Nairaland / General / Is A Construction Company Authorized By Law To Block Road Access? by AceLove: 6:47pm On Nov 02, 2017
This morning in Port Harcourt, residents that access the Slaughter Bridge was confronted by a blockage instituted by RCC without any form of warning or alternative. This blockage has since thrown major roads in PH into traffic theaters.

This construction company blocked a major road because they are constructing another bridge which doesn't look like they will complete in the next two weeks. They did this even when they can complete the new bridge without bringing this inconvenience on taxpayers.

This made me wonder how these guys obtain this authorization? If there's any at all, do they present a plan showing how they can best inflict the least inconvenience on the populace? Who gives this approval?

Music/Radio / Re: Ten Biggest Nigerian Songs Of All Time by AceLove: 8:47am On Jul 12, 2017
Op I don't know what you mean by most popular songs of all time? And you don't have a Fela, a Sunny Okosun, a Sunny Ade, an Onyeka Onwenu? Let me not join issues with you.

In my opinion, I don't think Wizkid's Ojuelegba was really big all over Nigeria especially when you compare it with other songs on your list such as Inyanya's Kurukere or Davido's Aye. No need to argue bring the songs out on the streets to find proof. The whole craze the Ojuelegba generated was because some foreign artists had a jump on it.

I personally don't think we need foreign validation on what is ours. Just as they don't send if their music pleases us in Africa.

PS: This is not to deny or remove the merits of Ojuelegba or the artist Wizkid. I think both are phenomenal in their own right.

So in good conscience, some people are in this same South Africa pouting their mouths in celebration while their fellow countrymen and women are being persecuted for no just cause.

SMH. Aunty not only are you and your friends taking capital to a country that have sworn to see nothing but evil in your country, you are giving them free publicity too. I don't want to remember those ones in that Big Brother house.

How about you do the little in your means to protest the injustice delivered to your fellow Nigerians? A little boycott and a press release would have done a lot than you know.

We really need to stop this foolery and be responsible for once!

Nairaland / General / Is It Ok For A Bail Condition To Be In A Foreign Currency. ..worse In Cash? by AceLove: 3:38pm On Jan 26, 2017
Came across the story below and couldn't help but wonder why a judge will set a bail specifically in a foreign currency (US dollars: $250,000 cash), and especially in this current economic reality?

Following the remand of the Vice Chancellor of the Elizade University, Ilara-Mokin in Ifedore local government area of Ondo state, Prof. Kunle Oloyede,by a magistrate Court in Akure, Ondo state capital, his family has cried out over the possibilities of meeting the bail terms given to the embattled VC.

Oloyede who was dragged to the Magistrate Court for alleged fraudulent practices in the award of contract by the university, has been remanded in Olokuta prison for the past 10 days over his inability to meet the bail conditions given by Magistrate Ayodeji Akinsanya .

Some of the conditions to be fulfilled by Oloyede to guarantee his temporary release included the submission of his international traveling documents, two sureties who are directors in the State Civil Service and the payment of $250,000 in cash.

Addressing reporters on Wednesday at the court premises,, the wife of Prof Oloyede, Lade and the lawyer to the family, Mr Olusola Oke alleged that the bail conditions which included the payment of $250,000 in cash upfront could not be met because of the economic situation of the country.

Mrs Oloyede lamented that the bail conditions given to her husband by the court was an indication that the embattled VC had been convicted even before the trial.

She said “The case for the prosecution was presented by the Attorney-General of Ondo State, Mr. Remi Olatubora, which we have been advised by various senior legal sources is unusual. The special interest of the Ondo State AG, to “prosecute” a complaint lodge is still mind troubling smell of bias.

“Professor Oloyede was arraigned and charged at Akure Magistrate with a bailable offence and the bail hearing was held on Tuesday 17 January 2017. It is cleared that the whole judicial system was rigged when bail condition was set in US dollars at an amount of $250,000USD to be paid in cash upfront!
“Professor Oloyede has a right to file a variation for this set bail, however repeated attempts to present the variation request in court were frustrated such that Professor Oloyede remained in custody in excess of one week.

“ No one knows for how long, Prof Oloyede will remain in custody as the prosecution, with significant involvement from the Attorney General of Ondo State has advised the court that they will not have a lawyer available to present for a hearing until Friday 27 January 2017, which is the date that the trial is due to commence.

“It is believed that the prosecution is intentionally obstructing the hearing of the variation in order to keep Professor Oloyede locked up in custody until the trial and is therefore denying his basic human right to a fair judicial process.
However, Olatubora said he has right under Section 211 of the 1999 constitution to prosecute case in any courts in the land and that the case of Prof Oloyede would not be any different

Your advice has been noted and duly discarded.

Thank God you said 'saner climes'. I never said Nigeria is a 'sane clime' because in saner climes we won't have every misguided riffraff disrupting social and economic activities in the name of agitation. (Meanwhile the people pushing these boys to constitute nuisance and get themselves killed are safely ensconced with their families in their homes).

In saner climes we will have well equipped, well trained anti-riot policemen to handle the said riffraff, not soldiers who have no business been on the streets in the first place.

Nigeria is nowhere near a 'sane clime'

Your life. Your choice.

I wish you well. smiley

And yet some semi-literate dafts in Port Harcourt went on a street demonstration to celebrate Trump's inauguration. The difference between these protests and the one in PH is 'legitimacy'. These protesters in US and UK have permits to hold a demonstration of this magnitude, but the Biafrans in PH obviously took on laws into their hands and went into the streets to constitute nuisance. We all know how that ended.

There is no justice in this country. We have not finished with the myriad of problems we have and these jobless IPOB youths are adding theirs. If you die for nonsense, you die for nothing.

I don't pity anyone who got shot in PH during their so called 'Trump celebration'.

Modified: Those quoting me to type rubbish are a reflection of what IPOB stands for: lawlessness. It is also an indication of why the trigger happy Nigerian army are shooting you people upandan like rabid dogs.

Kwantinue. They will keep using you people to vent their frustrations.

As for those cursing themselves not me, I return your curses back to you and your household 1000 folds.

shocked shocked shocked Wow! How could you bear so much hate in you? You justify people being killed on the streets because they share a different view and refused a permit to exercise their right? And even worse you defend this unfortunate comment?

I will advise you take a break before you self destruct. In saner climes that's what will normally be expected at least but we're in a country where someone can claim to accidentally bomb an IDP camp and nothing happens.

Education / Re: Why Is Sorting So Rampant In State Universities? by AceLove: 6:50am On Dec 27, 2016
I think it's a problem in government schools, made rampant by a combination of several factors like quality of lecturers, teaching facilities, number of students, laziness on the part of students and something I just call Nigerian factor.

The last point is something we notice in almost every Nigerian affair. That something seems to eternally frustrate anyone trying to do the right thing, making sure nothing works in our system.

Car Talk / Quick Meaning Of 'P','R','N','D','2','L' And 'OD' For Autogears by AceLove: 10:34am On Mar 22, 2016
I have always wondered what the signs 'P','R','N','D','2','L' on automatic gear transmission systems represent and decided to google it. And so I share this info hoping it may be of help to someone somewhere.

So here we go:

• P (PARK) - the gear selector should be in this position when the car is parked as it typically locks the transmission so that the car cannot move. In conjunction with this, the parking brake (hand brake) may also be applied. On most cars, the engine cannot be started unless the lever is in this (or 'N') position.

• R (REVERSE) - selecting this position allows the vehicle to be driven in the reverse (backwards) direction.

• N (NEUTRAL) - in this position, the engine is disconnected from the drive train (gears) and the vehicle will not be propelled in either direction when the gas (accelerator) pedal is pressed. The wheels are not locked and the vehicle will be able to roll downhill if the brake pedal is not pressed.

• D (DRIVE) - this is the position that is typically used when the vehicle is being driven. As the vehicle increases (or decreases) in speed, the automatic gear box will select the correct gear for both speed and road conditions.

• 2 (GEAR 2) - typically, automatic gear boxes have 3 of 4 forward gears, so some vehicles may have both 2 and 3 marked on the hear selector. By using this position, the driver 'locks' the transmission in a lower gear so that the engine will run with increased revolutions. This is useful when rapid acceleration is desired. It should be noted that maintaining high revolutions in lower gears will increase the fuel consumption of the vehicle and also the stresses on the vehicle and passengers. It should therefore be used for short periods only.

• L (LOW) - (may be indicated by '1') this is the lowest gear (or 1st gear) available. This position is useful when the vehicle needs to negotiate difficult terrain (such as a steep incline with a poor surface). For downward slopes, the LOW gear provides additional braking through the engine.

• OD (OVERDRIVE) - for vehicles fitted with this option, an extra gear is provided that has a lower ratio than the normal top gear. The power output delivered by this gear is low in comparison to the normal gears and is used for high speed cruising (on interstates / motorways etc). Engine revolutions are reduced, as are noise levels. Fuel consumption is improved

Nairaland / General / Boko Haram In Nigeria Runs Out Of Weapons, Ammunition As Nigerian Army Advances by AceLove: 4:21pm On Apr 23, 2015
The Boko Haram insurgents in northern Nigeria have run out of weapons and ammunition, and the Nigerian army is advancing on the militant group’s remaining territory in Borno state’s Sambisa Forest, military sources and residents told local reporters Thursday. The intensified military operation by Nigerian and coalition forces has reportedly weakened the Islamic militant group and cut off their arms supply.

“The Boko Haram terrorists have run out of arms and ammunitions as the military intensify attacks on Sambisa Forest,” a resident of Tabe village of Damboa who narrowly escaped from the area, told Vanguard news in Abuja. “You can find more than 500 members of the insurgents, with only a few of them having rifles and even when one or two of them have rifles, it is like a stick, as they have run out of ammunitions, because the usual supplies they get are not forthcoming.”

Coalition airstrikes and ground troops have stormed the Sambisa Forest, which covers more than 23,000 square miles across mostly Borno, Yobo, Gombe and Bauchi states in Nigeria’s northeast. Nigeria’s defense headquarters spokesman, Major General Chris Olukolade, told Vanguard news Thursday the operation has pushed out many Boko Haram fighters. Residents told Leadership newspaper in Abuja some militants have fled into the nearby woods of Yamtake, Tabe and Jangoro villages in the Damboa local government area of Borno state.

Crime / Car Hypnotists Caught In PH (photos) by AceLove: 1:06pm On Mar 05, 2015
I have always had my doubts about hypnotism...especially the over recycled type always told by persons who fall victim to scam artists who usually promise quick money or riches. I still believe victims of this unfortunate scam fall under the weight of their own greed than any charm but what do I know.

Yesterday, I witnessed a mob almost torch 3 suspects somewhere in Trans-Amadi Port Harcourt, for scamming a young man of his fortune.

As usual many stories abound of what really happened. Some said the robbers pushed the young man out of the car after robbing him of his money, some said the young man after giving them his money regained his consciousness just as they dropped him off and he came after them screaming thieves. Anyways, I will state the story I saw.

There was traffic caused by a large truck trying to enter one of the industrial buildings in the layout. This particular golf car had 5 occupants including the driver. The car stopped and a young man came off from the back seat but instead of walking away, he ran back to the slow moving vehicle and held a guy in the front seat by the collar and was screaming 'give me my money...thief'. As he continued to draw attention, the driver started panicking and sort a way to escape the slow traffic. Noticing the drama, a man in a jeep blocked the golf with the help of a tricycle. People came and pulled the guy out of the vehicle and after hearing the allegation made by the victim went ahead to grab hold of other passengers in the vehicle. One of the passengers in the back seat took off, while a lady and the driver was caught.

Trust mob na...while 'general beatings' was going on, several 'pressing and squeezing' was being carried out also. Soon shouts of 'naked them' rented the air and am sure your evil mind know why...smh. How striping them naked relates to this case is really hard to tell but our people say when one turns oneself to jellof rice, children will treat/eat it without respect. Anyways, a police man was handy to stop them from doing just that but not before shooting a few rounds/tear gas in the air to disperse the crowd. With time a police vehicle came and took them away...and you can feel the relief in the thieves because in the hands of the police their chances are really really good... wink

During a wedding reception yesterday, a lady insisted in a room full of men that 90 percent of men have washed the underwear of their wives! In fact she went ahead to insist that those who have not washed are either unmarried or have yet to be involved in a serious relationship. Calling it an 'act of love'.

Of course she was immediately verbally attacked but she must be really confident of her facts to make that claim. Guys what do you think?
