For F-1, they do in one week to a month. The closer the resumption, the more accelerated. For tourists, people have been on admin for over a year (especially, those from red flag countries).

i my view your visa transcript was not bad, but i think the reason for your delay was because you didn't write any standardized test. no standardized exams = POTENTIAL MIGRANT to most VOs[/b].
i will advice you prepare and write a standardized test and then you can file again.

Actually, all F-1 holders are potential migrants and they know this. No standardized test probably means not so serious about school.

I don’t think taking a test (for sole purpose of visa interview) is a good investment. He may never even be asked about it in his next interview. There are other parts he could sell, such as where he had the experience (assuming it’s a good brand).

There are jobs only in consulting and banks. Big four firms, Access bank and co.

Anything outside that, no! Especially if you studied Engineering, you’d be forced to go to Big Four or a bank.

By the way, since that FPSO landed in Nigeria, TOTAL has not blinked light on recruitment. Who will run that ship? That Nigeria sef. Better leave!

I was thinking I will come here to share a success story but God changed the plan but I know it's never too late cos I might be applying in 3 days time again. Please I need somebody to advise me here on what I can do.

Here is how my interview went some hours ago.

As a sharp and smart boy I got distabilised after knowing the DS 160 INFORMATION on my visa appointment confirmation page is not thesame as that in my DS 160 but u played along since I can't go back home. Luckily for me, the scanner rejected the barcode on my confirmation page but they were able to verify with the ds 160 barcode page itself.

So the interview proper.

VO. Good morning morning

Omo I smile with confidence I said good morning..

VO.. where are you going to

Told him ***** University located in the city of ***** United States.

VO... was it the only school you applied to

No I applied to another school too.... Murray state university but I didn't continue with the application after confirming that their syllabus and available courses does not match my long term goal.

I don dey happy cos I was talking with confidence and am sure people on the queue self go dey look say who be this one wey just dey ginger.

VO.. DID you take any exams

No it was not part of the requirement.

(Seriously the school I applied to didn't require any exam instead they only verified my waec after sending them my waec details online.)

VO.... Why MBA since I am an accounting graduate.

I KNOW I bleeped UP HERE.... I had to say different convincing reasons just to make him understand that I know what am doing but at the end I just ended it with I am a student of ICAN and I have acquired all the required skills needed in the area of accounting so am going to use this as an avanue to build my portfolio and also gather Lotta managerial and leadership skills.

VO... Are you chartered

I just pause... I for don lie say yes.. I just had to say the truth by saying no but in my final stage.

VO... Am sorry you are not eligible..... M go and read ds130 eligibility.. Bla Bla Bla...

Na so my eyes red o just had to leave the embassy and went back to home.

This just happened today 23/02/2018.

Please house... My I-20 is still valid and the expiring date in it (least date of entering the US is 28 March.. In a month time) can anybody advise me on what do do.. Should I reapply and what do you actually think went wrong.

Thanks all... I was thinking it's going to be a success story but God knows best all.

The person was probably wondering why you want to go and start another endeavour when you have not finished ICAN yet. If it were vacation visa, final stage of ICAN would have been a positive tie

Was the OP written by a professor?? The grammatical potholes are just too many for comfort.

For what its worth he did give some useful insight into the world of the PhD.

Secondly I see some comments claiming one can get a PhD in 3yrs!! Na winch?? The minimum, on paper, in most universities, is 4yrs, but in reality you usually need a much longer time.

In a sane UK university, yes, three years. In the US, 5 years. In Nigeria, mehn, I don’t know.

When you’re going for your PhD, everyone will be praising you as an efiwe. They will not know the kind of depression and social bereavement you are going through

What do you need it for? I mean to say: there have been more recent accounting texts that can help with the existing accounting developments. Is it ICAN, ACCA, or B.Sc. school work? There are more recent materials available online.

Hello guys please I need your advice on something. I have a younger sister that has been in Ukraine for almost a month now doing a language preparation program in preparation for this fall in Ukraine. So far she's not liking of at all in Ukraine and has plans of starting afresh in the u.s. She intends to fly in from Ukraine to Lagos around May for her visa interview.
The question I want to ask is that does she have a chance at the interview given the fact that she already has a student visa to another country.

I think she can apply for the visa in Ukraine. That said, if she does in Lagos, the consular may be wondering what happened that she changed her mind. She probably wants to say that she just took language preparation course as you said.

Answering your question, yes, she has a better chance.

If you want to leave the country (permanently) immediately after your graduation, then think within the lines of Economics, Finance, Accounting (if you want to be a US CPA as US uses US GAAP while Nigeria uses IFRS). You can also choose specialized courses in these field, such as Developmental Economics, Quantitative Finance, etc.

If you plan to come back to Nigeria after your course, then don't bother travelling, just stay and smash your ICAN - it is more important than a Master's for you, for a finance job.

Thanks so plentiful for the insightful feedback bro. That means I will be looking at Spring 2019 but I still need some clarifications on issues baffling me;

1. Will I apply for the GRE before hand or I must study for 2 to 3 months first and apply afterwards?
2. When exactly is advisable to apply to schools as I'm eyeing spring 2019 now?

1. You can first start preparing and when you know you are fit, then register for the test.

2. Check the websites of the schools for deadlines, then you can clear your GRE like three weeks before deadline and apply to the school before deadline.

Why do you assume, though, that I'm a bro. That's kind of sexist lol.

This person should graduate first. These days the course that you studied does not really matter. As long as he graduates with a minimum of 2:1, and in a much better position, a First Class, he would get a job.

But please, tell him to delete his passion for Microbiology if he wants to stay in Nigeria - he'll just be in one dead unfunded, unequipped lab somewhere. Otherwise, he should go to more developed countries where his passion for microbiology would be realized.

If he wants to stay in Nigeria, though, jobs yapayaski. Deloitte, KPMG, Mckinsey, PwC, Banks, etc. None of them would look at your course of study, as long as your grades are tight.

Best wishes

This message isn't actually for me but there's a part of it I'm particularly interested in which is the Gre part. You said if he has not written gre at this time, he's not likely to meet up with fall entry. I think fall semester starts by August. Isn't there ample time between now and then? I am asking this cuz I'm also planning to start the whole visa processing from the beginning. I've not done anything sef aside from going through this group. Can't I also make fall 2018 either so I can focus on spring 2019? Thanks

I'm assuming that the person has not applied to any school. Before you apply, you need some time to prepare for the test. Let's say you take the test by March, many (good) schools would have reached deadlines for the Fall semester by then. So you may not likely meet up.

Nonetheless, if you are from India or maybe China grin, you can prepare for a short time and meet up with January or February deadlines, depending on the school. Do you get?

Thanks very much . I sincerely appreciate your response . My transcript is in English already . I will contact the department as said . How do I go about the GrE and how long does it take ? Thanks once again

I'm sure there are threads that have discussed this in the past. Play around NL, you could find them.

You can register for the GRE/GMAT via ets.org/mba.com respectively. Some, in Nigeria, register through all these local agencies to get books et al.

Some people (like Indians grin) prepare for a day, while some others prepare over year. It depends on your (quant/vocab) background - just write when you are ready.
