wellsaid:Thanks but I prefer the surface |
kart042000:From your explanation, the fishes have bacteria infection. The water you are using is the problem. What you should do is to drain the water to 1/4 of the pond and get aquaceril. Empty one pack and leave for 24 hrs. Afterwards drain the water and add another and leave for another 24hrs, slowly introduce feed, not too much. One the third day add another but make the pond water at half tank. Lemme know how it goes. Please don't use formalin. It is too strong and will most definitely kill the fish. I'm talking from experience. Drain and refill water in the afternoons only. Use borehole water |
kart042000:I suspect they have a bacteria infection. However try giving them a little floating feed to check their response. Also if you can look closely at them, observe if there are whitish colourations on their bodies or if they have white whiskers. |
Any one willing to sell new surface pro 3 should contact me on WhatsApp- 08171373772 |
veekid:I may not be able to give you an estimate now because I dont know the appliances you would use it to power. If I have that, I will be able to give you a rough estimate. |
photoshoot:Most likely the water you used is the problem. For hatching use borehole water preferably. Don't use tap or government water that contains chlorine. Also make sure you don't overfeed so that does not spoil the water quality. Lastly don't allow rain or any other water to mix with the tiny fingerlings because they are highly susceptible to temperature changes. Hope this helps |
veekid:Not at all. It does not need any maintenance of any kind if properly setup. Getting original solar panels is the tricky bit. There is nothing as frustrating at having panels that don't charge efficiently. Solar power is far cheaper in this part of the world cause you have at least 10 hours of sunlight daily. If well setup you may as well dump NEPA and go solar 100%. |
excelsiorfarm: op if a farmer does not have the resources, he can still do fish farming even without any technological input, but someone that uses an aerator is at an advantage of more healthy fishes, more time if water is extremely polluted b4 they begin to die etc. the bio filter comes in handy when there is challenge of water, drainage to say a few. As oxygen is important to fish farming, many neglect to know that the water temperature you subject your fishes to will determine their growth rateIt's advisable to use an aerator and have frequent water changes. It will help increase the field yield. You will not regret it. |
excelsiorfarm: happy sunday to u all,for those that desire to start using good technology to enhance their fishfarms, from aerator to biofilter to uv clarifier & more, pls visit swelluk.com for all your needs, for now they can send it to u from uk,It is affordable,so thats free info, but i also encourage our Nigerian people to do business with integrity,ALL D BEST.JESUS IS LORDthat's where i bought from. A biofilter is not so necessary but an aerator is an absolute must. Dissolved oxygen levels is critical to fish growth. More D.O faster growth. |
excelsiorfarm: there are different bio filters,as there is volks, there is mercedes, they have varying capacity of ponds they can service, thats why i ask if he can elaborate more & a bio filter is different from recirculatory system they make noise about,it is compact, easy to manage, good ones have warranty of as much as 2-3Years,it is recirculatory concept, but not bogus & doesntI use hozelocks biofilter and mine is for a fish density of 1500. But presently, I have just 400 fish in my pond and the biofilter struggles to make the water clean. in fact the water can't get clean cos I can't run it 24/7. Also u need high loads of beneficial bateria (aerobic) in the pond on order to metabolize fish wastes (ammonia) into nitrates. Without adequate oxygen in the pond, the biofilter will not work well. An aerator is an absolute must if u are to use a biofilter and they both must be on 24/7. |
robonski15: I have heard of the bio filters, but I guess it may be costly and I think one needs to have a stable power supply to run the system..I use a biofilter in my farm and I have to say that to make it work efficiently, u need to keep it on 24/7.Also when u have a lot of fish in a pond, it can't make the water very clean. It will still look cloudy. To recycle water for use in ponds, u will need to pump the smelly water from the pond into a holding tank where u can use alum as coagulant and aerate the water before it can be reused. This process will take 2-3 days. It's just like having a water treatment plant in the farm. Hope this helps. If u need more info, contact me adeymorlah@gmail.com. |
Contact me on adeymorlah@gmail.com. I have a solution to the problem. bily: how do catfish farmers deal with lack of good drainage channel in a particular farm area? i have heard of digging a kind of well and using it as a drainage pit. how effective is this considering the volume of water required in catfish farming? |
How many litres is your pond capacity. IDeally you are supposed to have one fish per 4 litres of water since you don't use an aerator. To get better growth with catfish, u definately need one. Ihave been using mine for 2 yrs now and last year I made 70% return on my investment. If ure intrested I can show you how. dapix: Please i would like to see your farm and get some ideas, I have two concrete ponds and my fish are not growing well, at first i thot it was because of the sunlight but not it looks as if i over stocked the pond. I dont know if i can also invite u over, and please where can i get the blagon drug you used to wash your pond, and i also want to learn how to produce fingerlines myself, my email address: dapour03@yahoo.com |
I'm really enjoying the posts on this thread. Just like to add one or two things to all we hav said. To ensure good harvest, water quality, water temeprature and PH and dissolved oxygen is very important. Also it is advisable to keep your pond water moving all the time through recirculation. Invest money in a pond filter and an aerator, you will be really glad you did. |
