Energy48:In Europe yes, but in the USA, it is not a matter of sex. It is the availability of evidence such as wounds, blood on the face, body etc. Unfortunately the woman was smarter than the man in concocting up physical evidence. I believe this story more than anything the woman will ever tell. Some of them are devil incarnates. |

While I was talking to him, he punched me in the face. I was just there, crying by myself. He drove off and later turned back. When I saw his car lights, I looked up wondering why he was coming back. So, I just drove out of the estate into the street, running for my life and he followed me. I was heading to the hospital because my ear drums were hurting. I didn’t even know what was happening to my system. |

Wife battering among the Yoruba-speaking people of Southwestern Nigeria Author(s): Chris O Ajila 1 Abstract This study examined beliefs related to wife battering by the Yoruba speaking people of south western Nigeria. Cultural beliefs about the role of the wife beater were reviewed and contemporary views on the topic explored. The subjects of the study were 130 married adults, 73 males and 53 females, selected from Ile-Ife, a town in the south western part of Nigeria. A purposive sampling technique was used in the selection of subjects, and questionnaires were used to collect relevant data. A majority of respondents did not support wife beating, but a significant minority reported more traditional views. There was no significant relationship between views about wife battering and age (adults versus elders), religion (Christian versus other), or income level (high versus low). However, there was less support for wife beating among literate compared to illiterate respondents. It is possible that this finding could be attributed to reporting bias, better-educated people being more likely to be influenced by social desirability factors. Interventions to reduce the incidence of wife beating are also discussed. Author(s) affiliations 1. Senior Lecturer, Department of Psychology, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria |
A Nollywood actor, Fredrick Akpowene Aseroma, was on Friday, March 26, 2010, arrested and detained at the Ojodu-Abiodun Police Division, Ogun State Command, over allegations of beating his wife, Blessing Aseroma, who he has been married to for 10 years. Pastor Gbenga Oso, wife beater pastor
|
FAKE BABY FACTORY CHURCH THE MANY LIES OF PASTOR GBENGA OSO OF LAUGHTER FOUNDATION ….How He’s Paying Money For Miracle Babies Unknown to many, Pastor Gbenga Osho, the presiding pastor of the Laughter Foundation Church International is not what he claimed he is if feelers reaching us are anything to go by. It was gathered that the pastor left the Gospel Faith Mission International (GOFAMINT) years back in controversial circumstances to form his own baby factory church. Recently, some people squealed to nigeriafilms.com that the pastor popularly known as “Baba one Million Babies” is deceiving people into believing the television commercials where he always displays nursing mothers as those who are blessed with the fruit of the wombs in his church. Those who are in the know however claim that the miracles are nothing but fictitious and a case of the more you look the less you see; an avenue to exploit women who are in dire need to have children of their own. The story is that those who give testimonies that they have received answer to their search for the fruit of the womb are nothing but blatant liars; as it is alleged that they are paid N10,000 by the ambitious pastor before they can come out to parade themselves and dance in front of television cameras to lure unsuspecting women to the church. Aside this, another scheme of the General Overseer of the Laughter Foundation, according to insiders, is to always persuade those close to them to come and do thanksgiving and dedication of their new babies in his church. But unknown to them, he just wants to use them for his own selfish motive; the babies always end up on television screens as miracle babies that God produced in his church. Another sore point in his ministry is the way and manner those who served as his assistant pastors and aides are always shown the way out of the ministry having contributed their quotas to the development of the church. This, we gathered, is a frequent occurrence to those who are familiar with the church. It was alleged that the pastor always sacks those who started the church with him to cover his tracks very well so as to prevent them from knowing too much of his secrets. Some of the pastors that are said to have been sacked by the GO because they had known too much are Pastors Olo Taiwo, Peter and Foluso, who are pastors that followed him from GOFAMINT among others. Apart from his lies, if the pastor turns to a boxer, he will be a match for any of the Klitchko brothers if he encounters them in the boxing ring. Recently he was said to have battered his wife Esther and turned her into punching bags. The ugly incident occurred on 28th of April, days after the Easter celebration, which he mistook for Boxing Day Those who witnessed the one-sided fight claimed the Pastor, who lives in highbrow Magodo Estate, put his supposed call-to-serve aside to show his wife that Nigerian boxer Samuel Peter has so much to learn from him. He was said to have locked all doors leading to the house so that nobody would disturb his caged boxing bout with his wife as he pounced on the woman and beat her mercilessly, denying neighbours the chance to rescue her from him. The show of shame of this fighting pastor continued for more than 2 hours before the men of the Alausa command of the Police Force came to the rescue of the Pastor Mrs when her younger brother called them to the rescue. Pastor Oso was later invited to the police station where the DCO asked him to settle his home as such act was unbecoming of his status in the society. The pastor pleaded with the policemen not to let the story get out of the station, forgetting that his neighbours were also aware of the whole incident. There is a saying that attitude is like smoke; no matter how hard you try to cover it, it gets to show itself. Oso’s conduct has finally shown that there is indeed a devil in this man of God. http://nigeriafilms.com/news/11906/35/pastor-oso-beats-wife-to-coma.html |

Iloegbunam: Ndigbo and the promise of 2015 Monday, 30 May 2011 00:00 By Chuks Iloegbunam Opinion - Columnists E-mail Print User Rating: / 1 PoorBest Uweche_news_14-08-10 OHANAEZE Ndigbo did not support Dr. Goodluck Jonathan’s presidential bid in order that the Igbo would be rewarded with the position of Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives. All those commentators claiming that both Ohanaeze and President Jonathan have betrayed Ndigbo will do well to get their bearing right. It is often said that those who miss a burial will start exhuming the corpse foot first, which is abominable in the Igbo worldview. Unfortunately, the Igbo jeremiad on the “missed” position of Speakership hasn’t come from those unaware of what went on; it is simply the noisy dissembling of the tiny fringe that got told, in effect, to shut up in the matter of which candidate Ndigbo must support for the presidency. We cannot allow this unpatriotic fringe to continue playing spoiler. Witness: In arguing for Ndigbo to support Jonathan’s presidential bid, Ohanaeze Ndigbo articulated its position in the clearest of terms. The umbrella body of the Igbo in Nigeria and in the Diaspora took out copious adverts in the media to make its point. To cite two instances, page 21 of Saturday Champion of October 23, 2010, and page 23 of the Daily Sun of Monday October 25, 2010, carried the Ohanaeze Ndigbo advert entitled Presidential Election And zoning: The Position Of Ohanaeze Ndigbo. Signed by the organization’s President-General, Ambassador Raph Uwechue, the 4th and last paragraph of the advert stated as follows: “Ohanaeze Ndigbo firmly believes in the reality and absolute equality of the six zones and holds the view that the topmost executive office in the land – Prime Minister or President – which has eluded the two geopolitical zones of the South-South and South-East since the birth of our nation half a century ago, should now go to them in turn in unbroken succession as a matter of national priority, before any other zone can justly claim the right to a second or third turn. In line with this position, taken after wide consultation over several months, among Igbo people at home and abroad, Ohanaeze Ndigbo confidently urges the Igbo Nation to support en masse a credible, new-generation Presidential candidate that has emerged from the South-South geo-political zone, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan.” Thus, when an Igbo journalist or an Igbo political leader discounts the above and goes singing the jaded song of “betrayal”, it is obvious that insincerity is writ large. Ohanaeze Ndigbo did not tell the Igbo to support President Jonathan so as to get one of their own put up as House Speaker. What Ohanaeze Ndigbo said was and is this clear: Ndigbo will support the South-South in the “credible, new-generation Presidential candidate that has emerged from the geo-political zone, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan”, so that the presidency will thereafter go to the South-East “in unbroken succession as a matter of national priority, before any other zone can justly claim the right to a second or third turn.” When Ohanaeze Ndigbo articulated this position, it drew the ire of an amorphous society dubbed the Igbo Political forum or IPF which plastered the media with negative, but ultimately, ineffective propaganda against the umbrella body of the Igbo ethnic group. The IPF was non-existent until the run-up to the presidential election. As a body, the IPF is not known to have held another meeting or taken any position on anything since the landmark ballot. But elements of the body are clearly behind the current campaign to tar Ohanaeze Ndigbo with the brush of betrayal on account of a mere legislative office. When looked at critically the IPF covets the same goal as the Ohanaeze Ndigbo to wit: the emergence of a President of Nigeria from the South-East geopolitical zone in 2015. The IPF is peopled by politicians who claimed that Atiku or Babangida or Buhari or Ribadu will serve a single presidential term and hand over power to an Igbo successor in 2015. On the contrary, Ohanaeze Ndigbo convinced the Igbo to take the Jonathan route to 2015. With Jonathan’s electoral victory, he is the only route to the Igbo dream of 2015. When people who should pursue this dream choose, instead, to lament a phantom betrayal, it amounts to chasing rats when the homestead is on fire. Therefore, a stop should be put to the ongoing media diatribe against the Ohanaeze Ndigbo. Key point: Igbo unity is preferable than their being fractious but producing Nigeria’s President. Yet, Ndigbo disunited can never make the presidency. As I said in a previous article, “All the wailing and lamentation regarding a ‘missed’ position of House Speaker should cease. The cynosure of all eyes should not dab their face in charcoal. Ndigbo should rather concentrate on those issues that belong to their eventual escape from the status of second class citizenship. This habit of appropriating the media to hector and holler at the drop of every hat, this shouting from the rooftops every twinkle of an eye cannot solve a thing.” The Promise Of 2015 will succeed only if Ndigbo present a united front. The time is ripe to solidify the previously shattered but now reengineered and rejuvenated esprit de corps between the South-East and the South-South. The time is ripe for the buried bones of the handshake across the Niger to rise again and shine. The time is ripe to look northwards, to explain that what Ndigbo seek can be wrapped up in three ideals: justice, equity and fair play. The Nigeria of today should have no problems with the theme of justice. If Barack Obama, whose father was Kenyan, can become the President of the United States of America, only bigots can still insist that the idea of an Igbo president of Nigeria in 2015 is insufferable. Ndigbo fought for this country’s independence. Ndigbo fought to build up this country. Ndigbo have always been active participants in all positive aspects of Nigeria’s development, except at the apex of its leadership, where they have deliberately been kept out by prejudicial considerations. Therefore, Ndigbo have got to enjoy all the rights and privileges attendant to Nigerian citizenship. But Ndigbo must be united. Once all concerned appreciate and respect this imperative, the groundswell for justice in the matter of an Igbo president of Nigeria will gain ascendancy. The late nationalist, Chief Anthony Enahoro, a Deltan, supported the idea of an Igbo President of Nigeria. (see the New Age newspaper of November 2, 2004.) The late Alhaji Wada Nas, a former Federal Minister from the north, supported the idea of an Igbo President of Nigeria. (see the Vanguard newspaper of Monday July 12, 2004.) General Yakubu Gowon, a former Nigerian Head of State, supports the idea of an Igbo President of Nigeria. (see the Daily Champion newspaper of November 3, 2004.) Dr. Frederick Fasehun, the leader of the Oodua Peoples’ Congress (OPC), supports the idea of an Igbo President of Nigeria. (see the Daily Champion of Monday July 26, 2004.) Most importantly, the new generation of Nigerians, those who trooped out in the millions to elect Goodluck Jonathan Nigeria’s President, are irreversibly free from the shackles of prejudice and political bigotry. All this means one thing: If Ndigbo get their act together, the promise of 2015 will be redeemed. • Iloegbunam is the author of The Case for an Igbo President of Nigeria http://www.guardiannewsngr.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=49605:iloegbunam-ndigbo-and-the-promise-of-2015&catid=38:columnists&Itemid=615 |

Bankole’s brother arraigned over N2.8m fraud By Francis Falola, Abeokuta Saturday, 28 May 2011 View All (19) Comment(s) Post Comment Send to friend Share click to expand image Dimeji Bankole A younger brother of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Dimeji Bankole, Toyin, was on Friday arraigned before a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Abeokuta for allegedly defrauding one Modinat Odunlami of N2.8m. Also arraigned with Bankole’s younger brother was one Segun Baruwa, who allegedly conspired to commit fraud by collecting money from Odunlami through fraudulent means. The First Information Report in the suit number MA18/2009 made available to our correspondent showed that Baruwa introduced the complainant to Bankole’s brother. The police prosecutor, Paul Etusi, an inspector, told the court that the accused collected the money under the pretence that they would help her and her daughter to secure an overseas visa and admission respectively. Etusi, who said the offence was committed on January 15, 2009, called eight witnesses to support his claim, but six of them were in court during Friday’s sitting. He stated that Toyin had informed his victims that he would use the influence of his brother (Speaker Dimeji Bankole) to facilitate the issuance of the visa and securing of an admission for the daughter. He informed the court that he was ready to open the case for full trial, while expressing regret that efforts made by the complainant and the police to get the matter settled out of court failed to yield the desired result, as the accused were not ready to refund the money. According to him, the offence is contrary to and punishable under Sections 516, 419 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State, 2006. However, the defence counsel, Adedotun Akinmade, who was represented by another counsel, Carol Omobujo, pleaded for a short adjournment, saying that they were not ready for trial. In his ruling, Chief Magistrate Kolawole Peters, granted the request for an adjournment and adjourned the case till July 13 for further hearing. Odunlami said after the proceeding that the case had to suffer a series of postponements so as to allow for an out-of-court settlement. She stated that the Speaker’s father, Chief Alani Bankole, had earlier intervened and promised to get the issue resolved out of court, adding that the case had to continue following the non-fulfilment of the promise. |

Speaker bid: S’West loses out , As rebellious reps settle for Tambuwal From JAMES OJO, Abuja Monday, May 23, 2011 • Leaders lobby for SGF advertisement Following indications that the South-West may lose out in the power sharing game of the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] with the entry of Aminu Tambuwal into the race for the Speaker of the House of Representatives, a group of leaders met at the weekend and resolved to demand for the position of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation [SGF]. The position of the Speaker was zoned to the South-West by the PDP after the April election and qualified members of the party from the zone had intensified campaign for the plum job. Mrs Mulikat Adeola-Akande, Muraina Ajibola were the two known runners in the speakership race from the South-West. While the caucus of the party in the zone had declared Ajibola as the party’s candidate for the job, Adeola-Akande, the only woman aspirant was banking on the support of Dame Patience Jonathan, wife of the president and the women folk to win the race. They took the advantages offered by a week-long induction retreat for would-be members of the new House in the six zones to campaign for the job. But the declaration of Aminu Tambuwal to throw his hat in the ring for the job opened up the space for the job and changed the political calculations, against party directives. Tambuwal, who is from the North-West zone commands respect and large followership among the returning and newly-elected members of the House. He too toured the six centres of the retreat to galvanize support of the members and has met with other stake holders. It was on the popularity and acceptability of Tambuwal among the members that informed the Saturday’s meeting at the instance of political office holders in the Presidency from the South-West to review the sharing of positions by the PDP. A source at the meeting said that the future of the zone in the next four years formed the agenda of the meeting, which was facilitated by a senior female appointee of the presidency. According to him, the meeting examined the chances of the two candidates from the zone in the race for the speakership and concluded that the zone was at risk of losing out.“Sentiments apart, we did a thorough review of the chances of the candidates from our zone, it was made known to us that they cannot match the man from the North-West who had declared his intension to run for the position of the Speaker of the House. “I must confess to you that we are not comfortable with the insistence of the House to adopt the open secret ballot in election of the next speaker. They have gone ahead to change their rules, this means that they are not ready to accept imposition of candidate.” “If we depend only on the power of zoning, the South West zone may end up with no position among the six top-most political offices in the country. “This is why we agreed to reach out to our political leaders and traditional leaders to put the interest of the zone first when negotiating for political offices, the poor show of the party in the zone had not helped matters and we felt that since it is almost certain that we might not get the Speaker, we should ask for an office that will not be open to contest.” Meanwhile, indications emerged at the weekend that the sustaining power behind the aspiration of Mrs Akande-Adeola for the post of the Speaker is President Goodluck Jonathan’s wife, Dame Patience Jonathan. However, this was denied by the office of the first lady through the Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Ayo Adewuyi who responded to questions who said that what was paramount in the heart of Mrs Jonathan was to give her husband support for the challenges ahead of the inauguration of a new administration.“It is not true that the First Lady is supporting anybody in the race to House Speakership. She is not a politician and her duty stops at being the wife of the President.” Also, it was gathered that the Presidency may have settled for Mr Yakubu Dogara, the current Chairman of the House Committee on House Services from Bogoro/Dass/Tafawa Balewa Federal constituency of Bauchi State as Deputy Speaker designated. Adeola- Akande got the support of the wife of the president after several delegations of women politicians, who appealed to her to use her position to prevail on the President to ensure her emergence so that she could be one of the female voices in the new dispensation. The lobby group, it was gathered latched on the President’s promise during his campaigns that he would allow women to participate fully in his new administration. |
