If she is financially capable to finance her trip, then you guys do not need to say you’re sponsoring so as to avoid providing too much documentation. As long as her bank account is in perfect condition, then she has no worries. If your dad is still alive, then he is a proof of ties to her that will ensure her return. She just has to include photos.

Should you guys insist on sponsoring you can do that and explain why. You can split the cost amongst you three, it wouldn’t be a bad idea..
Thank you so much Mrmoney90

Thank you giselle237. I won't state that in her application form, I'm only providing y'all with all the necessary information so as to get adequate guidance on how to go about it.

Main question: Who is financing this trip?
Thank you. She can finance her trip and we can do that as well but considering we both are students, I don't know if it'd be ok to state we'll be the ones to finance the trip.

This is the major area I really need guidance.

Hi guys, please I need guidance. Don't want to make mistakes or omit something important.

I want to apply for my mum to visit and spend at least 5 months with my sister and I. What are the documents I need to begin with?

Background: We're both students and my sister just recently gave birth. My mum is a retiree.

Honestly, you have to think about this carefully. A PhD is seen as a full time job, hence the reason why you guys do not get term time off, just annual leave. If it’s a fully funded scholarship, eg, they are paying for your research, publications, accomodation and giving you stipend, you may have to inform them as they are your official sponsor even though it’s a Tier 4 visa and switching would appear that your research is now part time. So speak to your supervisor and get his advise on it, ILR and Money shouldn’t be the reasons you give him/her though. Also, be very careful how you approach this as they may not only revoke your scholarship, they might ask for a refund (I’ve heard of this happening.). God is with you!
Thank you for this Amarathripple0.

My honest opinion will be aim to move to Global Talent Visa (Researcher route). Why? With a UKRI funding, if it were me, my focus will be on ensuring publishing in top 20 9r top 60 journal in the discipline (at worst at least a journal on Scopus). Once the PhD is completed or with about 6 mths to the end of the PhD 9r once submitted or submitting the thesis, you go all out for PGRA posts. Currently, with an offer, with publication and with a PhD (or PhD in view) , you should get Global Talent Visa (researcher route). It comes with tons of benefits!
NB: for the Global Talent Researcher route, you do not have to be in digital technology.

PS: I'll perhaps chip in that one is not compelled to spend the full 3 (or 4 yrs) for PhD. It's (technically) possible within the 2nd to 3rd gap!
In any case, opting to work (switch visa) and fast tracking your PhD boils down to personal choice.

With all above said, holding on to your UKRI funding might 'get a K leg'. However, it depends on the funding condition, which we're not privy to.

One of earlier posts.
Thanks semmyk for your advice. I don't intend on quitting the program (I have completed the first year, at most it's remaining 2.5 years) and I aim on hitting those targets as regards publications. The only thing is I don't want to be in academia, at least for now, I want to start out in the industry. I only want to fast track getting ILR/citizenship and then move to another country.

With fast tracking the PhD, even though it's possible, the funding condition was to spend the full years although when I spoke with my supervisor about it, he said he can contest it if highly needed. Spending the full study years is not a problem to me though, I just want to end the rat race of obtaining permanent residency ASAP and do something good with my life.

My only concern towards all these is I wouldn't want to lose the funding if I opt to switching to work visa and I just don't want to discuss it first with my supervisor as it might be too sensitive to him. I want to be certain of what I'm walking into and what's obtainable and then strike.

Hello house, please I've come with my questions again.

Please, if a person on UKRI funded PhD happens to get a sponsorship and wants to switch visa while still continuing with the PhD (won't interfere with normal school activities), do you think the school would have a problem with it or withdraw the funding? After careful consideration personally, I'd like to hear the opinions of y'all should I have missed to factor in something important. Please what are the pros and cons?

This one is a hard one because it just that you are JJC, if not the first point of contact would have been to check the switch board especially as gas company said everything was fine... when I was jjc I accidently turned my gas supply off without knowing it was me who turned it off when I put a box where it was .... similarly I was billed but that was slightly different as it was me who turned it off by accident

You can try to argue but maybe you find out what the call out charges were to see if it worth your time arguing. Hopefully if it not too much . If it not too much hopefully let them go ahead and report to landlord. Is landlord God??.... The Landlord might agree to cover it self.
Thank you. I actually tried to see if there were switches I could flick but there were lots of them and I was being careful not to end up amplifying the issue or even introducing a whole new problem altogether.

Let it slide please, its one of those things. I presume you must have used a faulty eletric kettle or some faulty appliances that triggers the power off from the circuit breaker/ switch board. Once you know what the trigger is next time just go to the board and switch it on (its second to the last switch in most cases). If you want to push this further you will end shootn your own foot. Take care
No, I didn't use any faulty appliance.

Yes, they sent one to me when I moved into the apartment.

Ignore them. The burden of proof is on them. They should prove where they directed you to flip the breakers. If they have a socket that's tripping under normal load, there's a bigger electrical problem and potential fire hazard in the accommodation.
Thank you for your input.

Hi guys, please look at this issue and let me know if I'm wrong or not.

My power supply tripped off very early in the morning of a certain day, unfortunately, it was only mine that went off. I called 105 and my energy supplier, after series of questions and information I gave them from both my gas and electric meters, they confirmed my meters were working fine and that I should contact my landlord for internal issues.

I called my letting agency as I got the apartment through them and complained to them about the power cut. They didn't get back to me and I called them later in the afternoon (meanwhile I had no power supply or even gas as the gas switch works with electricity) and they said oh they'd contact their emergency technician. Meanwhile, I received a voicenote from them when they couldn't reach me saying if it's not an emergency they wouldn't pay the bills.

Late into the afternoon I didn't hear back from them and decided to put a call across while telling them it's an emergency as it's almost dusk and I still have no gas and electricity. At the end of the day, the electrician came along, went to the electric meter and turned a number of switches on and off and the power was restored. Few minutes later, it tripped off again as a socket was about getting plugged which was what actually led to the first power cut but we didn't know it was what caused it. Because of this, the electrician checked some sockets in the apartment and found nothing wrong with them. However, he removed a partially faulty bulb and it's placeholder which I earlier complained about when I initially moved into the apartment and said that might be the cause of the tripping.

Now, the letting agency is telling me that I'm liable for the bills as it wasn't an emergency that I should have switched the circuit breaker/ switch board, that it's expected of me to do that. I told them I'm not liable as I had no idea where the fault was from and moreover I'm not an electrician. They're claiming now that they asked me over the phone if I have turned the switch board which they never did ask me. I told them I believe they record their calls and should go and listen again (they said they don't record calls and I recommended calling the telecommunication company for them to verify). I went ahead to tell them that even if they did I wouldn't know how to do it (the switch boards) as there are couple of switches to turn on and off which I wouldn't have known which is the right one. I also reminded them that the power tripped off again when a socket was about being plugged which indicates there must be an internal issue, in addition, that a lamp holder which I earlier complained about was completely removed by the electrician which he actually said might be what is triggering the power cut.

They're not happy with my stand and they're saying they'd report me to the landlord that I've breached the contract as my call wasn't an emergency call (was without electricity and gas for close to 12 hours) and that if I don't pay, the technical company might charge me to court and I told them to go ahead as I did everything within my ability to tend to this issue before coming to them and moreso, I am not the cause of the electrical fault.

Please, I just want to be sure that I'm right so I can stand well or just close eyes and pay the so called bills.

Your opinions please. Sorry for the long read

Good afternoon my people , Thank you for all you do in this forum.

Please I need your advice, counsel and suggestions on the current predicament of my wife in her study.

She has a Degree in Chemical engineering and came in to study analytical chemistry after looking at the course module but unfortunately what was on the course module was completely opposite of what was in the course content in reality and this posed a lot of challenges for her on the course.
You see for you to be in this UK and thrive, you have to grow thick skin. You don't have to cower. Your wife is eligible for the student visa extension to enable her write her exam and get her result. Don't assume things, let her write to her department and faculty that she'd be retaking the module and would be needing a visa extension. Hear what they'd say first and take it up from there. I mean you paid huge amount of money for tuition, don't allow them take you for a ride even though you failed a course, that's the purpose of learning anyways.

As an aside, you(not your wife) can start applying for a course as a plan B. Let this option not be your main focus though.

Don't know if this applies but my sis' application had this same issue of inability to pick a date. Was using a laptop but couldn't get suitable date for biometrics, infact they weren't clickable. I left it and then checked back around 1 am using my phone and I was able to get a date in first week of July. So you guys should try using your phones. This was last Friday though.

Just keep checking regularly. On Monday I saw appointment date for June (self not even assisted or those ones with charges) when I was trying to see if I can change her appointment date to be same with her dependants as their appointments are two days apart.

Please who has been able to get Form A processed through Stanbic IBTC? When did you apply and when were you debited?

It's far over 1 month Form A application has been running and they're doing entirely nothing about processing it. They're just concentrating on their so called I&E, seems they're making money with that.

Guys please any update for virtual candidates.
I have tried connecting to the meeting at the given time and waited for 2-4hrs but all to no avail.
I have been unable to travel to Ibadan due to work.
Please is there anyone that did his or her interview today via the virtual platform?
When was your stipulated date and time?

What you should do is join the meeting from 3pm or whatever time you were given and wait there till they connect to you. It'd definitely show them that someone is in the waiting room.

After my first interview, I received another invitation link and I just wanted to be sure they didn't forget asking anything from me so I joined the meeting again and waited for about 1hour after which they connected to the meeting and told me I shouldn't worry that I've already had my interview that they were receiving notifications that I was in the waiting room. So if you can wait, wait patiently. For my first interview meeting, they joined about 30 minutes after the stipulated time.

Getting this scholarship borders on grace/luck. The competition is very stiff. In my state for UK PhD there are 50 candidates and 23 candidates for GFM PhD. And from past lists, there would be 2-3 successful scholars from each group.

Everyone should just go and start praying. Lol smiley

For me I think it's only the interview performance that's being considered at this stage especially for PhDs because how do you reconcile all these gradings with those that weren't even asked for their certificates, membership or even publication?

Let's all just sit back till successful ones are shortlisted then we can analyse and determine what truly counts.

My concern is I received invite for 2nd June but no link and Portal says 10th June. I just got a link now but no date attached. Should I wait till the 10th of June on the portal? Since it came after the date of the email and no date on the link sent.
No, you don't have to wait till 10th June as it's very risky since that day I believe is the last day of the interview. Start using the link today from 5pm and see if you'd be attended to since it came with no date.

Hope if I don't attend they won't mark it as being absent from the interview?

I know no one prays for such, but please elders, I've been wondering if one applies for PSW and along the way gets Tier 2 sponsorship and somehow manages to lose sponsorship or not being able to renew, can such a person switch back to PSW visa having not exhausted the years stipulated?
