The trobule with Nigerian subsdies is that they are funded from oil revenue, which, assuming no stealing and no corruption is too too limited to fund anything adequately. I mean, even when we were producing 2.3 million barrels per day back in 2012, the then government was pointing out via some officals , that the revenue was not enough.

That's why I scream on this site that our governments should consider industrialization as the basis of our economy. THAT may even provide enough money for some form of subsidy. That may even make us prosperous enough to pay some form of subsides without it hurting us

But no government has been willing to make the hard choices since 1960 to make us that nation, which is why you and I are even having this discussion.



The scary thing is that 500 billion naira to pay for subsides...may not be enough for one month's worth of subsidy payments.

Subsidy costs for october 2023-feb 2024 were between 800-900 billion naira, and that was at 300 naira per liter. Now? A month's subsidy would cost around 1.5 or more trillion naira.

What you are calling for is a drop in the ocean of what is actually needed...

And that's assuming that the subsides you want would bring down prices to just N800 or less.

Subsidy is not rocket science….its the right of a citizens of any nation because its the only way the common wealth can truly get to everyone…

If the govt pays 500billion to subsidize and it feels it cannot afford to pay that amount, the govt can pay lesser and push some of the burden on the people… but not paying any subsidy is robbery….

How can a father complain his child tuition, health care, cost of feeding, etc is too much that he cannot be borrowing pay… then. instead of looking for something lesser he can afford he decides no stop paying all together and use the money to marry wives and do owambę party…. Does that make any sense to you??

The results says the electorate doesn't want you, but you want to come in through another means.
If he rig, snatch ballot boxes etc, that would be an election matter and the tribunal can declare his votes invalid.
The rule is you should occupied the position that the people voted you into.
Remember what happened in Bayelsa years back where a governor elect was disqualified because the deputy governor elect has changed names multiple times, and a person not elected was imposed as governor on the state. In such situations, let's not allow the person to contest in the first place only to disqualify him after he has won.
Such system is cheating the people.

In the post election petition, it's only the party or candidates that have the constitutional right to sue an elected candidates, why wait till election has been conducted and winner declared before raising the issue of certificate forgery, such a politician is even as morally corrupt as the offender. Disqualify him before the process starts. Commonsense. It's not a company, it's a democracy with its own constitutional laws. Even in your illustration, you can't just sack people on contract except it is clearly stated and agreed by both parties. The law doesn't work like that in many places. Do your due diligence. Law has process, not jungle justice.
