Sam_Ikenna: On the bolded, I guess we send our girls to school and have our boys take turns in digging holes lol! I'm of the impression that for some personal reasons you think low of Igbo males. Let me put it this way - I'm from Imo state and to the best of my knowledge it'll be almost impossible to find an Imolite between the age of 12 and 30-40 who cant write simple english. Mind you, I said "write," I didnt say "degree." I dont know how many of our boys have degrees but if I recall vividly, our boys always did better than girls in secondary school and about 60-70% went to uni afterwards ( I went to a village secondary school for your info). Of the number that went to uni, a huge chunk majored in sciences and engineering. That, my friend, is the crux of the matter. Thank you. |
shymmex: The same can be said of some Yorubas - and I know Igbos give birth to loads of children as well...Igbo population may actually be dwindling because people marry only one wives these days and most modern Igbos I know give birth to no more than 3-4 kids (mostly three). At some point, a Senator from Ebonyi said Igbos should begin to populate again. That article was posted here on Nairaland https://www.nairaland.com/333388/imagine-this-senator-laments-low |
all4naija: You are taking the word clueless out of context. If that's what calling you name stands for then you failed at an attempt to exonerate yourself of your failure to convince me of your assertions.I do not need to convince you of anything as you are inconsequential to anything that goes on in the SE. If you feel you need more convincing, you will be better served going down there to assess things yourself. You will be too simplistic and ignorant to expect me to satisfy you from cyberspace. BTW, other Igbo males here have also debunked your claims. |
all4naija: That is laughable though. If we are to go by population censors then, it is quite clear the Ibo are the most mobile by demography. Calling me a name is not an excuse just that you failed to convince me of your assertions with no binding evidences. Sorry, you are completely wrong about the rate of male literacy of the SE.The onus is on you to prove me wrong. And, need I remind you that you called me names first, you i.d.i.o.t. You are becoming more assertive, clueless than expected. Take a closer look at your points of argument, dude! |
shymmex: My bad, typo. And you know that how? With muslims giving birth to tons of children, I would not think so. |
shymmex: I've never lived in the North - but all the Northerners I've met are from core Northern states like: Bauchi, Kano, Sokoto etc..We are talking of hip hop guys, remember? Yeah! They have ruled the country since eon and we have seen where the country is today. We have seen how healthy, educated, financially empowered the average northerner is today. That is how you measure savviness, intelligence and brilliance. Give me a break. |
all4naija: You are becoming more assertive, clueless than expected. Take a closer look at your points of argument, dude! You are daft, if you did not see this in the same statement you quoted. Still, I cannot claim more SE males go to school than females on that basis alone. What am I doing conversing with an ignorant oaf? |
shymmex: What are you on about?? If they so backward and uncivilized like you guys always want people to believe - how come they have ruled Nigeria - either directly, or indirectly since independenceThe census did not say so. It says otherwise. And the word is not bare, it is bear. ![]() |
shymmex: I'm not arguing where they live now - but where they grew up, and what influenced what they do.. Everyone is a product of their environment, and your childhood plays an important role in the type of person you become... If they were not "exposed" in the North, as you guys always want everyone to believe - how come they were able to know about hiphop, and that lifestyle? It depends where in the North they lived. I wager that they lived in places like Jos, etc which is different than the typical Islamic North. I agree that people tend to lump all Northerners together, but the minority Northerners too have not helped matters per extricating themselves from the grip of the loathed ones, if any. |
all4naija: Sure, it doesn't! I have my evidences more or less reasons and I am entitled to them.Commonsense tells you that the fact that the last census puts the SE as the least populated, yet they have the highest literacy rate means that it cannot come from a small fraction of the already small population. In all of my sojourn abroad, I have met by far more Igbo males studying than I have met Igbo females. Still, I cannot claim more SE males go to school than females on that basis alone. I did not notice any population difference in Nigeria because there was simply none between the SE male and female students. |
shymmex: I don't know why you guys underestimate Northerners - these people are arguably the most intelligent people in Nigeria.... They don't talk too much, they listen to all your noise - and strategize... I met a couple of them in uni - and I can tell you, these guys are brilliant...How many of those became what they are today as residents of the North? |
all4naija: Thank you for that. That's not the information we have been fed. Even an Ibo person would confirm this to you that their male don't usually go to school but trade under their elder brothers or uncles. This is the first time I am seeing them to be dropouts or graduates. I still doubt your assertion though.Feel free to doubt even yourself. That does not detract from the fact. |
jason123: Did you not read "from my little experience"? How is my experience the definite answer to all questions? As for your insults, back to sender! You have always been foolish. That I know. |
all4naija: You misunderstood me. I was talking about the rate. Are you telling me those traders are literates? The young ones among them can read, write and compute? There are traders and there are traders. The graduates and high schoolers amongst them will do those things you mentioned. |
all4naija: That's what I am saying that Nigeria is highly illiterate looking at the UNESCO definition of literacy which seems the right one to take. All thanks to northerners and now SWners who unfortunately seem to prefer to be motor park touts and agberos than go to school. |
all4naija: You are insinuating something non-asserted by me. I never said only the female Ibo tribe go to school. I said there are more educated female among the Ibo. So, that could possibly cover up for the high literacy level even at the low rate of the male. 91% for Anambra can easily gives an edge to the total literacy rate of that state. There is no lack of educated males in the SE. Everyone goes to school equally. Take a walk in any of the schools there and come back with your findings. |
all4naija: ACCORDING TO WIKIPEDIA ON UNESCO DEFINITION OF LITRACYThe same UNESCO and other global bodies rate Nigeria as a highly illiterate country. So ask yourself how they arrived at that. |
all4naija: This is not my perception per se but general one. There are evidences the male pursue trade than school. So, what's you take on that relating it to literacy rate?A good number of those you see in Alaba, etc are either graduates (who took to trading due to lack of jobs) or high-school dropouts, who based on the definition of literacy, you can never classify as illiterates. Many are also non-school attendants just alike you have touts and agberos in SW and almajiris in the North. |
all4naija: Yes!Possibly the statistic is actually on the female not male. Can you give link to statistic of the SE male literacy rate? The stats is from the entire population, both male and female. Commonsense tells you that if only Igbo girls go to school, then the overall literacy rate in Igboland will not be higher than the SW. The days of ignorance is over; use your head. |
all4naija: I don't know about that. Again, I am going by what most Nigerians and Ibo people in general used to say coupled with the trade. But, is JAMB the right determinant of literacy?JAMB is not the measure of literacy, but you have to be able to read, write and understand before aspiring to that level. Moreover, we all used to think Igbos don't go to school that much until our eyes come open. Perecption is not reality, bro. |
all4naija: The truth is that SE literacy is high among female but among the male counterpart, it is very low. Most Ibo boys would like to be traders than go to school nor have the basic skills to read and write - leaving out arithmetical mental calculation. If only SE females go to school, how come the overall SE literacy rate is very high, higher than those in SW and North with supposedly higher population? |
all4naija: The truth is that SE literacy is high among female but among the male counterpart, it is very low. Most Ibo boys would like to be traders than go to school nor have the basic skills to read and write - leaving out arithmetical mental calculation. You have failed again as this topic has been over-flogged. Go back to the JAMB records. Igbo males are slightly higher than females in seeking JAMB admission, which you do not seek if you cannot read and write. You can start educating yourself from here, at least https://www.nairaland.com/237534/look-who-going-school-nigeria |
alj harem: Jmaine sorry that I did not respond to your comment. I knew this thread was going to be hijacked. You be proper Ode. Best in what? |
jason123: Ogbeni, you wan see diamond bank? Why not show us the Board composition of Intercontinental or Sky or Guarantee Trust Bank. Oloshi Buruku. |
all4naija: You pointed out vary contexts on the ground that you didn't read the content as whole which that particular Vary contexts is a part of.Vary contexts in the sense that the printed and written materials are in variety of disciplines - like maybe biology, chemistry, etc. How do you teach Chem and Bio in Nigeria? If you do not understand the language with which those subjects are taught in Nigeria, how do you understand the subjects? |
all4naija: It means, it is flawed in 21 century if they are using that for youth literacy!Do you know how the government arrived at their statistic, anyway? And what is the context for Nigeria as a country? |
all4naija: It means, it is flawed in 21 century if they are using that for youth literacy!Do you know how the government arrived at their statistic, anyway?Let's assume you are Yoruba. If you, as a Yoruba, visit Igboland, how do you communicate with them? If you speak English and they reply in conc Igbo, would you not call them illiterates - on the sheer basis of their inability to communicate with you with the expected language? What statistics are you talking about? |
arole_odua1: Who taught omo ibos their own language, okoro? mschewwwwwwwwwwwwIgbos were not speaking their language at their creation. They were speaking Yoruba which you indolent anumanus copied. |
all4naija: So, being literate in language is what literacy is all about in Nigeria? This is appalling. Academic litracy has to do with basic knowledge in any language,be able to read and write it and ability to operate computer. Those statistics are totally flawed!Every group is literate in their own language. The universal measure of literacy is in a common denominator holding a given set of people. In this case, Nigeria (a set of people) being an avowed English-speaking country, implies that English is the yardstick to measure literacy. All studies (except for almajiri ones)in Nigeria are conducted in English, remember? |
arole_odua1: Okoro ajeokuta mamumi abeg go meet oju-iku for him grave and change your name, oloshi.Yoruba ofe mmanu go and commit suicide like Awolowo or fall from the sky like your stupid Oduduwa. |
PROUD-IGBO:Stop making this about Okorocha. Every fool in Naija knows elections are rigged by all parties involved. The best rigger carries the day. |
