbrate the problem of Nigeria. It will surprise you to hear me say that the chief problem of Nigeria is religious intolerance. Some people; not very many but many enough to cause concern, are bent on Islamising Nigeria. And unfortunately, the West-America and her allies seem to believe that those who want to Islamise Nigeria are determined enough to win at the end. And in the eyes of the Western powers, an islamised Nigeria will be very difficult for world governance. There is a continuing effort to Islamise Nigeria...... |

So they dig this up becos of buhari By Ibrahim Shuaibu Kano — The late military Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha, did not loot the national treasury contrary to the general impression, two military former heads of state have said. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, who ruled Nigeria between 1983 and 1985, and his successor, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, gave Abacha the clean bill in Kano yesterday after the rememberance prayers marking 10 years of the death of Abacha, who ruled between 1993 and 1998. Abacha was accused of stealing nearly £5 billion while in office, out of which over $1 billion has reportedly been recovered from various sources around the world. But Babangida, who described Abacha as a "courageous, loyal and honest military head of state who stood for the unity and development of the country during his years in government", has dismissed the allegations. He said the looting allegations against Abacha were unfounded and baseless, stressing that "it is not true that he looted public treasury. I knew who Abacha was because I was close to him". Babangida said: "Abacha was a courageous person who stood firmly in handling the affairs of the country during his regime." He added that the regime of Abacha brought positive changes in the country which should have been emulated. He said 10 years after the death of Abacha, his contributions to the nation's economy remain indelible. "There is no doubt, during his administration as head of state, Abacha contributed his best to the nation's economy which we are still enjoying," he said. Babangida's new position however contrasts with what he told Newswatch magazine in July 2000. He had said: "The revelations [on Abacha's loot] surprised me. I am surprised, because I didn't know." He had also explained that Abacha's death brought "relative stability", adding that "it gives us, oh well, let's see, there is hope after all". Babangida, in that interview, also blamed the society for allowing Abacha to grow into the dictator he became. "I feel bad that society failed to realise that they have a duty to protect whatever values they hold dear to their hearts as far as this country is concerned. At any rate, there are people I like and do respect those who stood against the regime, who are not military officers but civilians who are able to speak out. They didn't mince words and if their views had been heard, he wouldn't have [done enough harm]," he had said in response to a question. Buhari, in his own comments yesterday, described the allegations of looting against Abacha as "baseless", because according to him, "ten years after Abacha, those allegations remain unproven because of lack of facts". While also commenting, former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, who took over when Abacha died on June 8, 1998, commended his predecessor for initiating Vision 2010, saying that the economic vision of the present administration termed Vision 2020 is a replica of Abacha's 2010 initiative. Abubakar also tasked Nigerian politicians to concentrate on how best to contribute to national development instead wasting time and money investigating their predecessors, adding that probing past administrations "does not yield anything positive to the nation and should be discouraged". Babangida also spoke on the probe of his government by the immediate past administration, saying: "We are still waiting for the outcome of the probe." The three former leaders sat close to one another during the special prayer session which started exactly 10am and lasted for over one hour at an open compound belonging to the family of the former head of state. The prayer session was attended by former Abacha's aides, Emirs of Hadejia, Gumel, Jema'a and Chief Fredrick Fasehun of Odua Peoples Congress |

http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top- news/173395-1-bn-excess-crude-money-missing-faac-meeting-ends-confusion.html The Federation Accounts Allocation Committee, FAAC, meeting for November ended in confusion Tuesday as representatives of Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory accused the federal government of not accounting for about $1billion(N168 billion) of excess crude oil money. The Chairman of State Commissioners of Finance, Timothy Odaah, told reporters after the meeting which ended Tuesday night, that no state knew how the $1 billion difference reported in the Excess Crude Account balance, between October and November, came about. The FAAC meeting is a monthly gathering of state finance commissioners and the federal finance ministry and the Accountant General of the federation, where federal oil receipts are shared between the federal and state authorities. With falling oil price, the 36 states have turned more attention on the Excess Crude Account, which has depleted from more than $40 billion in 2007 to about $4 billion in 2014. Though Mr. Odaah said the discrepancy has been noted for discussion at the next FAAC meeting, his disclosure called to question how transparent the management of the excess crude revenues is. Prior to the October FAAC meeting, the Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, had told reporters that the balance of the Excess Crude Account stood at $4.11billion. At the event, the minster also revealed that the country’s external reserves rose from $36.6billion in June to $39.48billion as at October 16. She also said the balance in the Sovereign Wealth Fund (SWF) stood at $1.55 billion. But, at the end of the FAAC meeting on Tuesday, the Minister of state for Finance, Bashir Yuguda, told reporters that the current savings in the ECA had a balance of about $3.1 billion, raising questions about the $1billion difference. Mr. Odaah had said on October that owing to the dwindling revenue allocation to the states from the federation accounts as a result of falling oil prices, the states had sent a request to President Goodluck Jonathan that $2 billion be shared. But he said on Tuesday that the states had no knowledge how the balance suddenly dropped from $4.1 billion to $3.1 billion |

Ahead of today’s laying of the 2015 budget on the table for National Assembly’s consideration, Minister of Finance Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, yesterday pleaded with House of Representatives Speaker Aminu Tambuwal to facilitate the bill’s passage. There has been no love lost between the executive and the Speaker since he defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Tambuwal’s security guards have been withdrawn and he and some of the members were prevented from accessing the National Assembly complex on November 20. They were also tear gassed. In response to the police invasion and the declaration by Inspector General of Police Suleiman Abba that he does not recognise Tambuwal as Speaker, the House has restricted policemen to the gate of the complex. A principal officer, who spoke in confidence with our correspondent, said: “The Minister of Finance met with Tambuwal to solicit the support of the House for easy passage of the 2015 budget. “For about two hours, she begged the Speaker and other House leaders, including the chairmen of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, on the presentation of next year’s Appropriation Bill. “There is need to fast-track the budget in the overall interest of the country. The Minister decided to by- pass the legal cold war between the Presidency and the House to make a strong case for the nation’s economy.” Another principal officer said: “Okonjo-Iweala briefed the session on some realistic projections surrounding the 2015 budget, including the $65 per barrel benchmark. “She spoke on the likely challenges the nation might face with the implementation of the 2015 budget and the plans put in place by her ministry to manage these shocks. “She marshaled her points in an emotional manner. “She came to plead with the House to put the survival of the economy above petty politics overshadowing the activities of the House. “The nation’s economy will be in dire straits if the row over the plot to force the Speaker and others to vacate their seats festers. “I think, it is this kind of rapprochement that the nation needs. Tambuwal assured the Minister of the readiness of the House to facilitate the quick passage of the budget whenever it is presented or laid.” Notwithstanding the visit of the Minister, Tambuwal staved off the plot to force him to vacate his seat following House decision to stop the police from manning all the gates to the National Assembly Complex. Policemen have now been restricted to the entrance checkpoint, which is about two to three kilometres to the main gate of the National Assembly Complex. Instead, sergeants-at-arms were directed to take over security in the National Assembly. Besides the security build-up, it was gathered that the rejection of an ex-parte application to sack Tambuwal by Justice Ahmed Mohammed put the anti-Speaker’s camp in disarray and the plot failed. Those behind the plot have also discovered that they could not muster the required number to force Tambuwal to vacate his seat because of issues over primaries, which had forced some members to defect from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) to other parties. A source said: “We did not want a repeat of the invasion of the Assembly complex by the police. So, we haveprepared ahead to forestall any attempt to use the police to force Tambuwal to vacate his seat. We took pre-emptive measures. |

@ops has it started or it is mere speculation? Oil Nears $60 as U.S. Shale Continues Surge By Matthew RoccoPublished December 10, 2014 FOXBusiness Oil prices entered into another free-fall Wednesday after U.S. supplies unexpectedly grew and OPEC dimmed its forecast for demand. West Texas Intermediate crude oil, the U.S. benchmark, slipped under $61 a barrel for the first time since July 2009. Oil for January delivery traded as low as $60.43 a barrel. The contract was down $2.88, or 4.5%, at $60.94 a barrel in recent trading. The latest report on domestic crude inventories heightened concerns that global production is exceeding demand for oil. With traders eyeing a prolonged oil glut, thanks in large part to U.S. shale oil, futures have tumbled more than 40% since the early summer. According to the Energy Information Administration, U.S. oil inventories ended last week at 380.8 million barrels, an increase of 1.5 million barrels. Industry watchers expected refiners and traders to have less oil on hand. At the current level of stockpiles, American refineries could continue processing oil at the same pace for 23 days. Meanwhile, U.S. oil production averaged 9.1 million barrels a day for the week ended Dec. 5. That reflects a 31-year high. Gasoline supplies also climbed last week, expanding 8.2 million barrels for the largest weekly increase since September 2001. New York Harbor gasoline futures recently dropped eight cents to $1.64 a gallon. AAA said retail gasoline prices averaged roughly $2.64 nationwide Wednesday morning, down 29 cents compared to last month. The selloff in oil futures was kicked off by an updated forecast from the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, which now believes demand for its oil will fall to its weakest level in 12 years. OPEC sees demand retreating to 28.9 million barrels a day in 2015 versus 29.4 million this year. The cartel traditionally scales back production to sustain higher oil prices. However, OPEC spooked the market -- and provided some holiday cheer for drivers-- last month when it decided to maintain output of 30 million barrels a day. The announcement fueled projections that an oversupply of oil would continue into 2015. Earlier this week, Bank of America reacted to the decision by saying WTI oil could fall to $50 a barrel in the first half of 2014, while the international benchmark, Brent crude, may slump below $60. Brent oil was recently trading at $64.40 a barrel. OPEC long downplayed the wide-ranging impact of shale oil development in the U.S. The group first acknowledged that U.S. shale plays could impact demand for OPEC oil in 2013, after referring to shale oil as “a source of marginal additions” in its 2011 World Oil Outlook. In recent weeks, OPEC member Saudi Arabia has twice lowered prices for oil shipped to the U.S. in an effort to regain market share. Shale oil is extracted through a combination of hydraulic fracturing and horizontal drilling. North Dakota, Texas and other states have shown significant production growth, and the U.S. is now the world’s largest producer of oil |

http://www.punchng.com/news/obanikoro-sues-pdp-blasts-george-ogunlewe-again/ The immediate past Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, has sued the Peoples Democratic Party before a Federal High Court in Abuja over the conduct of the Lagos State governorship primary which produced Mr. Jimi Agbaje as the winner. Obanikoro said the move became necessary because the party failed to act on his petition in which he complained about the irregularities that trailed the primary. The former minister told his supporters and journalists at his campaign office in Lagos on Friday that he could not understand how the number of votes (863) could exceed the number of accredited delegates (806). He said the 48 hours timeline stipulated by the PDP Electoral Guideline to address the appeal had elapsed without a response from the party. Obanikoro said in the light of the development, only the Independent National Electoral Commission and a court could compel the party to conduct fresh primary. He said, “We must stand by the truth and the truth is that last Monday’s primary must be cancelled and re-conducted. “We turned in our petition on Tuesday, thinking that on Thursday, the party would reply according to its guidelines but it has not responded as we speak. “When I noticed that the party did not respond, we went to a Federal High Court and sued the party. “I stand for a greater Lagos and anything that will derail that journey will be fought with every drop of my blood.” According to him, it is unfortunate that the PDP leaders in Lagos State, Chief Bode George and Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe, used religion to advance the candidature of Mr. Jimi Agbaje, who won the primary. He, however, described both George and Ogunlewe as the masterminds of the “fraudulent” primary. Obanikoro said both leaders had never won elections at their polling units and wondered how they could help the PDP win next year’s general elections. He said after his (Obanikoro’s) loyalists cleared the three senatorial districts at the senatorial primary on Sunday; George became jittery and hatched the plan to rig the governorship primary the following day. He said Ogunlewe and the chairman of the primary committee, Senator Seidu Kumo, shared the same office when they were both at the Senate. He said, “Chief Olabode George thinks that he could just bark and people like us would sit down but I think by now, he would have got the message and we will stand shoulder to shoulder. “This is not about age because if you want to be respected, you must respect yourself. “We told him at the beginning that if he wants to be the unifier and be an umpire, he has to be above board but he and Ogunlewe did not do that, they became the Director-General and Deputy Director-General of Agbaje Campaign Organisation.” |
