Sodiq33: The Academic Staff Union of Nigerian
Universities (ASUU) has officially
suspended it five months old
industrial action action starting from
today.
The union took the decision after a
marathon meeting in Minna, Niger
State.
The decision to end the protracted
industrial action was taken after ASUU
signed a new agreement with the
federal government on December 11
2013.
ASUU President, Dr. Nasir Fagge told
Saharareporters shortly before
commencing a press conference in
Minna that ASUU has concluded its
National Executive Council meeting
and accordingly decided to suspend
the strike.

Fynestboi: ASUU Stronghold, OAU Resumes Sunday

Authorities of Obafemi Awolowo Unibversity, Ile-Ife has directed its students to resume on Sunday.This was contained in a statement by the Public Relations Officer of
OAU, Mr. Biodun Olarewaju on Wednesday.
He noted that lectures would commence immediately after the resumption. Students of the university narrowly escaped not completing their Harmattan Semester exams when the strike began in July. It was gathered that the university was lagging a semester compared to
other federal universities in the country.
The statement read, “The authorities of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, have announced Sunday, 8th December, 2013 as the resumption date for the 2012/ 2013 rain semester.
“Accordingly, students of the university are expected to come into residence on the above date as lectures will commence immediately.”

Abuja - The Federal Government on
Monday extended the deadline for
striking university lecturers to resume
work to December 9.
The government had earlier ordered the
striking members of the Academic Staff
Union of Universities (ASUU) to resume
work on December 4.
The Executive Secretary of the National
Universities Commission (NUC), Prof.
Julius Okojie, announced the new date
while addressing journalists in Abuja on
Tuesday.......................................He said any lecturer who resumed work
after the expiration of the new deadline
would not have his or her salary arrears
paid.
Okojie said government, as employer of
labour, could not fold its arms while the
institutions remained shut at the
detriment of students.
