I agree with the greed side 100% . I only said there are also people who are just ignorant(who are usually in the minority) and lack what it takes to know somebody promising u double of ur investment is a scammer.
Yeah, got that. You are right they are in the minority. I just felt the woman in that video does not fall into that category.

[quote author=BlueRayDick post=134994656]Afrodoc this is one of the ignorant people I was talking about. If this person had financial literacy she won't "invest" the little savings she had remaining from her hustle in Libya.

one you showed me is greed o. Talking about x 2 her money and things like that. Someone as financially illiterate as her who has no urge to magically double her money overnight would not do it. Was this woman not on earth during the recent MMM era. If you investigate deeply, the same way her neighbor advised her to do it, that is the same way some people around her would have advised her not to do it, but her greed won the day.

BlueRayDick:
You are not wrong when say greed is one of the major reasons a lot of people get sucked-in on ponzi schemes, but you also should know that greed is not the only factor.

There are different categories of people who fall for ponzi scheme. There is a particular set of people who really don't know much about anything finance and investing. For example there are Alaba boys, Idumota boys, etc that the only way of investing they know is stocking their shop with goods and selling at cost price + profit margin.

These categories of people don't know about any other form of finance and always rely on word of mouth convincing and showing them evidence of what you made from any other "investment" for them to keep some of their funds there. If they are unfortunate to have an in-law or relative that has gone to school and comes around preaching any of these ponzi schemes, they will fall and lose money when the whole thing crash.

If someone like that has little financial education, he won't fall for such.

As for those who lose their money due to greed knowing it is a ponzi scheme, those ones deserve everything they are getting
Yes, you are right that ignorance might be a factor in some cases, but in most cases, greed is the major reason. A small subset of people might be ignorant, but most people can't hide under that excuse.

How man Nigerians can still claim not knowing what Ponzi schemes look like after witnessing Umana Umana, Nospetco, MMM etc. Even an ignorant person who is not greedy would not fall victim cos it will sound too good to be true.

Greed is the essential ingredient needed to fall victim.

A lot of Nigerians come about money but they lack basic financial education.
It is not really about lack of financial education but about innate greed and predilection for flouting rules and regulations. Nigerians always believe they are too sharp and can exploit the system. That is why even those that know it is a Ponzi scheme and doomed to fail, will get involved hoping to pull profit from it and exit before the roof collapses.

Yeah, Red Cliff is the standard. John Woo na cheat mode.

My problem with Kingdom (even the original) is that it COMPLETELY distorts the historical facts. Even though the original was artistically cool i struggled to accept that mago mago.

am making a case for obi, am just saying generally. If we don't give these boys the chance how do we know if they are good enough. All am saying is that we have nothing to lose using these boys.
The academy boys train daily with the senior players. Most likely they assess them with their performances during training to know if they are ready against men. They have access to more information than us.

I am as pro-academy as they come but one thing that scares me is tossing academy players into highly dysfunctional set-ups. If the team is struggling a bit or if there is a position of need in the senior team that is still okay BUT when there is utter dysfunction i don't like tossing academy players into it.

Here's an interesting stat, since United won at the Etihad on 15th December 2024, they have beaten only one PL team[Fulham] from outside the relegation zone in 16 attempts. Only other wins vs PL opposition in that time were versus Ipswich, Soton and Leicester (x2).

6 wins out of 20, 4 of them against the 3 worst teams in the league.

we may not have cubarsi or yamal level but we good players. If you play a chido obi you will not be getting the rubbish hoijund is giving us every week. Man u have nothing to achieve this season so give this young players a chance.
It is not that straight forward. I watch every televised academy and Under-21 match. Chido Obi still has a lot to learn, and it will take only 2-3 silly mistakes from him before our toxic and illogical fans turn on him and start harassing him online and destroy his confidence.

Tossing youth players who might not be emotionally or physically ready to the senior team because the senior players are messing up is unfair to the academy player. The young players should be given a chance if the coaches and the club think they are ready not because one unfortunate senior player is crap.

It is my firm belief that overplaying Garnacho when he was not ready just because Rashy, Sancho, Martial were messing up stunted his growth and led to what is happening now.

Amorim problem is when we had lots of injuries he didn't look at the academy. Use those young fresh boys. A good coach would have discovered one or two good players from the academy that he would integrated into the main team.

Look at what flick is doing at Barca. He has integrated lots of 17 to 18 years old player into the main team. Look at what they are doing for them
True he could have done better but Barca's academy is another level, and we don't have a Cubarsi or Yamal level of talent in the academy. La Liga is also less physical which allows a youngster to assimilate a bit more easily.

His problems are poor line up, poor substitution, and difficulty transferring what was done on the training pitch to match day.

This one is purely on INEOS cos even ETH with all his shortcomings didn't want the guy and was benching him. His presence in the team has elevated our midfield in terms of technique, movement and cohesion. I dare say Fred is even better than him.
I can't really argue that he is better than Fred now although they are very different players. He is more like Herrera, but with even less ability on the ball.

What it is looking like is that the club is finished patapataly. A squad built over the years filled majorly with players that are not good enough.

Little or no more money left to repair the damage in the squad.

Then when the little money when spent is not always spent in the right way. INEOS so far have been a bit better than the previous regime cos at least it is looking like Yoro, Maz, de Ligt are players that can contribute in a winning team. Maz and de Ligt in particular have played well considering their fee. Yoro was overpriced but might turn out to be an all timer, so it is still understandable.

If INEOS are not able to hit extremely high scores in terms of recruitment of coaches and players, these lean years will not end anytime soon.

Meanwhile, we will revisit this Ugarte brother one of these days.
Passion merchant midfielders who are incompetent on the ball and treat the ball like a grenade will not cut it at this level.

I don't want to say i told you so, but..........

We bought RB Wan Bissaka for 50m and he came here to flop. We then sold him for peanuts, only to buy CM Wan Bissaka for 50m.

That's tough.

But mentality and fitness of the team falls on the coach squarely isn't it?
No. Team cohesion does. Human beings have certain immutable differences. There is nothing the coach can do that will turn Eriksen or Casemiro to peak Yaya Toure.

Our players were physically weaker and, in most instances, slower than the Newcastle players. We have bought badly over the years. We don't have a single midfield player who is a physical specimen, apart from maybe Collyer. Nearly every time Tonali or Joelinton ran with the ball we had nobody in the midfield that could match them for power and pace.

These are obvious issues that we can see and have nothing to do with the coaching. Outside Yoro, Dalot, Dorgu, De Ligt, Collyer all our players are usually physically inferior in their 1v1 matchups.

Amorim has not really impressed me in terms of his coaching so far but like i always say, let us blame him for what he is responsible for. The lineup was wrong. The positional play and passing were both poor, meaning we could not really see any consistent patterns of play. Those are mainly on the head coach and the coaching staff. We also almost always panic when defending set pieces and look clueless when we have our own set pieces.

Since its to fulfil all righteousness, why not just bring in Jack Moorehouse. For me Eriksen is leaving in the summer , he should be phased out now, except if he is specifically needed on a particular occasion to effect a gameplan
When Moorhouse gets his chance, it will be as one of the 10s not as a CM. Eriksen is not taking his place. Moorhouse will get his chance, but it must be at the right time in his development phase. I think i will trust that Amorim will phase the academy players in at the right time, for now.
