PoliticsWhat Atiku Abubakar Told Me By Remi Oyeyemi by Activeman391(op): 12:55pm On Feb 06, 2018
Great ambition is the passion of a great character.

- Napoleon Bonaparte, French Emperor

I have met His Excellency, the former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar several times. He had come across as someone who actually believes that it is either we save Nigeria now or we allow it to wither. Pinpointing that the choice is obvious, he insisted that delay could be very dangerous.

During our meetings, which touched on several issues about Nigeria, repeatedly, he kept underscoring this urgent need to repair and revamp Nigeria's UNITY. He kept insisting that there is only one way to do this - bring peace through unfettered justice and sense of belonging to all.

The former Vice President told me that the economy could only be a necessary corollary to peace ensured by justice. He insisted that a good economy would serve as a strong pedestal for the rehabilitation, refurbishment and replenishment of our health and educational services.

"It is time we stop playing games with the destiny of this country. All of us must recognize that injustice is what is fueling separatist agitations. This has to be addressed. We can't sweep it under the carpet any longer. All of us must embrace RESTRUCTURING," he volunteered.

He explained further: "There has to be a politically conducive atmosphere for the country to move forward on other fronts for us to be able to address the challenges facing our people. It is not possible the other way round. All nationalities should embrace RESTRUCTURING. It will establish trust among us all. It will renew our commitment to this country. It will go a long way to address the fears of various nationalities and make us stronger as a country. We have to do it."

"I am very glad to let you know," he made it clear to me, "that I have succeeded in convincing the elders in the North of the propriety of Restructuring. They were totally against it initially. But I am grateful to Allah that I have been able to bring them around. It has been a difficult task, but we accomplished it. With the same attitude, open mindedness and determination, we can cooperatively take Nigeria to the next level."

He informed, "Between the year 2004 when I first bought the idea of RESTRUCTURING and now, I have reviewed and updated my position paper a number of times for it to address most of the concerns of all of the ethnic nationalities in my opinion. It can't possibly satisfy one hundred percent of us all, but I am very confident that more than 75% of Nigerians will buy my idea on this subject."

I asked him, "You have been in politics for a long time. You have been the Vice President of this country. Why do you have to be President?"

"It is true, I was the Vice President of this country. But the way our Constitution works, you could only be as good and as effective as the President wants you to be. The President's ideas are what you espoused. His policies, as inspired by the Party Manifestos, are what you follow and execute," he explained.

He then added, "I want to be President to help put Nigeria on the path to the deserved greatness. I have what it takes to make this country work. I am the best prepared candidate for the Office of the President. I have not only learnt, my knowledge has increased. My vistas have improved. My horizon has extended. My perspective has widened and my vision is much more consummated. I am much more matured. I am ready."

He then extrapolated, "I have policies on what to be done. From resolving our political crisis to bringing our economy to the digital age and making it competitive. Reforming our Education to revitalizing our health sector. Kneecapping institutionalized corruption and unleashing the great potentials of this great country. I am very ready."

His Excellency told me that he is not in the business of blaming anyone. "My business as the President of this country is to proffer practical, result oriented solutions. It is to alleviate the sufferings of our people through a working economy and ensure peace through justice."

"There is too much hunger in the country. The pervasive hunger has brought about seething anger. The injustice in the land has exacerbated the anger. We are sitting on a time bomb. We have to detonate it. We cannot allow it to explode. We must rescue this generation from self destruct. We must give hope to the next generation," he further explained.

Ruminating, he looked into space and said as if soliloquizing, "I have what it takes to build a New Nigeria. I have done my homework. I have been tested. I am prepared. I will work to push and put my ideas on the Party platform. I look forward to working with other great, brilliant and talented patriotic Nigerians to actualize my dreams and vision for this country. I pray and hope that Nigerians would give me the opportunity to bring to bear my wherewithal on our present to chart the part for our future. I appeal to them to do so. I really do."

"I am in the process of putting my campaign organization together after which I will unfold the details of my agenda for the country," he promised.

“Ambition is the path to success. Persistence is the vehicle you arrive in.”

– Bill Bradley, US Senator from the State of New Jersey

PoliticsOshiomhole To Obasanjo: Mind Your Business ‘you Are Not One Of Buhari’s Advisers by Activeman391(op): 7:33am On Feb 03, 2018
Former governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, wants former leader Olusegun Obasanjo to mind his business and not comment on Buhari’s re-election.

Oshiomhole is the latest to react to former president Olusegun Obasanjo’s statement, asking President Muhammadu Buhari, to forget seeking re-election in 2019.

Oshiomhole, who was on a private visit to the President in the presidential villa, said an All Progressive Congress (APC) activist and loyalist, he came to reassure Buhari of his absolute and total support for his government and even for 2019 elections.

Asked if he was saying Buhari should not heed Obasanjo’s advise and step aside, Oshiomhole said, “I’m not sure when I see the list of the advisers that president Obasanjo is one of the advisers. But I also recall with respect that the day President Obasanjo was swearing in some of his advisers, he did say that anybody who is his adviser can advise him, he will make his own decisions. And I think that principle still stands.”

“I think that in moments like this nobody should seat on the fence. Our country have challenges and there are huge temptations here and there and is important he knows that he has men and women who even at this hour have huge confidence in his leadership ability. Everything taken to account I believe that every Nigerian who wants us to sustain some of the renewed vigor to deal with one of the most challenging problem that Nigeria has faced, namely corruption and things like that, you cannot but appreciate the president and all that has been done under his leadership this past two years and some months.”

“I think that people have to realize that the amount of damage done by the previous governments, you know when people say no blame game maybe yes, maybe no. But where I come from, people say that it s only a fool who will be working in the road, get into a pothole and fall and then get up and continue the journey, go to the hospital and treat himself. But a wise man must interrogate how and why did I fall and maybe in the cause of doing that find that there is a pothole. The first and simple thing to do is to fill that pothole before you continue on your journey and then go ahead and treat yourself.

“Nigeria was below ground level and from what you guys report that I read, we have always had challenges but never in terms of scale, magnitude what president Buhari inherited is difficult to describe.

“So, I have said so before that when you meet such a situation, your first task is to halt the drift, when you half the drift then you stabilize before you begin to go, there is no miracle about it.

“I don’t think that anybody who understands the challenge of nation building, of national economic management etc will expect that in two years you can fix in a sustainable manner all of the things that have been destroyed over 16 years before this party came into office.

PoliticsHerdsmen Killings: Corps Members Posted To Affected States Free To Redeploy, Say by Activeman391(op): 10:57am On Jan 31, 2018
The National Youth Service Corps has said that the scheme will redeploy any cores where the activities of Fulani herdsmen have led to the loss of lives.

The Director-General of the NYSC, Brig. Gen. Suleiman Kazaure, said this on Tuesday during the inspection of the NYSC Orientation Camp in Ede, Osun.

The DG, who was represented by the Director, General Service, Alhaji Abdulrasak Salaw, said this in an interview with journalists after the inspection.

He said the scheme would not post corps members into areas where they were not sure of their security and welfnot sure of their security and welfare.

Salaw, who said he was impressed by the facility and the cleanliness of the NYSC camp in Osun State said the scheme moved the orientation programme of Taraba and Benue States to Kogi State in order not to heighten panic among their parents and relatives.

He said, ” All of us must work together to ensure that the crisis is resolved. We cannot risk the lives of corps members in Benue and that is why the NYSC orientation camp was relocated from Benue to Kogi State.

“Ordinarily, Kogi and Taraba States corps members were supposed to camp in Benue State but because of this crisis, they were moved to Kogi State.

“During the course of the orientation programme, any corps member that writes that he or she is not secured in that place, we will look into it and redeploy such corps members to another state. We may not redeploy them to the state they want but we will relocate them. We cannot keep them in a place where they feel their security is threatened.”

PoliticsObasanjo's Letter: Iyabo Obasanjo Tells Buhari To Heed Obj’s Advice To Step Asid by Activeman391(op): 5:22pm On Jan 28, 2018
A former Nigerian senator, Iyabo Obasanjo, on Saturday lambasted her detractors who are currently recirculating her 2013 letter to her father.

Some social media users had recirculated the former senator’s letter to her father in 2013 in which she criticised the former president.

Ms. Obasanjo’s letter was redistributed over the weekend allegedly by some supporters of the current administration, barely a few days after her father, former President Olusegun Obasanjo circulated a “special statement” about President Muhammadu Buhari, and his administration.

Mr. Obasanjo accused the Buhari administration of incompetence, nepotism, corruption and advised Mr. Buhari not to seek re-election in 2019.

The former president then proposed a new political movement that will herald economic and social development for the country.

In a statement she personally sent to PREMIUM TIMES Saturday night, Ms. Obasanjo said the Buhari administration should focus on the content of her father’s letter and heed his counsel.

Ms. Obasanjo described her father as “one of the most brilliant leaders to ever emerge in modern Africa”.

She accused the government of sponsoring the recirculation of her scathing letter to her father, saying those who should “benefit from the advise and admonishment of one of the most brilliant leaders to ever emerge in modern Africa have resorted to a cheap tactic that further reiterates the message that they found abhorrent enough to start looking for unconnected issues to put together to make their point.”

She urged the president to yield to calls on him to step aside in 2019.

Iyabo Obasanjo attacks Buhari, says President should step down

“The wise should listen wherever help and advice comes from,” she said.

“Those who re-published the old letter should have spent time to respond to the content of the said statement which called for President Buhari to retire in 2019,” Ms. Obasanjo said, adding that Mr. Buhari’s failing health condition should dissuade him from running in 2019.

Ms. Obasanjo, who served as a senator for Ogun Central Senatorial District from 2007 to 2011, said Nigerians should be wary of any attempt to recirculate her 2013 letter and pass it off as recent and genuine.

She said she had no connection with this administration or the last one under Goodluck Jonathan.

“I agree with the open letter and I hope Africa will emerge from its current dwindling fortunes and become a leading nation in the world,” Ms. Obasanjo said.

“It is tiring to continue to be part of Nigerian conversation when there’s no positive impact to it.

“I really do not want to be part of it, as I’ve found over and over again that speech and words are wasted on people who have no understanding of responsibility on us as black people on this planet.”

Presidential spokespersons, Femi Adesina and Garba Shehu, did not immediately respond to requests seeking comments Saturday night. – Premium Times

PoliticsChristians To Participate Actively In 2019 Elections. by Activeman391(op): 8:21am On Jan 27, 2018
The Church Must Vote (CMV), an NGO on Thursday called on Christians in Nigeria to come out in masse and participate actively in the upcoming 2019 general elections.

Ikechukwu Nmor, Communication Manager, CMV, who made the call at a press briefing on Thursday in Abuja noted that research findings showed the massive underrepresention of voters who are Christians in the 2015 general elections.

Nmor said that as the 2019 general elections approaches, it is important that the elections and the outcome reflect a representative and inclusive decision of all demographics, age, gender and believes.

''The Nigeria Christian population, is estimated at about 50% is too important to let the affairs of the state to be decided by extremists.

According to him, the call is an interfaith call to moderate from other religions to come out in their numbers and vote.

''In Nigeria irrespective of age, ethnicity, career and education, the majority of citizens are first loyal to their faith before anyother identity.

'' We live in a country where there are more churches and mosques than schools and offices yet there is no significant progress to validate the presence of religion.

''Most Christians in Nigeria hide behind the mask of praying for the nation and abstain from the dirty arena of politics , yet the church remained the most vocal critic of government.

''It is simply not enough to pray behind close doors and wait in sheer optimism for change or progress to be achieved so we say to our brothers and sisters in the Christian faith: vote and pray, vote and pray, vote and pray," he said.

Nmor therefore urged the church to go all out and get their Permanent Voters Card (PVC), turnout in masse and vote.

PoliticsShittu Explains Why He Wore Buhari’s Campaign Cap To FEC by Activeman391(op): 4:32pm On Jan 25, 2018
Minister of Communication, Adebayo Shittu, has explained why he wore a branded cap campaigning for President Muhammadu Buhari’s second term to the Federal Executive Council on Wednesday.

Shittu who recently announced himself as the chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Muhammadu Buhari/Yemi Osinbajo Dynamic Support Group to drive the re-election campaign of the president, wore a campaign cap with Buhari’s image, but was allegedly stopped by the SGF, Boss Mustapha from distributing it.

Speaking to State House correspondents after the council meeting, Shittu explained that the materials were not meant for the FEC deliberations.

He said: “The cap is for politics, it is not for Federal Executive Council, FEC deliberations and the caps have been distributed to all members of FEC.

“So, it is sample for any other person who is interested in doing what we have done.

“I know everybody will be involved, everybody will be guided, people will take decision to support General Buhari in the 2019 elections.”
