Singer, Tuface Idibia, has denied having any feud with Super Eagles and Chelsea, midfielder Mikel Obi It‘s been alleged recently that Tuface‘s song ”Only me” was targeted at the 2005 U-20 World Cup silver medallist with rumours making the rounds that the Benue State-born artist had met Mikel in a night club in Lagos and made to say ‘hello‘ but was snubbed by the England-based player. The feud, it was alleged, prompted Tuface to compose ‘‘Only me.‘‘ Several lyrics in the song were allegedly pointed at Mikel but Tuface has denied the allegations on his Twitter page, and says he is not feuding with Mikel. ‘‘I hear people saying the song ”Only me” was composed because of Mikel Obi. For the records, I don‘t have any problem with him (Mikel); he‘s a talented footballer and I‘ve met him once,‘‘ Tuface said. |
The festering crisis in the Osun State Peoples Democratic Party deepened on Thursday night when 14 governorship aspirants of the party shunned a meeting called by Gov. Olagunsoye Oyinlola at the Government House, Osogbo. Oyinlola had called the meeting in order to put an end to the crisis, which has polarised the party ahead of the 2011 general elections. The crisis emanated over the tussle for the party’s governorship ticket with the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, and Oyinlola rooting for the Chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriation, Chief Iyiola Omisore. An exclusive story by The PUNCH on Thursday, quoted some leaders of the Osun PDP as warning the national leadership of the party that the ghost of the slain Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Chief Bola Ige, would haunt Osun PDP if Omisore was fielded as the governorship candidate. The letter, written to the National Chairman of PDP, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, warned that Ige was still loved by the people of the South-West, stressing that fielding Omisore would make the PDP lose Osun State in the 2011 general elections. Several members of Osun PDP have said that they preferred Action Congress of Nigeria governorship candidate, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, to emerge victorious in his petition being heard by an Appeal Court sitting in Ibadan, instead of Omisore emerging as the PDP candidate. An investigation revealed that some of the governorship aspirants were working closely with the Osun ACN with a view to wresting the state from the grip of the Oyinlola-Omisore group. The senatorial ambition of Oyinlola has been under severe threat with many leaders of the party threatening to scuttle his ambition and work for incumbent senator of Osun-Central, Chief Simeon Oduoye. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who waded in the crisis a few days ago, is favourably disposed to the 14 aspirants opposed to Omisore’s candidature. The aspirants are a former Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Akinade Akinbade; a former Chief of Staff, Elder Peter Babalola; a former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode; Nigeria’s Ambassador to Cuba, Chief Segun Bamigbetan-Baju; incumbent Chairman, Ife-East Local Government Council, Chief Gbenga Owolabi. The list includes Chief Wahab Toye, Chief Femi Alafe-Aluko, Chief Gbenga Onigbogi, Chief Fatai Sarumi, Chief John Fasogbon, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chief Nathaniel Oke; Chief Executive Officer, Nigeria Wire and Cable Limited, Alhaji Lateef Bakare; and a university lecturer, Prof. Wale Oladipo. In a telephone interview with our correspondent on Friday, Toye, who is a former Majority Leader in the state House of Assembly, said the 14 aspirants boycotted the meeting in order to avoid fracas. According to Toye, the group decided to boycott the meeting when three personalities, Messrs Ropo Oyewole, Lere Oyewumi, and Olowofoyeku, who are close to Omisore, were announced to have collected governorship forms. Toye said, “We respect our governor so much; he is still our leader. We decided not to attend the meeting because the three personalities that were announced to have collected governorship forms are friends of Omisore. “Our group too could have sponsored 10 more aspirants to buy forms but we don’t want fracas; this is why we stayed back from the meeting.” |

I was reading a book on African beliefs in deaths and re-incarnation which Yorubas popularly referred to as "Akudaya" which means somebody who transmigrates mythologically into a living being post him/her untimely death. I now begin to wonder if this is really true or it's just scientifically farce. So do you guys think?? |

I've always knows Amos Adamu to be a selfish gullible man and he doesn't deserved to represent Nigeria at the helm of affairs of FIFA,his stay there is long overdue and i think he should be prosecuted for that silly attitude because it's a slap on the integrity of Nigeria as a whole. |
We won’t stop releasing water from Oyan Dam — Agency By Francis Falola Thursday, 14 Oct 201 The management of the Ogun-Oshun River Basin Development Authority has said the agency will not stop the release of excess water from the Oyan Dam, explaining stoppage will endanger the lives and properties of people along the river channel. In an interview with journalists in Abeokuta on Wednesday on the recent floods in some parts of Lagos and Ogun States, which were widely blamed on the release of water from the dam, the management of the dam led by its Acting Managing Director, Mr. Rasaq Jimoh, denied the allegation, attributing the floods to climate change. He said, “If we stop the release of the excess water, the safety of the dam will be put into jeopardy and this will have severe consequences on the lives and properties of the people. “It may lead to the collapse of the dam and this is going to lead to loss of lives of millions of people with billions of properties destroyed as towns and villages along the river channel will be wiped off.” He said the agency never released water at night in the night but during the day to enable affected communities take precautionary measures. The authority claimed that its investigation, which included a helicopter survey of the basin and the affected areas, carried out in conjunction with the Ogun State Government, identified the cause of the flood as global climate change that brought about exceptionally high rainfall globally this year, causing a rise in the Atlantic Ocean level and forcing Lagos Lagoon water level to rise and spread into the flood prone areas. According to him, “A vast area of land (about 120 square kilometer) lying between Ikorodu/Kosofe/Ilate is flood prone and directly under the influence of backflow from the Lagos lagoon. This area is shared by both Lagos and Ogun States . “Therefore, water from Oyan River , into which the water released from Oyan Dam flows, could only be a small fraction of the aggregate rain water flowing into the Ogun River from these tributaries which include River Ewekoro, Opeji River, Eredu River Iwopin River , Sokori River, Owiwi River and Abjire River among others. The agency also blamed the flood situation on the construction of structures close to the river bank disregarding warning of “Green Belt Areas,” adding that the structures were put in place by the developers without consideration of possible flood. He maintained that the existence of the dam had helped in controlling flooding, insisting that the release of water, which he said was usually done gradually, was not the reason for the flood. He also disclosed that the authority had embarked on proactive measures by ensuring that the water from the dam was released to the barest minimum. He stated the need for radical and holistic approach from the Lagos and Ogun State governments, Ogun-Oshun River Basin Authority, National Environment Maintenance Agency; State Environmental Maintenance Agency and the owner of estates and buildings in the flood prone areas as well as other stakeholders. |

Nigeria striker Chinedu Obasi nears return to action By Oluwashina Okeleji BBC Sport, Hoffenheim, Germany Nigeria striker Chinedu Obasi is set to return to action in the German Bundesliga this weekend after four months out. Obasi suffered a stress fracture on his shin but could make his comeback for Hoffenheim against Borussia Mönchengladbach on Sunday. "I'm nearly there now and can't wait to get back into action this weekend," Obasi told BBC Sport after training. "I have stepped up my work and have had been no bad reaction," he continued. Obasi appeared in all of Nigeria's three group matches at the World Cup in South Africa but says he is disappointed that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have not shown any concern over his condition. "I am not surprised but rather disappointed that there has not been one call from anyone in the NFF to ask how I am doing. "Luckily for me, my club, teammates and family stood by me even though I got injured playing for Nigeria at the World Cup." But the 24-year-old can take solace in the fact that fellow African striker Demba Ba is delighted to have him back in the fold. "He [Obasi] brings a lot to the team and his return will be a great addition to the strike force," Senegalese Ba said. "Everyone is happy for him and he has worked extremely hard to get here. We all work together as a team and we can only get better now. Meanwhile, Obasi says the Super Eagles' recent slump in the 2012 Nations Cup qualifier against Guinea has not come as a shock. Nigeria were beaten 1-0 away in Guinea just two days after Fifa lifted a suspension they had imposed on them. Obasi told BBC Sport that the crisis-plagued football federation needs to put its house in order to salvage the Super Eagles. "There are too many problems [in that place]; it is a structural problem and once the head is in trouble it trickles down to the bottom," the Hoffenheim striker said. "It is surely not an excuse for us [the players] but a house in crisis will have a negative effect on its household. "Once the NFF can sort itself, get a substantive coach who will put together a solid team then the players will have no reason or whatsoever not to deliver. "We have coaches and players going in and out every three months, nothing is stable or concrete which is not good for progress or success." Obasi is the only Nigerian to have appeared in all Fifa World Cups [Under 17, Under 20 and Senior] as well as Olympics games. |

Genk striker Marvin Ogunjimi scored both goals as Belgium won 2-0 against 10-man Kazakhstan in Astana. Belgium had gone into the game looking for their first win in their third Group A fixture of the Euro 2012 qualifying campaign. Ogunjimi came off the bench for the second half and scored his first goal after 52 minutes, tucking the ball home from a tight angle, before the home side had a player sent off. Alexander Kislitsin was dismissed after 68 minutes when he picked up a second booking. Ogunjimi made sure of all three points for Belgium when he netted his second goal with 20 minutes remaining, firing in from close range after Jelle Vossen's shot was saved. |

The greatest Ye-king of goals, i read the article on punch yesterday i was like what is really happening to him, well i think maybe he's disturbed having learn't his marriage crashed so to say, overall he is a quiet type and also a cheerful giver so i don't think his giving attitude should be related to being mentally imbalanced.Well for me i think he should come out of his shelf and contribute his own quota to the development of football in our dear country, we need people like him in the glass house. |
