You are welcome. all fruits have their own time and seasons, lol. you may not see mangoes during summer, but you will always see Bananas and other kinds of vegetables. until yo come, we will know what selection will be best for you lol.
MZLady39:
No....I live in the U.S.
In the U.S, the fruits that have a better taste to me are the organic ones (free of pesticides).
Thanks for the info...mangoes, blueberries and bananas are my dad's favorites...he's Nigerian.
When I visit, I was wanting to know what fruits & vegetables I would be choosing from. The weather is pretty much the same year round there (I'm guessing) so regardless of which time I come, I guess I'll be able to have the desired fruits/vegetables.

Well, during the rainy season, there ar particular kinds of fruits especially in Nigeria, like Mango, Corn, Pineapple, More Bananas. During this period,
more vegetables are said to be very fresh and good looking. I don't know much about Carribean but here in Nigeria, fruits rank high in freshness and taste. Do you reside in that part of the world?
MZLady39:
Thanks....i've been on the health track for a few years now. Still not there quite yet....but striving.
I'm interested in Nigeria's fruits & vegetables..because that's what I'm into eating more of (of course with rice or potatoes)....
Like what fruits & vegetables thrive in the climate?
Is it like the Carribean where their fruits rank high in freshness and taste? Their climate must be a lot like Nigeria's perhaps?

Wow! I love the way you explained the best way to make it more nutritious.
This is what Nigerians have been missing for so long.
MZLady39:
So so true...they are very healthy.
I'm not a fan of dates....don't care for the sweetness & their look...but they can be put through a juicer and blended into what's called "date butter".
First make sure the dates are pitted....meaning no seeds.
Cut them in half, add 1 cup dates to 2 cups water in a pot and simmer on medium low heat ...until the water cooks out. You can put up to 5 cups of dates in a pot (depending on size of pot). After simmering, the dates will become smooth and need to be warm before spooning them into and running them through the juicer. Store the "butter" in mason jars. It can be frozen also. It keeps fresh in the fridge up to two weeks.
"Date butter" can be used as a spread on toast/bread and also in place of white sugar in any baking recipe.

FamilyDo You Know You Can Transmit HIV Ignorantly To Family And Friends? by Afriglobalmedia(op): 10:28am On May 18, 2017
What is your HIV status?

When last did you or your family test for HIV?
Do you know the implication of being HIV positive with or without your family knowing?

Did you know you can transmit HIV ignorantly to your family and friends?

Find out more about HIV on this World Aids Vaccine Day

AIDS stands for acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. AIDS is not a virus but a set of symptoms (or syndrome) caused by the HIV virus.

A person is said to have AIDS when their immune system is too weak to fight off infection, and they develop certain defining symptoms and illnesses. This is the last stage of HIV, when the infection is very advanced, and if left untreated will lead to death.

How is HIV Transmitted?
Having sex with an infected person who is not on treatment and has a detectable viral load.
Sharing a needle with someone who's infected
Being born when their mother is infected, or a child drinking the breast milk of an infected mother
Getting a transfusion of infected blood

Prevention of HIV
1. Abstain from sexual activity or be in a long-term mutually monogamous relationship with an uninfected partner.

2. Limit your number of sex partners. The fewer partners you have, the less likely you are to encounter someone who is infected with HIV or another STD.

3. Correct and consistent condom use. Latex condoms are highly effective at preventing transmission of HIV and some other sexually transmitted diseases. “Natural” or lambskin condoms do not provide sufficient protection against HIV infection.

4. Get tested and treated for STDs and insist that your partners do too.

HealthFind Out How To Live A Hypertension Free Life by Afriglobalmedia(op): 11:25am On May 17, 2017
Hypertension: This is a state of abnormally high blood pressure, and great psychological stress Hypertension which is also known as high blood pressure (HBP), is a long-term medical condition in which the blood pressure in the arteries is persistently elevated.

Temporary high blood pressure usually does not cause any symptoms. Long-term high blood pressure, however, is a major risk factor for coronary artery disease, stroke, heart failure, peripheral vascular disease, vision loss, and chronic kidney disease.

Symptoms of hypertension

1. An enlarged or weakened heart, which may fail to pump enough blood and eventually results in heart failure.

2. Aneurysm - an abnormal bulge in the wall of an artery which can burst, causing severe bleeding and leads to death in some cases

3. Blood vessel narrowing in the kidneys can result in kidney failure in the heart, brain, and legs, this can lead to a heart attack, stroke or the need for amputation.

4. The blood vessels in the eyes might rupture or bleed, leading to vision problems or blindness.

Diagnosis for Hypertension

Hypertension is diagnosed on the basis of a persistently high resting blood pressure

At Afriglobal Medicare, we attempt to identify the underlying cause based on risk factors and other symptoms that follow high blood pressure.

Secondary hypertension develops more rapidly and often results in higher blood pressure than primary hypertension. It may develop due to certain prescription and over-the-counter medications, some congenital heart defects, illicit drug use, abnormalities of the kidneys and adrenal gland tumors

While Primary or essential hypertension is pervasive across all races and both genders, While treatable, primary hypertension is not curable, and the goal of treatment is to prevent the key consequences of elevated BP such as kidney disease, stroke or myocardial infarction.

Laboratory tests can also be performed to identify possible causes of secondary hypertension and to determine whether hypertension has caused damage to the heart, eyes, and kidneys.

To prevent hypertension

1. Maintain a healthy weight: When it comes to hypertension prevention, your weight is crucial to your overall health. People who are overweight should try to lose weight, and people of normal weight should avoid adding on more pounds. Maintain normal BMI of 18 - 24.9kg/m2

2. Eat a balanced diet: Eating healthful foods can help keep your blood pressure under control. Get plenty of fruits and vegetables, especially those rich in potassium, and limit your intake of excess calories, fat, and sugar

3. Cut back on salt. For many people, eating a low-sodium diet can help keep blood pressure normal. The higher the sodium intake, the higher the blood pressure,"

4. Exercise regularly. Physical activity is crucial, the more exercise you get, the better, but even a little bit can help control blood pressure. Moderate exercise for about 30 minutes three times a week is a good start.

5. Monitor your blood pressure: High blood pressure often occurs with no symptoms so only blood pressure readings will tell you if your blood pressure is on the rise. Maintain a normal blood pressure which is less than or equals 120/80mmHg. But For a hypertensive on medication, your target BP should be less than or equals 130/80mmHg.

Health6 Reasons Why You Should Never Eat Junk Food by Afriglobalmedia(op): 2:21pm On May 16, 2017
This knowledge has caused large numbers of people to avoid non-organic, chemicalized foods and focus on purchasing organic foods.

The chemicals currently being used on many non-organic foods we eat are exceptionally toxic to humans and can build up in the human body contributing significantly to the disease that can contribute to lowering your immune system.

1. Digestive problems: junk food irritates your stomach

The oil soaked in junk food gets deposited on the walls of the stomach lining and increases acid production while Spices used in the preparation of junk foods irritates the stomach worsening digestion.

2. Kidney disease:

The reason why you can never say no to fries and chips is because they contain high amount of finely processed salt which increases salivation and secretion of enzymes that enhance your cravings for these foods, however, it is dangerous to health Since the kidney have to filter all the toxins from the blood, eating a lot of junk food has a direct effect on the kidney functioning

3. Junk food can lead to heart problems

Junk food items are high in saturated fats and Trans fats that directly increase and bad cholesterol (LDL) levels in the blood, which leads to plaque formation and heart disease.

4. Junk food can cause you fatigues or weakness: Junk food can lower your energy levels to an extent that it may become difficult for you to even perform your daily tasks because it lacks most of the essential nutrients like proteins and vitamins required for maintenance of overall health

5. Junk food can lead to obesity which is a risk factor for Type 2 diabetes: One of the top risk factors for developing type 2 diabetes is being overweight. Eating junk food can contribute to weight gain, this makes it more difficult for people with diabetes to regulate blood sugar levels thereby leading to obesity.

6. Junk food slows down your brain
: Recent research suggests that bad fats (Trans fats) from junk food tends to replace healthy fats in the brain and interferes with its normal signaling mechanism. Studies in animals have also shown that fats from junk food slow down the ability to learn new skills.

HealthSay No To Stroke! by Afriglobalmedia(op): 11:22am On May 10, 2017
A stroke which is also called cerebrovascular accident or brain attack occurs when part of the brain loses its blood supply and stops working which causes the part of the body that the injured brain controls to stop working.

The types of strokes include:

Ischemic stroke this is where a part of the brain loses blood flow

Hemorrhagic stroke: This is when bleeding occurs within the brain

Transient ischemic attack: This is a warning sign that a stroke may occur in the near future.

Causes of strokes

The main causes of stroke are ischemia (loss of blood supply) or hemorrhage (bleeding) in the brain occurs.

Who is at risk of stroke?

1. People at risk for stroke include those with uncontrolled or poorly controlled high blood pressure

2. Those with unhealthy levels of cholesterol

3. Diabetic patients

4. Smokers of tobacco

5. Those with cases of Atrial fibrillation

Things to do to prevent stroke from occurring

1. Maintain a blood pressure of less than 130/80mmHg by avoiding too much salt intake, avoid cholesterol foods, eat more fruits and exercise often

2. Treat diabetes at early stage, quit smoking and drink in moderation if you must take alcohol

HealthWatch Out For Thalassemia by Afriglobalmedia(op): 1:41pm On May 09, 2017
Thalassemia is an inherited blood disorder in which the body makes an abnormal form of haemoglobin. Haemoglobin is the protein molecule in red blood cells that carries oxygen. The disorder results in excessive destruction of red blood cells, which leads to anaemia

How do you know you have Thalassemia?

1. Anaemia or low levels of Haemoglobin: Almost everyone with thalassemia major or other serious types will develop anaemia, which can be life-threatening in severe cases.

2. Excess iron levels: you will know you have excess iron levels when you notice an irregular heartbeat or heart failure, delayed puberty and diabetes.

3. Reduced fertility – some people with thalassemia may need fertility treatment to help them have children

4. Delayed growth during childhood, small stones in the gallbladder- which can cause inflammation of the gallbladder abdominal pain

How we diagnose Thalassemia

A Complete blood count: Having a CBC with us will help us Measure the amount of haemoglobin and the different kinds of blood cells, such as red blood cells since people who have thalassemia have fewer healthy red blood cells and less haemoglobin than normal in their blood.

For children: Moderate and severe thalassemias: Bringing your child to Afriglobal Medicare within the first 2 years of life will help us diagnose thalassemia. This is because of signs and symptoms, including severe anaemia, often occur within the first 2 years of life.

For older people: Milder thalassemia: People who have milder forms of thalassemia might be diagnosed after a routine blood test shows they have anaemia.

Iron deficiency test: we also test the amount of iron in the blood to find out whether the anaemia is due to iron deficiency or thalassemia. Iron-deficiency anaemia occurs if the body doesn't have enough iron to make haemoglobin.

Thalassemia is passed from parents to children through genes, family genetic studies also can help diagnose the disorder, which involves taking a family medical history and doing blood tests on family members. The tests will show whether any family members have missing or altered haemoglobin genes.

If you know of family members who have thalassemia and you're thinking of having children, consider talking with your doctor and a genetic counsellor. They can help determine your risk of passing the disorder to your children.

HealthAmazing Benefits Of Exercise. by Afriglobalmedia(op): 11:25am On May 05, 2017
Take some time off to exercise your body this weekend and see the changes before next week.
Here are the amazing benefits of exercise.

1. Exercise is great for your brain.
It's linked to less depression, better memory and quicker learning. Studies also suggest that exercise is, as of now, the best way to prevent or delay the onset of Alzheimer’s disease.
Scientists don’t know exactly why exercise changes the structure and function of the brain, but it’s an area of active research. So far, they’ve found that exercise improves blood flow to the brain, feeding the growth of new blood vessels and even new brain cells.

2. It might make you age slower.
Exercise has been shown to lengthen lifespan by as much as five years. A small new study suggests that moderate-intensity exercise may slow down the aging of cells. As humans get older and their cells divide over and over again, their telomeres—the protective caps on the end of chromosomes—get shorter.

3. It’ll make your skin look better.
Aerobic exercise revs up blood flow to the skin, delivering oxygen and nutrients that improve skin health and even help wounds heal faster. That’s why when people have injuries, they should get moving as quickly as possible, not only to make sure the muscle doesn't atrophy, but to make sure there's good blood flow to the skin.

4. It can help you recover from a major illness.
Even very vigorous exercise like the interval workouts is appropriate for people with different chronic conditions, from Type 2 diabetes to heart failure

5. Your fat cells will shrink.
The body uses both carbohydrates and fats as energy sources. But after consistent aerobic exercise training, the body gets better at burning fat, which requires a lot of oxygen to convert it into energy.

Other benefits of exercise includes

6. Reduces cardiovascular risk

Exercise helps reduce body weight, blood pressure, bad cholesterol, Increase in good cholesterol, Increase in insulin sensitivity
Finally, exercise helps to improve sleep and sleep pattern and increases self confidence

What is Sonography?

You know when you are having pain, swellings and other symptom in your body and your doctor needs to view your internal organs to find out what the issue is? That is Sonography!!

Sonography is a non-invasive medical procedure that uses the echoes of high frequency sound waves (ultrasound) to construct an image (sonogram) of internal organs or body structures.

Your doctor may order an ultrasound if you are having pain, swelling, or other symptoms that require an internal view of your organs. An ultrasound can provide a view of the:

1. Abdominal organs (including liver, gallbladder, kidney)
2. Obstetrics (pregnancy)
3. Superficial structures (including breast, testis, thyroid)
4. Abdominal blood vessels
5. Male ultrasound such as pelvic USS (to visualize the prostate gland, bladder and the surrounding area) and testicular USS.

It therefore sees internal body structures to diagnose specific health issues.

At Afriglobal Medicare we can also use this Sonography machine to diagnose specific ailments which will lead to treatment of medical conditions in the abdomen, breast, heart and blood vessels, bladder, brain (in infants), eyes, gallbladder, kidneys, liver, ovaries, spleen, thyroid, testicles blood vessels. more recently, in diagnosing and treating musculoskeletal problems.

HealthHow Healthy Is Your Adam's Apple? Find Out More. by Afriglobalmedia(op): 1:52pm On Apr 28, 2017
Adam's Apple (Thyroid gland)

The thyroid gland is about 2-inches long and lies in front of your throat below the prominence of thyroid cartilage sometimes called Adam's apple.

The thyroid has two sides called lobes that lie on either side of your windpipe and is usually connected by a strip of thyroid tissue known as an isthmus. Some people do not have an isthmus, and instead, have two separate thyroid lobes.

How Thyroid Gland Works
The thyroid is part of the endocrine system, which is made up of glands that produce, store, and releases hormones into the bloodstream so the hormones can reach the body's cells.
The thyroid gland uses iodine from the foods you eat to make two main hormones:
Triiodothyronine (T3)Thyroxine (T4)

It is very important that the T3 and T4 levels are neither too high nor too low.
Two glands in the brain: the hypothalamus and the pituitary communicate to maintain T3 and T4 balance.

When T3 and T4 levels are low in the blood, the pituitary gland releases more TSH to tell the thyroid gland to produce more thyroid hormones.

If T3 and T4 levels are high, the pituitary gland release
less TSH to the thyroid gland to slow production of these hormones.

Why You Need a Thyroid Gland.
T3 and T4 travel in your bloodstream to reach almost every cell in the body. The hormones regulate the speed with which the cells/metabolism work. For example, T3 and T4 regulate your heart rate and how fast your intestines process food. So if T3 and T4 levels are low, your heart rate may be slower than normal, and you may have constipation/weight gain. If T3 and T4 levels are high, you may have a rapid heart rate and diarrhoea/weight loss.

Symptoms of too muchT3 and T4 in your body known as (hyperthyroidism):
AnxietyIrritability or moodiness, Nervousness, hyperactivity, Sweating or sensitivity to high temperatures, Hand trembling (shaking) Hair loss, Missed or light menstrual periods
Symptoms of too little T3 and T4 in your body (hypothyroidism) are

Trouble sleeping, Tiredness and fatigue, Difficulty concentrating, Dry skin and hair, Depression, Sensitivity to cold temperature Frequent, heavy periods Joint and muscle pain.

If you notice any of these symptoms and discomfort, pains or stiffness of your Adam's apple.

HealthKick Malaria Out Of Your Life by Afriglobalmedia(op): 11:19am On Apr 25, 2017
A Day in the Life of Malaria

Malaria is an illness associated with high fevers, headache and vomiting, which normally caused by an infectious bite from a female mosquito (anopheles). It is a bit funny that a female mosquito is responsible for doing this harm to Nigerians which has a culture of seeing men as the greater threat rather than women. The fact that a female animal is responsible for many mosquito related deaths in Nigeria is a bit abnormal. Well, that's a topic for another day.

Once the parasites are inside your body, they travel to the liver, where they mature. After several days, the mature parasites enter the bloodstream and begin to infect red blood cells. Within 48 to 72 hours, the parasites inside the red blood cells multiply, causing the infected cells to burst open

An infected mother can also pass the disease to her baby at birth. This is known as congenital malaria. Malaria is transmitted by blood, so it can also be transmitted through:
An organ transplant, transfusion or use of shared needles and syringes
Common symptoms of Malaria
High fever, Profuse sweating, Headache, Nausea, Vomiting, Diarrhea, Anemia
Muscle pain, Convulsions, Bloody stools

How Is Malaria Diagnosed?
If you have symptoms of malaria, your doctor may order additional blood tests to confirm your diagnosis. These tests will show: whether or not you have malaria, what type of malaria you have if your infection is caused by a parasite that’s resistant to certain types of drugs if the disease has caused anaemia, and if the disease has affected your vital organs.

How to treat a patient with malaria depends on:
1. The type (species) of the infecting parasite (for example, Plasmodium falciparum)
2. The area where the infection was acquired and its drug-resistance status
3. The clinical status of the patient
4. Any accompanying illness or condition
5. Drug allergies or other medications are taken by the patient
6. Drugs that kill the parasite that causes malaria can be used to treat and prevent the disease. These drugs are called antimalarial.

However, if you contract malaria while taking one type of antimalarial drug, the same drug cannot be used to treat the infection as the parasite may be resistant to it.

Different drugs target different features of the parasite’s biology and life cycle. For example, chloroquine targets the blood stages of the life cycle whilst primaquine removes the dormant? liver stages.

Because of this, drugs are often used in combination with each other to make sure the malaria parasite is removed from all areas of the body. For example, primaquine can be used along with chloroquine to treat Plasmodium vivax.

How is Malaria prevented?
1. Take Ant-malaria drug periodically
2. Use mosquito net
3. Stay in a clean environment
4. Use insecticide
5. Use insect repellant creams

Facts about Malaria
1. Malaria was first identified in 1880 as a disease caused by parasitic infection
2. The name of the disease comes from the Italian word malaria, meaning "bad air.
3. the most common time for these mosquitoes to be active is between dusk and dawn Worldwide.
4. There were an estimated 198 million cases of malaria in 2013 and 584,000 deaths Malaria occurs mostly in poor, tropical areas of the world
5. An estimated 3.4 billion people in 106 countries and territories are at risk of malaria - nearly half of the world's population
6. Annual funding for malaria control in 2013 was three times the amount spent in 2005, yet it represented only 53% of global funding needs
7. Malaria incidence rates are estimated to have fallen by 30% globally between 2000 and 2013 while estimated mortality rates fell by 47%
8. The World Health Organization (WHO) has set out to reduce all malaria cases and deaths by 90% by 2030.

HealthDiagnose Asthma Now! by Afriglobalmedia(op): 3:12pm On Apr 21, 2017
Let's Talk about Asthma.
Are you Asthmatic or do you have any relatives or friends with Asthma? find out about Asthma and how to diagnose

Asthma is a chronic disease involving the airways in the lungs. These airways, or bronchial tubes, allow air to come in and out of the lungs.

If you have asthma your airways are always inflamed. They become even more swollen and the muscles around the airways can tighten when something triggers your symptoms. This makes it difficult for air to move in and out of the lungs, causing symptoms such as coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath and/or chest tightness.

For many asthma sufferers, the timing of these symptoms is closely related to physical activity, some healthy people can develop asthma symptoms only when exercising.

This is called exercise-induced bronchoconstriction (EIB), or exercise-induced asthma (EIA). Staying active is an important way to stay healthy, so asthma shouldn't keep you on the sidelines.

People with a family history of allergies or asthma are more prone to developing asthma. Many people with asthma also have allergies. This is known as allergic asthma.

Occupational asthma is caused by inhaling fumes, gases, dust or other potentially harmful substances while on the job.

Childhood asthma impacts millions of children and their families. In fact, the majority of children who develop asthma do so before the age of five.

There is no cure for asthma, but once it is properly diagnosed and a treatment plan is in place you will be able to manage your condition, and your quality of life will improve.

How is asthma diagnosed?
Symptoms of Asthma can resemble those of other respiratory problems such as emphysema, bronchitis, and respiratory infections, asthma often goes undiagnosed.

Many people live with the disease for years without knowing they have it. They only know they have a chronic cough, often at night, or that they have difficulty breathing in cold air, especially while working or exercising. Some think they have chronic bronchitis.

To diagnose asthma, our doctors use a combination of medical history, physical examination, and laboratory tests such as spirometry (a method of measuring the air taken into and expelled from the lungs), peak flow monitoring (a method of measuring how much air a person can expel from his or her lungs), chest x-rays, and blood or allergy tests.

HealthDid You Know Those Pains Could Be Fibroid? by Afriglobalmedia(op): 2:10pm On Apr 20, 2017
Fibroids are non-cancerous (benign) tumors that grow from the muscle layers of the uterus (womb).
They are also known as uterine fibroids, leiomyomas, or myomas. Fibroids affect at least 20 percent of all women at some point in their life.
However, women of reproductive age are the most likely to develop them. Also, overweight and obese women have a significantly higher risk of developing fibroids, compared with women of normal weight.

Four Types of Fibroids
Intramural fibroids, Subserosal fibroids, Submucosal fibroids, Cervical fibroids.

Causes of Fibroids:
During a woman's reproductive years, estrogen and progesterone levels are high. When estrogen levels are high, especially during pregnancy, fibroids tend to swell, and when estrogen levels are low, fibroids may shrink,
This especially happens during a woman's menopause.

Heredity: This may also be a factor; women whose close relatives have had fibroids have a higher risk of developing them.

Symptoms of uterine fibroids: Some women have no symptoms, but around 1 in 3 will experience symptoms, such as
Anemia (as a result of heavy periods), Backache,
Constipation,
Discomfort in the lower abdomen (especially if fibroids are large),
Frequent urination,
Heavy painful periods,
Pain in the legs,
Painful sex,
Swelling in the lower abdomen (especially if fibroids are large)

Diagnosis of Fibroids:
One of the best ways to diagnose fibroids is Ultrasound
This can detect fibroids and eliminate other possible conditions which may have similar symptoms. An ultrasound can be used over the abdomen or transvaginally (a small probe is inserted into the vagina). This may help visualize cervical and submucosal types better.

MRI - this is the best type of imaging to determine the size of fibroids and if there are multiple fibroids in the uterus.

Hysteroscopy - a small telescope to examine the inside of the uterus. During this procedure, if necessary, a biopsy (small tissue sample) can be taken of the lining of the uterus.

To reduce the risk of having fibroids, we recommend an increased intake of fruit and vegetables.
If you notice any symptoms related to the above mentioned, feel free to send us a message for an appointment. Let's help you diagnose with our state-of-the-art facilities.
You could also take advantage of our exclusive discount when you book an appointment online or through our social media platforms.

HealthWhy Complete Blood Count Test Is Necessary To Diagnose A Medical Condition by Afriglobalmedia(op): 2:46pm On Apr 18, 2017
Diagnose a medical condition with a Complet Blood Count Test

A complete blood count (CBC) is a blood test used to evaluate overall health and detect a range of disorders, including anemia, infection, and leukemia.

The CBC is a very common test. Many people have a CBC performed when they have a routine health examination. If a person is healthy and has results that are within normal limits, then that person may not require another CBC until their health status changes or until their healthcare provider feels that it is necessary.

A CBC may be ordered when a person has any number of signs and symptoms that may be related to disorders that affect blood cells. When an individual has fatigue or weakness or has an infection, inflammation, bruising, or bleeding, a health practitioner may order a CBC to help diagnose the cause and/or determine its severity.

A complete blood count test measures several components
Including:
Red blood cells: Carries oxygen
White blood cells: Fights infection
Hemoglobin: Carries protein in red blood cells
Hematocrit: The proportion of red blood cells to the fluid component, or plasma, in your blood
Platelets: Help with blood clotting

Why do we carry out a complete blood count test?

1. To diagnose a medical condition. We recommend that you should have a complete blood count if you're experiencing weakness, fatigue, fever, inflammation, bruising or bleeding.

2. A complete blood count may help diagnose the cause of some signs and symptoms. If we suspect you have an infection, the test can also help confirm that diagnosis.

3. To monitor a medical condition. If you've been diagnosed with a blood disorder that affects blood cell counts, we may use complete blood counts to monitor your condition.

4. To monitor medical treatment. A complete blood count may be used to monitor your health if you're taking medications that may affect blood cell counts.

HealthDid You Know That Hemophilia Could Be Treated ? by Afriglobalmedia(op): 3:08pm On Apr 17, 2017
Today is World Hemophilia Day

Read our short article on Hemophilia and feel free to ask us questions.

Hemophilia is an inherited condition that affects the blood's ability to clotnormally

When you cut yourself, substances in the blood known as clotting factors combine with blood cells called platelets to make the blood sticky which makes the bleeding stop eventually.

However, in hamophilia, there aren't as many clotting factors as there should be in the blood. This means that someone with the condition bleeds for longer than usual.

The condition is passed to a child by one or both of their parents.

The symptoms of haemophilia can be mild to severe, depending on the level of clotting factors you have, most cases are mild, but people with severe haemophilia experience symptoms, which require ongoing care.

People with severe haemophilia often experience internal bleeding. This usually occurs around the joints and muscles, causing pain and stiffness. It can also lead to joint damage over time.

Check attached images to know more on Hemophilia

If you experience any of the above mentioned symptoms, please don't fail to contact us immediately at our diagnostic centre: 8 Mobolaji Bank-Anthony way Ikeja, Lagos.
Let's help you find out the cause, and recommend treatment.

HealthDo You Have Irregular Heartbeat? Find Out The Cause by Afriglobalmedia(op): 3:55pm On Apr 11, 2017
Atrial fibrillation (also called AFib or AF) is an irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia) that can lead to blood clots, stroke, heart failure and other heart-related complications. At least over 10 million people live with AFib.

Although there are many symptoms of the ailment, one of the major effects of A-Fib disorder is an irregular and rapid beating of the upper chambers of the heart.

In as much as A-Fib disorder is not life-threatening, if untreated, A-fib can lead to dangerous health conditions and can weaken the heart muscle over time, which triples the risk of heart failure. The risk of dementia doubles also.
People with A-fib are around five times more likely to have a stroke than people without the condition, and strokes can lead to permanent disability or death.

Impact of Alcohol to A-Fib
There are many negative effects of alcohol on the heart associated with heavy drinking:
High blood pressure
Heart failure
Weight gain, leading to high blood pressure
Enlarged heart

Alcohol is a known trigger for a specific form of A-fib known as holiday heart syndrome (HHS).HHS is the sudden appearance of A-fib in individuals who are otherwise healthy, but who recently took part in everyday drinking.
Although, there is no scientific evidence that caffeine causes heart arrhythmias in those with a healthy heart.
Nor is there any evidence that drinking caffeinated beverages long-term will cause an arrhythmia to develop.
However, some people could be unaware that they have an arrhythmia or that they are prone to developing one based on their genetics, which is why caffeine should always be consumed in moderation.

Causes and How to avoid A-Fib
Avoid emotional stress, physical stress, and fatigue
Take more water to prevent dehydration
Sleep more and exercise daily
Avoiding beverages with added sugars
Muscle-strengthening activities at least twice a week
Reduce intake of caffeine
Contact us immediately if you notice any of these symptoms of A-Fib

HealthAre You Having The Right Amount Of Exercise To Keep Your Body Fit? by Afriglobalmedia(op): 6:28pm On Apr 07, 2017
While weekend mornings are usually reserved for exercises and workouts, a lot of people found themselves doing too much or too little exercise in a bid to keep up with a fitness routine because they don't know how much exercise they really need to do.

So, what constitutes the right amount of exercise the average person really needs? Two and half hours a week of moderate-intensity exercise is what is recommended by fitness experts. Ideally, this means 30 minutes, five times per week, of activities such as jogging, dancing, bicycle riding or swimming.

If you don't have time for five workouts per week, cramming two-and-a-half hours or 150 minutes into the weekend transfers similar health benefits to spreading out fitness across the week.

Exercise can treat depression, anxiety, and sleep disturbances. For your heart, it lowers blood pressure, cholesterol levels, the risk of heart attack and stroke. Exercise reduces the risk of inflammatory bowel disease and both prevents and treats type 2 diabetes.

So how does the average Nigerian approach the issue of exercise for good body maintenance? A combination of endurance training such as walking or swimming, flexibility training such as yoga, and strength training. Although there's no exact science, finding the correct formula usually means picking some of each of these activities that won't lead to over-exerting yourself or injury.
