Politics › 2019: Ladi Adebutu Is PDP Governorship Candidate In Ogun State, Says PDP by afroniger(op): 6:36pm On Dec 05, 2018 |
https://www.vanguardngr.com/2018/12/2019-ladi-adebutu-is-pdp-governorship-candidate-in-ogun-state-says-pdp/ON DECEMBER 5, 20185:57 PMIN NEWS
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) clarifies that Ladi Adebutu is its candidate for the forthcoming governorship election in Ogun state.
This declaration puts to rest all controversies, uncertainties and misgivings regarding the authentic governorship candidate of the PDP in Ogun state.
Ladi Adebutu was duly elected as the PDP candidate in the primary conducted by the National Working Committee (NWC), the only body empowered to conduct such primaries, and his name and particulars have since been duly submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) by the leadership of the party.
All PDP members, supporters and the general public should, by this declaration, completely disregard, as an impostor, any other person parading himself as the PDP governorship candidate in Ogun state, as only Ladi Adebutu is our flag bearer and Governorship candidate in Ogun State.
The PDP candidate, Ladi Adebutu, has already commenced his campaigns and is widely accepted by the people of Ogun state, who have expressed their readiness to freely give him the mantle of leadership at the 2019 election.
The PDP therefore cautions all fifth columnists trying to cause confusion within its fold in Ogun state, particularly those already identified as working for the APC, to desist from such acts in the general interest.

The Op is a well known tribal bigot who relishes in attacking other tribes, especially Yoruba people, while hiding his own tribe. Now he seems to have turned his focus on Igbo people.
On to the subject matter. The conspicuous absence of SE politicians at the Sokoto rally does not speak well at all. Not even one single SE governor deemed it fit to shown up. Atiku needs to find a way to bring these SE leaders to his side before it is too late. Ebonyi, Enugu and Abia are PDP states and none of their governors could attend the rally?? |
Politics › FG Sets February Deadline For Lagos-ibadan Standard Gauge rail Line by afroniger(op): 7:29am On Dec 05, 2018 |
http://thenationonlineng.net/fed-govt-sets-february-deadline-lagos-ibadan-standard-gauge/•Amaechi insists passenger train to run by February
•Minister: robbery attacks, molestation of contractors mar project
The Federal Government yesterday set a new deadline for the completion of the Lagos-Ibadan standard gauge earlier scheduled to be delivered this month.
At the monthly routine tour of the $1.7 billion project, Transportation minister Rotimi Amaechi said the project must be completed in February, adding that the passenger train must run on the standard gauge tracks same month.
The Lagos-Ibadan standard gauge is a 156-kilometre project with 10 ultra-modern railway stations, bridges, tunnels and culverts.
Speaking after the project’s work flow assessment meeting at Adumbu town, Papalanto in Ogun State, Amaechi said all hands were on deck to ensure that the trains run on the tracks at least from Lagos to Abeokuta, if not Ibadan, by February.
“What we agreed on at this meeting is that by February, we must have a train service that makes transport sense. We would ensure that we have a situation where people can board our train from Lagos to Ibadan,” he said.
To achieve this, the minister said the assessment meetings would henceforth be held twice a month, adding that the team would meet again on December 18 to assess the implementation of assignments.
According to him, this pattern will continue until the project is delivered.
Amaechi noted that though the elements posed a major challenge earlier in the year, the earthwork and civil engineering works were almost completed.
He added: “We only have one or two bridges left in the entire project and I am very sure that by the time we are having our next meeting, this would have reduced to one, if at all there would still be any left…
“I have just been informed by the contractor that they are facing serious security challenges from armed robbers, who steal their property. I have directed that they tackle that. This is what we have not been experiencing at the Abeokuta to Ibadan end of the project. This obviously also compounds the problem and slows down the pace of work,” he said.
Amaechi said he directed that work be suspended on the stations to concentrate on the tracks because “we are convinced that once we achieve the tracks and begin to run trains on them, getting the stations in place would not be a problem”.
He debunked insinuations that campaign activities may hamper the pace of work.
The minister said his consenting to inspect the project on December 18, when the party would have kick-started its campaigns, showed the commitment of the government.
“President Muhammadu Buhari is committed to building infrastructure. That is what we are also committed to actualising. Nothing will stop this project as we are committed to having a better Nigeria,” he added. |

This is to be expected. The coming days and weeks will witness more of this sort of realignment. They stand a better chance of political survival with APC than following an unknown party and an Amosun who is about to become less relevant politically after his tenure ends. Amosun's refusal to decamp along with some of his loyalists is a clear vote of no confidence on APM. If he was so sure of himself and his supposed political wizardry, he would have decamped with them and still supported Buhari in his new party. But he knows better in spite of all his grandstanding. Amosun's only chance of realizing his senatorial ambition is under APC, if na lie why e no follow him boys decamp? How can you direct your loyalists to decamp while you choose to stay behind? What manner of selfishness is that??

The attention of the authorities of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, has been drawn to a release written by a supposed student of the University, expressing a personal opinion that the Vice President of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, was not welcome in OAU.
A release by the Public Relations Officer of the University, Abiodun Olarewaju, stated emphatically that the Council, Management, Senate, Staff, STUDENTS, and the entire Community of OAU hold the office of Vice President and the person of Professor Yemi Osinbajo in highest esteem and shall never hesitate to continue in that manner.
In fact, the OAU Community, particularly the Students, are eagerly waiting for a day when either President Muhammadu Buhari or Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, or both of them, will come to OAU on a visit. The community is ready to give a rousing welcome to the Senior Advocate of Nigeria and renowned Professor of law whose brilliant performance in the present administration has done the academic community proud.
We hereby advise the general public to disregard, in it's entirety, the release by anybody which runs contrary to the motto of the university: For Learning and Culture.
We want to use this medium to reassure the student that the present University academic calendar is on course and remains sacrosanct.
Meanwhile, the University, as approved by its Senate, has decided to award an Honorary Degree to a very distinguished Nigerian academic and radical intellectual activist, Professor Biodun Jeyifo, English Professor Emeritus at Cornell University and, currently, Professor of African and African and American Studies and of Comparative Literature at Harvard University, in the United States of America (USA) during its 43rd combined convocations. |

Politics › APC Will Form Govt In Ogun Come May 29 – Osoba by afroniger(op): 10:17pm On Dec 03, 2018 |
http://thenationonlineng.net/apc-will-form-govt-in-ogun-come-may-29-osoba/December 3, 2018 In: News, News Update
By: Ernest Nwokolo, Abeokuta
Former Governor Segun Osoba has expressed confidence that the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its governorship candidate, Prince Adedapo Abiodun, would form the government of Ogun State come May 29, 2019.
Osoba said with the good support of the APC members, supporters and caliber of the governorship candidate, Abiodun, the party would coast home with victory, enjoining party faithful not to rest on their oars.
The Akirogun of Egbaland made this known while addressing thousands of party members and supporters at his residence in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, the state capital, during the formal unveiling of Abiodun’s running mate, Mrs. Noimot Salako-Oyedele.
He assured that the next APC administration in the state would place more premium in zoning all political offices to reflect a sense of belonging to all sections, unlike what allegedly obtained today with Ibikunle Amosun’s government where a particular zone benefits more from appointments to the disadvantages of other zones.
Osoba implored all the chieftains and members of the party to work in harmony to ensure success.
He said: “Whether they like it or not Dapo Abiodun had become the Ogun State APC governorship candidate.
Those who didn’t wish APC well have been disappointed.
“The task had begun. We are in the midst of enemies and we should come together as one.
“I want to urge all that we have just started. I am 80 years old and I am old enough to say things the way they are.
“We don’t want any group within the APC. It is an insult.
“We are just going into elections period and we should stop insulting our candidate.
“From now onward, let us be one. Leaders don’t hold group meetings, but what you should be having is APC meeting as a party and it should be for the governorship candidature of Dapo Abiodun.
“Three-quarter of your poster should bear APC logo, a quarter for a candidate’s picture and another quarter for the party’s slogan.
“So, as we are moving today, disunity is over. We are fighting a vicious war and we should fight it within the purview of the APC constitution. Go and deliver your polling booths,” said Osoba.
Prominent leaders in attendance include the governorship flag bearer, Prince Dapo Abiodun, the governorship running mate, Mrs Noimot Salako-Oyedele, Senators: Biyi Durojaiye, Gbenga Kaka, Gbenga Obadara, Akin Odunsi, Dipo Odujinrin, Tunji Egbetokun, Prince Segun Adesegun among others. |

A former governor of Oyo State, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, yesterday, dumped African Democratic Congress (ADC) for Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).
Also, the name of a former Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, was on Saturday sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the party’s new gubernatorial candidate to meet the commission’s deadline for substitution of candidates’ names.
Alli, a grassroots politician, was the first elected local government chairman in Ibadan North at age 28.
A close associate of the former governor, Bimbo Adepoju, told reporters that Ladoja had instructed him to address reporters on his movement to ZLP.
Speaking on his grouse with the leaders of ADC, the former governor told Daily Trust last week that the leadership of the party was not serious about winning elections in the state.
He said the ADC leadership was not magnanimous about sharing of positions, pointing out that the people of Oke Ogun and Ibarapa zone would feel cheated with the current arrangement in the party. |
