Ask anyone conversant with Ilupeju and enquire about who the best tenants are always willing to pay above average rent so they can be close to their factories in Matori,Ilupeju and Oshodi.Do people ever wonder what these people are doing here,while we keep complaining about Naija?

All good points raised here. I have been living abroad for over a decade now and have no regrets. I came to the US as a student , I currently work and live in Houston and the career progression I have had are because I took that smart decision to leave naija over a decade ago.

I am an "aunty" to my niece and nephew though....but you guys in Nigeria call women "elderly" by 35...and having spirit spouses if not married by 30..lol.

Anyhow, are you kidding about watching the Nigerian movies to get a better feel for Nigeria?
I mean...my dad has a huge collection of over 500 movies that we (his children ) have purchased for him...and although I've watched about 15 or so total....I don't think I should rely on that as my measuring stick.
I'm not fond of the ones that have lots of "juju", "witchcraft", "spirit spouses", "laying curses on people", and such etc.
I am learning some things though....looking at the cities, villages, food, family, daily life etc.
But I have noticed that many of the movies I've seen, show the importance of marriage (very early), having kids, extended family, and making money!
That may not be the plot of the movies...but it's always in the background somewhere.
Lots of the movies focus on the village people leaving the village to go to the city (for a better life)....and many focus on going to "America"!

I like the way I'm learning about Nigeria......until I visit there...which is the best way to learn about the culture. I would need to be in the midst of the people and live daily....

Sir....I am a Black-American/Nigerian ......(late mom was black American and my dad is a full-fledged Igbo man). I am an African-American in the truest sense of the word. I have a right to "dual-citizenship".
I, however, was born, raised and living in the U.S.
I associate with the American culture because that is what I have lived in my entire 40 yrs. of life....
My dad has told me some things...but I still need to learn much more.
So that's why I'm here.....and I have every right to be
I have stated many times since I joined N.L. originally in December 2016 (under my old monikers).....that I stumbled on this site through a google search on "Nigeria". I am the former "MsNgo40".....just in case people don't know.

I am on this site because:
1). I want to learn more about Nigeria....my other half...the 50 percent of my genes.....from my dad...my Nigerian blood.

Even if I didn't have a direct descent to Nigeria through my dad....I still may have ventured on this site and decided to want to know more about this particular country...which is something that Nigerians should want Black Americans to do.

You have said some things about the U.S......that I find troubling...but let me not de-rail the thread.
So great....let's learn.

My friend what you said is not totally true. Northerns are equally migrating. If you go to the gulf, middle east and Oriental nations most of the migrants there from Nigeria are from the north. While southerners move towards the western world, Northerns are migrating to the Muslim nations

As much as I appreciate this op, my take is, if we all run away from our own Land. For who exactly are we leaving it for? And from whom exactly are we running and to whose house are we all running to? Mind you, the abokis are all over Lagos now (lekki,ikoyi,gra Ikeja) etc living Large giving birth to plenty children, populating the land from which the owners have absconded. Don't we all think its highest time we stand up to take our land back instead of being Coward by running? If not for us but for the next generation....

You have every right to your opinion but should defend or back it up with logic and indices otherwise such opinion can be rightly considered as being moronic. In what areas is Nigerians development worthy to be considered a developing nation? Someone or a microscopic few doing well or badly is not a sensible proof or metric of the country's development.

As I mentioned earlier, you need to be myopic and selfish to live in Nigeria successfully. If someone claims to have government generated power supply 24/7, does his claim reflect the position of majority of Nigerians? I live in Abuja and I can say on average, power supply in my home lasts for 6 hours a day. Currently, it is raining and there is no light. Oh yes, I have to pray fervently for no rain because it means no light. But then, what would the subsistence farmer rely on for his water supply if my prayer is answered? In effect, I supply my own power through my noisy and unhealthy generator more than I receive from AEDC.

My office is at the city center and yes, you would think we would have 24/7 power supply. Well, unfortunately, we have to run those generators almost 24/7.

Look around you before you say Nigeria is developing. Maybe visit the villages too. No good roads, no power supply, no water supply, no healthcare. When will all these infrastructure be provided? It is easy to sit in my office and say there is so much job opportunities for Nigerian youths when there are recorded statistics to the contrary.

1) Do u have any regrets relocating to Canada?

2) I read the post of this blogger the other day and she was blabbing about how Nigerians goto suffer in Canada and struggle for jobs with refugees from Sudan, Iraq and d likes...How true is this?

3) Does it make sense for someone earning around 250k monthly in naija to consider relocating to Canada for better standard of living?

The other day, you said all of us didn’t have $500 in our account and so we cannot afford flight ticket to come to Nigeria.
