New Year: Osun First Lady, Kafayat Oyetola celebrates Baby of the Year ... Urges mothers on exclusive breastfeeding The wife of the Osun state Governor, Mrs Kafayat Oyetola, on Wednesday celebrated and presented gifts to the parents of the first baby of the year 2020 in the state. The baby boy who weighed 3.4kg was born at exactly 1:00am on Wednesday She advocated exclusive breastfeeding as panacea to every baby's healthy living. Mrs. Oyetola made the statement on Wednesday during her special visit to the State General Hospital, Asubiaro, Osogbo, to welcome and celebrate the baby of the year 2020. The Osun First Lady urged parents particularly nursing mothers to embrace the six months exclusive breastfeeding for their babies. Mrs Oyetola, who described exclusive breastfeeding as 'an antidote to childhood diseases', said the practice would also go a long way to prevent infant and maternal mortality. She urged parents and guardians to invest more time in training their children and ensure that they imbibe the culture of good personal hygiene and sanitation. According to her, cleanliness next to godliness, hence the need for the citizens particularly women to key into the sanitation policy of the government designed to promote healthy living. She added that, apart from good sanitation practice, it has become mandatory for every citizen to stop the bad habit of open defecation. Celebrating with the baby, Mrs. Oyetola called on the parents to take good care of him by giving him quality education and trainings.

Minimum wage: Oyetola inaugurates committee on implementation .Reiterates commitment to workers' welfare Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, on Tuesday, inaugurated a committee to work out the modalities for the implementation of minimum wage for all workers in the state. He also assured that nothing would make him to discontinue payment of full workers' salaries as and when due, adding that the workers' welfare is very important to his administration. Oyetola spoke at his office while inaugurating the committee, urging them to ensure that they arrived at a reasonable amount of increment that would not be capable of stopping the government from paying salaries as and when due. The governor, who said the administration would work through the committee to arrive at a soft landing that would be pleasing to both workers and government, commended the labour leaders and the entire workforce for their cooperation and sense of understanding in the last one year. He said, "I thank the leadership of labour for their level of cooperation in the last one year. You made my transition from Chief of Staff to Governor very simple. The welfare of workers is very important to me. That's why we pay their salaries promptly and in full. "We're committed to paying the new minimum wage. But we need to now double up our IGR. It is very important to collectively drive the IGR because it is the only source for payment of the minimum wage. "Thank God we've spent one year without rancour, no strike. We'll work together to have a safe landing that will be acceptable to the two parties. I'm delighted to see this committee being inaugurated." Earlier in his address, the Head of Service, Dr. Festus Olowogboyega Oyebade, commended the governor for putting an end to the suffering of the civil servants in The State of Osun. “In line with the common tradition of labour, it's important that whenever there is a new minimum wage it is important that it is renegotiated. That is why a committee to work out implementation of the minimum wage is being inaugurated today," Oyebade added. He congratulated the governor for a hitch-free 2019, adding that the good people of Osun would have a reason to smile in the new year 2020. In his reaction, the Chairman, Joint Negotiation Council (JNC), Comrade Bayo Adejumo, assured that the labour leaders would cooperate with the government to avoid a "war-war type" of negotiation. He lauded Oyetola for being always supportive of workers in all negotiations from his days as Chief of Staff till now as governor, adding that the current administration had implemented most of the past agreements reached by the government with labour. "Our amiable Governor is not new to labour and he is not new to negotiation. He has been handling labour matters in the last nine years, particularly in the area of negotiation. We enjoyed a good support and disposition from him. This accounts for the kind of rapport we have with him. It also accounts for the support we gave to his candidature. "Today we are happy that we have no regret supporting his emergence. Most of the agreements we entered during the time are being implemented now by his administration. "While commending you for prompt payment of salaries in full, we assure you that this negotiation will not be a war war type. We will apply scientific negotiation in a very conducive manner. We have absolute confidence in your leadership," Adejumo said. Included in the committee which would be chaired by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Dr. Charles Akinola, are the Head of Service, Dr. Festus Oyebade; Hon. Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Bola Oyebamiji; Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Prof. Olalekan Yinusa; Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Oluwafemi Akande; Commissioner for Human Resources and Capacity Building, Mrs. Giwa Lateefah Abiodun ; Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Mrs. Bimpe Ogunlumade; and the State Accountant General, Mr. Sunday Igbaroola. The labour leaders in the committee are the Chairman, Joint Negotiation Council (JNC), Comrade Bayo Adejumo; Secretary JNC, Comrade Richard Oyegbemi; Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Sunday Adekomi; Secretary, NLC, Comrade Rufus Adeyemi; Chairman, Trade Union Congress (TUC) Comrade Adebowale Adekola; Secretary (TUC), Comrade Akin Olatunbosun; Chairman ASCSN, Comrade Dauda Adeyemi; his Secretary Comrade Jide Akinlami. Oyetola signs 2020 budget into law, promises full implementation .As Osun Speaker commends him for making history Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of The State of Osun has signed the year 2020 budget into law, just as he promised its full implementation. He signed the budget in his office on Monday shortly after it was formally presented to him by the Speaker, Osun House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Timothy Owoeye. This is even as the Speaker, Osun House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Timothy Owoeye, noted that it was the first time in the history of Osun that the budget for the next year will be completed and signed into law before the beginning of that year. Oyetola, who described the size of the budget as most realistic, said the government would stop at nothing to ensure it full implementation. He said the government decided to prune down the size of the budget compared to the 2019 budget, having realised the socioeconomic realities and limited resources available to the state. The governor who promised to continue to do things that would make life more meaningful, worthwhile and abundant for the people of the state, assured the residents of better days in the year 2020 and beyond. He said the state would do everything possible to bring about the desired development across all the sectors as captured by the budget. While commending the leadership and members of the State House of Assembly for a job well done, Oyetola promised to maintain the level of understanding and cooperation existing between the three arms of government in general and the legislature in particular. He added: "I am particularly delighted we were able to conclude the presentation, passing and signing of the year 2020 budget before the end of the year 2019. "I must commend the leadership of the House of Assembly -- the Speaker and other principal officers -- for ensuring smooth passage of the budget and for ensuring they look at the budget critically which is ready for signing today. " That is to show that we are ready to move the state forward come Year 2020. We do believe in budget size that will enable us carry out proper implementation. That is the essence of what we are doing today. "The 2019 budget which is coming to an end two days from now, was about N154billion, but we realised that we didn't have too much of the revenue that we budgeted. So, we decided to trim down this year's budget size to a size that we believe is realistic. And with it, we will be able to do a lot for our people within the limit of our resources. "The budget size for the Year 2020 is N119.50 billion and we believe that, with that budget, a lot of things that we plan to do for 2020, we will be able to achieve them. "We commend the members of the House of Assembly for their cooperation and support. I must also commend you for your spirit of oneness. There is no doubt that we have enjoyed a very robust cooperation from you and we promise to continue to do that. We thank you for seeing us as partners in progress. "The way we went about the budget actually confirms that the leadership of the House is with us, particularly for the timely passage of the budget, unlike some states where there will be issues relating to budget size. We had gone through it together even before it was prepared, presented and signed. "I thank the people of the state for believing in our government. The commendations we have received so far have been quite encouraging and I look forward for the same cooperation in the subsequent years, particularly in Year 2020". Earlier in his presentation, the Speaker Osun House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Timothy Owoeye, who described the signing of year 2020 Osun Appropriation Bill as unique, noted that this is the first time in the history of Osun that the budget for the next year will be completed before the beginning of that year. He described it as a show of commitment of Governor Oyetola to Fiscal Transparency, Accountability and Sustainability. Those in attendance are: Deputy Governor, Mr Benedict Alabi; Speaker, Osun House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Timothy Owoeye; Secretary to the State Government, Prince Wole Oyebamiji; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Dr. Charles Akinola; Deputy Chief of Staff (General Administration) Mikhail Adejare Adebisi; Head of Service, Dr. Olowogboyega Oyebade; members of the House of Assembly, members of the State Executive Council, Permanent Secretaries and other top political and government functionaries. |
