Aigbofa: Unsubstantiated by quacks like you?
It is unsubstantiated because they are the ones making the claim. There is no independent/external corroboration. Self praise is no recommendation, dude. The fact that both states have nothing to show for the claims speaks volumes about the claim.

Other states that have put their education into some practical application are Ogun and Delta. Overall, the entire country has not put its education into any useful use.
This appears to be restricted mainly to Igbos and Urhobos (Delta) and Ijebus and Egbas (Ogun)

Nigerians just love competing over noting.

I better pas you my foot.
Awolowo was educated and was a bigot
James Watson, the co-founder of the DNA was educated and was a bigot
Many Republicans are educated but are bigots
There is no correlation between education and bigotry.

PoliticsImo State Is the Most Educated State In Nigeria......... But by Adejoro74(op):
No doubt, Imo State is the most educated State in Nigeria......... But

This is a topic that has been discussed extensively in Nairaland (NL) and other Nigerian internet forums
Some of the arguments on NL dates back to several years. Here are a few examples

https://www.nairaland.com/237534/look-who-going-school-nigeria/11
https://www.nairaland.com/36515/who-most-educated-nigerians

And the current one:

https://www.nairaland.com/925938/which-state-most-educated-nigeria

Now that we have laid it to rest. Let's move on to the next level of discussion:

Who graduates most amongst the Nigerian states/zones?
Who advances further (MS, Ph.D) most?
The Nigerian professors at the universities you study (or studied) in, where do they come from?

Any data for those?

I have some anecdotal evidences (both in and out of Nigeria) to support some claims I will be making, but I'd prefer we get real data. So please do not argue if you have no data to support your point. The rate of graduation in Nigeria has been a muted thing because both NUC and NYSC have failed in their duty to compel higher institutions to publish names, states of origin and states of residence of all graduands before they can partake in the NYSC program.

Now moving back to Imo state, I will like to ask:

What has been the concrete outcome of the high number of university admissions credited to that state? I believe most of these people graduate. What have they contributed to the lot of the state? The same cannot exactly be said for Anambra and Abia both of which have some level of evidence of the dividend of education by way of practical things done by the graduates. These two states boast of the most entrepreneurial people in Nigeria. Abia, from the data presented by Chuba1 (http://www.nigerianstat.gov.ng/ext/latest_release/ssd09.pdf), will rank somewhere among the first 10 most educated in the country. Many of the graduates from Abia and Anambra are self employed, putting their education into some entrepreneurial endeavour. In contrast, I know of many graduates from Imo who left school since eon and still have not found their dream job; one of them who graduated in 1999 only got an underemployed position last year.

There is a common saying that Imo State is a civil service state. Is that where all the education ends up? Or is it that they study mainly non-STEM courses that usually end you in non-entrepreneurial endeavours? This is the same for Ondo and Ekiti both of which like to boast (unsubstantiated boasts though) of having many professors, with nothing to show for it. I was once told that they study mainly religion and Yoruba language grin grin grin grin

Other states that have put their education into some practical application are Ogun and Delta. Overall, the entire country has not put its education into any useful use.

Take home message: education is not an end; it is a means to achieving an end.

PoliticsRe: Which State Is The Most Educated In Nigeria by Adejoro74: 3:45pm On Apr 30, 2012
Now the argument has been settled:
Imo and Anambra lead in both application and admission.

South East leads per region on the above criteria which supports the fact that the SE is the most literate region in Nigeria

What is next?
Who graduates most?
Who advances further (MS, Ph.D) most?
Any data for these? Please do not argue if you have no data to support your point.

The data provided by Chuba1 indicates that there are a only few Lagosions (indigenes) around; despite having the highest population in Nigeria, it comes at the bottom when state of origin is considered. Every body don answer their papa names. shocked shocked shocked shocked

Dude, quit ranting like a rain-drenched pigeon. As of today, the North is fighting for its political life and the South (specifically the Ijaw, a so-called minority) holds the ace. That is not savvy, to my mind. Please go to bed, you are too ignorant about these things.

shymmex: That was because of the PACT between NCNC and NPN - we all know the northerners ran things in the first republics.
And a pact that gave you so much was not about your savviness, right?
PoliticsRe: Which State Is The Most Educated In Nigeria by Adejoro74: 5:26am On Apr 30, 2012
shymmex: Military, yes... That was because the colonialists trusted the Igbos than any other southern tribe - because of their acceptance of catholicism.. Yorubas and Benins never respected the British - maybe you need to read what Awolowo said about them..

As for political positions - you're living in fool's paradise.. Igbos only controlled their part of the country... And Zik was a CEREMONIAL president - and he became the president because of the pact between the North and SE...

Zik was dumped by Ahmadu Bello - hence, the rise of Akintola, and most of the Igbo appointments in the federal government were given to Yorubas. That was why most people suspected the Jan. 1966 was an Igbo coup - because they were becoming irrelevant in Nigerian politics..

Read more about Nigeria, bruv..
You are one half-baked dude

At the time you speak about Igbos were all this:

1. President (Zik)
2. Senate President Nwafor Orizu
3.Speaker of the House (Jaja Nwachukwu)
4. First UN under sec Gen of African origin (Jaja)
5. First Perm Sec to the UN (Jaja)
6 Min of Aviation (Nwachukwu)
7 Minister of Commerce/political adviser to the PM (Mbadiwe)

And you claim they were relevant?

Balewa's Ministers
OFFICE NAME TERM
Prime Minister Abubakar Tafawa Balewa 1957–1966
Foreign Affairs Jaja Wachuku 1961–1965
Transportation Raymond Njoku 1957–1960
Education Aja Nwachukwu 1957–1960
Commerce K. O. Mbadiwe 1957–1960
Communications Samuel Ladoke Akintola 1957–1960
Finance Festus Okotie-Eboh 1957–1960
Internal Affairs J. M. Johnson 1957–1960
Information Kola Balogun 1957–1960
Health Ayo Rosiji 1957–1960
Labor ....... .......
Mines Muhammadu Ribadu 1957–1960

How many Igbos are there compared to others? Can you mention and substantiate one position taken from an Igbo and given to another group, before the warhuhhuh But for the war, Igbos were poised to take over Nigeria. By all account, Yorubas were the ones sidelined until Obasanjo came in. Now they are in limbo again.
PoliticsRe: Which State Is The Most Educated In Nigeria by Adejoro74: 4:43am On Apr 30, 2012
shymmex: I disagree with the bolded part.. Igbos have never been politically savvy in the Nigerian context.. You guys had only one average political gamer, and that was ZIk - and we all know how Ahmadu Bello turned him into his boy - in the first republic... Even Zik was used and dumped by Ahmadu Bello - hence, the rise of Akintola... After Zik, Igbos have been docile.. You guys need to go back to the drawing board, and start afresh...

The 'Igbo domination myth' was about expansionism, and not political savviness... I don't think ndigbos have ever played their cards right in the Nigerian context.. And there's no shake up in the Nigerian polity - it's still the same... SW has shifted back to regionalism like it was in the first republic - the North is back where it was in the first republic, with Buhari's party leading the way - and the SE is still divided as ever..

Don't let the emergence of GEJ fool you, he was put there by OBJ - and he won't last beyond 2015...
Igbos were/are not savvy yet they held most of the military and political positions before the war. You are deluded.

Jonathan put himself there in the very last election. He out-manipulated the North and the rest of Nigeria.

PoliticsRe: Fear Ngwa People In Abia State. by Adejoro74: 4:11am On Apr 30, 2012
Ngwakwe: This foo.lish Opinion piece is all about what?

Do Ngwa people beg for a living? No

One time Central Bank Governor Paul Ogwuma is an Ngwa man

The Indisputable fearless Nigerian that declared MKO winner in 1993 is be Ngwa man, Humphery Nwosu. To mention but a few.

I know that Ngwa people are hospitable. In terms of Land issues, yes Lands were sold based on written agreements signed by both parties and their respective witnesses. However, most people that bought land took adventage of prevalent illiteracy of some Ngwa people in the past to defraud most land sellers by measuring more than is written in agreement, eg. C of O says 3 plots were actual is 10 plots.
Now that Ngwa people have gone to school and their Children have started scrutinizing these documents and these fraudulent practices are being exposed and Justice are being obtained in the court. Is there any evil in that?

Am not here to defend any tribe but one thing I know is that Ngwa people were under dogs in the past but now the average 30Years old Ngwa youth is a graduate compared to any other section of the State. Hence the quarrel "Give me my right" No you don't have it before, why now. Because my eyes are open.

Politically they want to participate in the game of politics, why not? No section of the society should claim born to rule.
You are right, the Ngwas are not different from any other Igbo group. BTW, Humphrey Nwosu is not Ngwa. He is from Anambra.

So how Savvy is the North when OBJ and now ''small'' Jonathan schemed them out to the extent that they are having to resort to bombing, rather than savviness, brilliance and intelligence to try to reclaim power? I laugh in mongolia

Everybody except you think otherwise. Even the U.S govt have voiced on the level of poverty in the North in relation to BH. Northern leaders have also acknowledged it. Stop arguing for the sake of it.

Yeah, they school in the UK and US - but they still go through their normal Islamic educational system... I live in the UK, and all the Northerners I know - did short courses in one Islamic school, or the other in Sudan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia etc.. Even pant bomber attended an Islamic school, before moving to the UK.
They (their elites) may be holding more oil blocks for themselves, but what is the fate of the entire/average northern population compared to their southern counterparts? BTW, oil is a fleeting resource but the education that they have deprived their people will forever stare them in the face.

Almost all Northern elites send their wards to Islamic schools - even your CBN governor is a product of an Islamic school... That's their way of life - you can't change that...
You judge intelligence or brilliance or savviness by the outcome of it. What is the outcome in this case?

BTW, the highlighted stuff is a big lie. Those guys have their kids in schools abroad. I have one of them here with me. The failed suicide pant bomber schooled in the UK.
PoliticsRe: Which State Is The Most Educated In Nigeria by Adejoro74: 3:33am On Apr 30, 2012
shymmex: But you can't argue that they haven't been in control since independence... Obasanjo was the one who rocked their boat, and that's why he's the most hated guy in the North.... We all need to keep our fingers crossed, and see what happens in 2015.. Northerners don't make too much noise, they strategize, and I know they will shock everyone come 2015...

You saw how Yar Adua was able to placate MEND - with the so-called "amnesty", huh?? Northerners are savvy when it comes to the Nigerian chess game... They know how to manipulate the Southerners - to their own advantage.. They know Southerners are lousy folks, and we're also divided - and they will play their game through that division..

The only people that can match them in political savviness in the South are Yorubas (I'm not saying this because I'm Yorubas, but it's the truth) - and they would use Igbos as bait - come 2015...

Northern president and Igbo vice president = joker for 2015. lipsrsealed grin
It is not how long (far), but how well. Thus far, their intelligence has led them to nowhere as they lad behind the south in every imaginable indices.

all4naija: Why do you always state the obvious? Do you even read your comments before posting some of them?

On one hand, you state that the population of SE is lower when compares to the other regions. On the other hand, Ibo are the most likely to move from one part to the other within the country. Largely those migrating are in the class of the traders and not having the basic education. All I am saying is that the Ibo people or rather population is absolutely more than you ascertained due to this migration pattern/ approach.

You are really assertive with this one though.
Can you comprehend? Not every data emanating from the SE does not include SEners not resident in the SE. For example, JAMB data is based on state of origin regardless of where you reside. And no, those who migrate include students, traders, and graduates looking for white collar jobs which I agree is more abundant in Lagos (former capital of Nigeria) and other non Igbo areas such as Port Harcourt and Abuja. Many of the students and academicians in schools outside the SE are Igbos. Yes, the overall population of Igbos is not trivial but that of the SE is, compared to other areas. Again, you are deluded in believing that all traders lack basic education, even after I and others have explained this to you.

71 Year Old Professor Jumped Over Fence To Escape Bayero University Attack

The attacked hall

Seventy-one-year-old Professor Emmanuel Olofin, a professor of Geography at the Bayero University, Kano, was at the hall where Catholics had gathered to worship. He shares his story with Martin Ayankola.

“It was like this. We use the Indoor Sports Hall of the university for our services. Usually, we start mass at 8am but today (Sunday) we started a bit late because we were making some arrangements.

“We started at about 10 minutes after 8am. At about 8.15am we started hearing sounds of gunshots and pellets falling on the roof of the building.

“Then, the Reverend Father asked, ‘What is happening?’ After that, there was pandemonium, we all rushed out and people were trying to cross over to Kabuga, a nearby settlement. It was mostly gunshots but I think they were also throwing grenades.

“Some people jumped over the eight-foot fence, while some decided to take the pedestrian exit that leads to Kabuga. I believe that most of the people that died were those who took the pedestrian exit because it seemed as if the attackers used the pedestrian gate to gain entrance.

“I jumped over the fence and eventually took refuge under a tree. I was in my place of refuge, when I heard a siren wailing at about 10 am. I think that was when the Police came.

“Right now, I have been able to confirm about six of our people dead. I know of Profs Jerome Ayodele and Leo Ogbonyomi, who died. I also know of a senior non-academic employee of the university,Mr. Sylvester Adah, who died.

“How a 71-year-old man could have jumped over a fence? It was the grace of God!”

‘I was preaching when the attackers arrived’

Professor Julius Falola, a professor of Geography, was at the centre where Protestant worshippers were attacked. He spoke to Martin Ayankola.

“We, those of us who belong to a protestant group, Chapel of Victory, were holding our own service at an open ground, under the tree, close to the Faculty of Medicine.

“We started the service at about 7.30am. At about 8.15am, when I had just started preaching the day’s sermon, I sighted a group of men advancing towards where we were.

“Initially, they did not look suspicious, but suddenly, a shot was fired directly at the congregation and subsequently several shots followed.

“The attack was simultaneous, as they were attacking us, they were attacking the Catholic group worshipping in the Indoor Sports Hall. I could not say the number of the attackers. One could not wait, everybody ran.

“Some jumped over the fence while others ran deeper into the campus. I also escaped to the university clinic.

“The shooting went on for about 45 minutes. At about the 46th minute, I heard the wailing of the siren, I think the soldiers and police arrived about that time.”

“The attackers were firing gunshots and throwing hand grenades. Some of our members sustained injuries and right now, we could not ascertain the number of casualties.”

To state the obvious you have not explained to me on the demographic mobility of the Ibo people concerning your population censors claim.
Census in Nigeria is based on state of residence not ethnicity. Thus Igbos outside the SE are not counted as SEners. Yet the literacy data is based on region (SE, SW, SS, etc), whereby the SE comes out tops. Again commonsense reasoning.
