lagonovo: Ok, let's think deeply. I think I have a very good global indicator for what you are trying to portray with mere feeling and not actual facts. It's called Life Expectancy.
The indicator often measured as "life expectancy at birth", represents the average number of years a newborn is expected to live, assuming current mortality rates remain constant throughout their life. This metric is widely used to assess the overall health and quality of life in different countries.
You can explore it and other relevant data by country on this WHO link: https://data.who.int/countries/
This will help you understand what we are telling you using available data instead of feelings and assumptions. okay. I get you well. You have spoken like a scholar. The life expectancy you’re trying to say here now is that africa is being faced with challenges in relation to that right? But, analysis from first hand experience, those who have been abroad and then falls back to Africa do usually have a changed mindset, deeper insight, wider scope and problem solving skills. To travel is good. But both places on residential grounds has their merits and demerits that can not be over emphasized. |

Angelfrost: Great points...However, what you stated clearly underscores why there is a welfare state in Nigeria and a clearly unsustainable trajectory for the leaders and citizens.
1. A country where people can afford necessities even without jobs is either a wealthy nation subsidising for her citizens or a poor nation taking loans to mask realities. We both know where Nigeria belongs.
2. If Tinubu has the boldness and unfailing ruthlessness to push this nation out of stagnacy and daydreaming, depression and suicide will skyrocket... Poverty will be off the roof.
3. Read up the meaning of "Black Tax", and understand why many are not truly living in Nigeria... A lot of people are just one bereavement away from becoming homeless and beggars. Living at the mercy and generosity of families, friends and even strangers is not the way to live as individuals and as a people.
4. Where are the jobs in Nigeria?!! Who is creating them?!! What industries and investments are springing up?!! The last time we had major investments was under Jonathan... Most of them have even shut down and left.
If nothing drastic is done in this nation in terms of the economy, things might get perilous.
Now, the above might not apply to you if you are lucky to be gainfully employed (the numbers are shrinking by the day)... But don't kid yourself! Your standard of living shrinks with each spike in living cost as we have been experiencing for years now.
Some of the people doing japa have looked into the nation's future and the uncertainty they saw made them decide to take a chance. well said. But we must not all put our burden on the government. The I must go to the university syndrome has ruined many lives including me speaking. Handwork is the way to go home and abroad. I mean skills! But due to pride and competition amongst peer groups including envy and jealousy has reduce everyone to be dependent on govt. related jobs after graduation. Self independence pays home and abroad equally. Africa has damn untold privileges that are priceless. Beat traffic abroad, one will be made to pay a fine that will make you to park the car for good. Another tinge of example! |

DyshApp: A lady shares her disappointing experience of selling her property to relocate abroad for a better job.
The lady posted a video on TikTok showing how she quit her banking job in Ghana and sold all her belongings to move abroad for a better job offer.
According to her, after resigning from her banking job, she sold her properties after a travel agent promised her a COS for an MC in the UK.
She emptied her savings and handed the money to the agent who was helping her get a Certificate of Sponsorship (COS) to enable her work in the UK but realized she was deceived by the agent who got her a cleaning job instead.
She made the post on Ghana’s independence day and stated that the leaders should work for the betterment of their country so young people would not make hasty decisions to move abroad only to regret it later.
In her words;
“I quit my banking job in Ghana, sold my properties, handed my entire savings to an agent who promised me a COS for an MC job in the UK, only to realise on arrival it was a 5-year Morning cleaner(MC) job contract. What should I do?” as long as it still equates with your salary back home thank God at least. |
