The Minister of State for Education, Goodluck Nanah Opiah blamed Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU, over the impasse between the union and federal government.

President Muhammadu Buharri has approved the increment of Duty Tour Allowances (DTA) for Government officials and workers.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Friday said it is initiating processes for an immediate appeal against the acquittal of former Plateau State Governor, Jonah Jang and Yusuf Pam.

A Plateau High Court, in Jos, had today, Friday, September 2, 2022 discharged and acquitted Jang and Mr Yusuf Pam of N6.3 billion corruption charges proffered against them by the EFCC.

Jang, a former governor of Plateau and Mr Yusuf Pam, a former cashier in the office of the Secretary to the State Government have been standing trial since May 4, 2018.

The EFCC dragged the duo to court over 17 count charges bothering on diversification and misappropriation state funds.

The Presiding Judge, Justice Christen Dabup who delivered the judgement, said that the court did not find Jang and Pam guilty of any of the charges.

“The court did not find the accused persons guilty of any of the charges and they are hereby discharged and acquitted,” she said.

But the EFCC, in a statement issued by its spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren said the attention of the commission had been drawn to the judgement of Justice C.L Dabup of the Plateau State High Court sitting in Jos, which acquitted Jang and Pam.

“The attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has been drawn to the Friday, September 2, 2022 judgment of Justice C.L Dabup of the Plateau State High Court sitting in Jos, discharging and acquitting a former governor of Plateau State, Senator Jonah David Jang and a former cashier in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, OSSG , Yusuf Pam, of the seventeen- count charges bordering on criminal breach of trust and misappropriation of Plateau State funds to the tune of N6.3 billion.

“The Commission has initiated processes for an Appeal immediately,” he said.

The Nigerian Immigration Services has given reasons for Passport Fees desparity in the country. Reacting to the outrage by Nigerians online, NIS stated that some northern states are still on electronic mode system and yet to be linked to the enhanced E-Passport Center.

Nigerians condemned different rates on NIS website as the rate showed that in Ekiti, Imo, Abia, Ogun states has N10,750 while the fee for Sokoto, Adamawa, and Kaduna is N25,000. Statement from NIS Twitter handle insisted that passport are issued regardless of where any applicants resides.

Nigerian musician and rapper Ice Prince,was at the early hours of this morning arrested in Lagos for Assaulting Police Officer who flagged him down for a routine stop and search.

According to the spokesperson of Lagos State Police command, Benjamin Hundeyin, said that Ice Prince Zamani was seen driving without a number plate and was flagged down by police officers. In the attempt to take him to police station which he had earlier agreed on, he thereafter abducted and assaulted the police officer in his car and threatened to throw him inside the river.

The police spokesperson finally Revealed that he has arrested and will arraigned this today. He also shared on his Twitter page, clauses in police act prohibiting assault of police officers or wilful resist of arrest by suspects or any other person.

The Independent National Electoral Commission,(INEC) has announced the date for final Release of 2023 presidential and Governorship Candidates list.

INEC chairman,Prof. Mahmood Yakubu released the date on Thursday during a meeting organized by Centre for Democracy and Development in Abuja with the theme, “conducting Nigeria’s 2023 Elections in a volatile security environment”

Barrister Chima Amagwula,who is also the Labour Party’s State Assembly Candidate for Oru East State Constituency Imo State,has petitioned the Chairman of Independent National Electoral commission, over humongous numbers of Registered Voters in Omuma Ward. Oru East Local Government Area has Omuma as one its Wards.

According to the petition seen by Newsinsummary,Bar. Chima vehemently objected to the unsubstantiated numbers recorded in the just concluded INEC registration. The said total number of voters has rose from 6500 to 45000 registered voters since 2014 to 2022. Given the total number of adults in Omuma, which is not more than two thousand five hundred (2500) , INEC Reportedly registered additional 12000 voters to the already existing fictitious numbers, the petition revealed.

Chima in his petition, further revealed that Omuma Ward until 2014 was having only 14 pooling units with about 6,500 Registered Voters. Consequently, the number of Registered Voters has geometrically risen to 30,000 and now to 45,000 after the just concluded Registration. The total number of pooling units equally rose 46,as against its previous 14 pooling units.

The petitioner however, drew the attention of INEC chairman alleging irregularities and fraud in the registration process as there was no way the number of Registered Voters will jump given insecurity ravaging Omuma and its environs.

Point of Sales transactions hit a record high of 4.6trillion in the first seven months of 2022. It represents a 29.3% increase if compared to 3.56trillion recorded in 2021.
