Lawyer asks court to revoke telecoms firm’s licence over alleged illegal lottery

LAGOS – A Lagos lawyer, Benjamin Owiadolor, has asked a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos to order the Nigerian Telecommunications Commission, NCC, to revoke the licence of Airtel Nigeria Limited for allegedly operating an illegal lottery.

Owiadolor in the suit, is urging the court to mandate Airtel to refund all money expended by subscribers, who participated in the competition known as “wake up a millionaire promo” by way of credit, which should be done under the NCC supervision.

The plaintiff also want the court to declare that the promo embarked upon by Airtel, without the requisite licence from the National Lotteries Regulations Commission, NLRC, is illegal and a contravention of the provisions of the NLRC Act and Lotteries and Pools Betting Laws of Lagos State.

He is also is seeking against Airtel, N1 million special and general damages for the considerable harm, mental and physical disturbances and untold trauma he suffered as a result of the invasion of his privacy through the sending of unwarranted text messages by Airtel.

But Airtel in its statement of defence, insisted that the “wake up a millionaire promo” was not illegally organised as necessary regulatory approvals were secured from the NLRC before it embarked on the competition.

It adding that the promo was not intended to mislead, defraud or rip-off the plaintiff or any other participant of their money, describing the suit an abuse of court process

Teling lagosians to shine their eye is trying to whip up unnecessary sentiments and im sorry to inform you that people are not silly. .Fashola can keep acting like the victimized underdog to satisfy his appetite for greed but he is really not the victim here. .he's just being greedy an he's afraid a successor might expose all his fraudulent contracts like the ighodalo ones and others we hear about in hush tones. .I know he's also afraid that the interests of PLYCON and his other companies may not be well served until the fully consolidate and stabilize as all these companies are still in early formative stages.

Fashola is a greedy self-serving and play acting administrator as far as im concerned and i really hope he doesnt come back. .he belongs to the class of new-breed politicians who use fake smiles , beautiful speeches and underdog posture to hoodwink the people and shortchange them . .Jonathan also employs these same tactics.

Im more interested in what a leader would do than what he would say;

I'm more interested in a leader that acts than one that talks too much;

I love good speeches but let it be backed up with real development and dividends of democracy. .

The kind of less talk , more action and multiple dividends that banire has quietly been showing in his eight year stint in government. .that is why i throw my support behind the man,that is why i believe in the man.

Fashola is only trying to make a fool of me.

I ve been telling people since that this Muiz is the only person that can take lagos to new heights after fashola. .the guy is like a robot and never gets tired. once i went for an event at NIIA where he was the special guest of honor and he unbelievably drove himself into the venue in a busted toyota corrolla without any police or aides.  . he had taken his seat among members of the crowd and had organizers panicking as to whether he would show or not until one of them spotted the young technocrat somewhere amongst the crowd possibly making changes to his speech.

Personally i dont agreethat he will hand over the treasury to tinubu. .there is now ekiti and osun so tinubu wil let lagos breathe a little and muiz will have funds and that undying energy to work and work for a newer and brighter lagos
