Repentant bandits in Katsina State have released additional 30 kidnapped victims, following the dialogue initiated by the state government with their leaders.


The victims were presented to Gov. Aminu Masari at the Government House on Sunday in Katsina.

The victims were kidnapped by the bandits from Kankara and Shimfida, both in Jibia Local Government area of the state.

They were thereafter taken to their hideout in Damsadau forest, Zamfara State, where they spent some weeks.

Addressing the victims, Masari said that government would continue to persuade the bandits to release more kidnapped people until all of them were freed.

He directed that the released victims be taken to hospital for medical check up before reuniting them with their respective families.

One of the victims, Zinatu Sani from Kankara, while narrating her ordeal in the hands of the bandits, said that she was kidnapped from her matrimonial home, with two of her children.


She said that the bandits demanded for a N20 million ransom before they could release her and the children.

Sani explained that the ransom was later reduced to N6 million which, she said, her family could still not afford to pay.

She said that the suspected bandits used to give them rice to cook, with only water and salt.


“For 55 days, we slept in an open place without a roof, not minding the rainfall or heat,” she lamented.

Sani expressed appreciation to the governor for securing their release, adding that there were still several other victims in the forest yearning for their release from the bandits.

The returnees were handed over to the Transition Committee Chairmen of Kankara and Jibia local government councils to ensure that they were reunited with their families after medical check up.

Operative of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Benin zonal office arrested eleven suspected internet fraudsters at their hideouts in an early morning raid in Sapele, Delta State on Saturday.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by EFCC Spokesman, Tony Orilade.

EFCC gave the names of the arrested suspects as Omomua Victor, Demi Johnson, Agufure Godstime, Agboroko Precious, Anthony Omonomo, Onskharoma Julius and Freeborn Efe. Others are Akama Precious, Tagbajiemi Promise George Raphael and Stanley Agabiri.

The raid which was conducted in the wee hours of the day was based on intelligence.

Items recovered from the suspects at the point of arrest include a laptop computer, a Mercedes-Benz car, computers, mobile phones, flash drives, and internet modems.

EFCC added that the suspects have made useful statements and will be charged to court as soon as investigations are completed.

A Federal High Court judge in Abuja on Friday convicted six undergraduates for internet related offences.


The vacation judge, Nkeonye Maha, sentenced Quarshie Nnamdi, Emmanuel Ogbole and Charles Iwu.

Others are Nuhu Usman, Ademoyegu Samson and Adunmo Sesan.

Ms Maha convicted and sentenced them to varying terms ranging from three to six months imprisonment, with option of fines N300,000, after they pleaded guilty to all the charges preferred against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

While sentencing the convicts, the judge ordered them to forfeit some of the items which include, laptops, phones among others recovered from them during investigations to the Federal Government.


Ms Maha also ordered the convicts to sign an undertaking to be of good behaviour and never to be involved in EFCC or any other form of fraud within and outside the country, adding that failure to comply will attract judicial sanctions.

She ordered the convicts to refund all the monies fraudulently obtained from their victims.

Earlier, the EFCC prosecution counsel, George Chia-Yakua, informed the court that in June, the convicts were in possession of document of Scanned FBI Logos and U.S. Naval Seal.

The anti-graft agency also said the convicts were caught with documents labelled U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces purportedly signed by Lt.- Gen. T.T Luis Rodulf and U.S Army Judge, Fort Knox, among others, which they knew contained false information.

Mr Yakua said the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 33 of the Cybercrime Prohibition & Prevention Act, 2015 and section 6 of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006.

However, due to the plea bargain agreements separately entered between them and the EFCC, the original charges were replaced with the amended charges as presented before the court on Friday. (NAN)

Governors of the 19 northern states under the platform of the Northern Governors’ Forum on Thursday settled for the National Livestock Transformation Plan of the Federal Government.

The NGF also urged other governors in other parts of the country to follow suit.

This was just as the NGF’s Chairman, Simon Lalong, also congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari on behalf of other governors on his victory at the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal which validated his victory at the February presidential poll.

The forum urged the President to carry everybody along for the next four years as he presided over the affairs of the country.

These were part of the resolutions by the governors at the end of an emergency meeting held at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House, Kaduna, in the state capital.

In the communiqué he read out on behalf of the his colleagues, the chairman, who is also the Plateau State Governor, said the National Livestock Transformation Plan would ensure peace and stability in the region as well as resettle “dislocated populations in the key conflict zones to enable them to become part of the agricultural modernisation process.”

He added, “In the same vein, it will provide a mechanism for peaceful dialogue and reconciliation in the affected communities towards a harmonious mutually beneficial future

“The forum therefore adopted the National Livestock Transformation Plan which lays out a clear path for modernising pastoral activities.”

According to Lalong, the plan will further encourage other states not included as pilot states to endeavour to join the plan/programme.

The 187 returnees comprising men, women, and children who are part of the 640 Nigerians registered for evacuation following the xenophobic attacks in South Africa arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, at 9:34pm on Wednesday.

These ones were captured in a video clip singing the national anthem with so much enthusiasm.

About 313 were billed to leave on Wednesday, but most of them could not travel with the first flight due to lack of travel documents.
