I wouldnt want to link up my server to the web. using dial up, and cant risk all other work on my system. I could try and convert it to Access and upload or look for free MSDE hosting |
Microsoft seems to be in trouble. They have two major sources of income - Windows and Office. Windows still seems stable ( ![]() ![]() ?though bug ridden![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ?) and doesnt seem to have any much competition for now. But Office is having serious competition like ThinkFree, BackPack, HipCal, OpenOffice and other applications links on this thread. That aside, if SharpDeveloper gains ground with the Mono project, I think the same type of attack on Office will be launched against Visual Studio. Because, why would I pay $$$$ for software with has a free alternative. Support? Use Google |
Lotuken:I would love to, but I just have this funny feeling I will make it big in 9ja. Invite me though, just might come for vacation. Nah, dont think I would. |
@charlie - i'm not beefing against js, i love js even though i cant really write it. without JS, AJAX is nothing, but AJAX is not dependent of the "powers" of JAVA. Javascript is the future, JAVA just isnt. |
I posted an example of an application i did on this thread. I primarily use VB and ASP. Working on .NET platform. View this thread |
Public hosting, if I can get free MSSQL Hosting |
i am not denying their existence, but usually there has to be some form of code re-writing by the code author to ensure it works. i visit sourceforge regularly but still very disappointed in the java apps i see there. i have to download a 130mb SDK just to run the program. just cant be convinced about java. |
Some links I thought might be interesting thinkfree ThinkFree Office is a suite of Microsoft® Office-compatible applications, which includes word processing, spreadsheet, presentation graphics and file management software that all look, feel and behave just like Microsoft® Office. Additionally, ThinkFree Office is delivered and upgraded over the Internet, giving users an unprecedented level of computing choice and freedom writeboard hipcal a wonderful calendar application. Must try it out. British High Commission Someone sent me this link, saying I should apply for some sort of visa. Guys who want to travel out, try the link. As for me, I still want to remain fully in Nigeria for a long time. Haba, I havent made my money yet! Open Source Open Source competition to Microsoft Office, nice idea but bad interface. Still prefer office though! |
I feel sad when Technology is murdered in cold blood. Not like they cant do it, at least it was their project but what I feel they should have made it open source. So that other people can develop on the technology. http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1558,1916249,00.asp?kc=ETRSS02129TX1K0000532

http://www.nextengine.com have developed a $2500 3D scanner that can scan 3D objects. Finally I can get a chance to have a 3D model of the girls on Nairaland on my PC. I wonder how the results would be like. Imagine the uses: games, gis, virtual tours, ........ |
A recent article, http://www.engadget.com/2006/01/31/artificial-gills-extract-oxygen-from-water/ talks about an invention by a ?mad scientist? that can exract oxygen from water. Imagine: get a big device, then go build your house under the river Niger. No hassle from Area Boys, Theives, and the likes. I am sure land under-the-sea must be extremely cheap!!!! |
I read an article about the possibilities of .NET going Open Source. Is Microsoft crazy? No. Definitely NOT! The .NET Miracle (for developers) = Framework + IDE Framework: Microsoft has made their framework free for download somewhere on their site. Linux Developers have made a imitation framework http://www.mono-project.org which imitates the .NET framework and runs on Linux as well as Windows. IDE: Microsoft definitely (at least not in the nearest future) make their IDE free or open source, therefore Linux gurus have come up with an Open Source IDe that compiles with both the .NET framework and Mono framework. www.icsharpcode.net/OpenSource/SD/Default.aspx. Comments on what MS will do next? |
I read a comment in a post about Java. I didn't read it completely because I am STRONGLY anti-Java. As far as I am concerned, JAVA has failed. It started with a hype - Write Once, Run Anywhere. Has anyone done that? I don't think so. One good thing, JAVa opened our eyes to a concept which was right under our noses: use a platform specific engine while the high level language can be written in well - high level. The code is translated to a intermediate form which is run. .NET from Microsoft uses the same principle, so is RunRev (from http://runrev.com). A friend of mine wanted to convert me to Java, giving me theory, history and other .... I stopped withone simple question "Which JAVA program have you written that runs on Windows (all variants), Linux, Unix, Mac, Solaris, OS2, Symbian, Palm" Java programmers in the house, eat my head off. (More on this on my blog) |

Remove the memory card 2. Hard Format the phone a. Make sure you have full battery b. Switch off c. Press Green+*+3 while switching on 3. Use your card in the card reader on your PC 4. Navigate to system folder, and search for possible virus (cant give you much info because of numerous viruses out there, but you can google it up). Hope it helps. |

After approval, they take it to thebudget office. To Request Funds ******************************* A request for budget release is made to the budget office. The Director General checks it out, if the request is valid, approves and sends a release warrant to the accountant general The AG then releases the funds Other functions in between Dir Gen, Dir Budget, Sector Heads, Gov, Comm, Perm Sec... |

In case the articles goes off the web, i am "photocopying" it here: ****************************************************************** INEC registers new parties • Keeps MRDD’s application in view Musikilu Mojeed The Independent National Electoral Commission has registered two new political parties. This brings to 32 the number of political parties in the country. The INEC Chairman, Prof. Maurice Iwu, who confirmed the registration of the two parties in Abuja on Tuesday when the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, paid him a courtesy visit, also said the commission was in the process of registering two more parties. Iwu said the two new parties were the Advanced Congress of Democrats and the Action Peoples Congress. It was learnt that a former member of the House of Representatives, Chief Alex Anielo, is one of the facilitators of the ACD. INEC, Iwu said, was still processing the registration of the Movement for the Restoration and Defence of Democracy and the Pastor Chris Okotie-led FRESH. He said the commission had also approved the change in the names of the National Mass Movement of Nigeria and the Party for Social Democracy. The two groups are now to be known as the Action Alliance and the Labour Party. Iwu, who disclosed that his commission also received some frivolous applications for registration, said INEC was prepared to register all groups that meet its requirements. He added, “Political parties registration is not a number game. All we are interested in is the quality of the political parties themselves. We encourage groups to come together and formalise their existence. “There is no truth whatsoever in the insinuation in some sections of the media that we do not want to register some parties. Why won’t we want to register them when we know that some parties would come together and form new ones? That is part of the system.” He said INEC received MRDD’s application on Monday contrary to claims by some members of the group that the commission was reluctant in registering the association. Earlier, Oshiomhole had charged Iwu to reposition INEC in the minds of Nigerians and the international community by conducting a free and fair election in 2007. Arguing that a fraud-free poll was possible in the country if the electoral empire was committed to the task, the labour leader urged INEC to emulate the Palestinians who, despite being at war with Israel, were able to conduct a transparent election. He promised that organised labour was ready to partner with the commission in the task of maintaining the sanctity of the ballot box and putting election riggers out of business. On the controversial electronic voting system that INEC said it had endorsed for the 2007 polls, Oshiomhole said, “The challenge before Nigeria is to have an INEC leadership that appreciates that the electoral system must be transparent. What is important is for INEC to take measures to educate Nigerians on the difference between the electronic system and the manual system that we are used to and address the fears of Nigerians that the electronic system will lead to more efficient rigging. “My position is that whatever system we are going to use will only work if the leadership of INEC is committed to free and fair elections. Nigerians are determined that election riggers must be put out of business. The method we use for the election is important. But even more important is the integrity of the process and the determination of INEC’s leadership to break with the past.” The PUNCH, Wednesday, February 01, 2006 ***************************************************************************** |
The Punch today reports the registration of new political parties, with INEC keeping MRDD's application in view. I may not be a great politics analysts (not an analyst at all) but isnt MRDD Atiku's party? Analysts in the house, do you have something to say? |
