The Federal Government said Thursday that the purpose of reintroducing tolling system into the management of the Nigerian roads was to help boost the road sector across the country. The Federal Minister of state of works Amb. Bashir Yuguda, made this known during the Federal Roads and Bridges Tolling Policy consultation forum in Abuja, saying that the re-introduction of the tolling policy would open the sector to both local and international investors. He said that the fact that over 90 per cent of economic and social activities are run on the Nigerian roads put so much pressure on them, adding that as such so much funds are needed to maintain the roads to keep them in motorable condition. “The economy is doing well, the road transport account for over 90% of the movement of road and services in the country any nation no matter how advance you are, almost 90% of the movement of goods and services in this country is on road and that calls for regular maintenance. Yuguda noted that it would be run on a Public Private Partnership basis unlike in the past where it was run in a public service method with all its trappings of inadequacies and mismanagement. According to him, federal government had come up with a comprehensive policy to back up the tolling system with a view to avoiding the pitfalls of the past. He urged all the participants to deplored their professional acumen in coming up with a robust policy document that would enhance seamless operation of the tolling policy. “I urge you to have robust discussion on how we can come up with comprehensive policy on our roads. We have developed a template and we will subject to review, after which we will now come up with the final document to take to the federal council for the approval of the council and the approval of the President, Yuguda added |
FRSC to extend number plates, driving licence deadline September 12, 2013 by Rashidi Bisiriyu Leave a Comment FRSC Corps Marshal, Osita Chidoka | credits: File copy There are indications that the Federal Road Safety Corps may extend the deadline for the enforcement of new driving licence and number plates. The corps had given September 30 as deadline for motorists to obtain the two vital documents and was expected to commence a nationwide enforcement on October 1. But following public outcry showing that over 50 per cent of motorists had yet to procure the two items, the FRSC might have bowed to pressure to extend the deadline to the end of the year. A source at the FRSC head office in Abuja told our correspondent on the telephone on Wednesday that the Corp Marshal, Mr. Osita Chidoka, had already sent a proposal to the joint tax force for the extension. There were complaints from motorists, especially in Lagos and Abuja that they faced a lot of difficulties in processing the new driving licence and the number plates. Meanwhile, the FRSC on Wednesday in Lagos continued its speed limit campaign and encouraged motorists and transport companies to install a standard device in their vehicles |
Controversy currently trails the parenthood of five-month-old twins who were presented at the United States of America’s embassy by their supposed parents for the procurement of visa. This follows result of a DNA test ordered by the embassy which reports showed that the couple were not the biological parents of the twins as claimed. Consequently, the couple have been arrested and are being interrogated at the Special Fraud Unit, SFU Milverton, for alleged child-trafficking. Although investigation, according to the unit, had not been concluded, there were indication that the children could have been bought for N1.8 million somewhere in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. Following the discovery, the passport of the supposed father, Mr Adenuga Shoyibo, a Nigerian based in America has been seized pending the outcome of the investigation. But Soyibo, who claimed to be a USA citizen, maintained that the children were theirs, disclosing that the twins came at a traditional home in Port Harcourt, 15 years after they got married. He further revealed that he paid N1.8 million to the trado-medical practitioner for the herbs administered to his wife which eventually led to her conception. But in the course of investigation, Commissioner of Police in charge of the unit, Mr Tunde Ogunsaki, was said to have detailed some policemen to accompany Elizabeth to the trado medical home where she claimed the babies were delivered, with a view to ascertaining her claim. The CP said: “During investigation, detectives travelled to Port-Harcourt, Rivers State where the woman claimed she gave birth to the twins in a private small house. But on reaching Port-Harcourt, the woman claimed she could no longer locate the place, she also stated that she had no antenatal record anywhere as she did not attend any. “Adenuga Soyibo, who claimed to be the father of the twins, on his own part, said he was also given local herbs that boosted his sperm count that produced the babies. Both suspects claimed they could no longer trace the woman whom they paid the N1.8 million for the local herbs for the babies delivery. They also could not produce anyone who knew about the conception and the subsequent delivery of the babies.” Mr Soyibo, however, said he met the woman, one Mrs Okoro, last year, adding that when the delivery date was near, he arrived the country November 19, 2012 and four days later his wife travelled to Port Harcourt where she was delivered same day and returned to their Ikorodu abode the following day. He further stated that he did not go to Port Harcourt with his wife, saying he was too tired because of the journey. Currently, Soyibo’s travelling documents have been seized pending the outcome of investigation. But the couple were released on bail, yesterday, and advised to be visiting for further interrogation. |
I lost my fone last year while I was driving along alternative route oniru,I came out of my car to fixed my wiper, not knowing that my fone fell off from my laps. I started looking for the fone ,at the same time calling the number ,I quickly call a friend to take me back to that spot, i was also calling the number,to my surprised a man picked my call and he told me is on his way to airport. I told him I'm the owner of the fone,I also explained how it got lost. He promised to return it but later he sent text that I was too careless,I was begging from mrn till nite. later he told me he will not release it. I was really annoyed, that is how I sent a text that nobody is above mistake and that I handed everything over to God. The guy was very annoyed and reply that I'm showing my ego as a woman. All my colleges were chatting with him and begging. I have made up my mind to block the line the next day, that is how my friend call me to hold on a little, that the guy will release it. One of my friend later calling him and he told her I should come and meet him somewhere around lekki,I waited at the same time sending him sms to describe myself. I waited for like an hour before the guy show off and dropped my fone. I was very happy and I gave the guy a very nice hug. This is my story |

First lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, Sunday, said she died and woke up during the period of her ailment which necessitated her absence from the country for almost three months. In a thanksgiving service at the state House chapel in Abuja, the first lady said prayers offered by Nigerians sustained her while some people who had taken her for dead had began selling her properties. According to her, she underwent seven surgery operations within one month and the doctors had given up hope on her survival. She said: “I remember when Chief Obasanjo was the President of the country, I was close to his late wife, Stella. We worshiped together in this chapel. “It was a painful moment for me that time when she died and her corpse was brought here. “That was how my corpse would have been brought here. It was not an easy experience for me. I actually died, I passed out for more than a week. My intestine and tummy were opened. My doctors said all hope was lost. “A black doctor in London who is with us in this service was flown in when the situation became critical. It was God himself in His infinite mercy that said I will return to Nigeria. God woke me up after seven days. “I know that some people somehow leaked the information that I was dead. It is the Lord’s doing that I returned alive. I did eight or nine operations within one month. It was not an easy one. |
