JAMB cancels UTME in LAUTECH over disruption





Following the barricade of the campus gate by the protesting students of the institution, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has cancelled its Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) that was scheduled to hold on Monday at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Oyo State.




Hundreds of students of the university, in protest of what they described as the irresponsibility of the two owner states of the institution, trooped out as early as 6am to barricade the campus gate, insisting that until the welfare of their lecturers is addressed and normal academic and administrative activities resumed on the campus, no UTME would hold on the campus.




In an exclusive interview with the Director of Press of JAMB, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, explained that the decision was taken to avoid any of its examination candidates being injured in the process.



According to Benjamin, the candidates would be relocated to other centres soon.




He said: “We have noticed the insistence of the protesting students and it would not be safe to employ force. The candidates will be reallocated to other centres; they should monitor their emails to know where they would be posted to.”

Before you read the following, I just want you to know that these are things I am guilty of, too. Like I tell my church all the time: "I'm preaching to myself!" When it comes to following Christ, we are all a work in progress.




For those who know me, you are familiar with my personality, so you will be able to decipher my tone and picture me smiling as you read this. For those of you who don't know me, try to picture me smiling as you read on. So, go ahead and laugh, love, and perhaps even whisper, "Ouch."
And just so there's no confusion, the word Christian is defined as someone who professes Christ and embraces His teachings. Not only are the four gospels about Him, the entire Bible is Him because He is the Living Word.






Here is a list of the 22 things I believe Christ followers should cease and desist in their lives:

1. Quit expecting the world to like you.

Jesus said it would hate you (John 15:18-27, Matthew 10:22).


2. Quit throwing your own teammates under the bus.

We're called to build each other up, not tear each other down. In fact, Jesus said that our love for each other proves to the world that we are really His true disciples (John 13:35, 1 Thessalonians 5:11).


3. Quit gossiping.

This includes sharing "juicy prayer requests" with no intention of actually praying (Psalms 34:13, Psalms 101:5, Ephesians 4:29).


4. Quit replacing prayer with "good vibes" and "positive thoughts."

No. Just no. Prayer moves the hand of God and the hand of God moves the world. Prayer is much more effective than making someone feel warm and fuzzy inside. By the way, I'm not saying positive thoughts and good vibes are wrong (and they do make you feel good), I'm just saying prayer trumps them both (2 Corinthians 1:11, Philippians 1:19, Ephesians 6:18, James 5:16).


5. Quit saying repentance isn't necessary.

It is. Jesus said so. And just so you know, there are 53 references to repentance in the New Testament. Now go repent (Matthew 5:17, Acts 3:19, Romans 2:5, 2 Peter 3:9, 1 John 1:9).


6. Quit saying that the "portions of the Bible that make you feel uncomfortable" are irrelevant and nothing more than dated writings.

All 66 books, 1,189 chapters, and 31,102 verse are the inspired Word of God. So the next time you think about throwing out the Old Testament, just remember that Jesus quoted it numerous times in all four gospels (John 1:1-4, John 1:14, 2 Timothy 3:16).


7. Quit expecting unbelievers/non-Christians to understand the Bible and/or to live like Christ.

It's hard enough for Christians to live like Christ and it's impossible to do so without Him (until the blinders are removed) (2 Corinthians 4:4, 2 Corinthians 5:17, Galatians 5:24-25).



8. Quit acting like the Great Commission

(Go into all the world to preach the gospel) is the Great Suggestion. It's a command. Go already (Matthew 28:19, Mark 16:15).



9. Quit thinking that it's OK to be silent about your faith.

Yes, it's just as important to represent Jesus by how we live, but someone can't respond to the Good News without hearing it ... and they can't hear it if no one opens their mouth (Matthew 10:27, Romans 10:14-15).



10. Quit being more passionate about your political affiliation than your relationship with Jesus.

If 99 percent of what you post on social media consists of bashing government officials and presidential candidates—you're doing more damage than good (Romans 13:1-7, 2 Chronicles 7:14).



11. Quit using the Bible to beat the "hell" out of people.

That doesn't work. Ever. I don't care if you're right—if you're a jerk, nobody is listening. Love wins! (No, I don't mean the book by Rob Bell.) (1 Corinthians 13).



12. Quit your legalistic rants, knee-jerk reactions, and judgmentalism.

You're turning people off. You're making good news bad news. Jesus befriended sinners. Try it and great things will happen (Mark 2:17, Luke 5:27-32, 1 Timothy 1:15-16).


13. Quit calling yourself a Christian if you believe there are multiple paths that lead to salvation. Jesus said that He's the only way to heaven. If you don't believe Him, you're not a Christ follower (John 14:6, 1 John 2:4).


14. Quit living like everybody's going to heaven and nobody's going to hell. Jesus died so the whole world could be saved, but He said the path to heaven is narrow and few find it. And for the record, He preached more about hell than heaven ... but He did it without using a bullhorn and manipulative scare tactics. #LeadLikeJesus (Matthew 7:13-14).


15. Quit acting like you're better than those who don't know Jesus. You're not (Luke 18:19, Acts 10:34, Romans 2:11-13).


16. Quit criticizing loving believers who take a biblical stand for godly morals and Christian values (that are crystal clear in Scripture) just because you're too much of a wimp to take a stand yourself. Jesus didn't call us to be politically correct. Develop some backbone. And yes, I said wimp. And yes, I will repent for calling you a wimp (Acts 4-6).


17. Quit pointing out the speck in your neighbor's eye while ignoring the plank in your own eye. By the way, I can hardly see my computer as I type this because of the log in my own eye (Matthew 7:3-5).


18. Quit being a jerk, period. Whatever your position is (on anything), if you can't communicate it in love, you're a clanging cymbal and your message is worthless. So yeah, I probably shouldn't have called you a wimp in No. 16 (1 Corinthians 13).


19. Quit defending sin. Quit hating sinners. These are equally important. Oh yeah, and lose your critical lens (Psalm 97:10, Matthew 22:37-39).


20. Quit using the phrase "he who's without sin cast the first stone" out of context. The next thing Jesus said was, "Go and sin no more" (John 8:1-11).


21. Quit using grace as a license to live however you want. Jesus is grace, so don't trample Him under your feet (Romans 6:1-2, 1 John 2:4, Hebrews 10:26-31).


22. Quit using the phrase (when inviting people to church) "come as you are" if you're going to complain when they start showing up (Mark 2:17, Luke 5:27-32).

5. FORNICATES WITH THE SHEEP

Christianity has become so misunderstood. We’ve started seeing it as a list rules to follow instead of a vibrant, healing, redeeming, life-giving relationship with our Creator. In fact, I rarely like to use the word “can’t” and “Christian” in the same sentence, because I believe the essence of our faith is about freedom and the fact that we …”CAN do all things through Christ. ” (Philippians 4:13).




For all our freedoms in Christ, I’m deeply concerned that many of us have lost sight of the essence of Christianity. While it was never intended to be a set of rules to follow, we’ve adopted some destructive attitudes and behaviors that are undermining the foundation on which our faith should be built. This list below isn’t a call to any form of legalism or any attempt to earn God’s unmerited grace, but rather, a simple reminder about what it means to live in the freedom and grace our Savior gave His life to make possible for us.




This list is not comprehensive, but all of these are important. When you blow it in any of these areas (as most of us do daily) remember that God’s grace is bigger than our biggest sins! Embrace His grace and move forward in a better direction.




A Christian should NEVER…






1. Hold a grudge.
As I read the Bible, one of the most sobering realities is that while God’s grace to us is limitless, He gives it to us in the same measure we give it to others. In other words, we CAN’T receive God’s grace unless we’re willing to also forgive the people who have wronged us.


Augustine said, “Holding a grudge is like drinking poison and then hoping the other person dies! ” Jesus Himself teaches this important truth in many places including his famous Parable of the Unforgiving Debtor. As a Christian, we have to receive God’s forgiveness and we have to share forgiveness with others. It’s that simple.



“Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.” (Colossians 3:13)



“Then Peter came to him and asked, “Lord, how often should I forgive someone who sins against me? Seven times?” “No, not seven times,” Jesus replied, “but seventy times seven!” (Matthew 18:21-22)




2. Devalue or mistreat children.


We live in a culture that seems to value pets more than kids. We live in a world where more children than ever are being exploited through sexual slavery, human trafficking and other horrific abuses and Christians should be on the front lines in rescuing and protecting these kids, but too often, the plight of orphans and abused children is treated like an inconvenient distraction in modern churches.





There are also millions of Christians who support abortion rights which is the most dehumanizing practice of our time. It isn’t a political issue, but a moral travesty.




3. Misuse sex (or misuse another person for our own gratification).


Our culture is the most sexually exploited and exploitive culture in the history of the world. We’re so saturated with sexually-exploitive images that we don’t even think of it as strange anymore than a fish in the ocean doesn’t realize he’s wet…it’s just the only world he knows. As Christians, we are called to a high standard. We shouldn’t be having sex outside of marriage or looking at porn






4. Be anxious, worried or afraid.

This one doesn’t seem possible on the surface, but God is always calling us to do things that don’t seem possible. On nearly every page of scripture, He is telling us to stop worrying or to trust Him. He clearly wants us to understand that He is bigger than whatever we’re worrying about. When we choose to go through life preoccupied by fear or doubt, we are allowing worry to occupy the part of our heart where faith should live.



Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. ” (Philippians 4:6-7)
“This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)



“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” (Matthew 6:25-27)

There are indeed many dangers for last-day ministers. Whether you are an apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor or teacher, there are temptations and pitfalls at every turn. There are fiery darts coming your way. It can be difficult to know whom to trust. But that doesn’t mean you need to get stupid.



So if you are a minister, or if you aspire to be one, please decide now not to do the 10 stupid things Lee mentioned. And for good measure, please decide now not to do the 10 more stupid things I’ve outlined below that, unfortunately, have also become common in our movement during the past decade.


1. Abuse the sheep.

Always remember that church staff—and church volunteers—are serving God, not you. Spiritual abuse is a dirty little secret in the charismatic church that is seldom exposed because it would topple small and large man-made empires alike.
If you aren’t willing to be the servant of all—if you think the sheep are there to serve you—please hang up your ministry aspirations before you hurt someone. We don’t need more spiritual abusers in the pulpit.



2. Water down the gospel.

If you aren’t going to preach the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth—so help you God!—please don’t preach. Although there are many effective preaching styles, if you aren’t bold enough to preach the whole gospel—even the parts people don’t want to hear—then pray for boldness until you are.




3. Refuse to release people into ministry.

God’s people don’t belong to you. You aren’t the one who called them, Jesus did. You aren’t the one who anointed them, the Holy Spirit did. If you feel threatened at the notion of your worship leader moving on—or your members attending a conference at another local church—your insecurities are perverting your leadership. Equip people for the work of the ministry and then let them fulfill their calling no matter where God leads them without cursing them on their way out the door.




4. Focus on gimmicks and programs rather than people.

Seeker-friendly churches bring in bubble machines to attract the kids and A-to-Z programs to attract the adults. When the focus is on glitz, glare, glamour and gimmicks rather than meeting the true needs of people in the community, church can quickly become more like a Christian Club Med (or even a circus) than an expression of the kingdom of God. And that’s just dumb.

Pay LAUTECH workers, Oyo, lawmakers tell Aregbesola, Ajimobi





The Oyo State House of Assembly has appealed to Gov. Abiola Ajimobi and his Osun state counterpart, Rauf Aregbesola to pay the jointly-owned Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, (LAUTECH) Ogbomoso workers’ salary to avert a looming strike.





This followed a matter of urgent public importance by Mrs Olawunmi Oladeji a member representing Ogbomoso North at the plenary session on Tuesday.




Oladeji said that staff of the tertiary institutions have been subjected to untold hardship and embarrassment due to non-payment of seven and half months salary.




She recalled that the lingering crisis on nonpayment of salaries had earlier led to about eight months of industrial action which grounded academic activities in the institution.




“In a bid to resolve the crisis, a visitation panel was set up to investigate causes of the crisis with a view to proffer solutions however, the report of the visitation panel was never made public.




“Prior to the suspension of the strike by the staff union of the university, a MOU was signed with the administration of the school on behalf of the governing council.




“However, the content of MOU has been breached with accumulation of unpaid salaries and as a result the staff union is planning to embark on another industrial action,” she said.




Mr Muideen Olagunju (Accord/Oyo East/Oyo West) urged the assembly to be proactive in its oversight functions and critical issues that affect the state and it’s citizenry.




In his remarks, the Speaker, Michael Adeyemo, called on the two governors to engage to urgently address the issue of owing workers salary in the interest of the students

Oyo State House of Assembly on Tuesday summoned the Vice-Chancellor of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Ogbomoso Professor Sulaiman Adeniyi Gbadegesin and the state Commissioner for Education Professor Adeniyi Olowofela to appeal before it over the lingering crisis that has bedevil the institution in the last couple of years due to non-payment of workers salaries.




This was sequel to a motion of urgent public importance titled “Urgent need to avert another indefinite industrial action at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso” moved by Honourable Olawumi Oladeji (Ogbomoso North).



Oladeji argued that “prior to the suspension of the strike action by the unions in the university, a MOU was signed with the management on behalf of the governing council but now the content and the spirit of the agreement has been breached.
“Accumulation of arrears of unpaid salaries still continued unsettled, staff of the university now endure hardship and various financial embarrassments due to non-payment of salaries I.e.7 1/2 months of arrears.




She declared that the staff unions in the university is planning to embark on an indefinite strike action “if urgent intervention is not taken by the two owner states to rescue the situation whereby students of the university would engage themselves in aimless wandering and criminal activities because of idle hands is the devils workshop”.



She then “urged the house to call on the technical committee to hasten up their assignment and submit their report without further delay.



DAILY POST however gathered that the unions in the university have embarked on indefinite strike.





Other members including Hon. Gbenga Oyekola (Atiba) and Hon. Olusegun Olaleye (Ibadan North 11) urged the two states to as a matter of urgency ensure prompt payment of the staff in the institution make life more better for both students and workers in the institution.




The Speaker of the assembly, Hon. Michael Adeyemo then ordered the invitation of the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology and LAUTECH VC to appear before the committee on Education, Science and Technology with a view of making clarifications on the actual indebtness of the two owner states and suggest possible means of getting out of the woods.
Adeyemo urged the Oyo and Osun state governments for posterity sake to take actions on payment of outstanding salaries of LAUTECH staff.
He also asked the committee on Education, Science and Technology to meet the state commissioner for Education, Science and Technology as soon as possible with a view to meet the state governor Senator Abiola Ajimobi to know the actual debt Oyo State is contributing in the payment of the staffs

Actually a mature Christian, like a masterpiece of the Lord, is beyond description in words, yet his or her being testifies the delicate and crafty work of the Master. Anyway, above is my humble attempt to describe a mature Christian. While falling short of what I described by far, I, by His mercy and grace, do aspire to be a mature Christian one day.

1. A mature Christian recognizes that it is of God who shows mercy and grace, and he or she is always grateful for whatever is provided and arranged.


2. A mature Christian walks by faith, by trusting the inner leadings in spirit rather than the reasoning of the mind or outward signs.


3. A mature Christian constantly finds the Lord’s presence in his or her spirit, the hiding place of the most High. (The tabernacle tour)


4. A mature Christian stretches his or her root deep, directly drawing joy and supply from the Lord Himself.


5. A mature Christian keeps a clean conscience toward God and men by frequent confession.


6. A mature Christian has a pure heart only toward the Lord, desiring nothing other than Himself.


7. A mature Christian vigilantly and faithfully waits for the Lord’s return.


8. A mature Christian doesn’t seek glory for himself or herself, or expect praise from other people.


9. A mature Christian doesn’t love or protect the soul life, self, or natural man.


10. A mature Christian continues to empty his or her prejudice or knowledge gained from prior experiences.


11. A mature Christian is one without respect of persons, not judging people by their background, race, or social status.


12. A mature Christian never judges or condemn his or her brothers and sisters, always forgiving and never stumbling.


13. A mature Christian interprets the Lord’s leading in situations while not being effected by them.


14. A mature Christian always rejoices, not easily provoked by external factors or stirred up emotionally.


15. A mature Christian knows that the single most effective way to get things accomplished is prayer.


16. A mature Christian is always genuine and spontaneous, not trying to play roles or pretend to be godly.


17. A mature Christian expresses the Lord through his or her human virtues and love toward others.


18. A mature Christian loves, cares and acts for others’ spiritual growth.


19. A mature Christian is forbearing and accommodating to all people and conditions.


20. A mature Christian doesn’t poise him or herself as authority, or demand in a religious or doctrinal way but in the way of life.


21. A mature Christian genuinely feel happy for and satisfied with others’ successes and progresses, not feeling envy of them.


22. A mature Christian is empathetic and merciful toward others’ sufferings, able to touch and mourn with the suffering ones.


23. A mature Christian is quite ordinary, not appearing to be outstanding or special.


24. A mature Christian is not cynical and is one who manages his or her mouth well, never complaining or murmuring.


25. A mature Christian can properly probe and weight others’ spiritual condition and health by his or her own spirit.


26. A mature Christian knows the difference between service by natural effort and by the Lord’s grace and provision.


27. A mature Christian preaches the gospel by his or her living, and bears many fruits organically.


28. A mature Christian fellowships, builds up, and coordinates with various people, especially with his or her peers, able to both lead or submit properly within his or her measure in the body.


29. A mature Christian practices one accord or even one soul, knowing how to think the same thing and have the same mind.


30. Lastly, a mature Christian follows the greatest and first commandment, a commandment to love the Lord with the whole heart and with the whole soul and with the whole mind, and the second greatest commandment to love his or her neighbors as him or herself.
