However, Lagos is already a city set to prosper...... Have that at the back of your mind. It is a strategic city located between West Africa, and The rest of Nigeria. By now, the upward trend of Lagos and environs can't be reversed anymore.
Infact I would advice Yorubas living in Lagos to do the same by investing in the hinterland of Yorubaland, so that SW regional development can be a bit more even.

Look for example, The FG completely ignores the rest of the region while focusing solely on Lagos. Every Nigerian gets to use all the facilities built in Lagos, while Yorubas from other states of the SW get nothing.... Now is that fair?
Enugu, Uyo, Asaba, Owerri, Port harcourt, Calabar, Benin, Warri all have airports. Infact GEJ was already building another one in Bayelsa........ While in the SW, it is just Lagos, Akure and Ibadan. Does that look balanced to you? Many other cases.

I completely agree with you. There is so much imbalance in Nigeria. Yet we cry about the over-use of a few cities by everyone. Nigeria should deliberately spread development to all regions. That way we save the ecosystem of the congested areas while developing new frontiers for growth and development. Any wonder why nearly all parts of the US have considerably similar development? They are not stupid who make (or at least try to make) things even/equal for everyone.

Isn't it weird the way you keep talking about the handfull of Igbo investments made in that sprawling city, and then conveniently neglect the millions of Igbos that live there and WORK in the state owned sectors?

Let Igbos businessmen start investing in the South-East quite alright, no problem.
BUT if Ambode starts sending every person of Igbo origin back, don;t complain. You can't be in Lagos to make money and then use the proceeds to build a duplex somewhere in Enugu while making the source of your income dirty and congested.

That in bold is a good reason why Igbos should invest back in Igboland. That will lead to less people trouping to Lagos, as well as many of the Igbos in Lagos relocating to go and work in these investments in SE. If any Igbo is found qualified to work in the public sector in Lagos, they are welcome to be employed by the Lagos govt. They will pay taxes in Lagos.

BTW, Igbo investment in Lagos is more than a handful. Do not belittle it, ungratefully

That is the point I have always made. There is a time to look at the future rather than at present gains or difficulties. Twenty to thirty years ago, there was no such thing as Dubai being a global market. Today, it is one of the big global markets, developed by Dubaians before others came in. Likewise, Igbos must develop their land for the long term benefits. The earlier they start to do so, the better for them.

The upcoming youth is more pro-Igbo land development. If you doubt me, ask young Igbo folks interested in business, where they plan to invest.

In Nigeria (including Igbo Nigeria), the youths have little chance to grow and develop. The old have taken everything, leaving nothing for the youth to grow with.

Techno Oil floats N3bn LPG cylinder plant

Indigenous firm, Techno Oil Limited is embarking on the construction of a N3billion Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinder manufacturing plant in Lagos.

LPG is also popularly known as cooking gas. The Techno Oil plant on coming on stream by the end of November this year (2015) targets the production of five million units of cooking gas cylinders annually.

“The construction of the plant has since commenced at Lekki, Lagos and it is valued at over N3 billion and is expected to offer no fewer than 1,000 jobs to Nigerians,” said Nkechi Obi, Executive Vice Chairman of the company.

Currently, the machines fabrication and construction of the plant, are being monitored in strict compliance to regulatory standards as stipulated by Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON), Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR).
Obi, told energy correspondents in Lagos over the weekend that the plant was being constructed in partnership with a European firm which has built similar plants in over 15 African and Asian countries.

Obi said that her company embarked on the project as part of its contribution to the drive by the Federal Government to deepen LPG and encourage more Nigerians to embrace the use of LPG which she described as a cleaner, safer and affordable source of fuels for homes.
She said the Techno Oil LPG Cylinder Manufacturing Plant when fully operational, would also offer value added services to the cooking gas users through integrated cylinder integrity testing facility. This would be a relief because most cylinder users do not have access to the facility that helps to test the integrity of their cylinders.

Obi also said that although the use of cooking gas had increased by about 36.8 per cent in Nigeria in the past three years, over 80 per cent of households still relied on kerosene, firewood and other dangerous energy sources.

She lamented that Nigeria had a population of over 170 million people, yet the country has less than one million cooking gas cylinders in circulation.

“The huge capital expended annually on the importation of LPG cylinders is a monumental loss to this country,” said Obi.
“With the completion of this project, Nigeria will curb this huge capital flight which is estimated at N5 billion annually and further reduce the depletion of our foreign reserve,” she added.

She expressed optimism that the Techno Oil LPG manufacturing plant would assist in checking capital flight suffered by Nigeria in importing cylinders and the huge kerosene subsidy estimated at over N150 billion annually, will be saved
According to her this will enable government to save the high cost expended every year to import LPG cylinders from India, China, Turkey and other Asian countries.

Said Obi,“This gap is what Techno Oil has positioned itself to provide solution to by making sure that high quality LPG cylinders are produced locally. We have the capacity to cater for the need of the Nigerian/West African populace. Hence, we do not foresee any organization importing cylinders in the nearest future.”

She lamented that Nigeria still ranked lowest in sub-Saharan Africa in per capita usage of LPG, consuming 1.1kg compared with Ghana at 3.0kg.“South Africa consumes 5.5kg, while Morocco consumes 44kg per capita.

The Techno Oil chief argued that making more Nigerians to embrace cooking gas instead of using firewood would help in the drive to sustain the environment and preserve the fragile Eco-system.

ONLOOKERS were stunned into silence yesterday at the headquarters of Oyo State Police Command as a 50-year old suspect, Kamoru Oladele, narrated how he sells human parts for between N25,000 and N30,000, adding that his gang has human abattoirs in Oyo and Osun states. Narrating how the law caught up with the suspects, Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Leye Oyebade, said the breakthrough was made by the special anti-kidnapping squad of the Command after receiving intelligence report on the activities of the suspects. Police further stated that the suspects had succeeded in giving their victims erroneous impression that they could make them rich through rituals. The suspect told Vanguard: “I am a herbalist and I do fortune charms for people. I am not the one that usually sells human parts. I buy from some people. This is my first time of engaging in this kind of business. I usually buy the human skull for N10,000 and sell it for N25,000 for those that come for fortune charms.”

When police searched his house, they alleged that one smoked human skull was recovered. They further explained that the suspect used coded words for different human parts. Oladele said the words can only be decoded by their initiates, adding that “a human head that sells for N30,000 is called agbon (coconut).” The abattoirs He also disclosed that their trade was carried out in their human abattoirs located at Amuloko and Kuta villages in Oyo and Osun states, respectively.

Anambra State is one of the Igbo states of Nigeria. It is a state that has produced great innovators like Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, Odumegwu Ojukwu, Alex Ekwueme, Innoson Chukwuma, Chuba Okadigbo, Emeka Anyaoku, Peter Emeagwali, Dora Akunyili, Chukwuma Soludo just to mention a few. Anambra State is known as a pace setter as far as Nigeria and Africa is concerned – in the areas of politics, business, the arts and any other sector.

An group of traders in Anambra created Nollywood, a multibillion Dollar industry and the number 3 film industry in the world without access to funds like bank loans. One must ask what they would have been able to do for the black man if they had access to loans like others. But without access to loans Anambra had all these years a resource that was worth so much, it would have given them the money they would have used to do more to make Nigeria the first developed country in Africa. Anambra had crude oil, but was prevented by hook or crook from exploiting and benefiting from it.

In Anam in Anambra North, it is said that anybody up to 40 years can count the number of oil fields in their locality, but guess what, nothing is being done about it by the Federal Government. This is the same Federal Government that has spent over N900 billing in a matter of decades searching for oil in the North.

What this shows is a systematic attempt to deny the Igbos a source of financing for development, and it seems to have worked because oil is no longer the Black Gold it used to be, with the price sliding uncontrollably from $100 a barrel a few years ago to just about $30 today.

All these years , the oil producing states in Nigeria, while not being in total control of the resource in their localities enjoyed 13 percent derivation on the revenues accruing from the oil in their states. With such money is a serious state government in Anambra would have been able to build schools, hospitals, roads, low-income housing, etc., to make the quality of life better for the people. But they were not allowed to do so by a Federal Government that had classified the oil as a strategic reserve. Strategic reserve for when? When the oil is worthless or when alternatives are found for fossil fuels, I guess.

I do not believe that oil is automatically a curse as is now the cliché. I believe oil is a resource that is of great benefit to anyone that has it under their lands or waters if the funds derived from it are well managed. For instance, Norway was able to use their oil to create a rainy day fund, and has saved so much money from oil over the years, that if the money saved from oil is shared today, every single citizen would receive $1 million US Dollars each!

Oil was meant to be a great equalizer that would give poor countries, a lot of whom had it, a lot of money – money they would have found difficult to get to finance their development. For instance, Dubai, when they found out that their crude oil would dry up in a few years used a large portion of the oil revenue they had gathered to quickly diversify their economy into the trade and tourism sector; and that transformed it into the trade and investment hub that it is today.

I shake my head in sadness when I look at all the opportunities to finance development Anambra State would have been able utilize if it was allowed to exploit its oil or if its oil was exploited by the Federal Government.

It would have been easy for a responsible Anambra State government to partner with Delta State to build the second Niger Bridge that has taken the Federal Government forever to build.

The Anambra State Government would have found it easy to turn the Onitsha Main Market into a kind of Dubai, with a well constructed Onitsha Airport handling the arrival of international passengers to trade, a situation that would have brought in a lot of badly needed foreign exchange into Nigeria’s economy.

The Anambra State Government would have found it easy to turn the commercial town of Nnewi into the workshop of Africa, a place where lots of industrial goods are manufactured for use in Nigeria and for export abroad. Already, in spite of the challenging business environment present today Nnewi plays host to such great manufacturers like Innoson, an indigenous company that manufactures motor vehicles. There is also Coscharis, PO Ogbuawa, and other manufacturing concerns.

The Anambra State Government would have found it easy to build the Onitsha Inland Port a long time ago to drive commerce ever more closer to Onitsha.

But alas, it seems Anambra may have been denied the opportunity to benefit from the oil that flows underneath it in seismic streams. The price of oil has fallen from over $100 in 2014 to about $30 today, amid a dire prediction by international investor Prince Alwaleed of Saudi that the price of oil may never reach $100 again.

While we hope his prediction would not come to pass, we can’t fail to notice that there is a serious oil glut in the world market; and a country like Nigeria which used to find it very easy to sell of its oil to wealthy countries who needed oil to power their economies now finds it extremely difficult to find buyers for her oil – even with the low price.

The United States which used to get 10 percent of its oil from Nigeria has since ended that arrangement and has instead become a net exporter of oil like Nigeria, adding to the low prices.

To make matters worse, Iran which was barred from exporting oil is in the process of flooding the world market with oil. So, as you can see, barring any unforeseen occurrence, Prince Alwaleed’s statement holds a lot of water.

Big political dilemma brewing in Anambra State

Trouble comes calling for Sir Victor Umeh as the Federal High Court Seating this afternoon in Abuja cleared PDP to field Mr. Peter Obi (former Governor) in the re-run of the Anambra Central Senatorial election scheduled to hold on March 5.

On hearing this development, the Governor's wife, Chief Mrs Obiano screamed at Awka, "kedu ka dim ga esi gwa ndi Anambra not to vote for Obi?".

It is likely that the First lady will advice Gov. Willie Obiano to dump Sir Umeh and remain neutral as they can not campaign against Obi who made him governor.

Sorry, but all the Yorubas I have met have been bad. I therefore do not wish to meet anymore of them on a personal level. We can remain compatriots until further notice.

Just for disclosure. Within Nigeria, I have no personal investments outside Igboland. So I am not coming from a selfish position (AKA trying to protect my interest), but from a conscious interest for the Igbo as a community.

In addition to not having yet put in place significant sustainable development in Igboland itself, Igbos opting out of Nigeria without PROPER EXIT PLANS is tantamount to enriching other Nigerians (for the second time) with their hard earned investments scattered all over their lands. Igbos of today should be better than that. We should be strategic as opposed to being impulsive.
