Investment / Re: Dollar Crunch Turns Nigerian Banks Into Africa’s Cheapest Stocks - Bloomberg by afroxyz: 1:47pm On Aug 31, 2021
TarOrfeeek:

That's not the total stock valuation.

The companies listed have a valuation of 500million dollars or more. Which is also a VERY GOOD thing.

Especially for a tier 1 bank like Zenith bank.
The dollar availability issue is a regulatory issue and nothing to do with their financial Operations.

In Nigeria, politics and regulation is a major risk factor. You can't rule it out. You cant expect people to invest in NSE where inflation would erode their gains. Quality stocks are dying. Look at Guinness in the last 10 years.

The stock was never special. Too much hype. How can you make most of your profit from dogecoin trading and expect people to take you seriously? Coinbase that has more fundamental tailwind is still struggling

please know waste your time for that guy , I came here expecting smart Nigerians to criticize Nigeria government not knowing that clueless people full here, the fintech I use to trade America stocks (trove) insures your money upto $500,000 anything above that is at your risk ,now , tell me which politician go use that Kain app launder money? when what they steal is above that , some people here are backward as the government, God bless binance God bless Trove and other fun tech , enjoy your valueless naira while boys they cash out legit

All these guys are alligators benefitting from the comatose system so don't expect any coherent argument from them. The Nigerian that buys US stocks ir crypto, is he going to spend the proceeds in the US or convert it back to Naira? When did all these fintechs start that they are the cause of a naira which has been on life support since 2015. Besides these fintechs bring in FDI. Just this first half of the year Nigerian fintechs have raised about $150m. How much has FG attracted in FDI in this year? You allow people go for medical tourism, send their kids abroad to school, go for pilgrimage and run two exchange rates. You are more eager to apply for loan every 4 months than producing anything, and u blame fintech. Yet only 2% of Nigerians have N500k (or more in their accounts).

Fintech are giving banks a good run for their money, margin has reduced for banks hence they only way they can do it, is get a court injunction to freeze those Fintech account. Infact most of the founders of the mentioned app didn't even get any notice they read it from the internet.

" CBN alleged that they operated without license and crippled the exchange rate" I will like to see the data presented by CBN to support this allegation. If a couple of fintechs that mainly millennials use could have this effect on a whole country's exchange rate then Nigeria's situation is worse than we all think.

It started from rice ,then milk and corn at some point they blamed fuel subsidy and smuggling then they blamed corruption. Moved to BDC .

They kept looking for blamr now fintech. Soon they will say dom accounts are responsible for "dollarization" of the economy

If the banks had any brain they should be in the fintech space or have acquired one. But no. They dint want to go deeper into retail banking. They are haply with sendung young people out into the street as marketers,i flating balance sheets through excess charges on customers and chasing politicians for deposit

The most frustrating is the multiple exchange rates which is simply an avenue for them to profit from arbitrage by buying dollars at official rates and selling at market rates.

Having instituted a policy framework to facilitate their thievery, they then set about frustrating entrepreneurs in particular and Nigerians in general all in a bid to ensure a constant stream of loot.

It's just cruelty and greed masquerading as legitimate exchange rate management.

A lot of them are also aging dinosaurs, so they don't appreciate these fintech ventures and want to curtail them in order to ensure they alone get to decide who gets scarce foreign exchange.

Nigerian banks have believed that they were indispensable until fintechs came. When you have a career banker as a CBN boss, this is what u should expect.

The government of the ban, the block and the freeze.

Zero innovation. Zero capacity. Zero ideas. Just be blocking and freezing and banning and expect miracles to open.

Rice. Banned yet rice price no come down
Borders. Closed yet no notable improvement
Crypto. Banned yet Nigeria still has the highest P2P transactions, and FX still no gree improve
Twitter. blocked yet people are still tweeting steady.
FX to BDC blocked yet naira rate no gree improve

So freezing account of fintechs is just another futile attempt by empty heads leading a collapsing zoo.

I guess its okay to send your kids abroad, go for pilgrimage or medical tourism. But fintechs that have brought in more FDI than the FG in the past year are responsible for the Naira's decline. Yet these same regulators would not be swift in freezing the account of ponzi schemes that are fleecing Nigerians. I want to believe they are acting in good faith, so let's see how this plays out

In my opinion CBN are trying to engineer a bank run on these fintechs... So that investing Nigerians on this platforms might feel the need to exchange their investment for Naira just to be safe.... In return raising Naira value short term like their thinking

How is this possible? How many Nigerians even invest that the capital would be enough to push the naira up? The issue is growing the exonomy which would raise the value of the Naira.

You cant be operating two parrallel exchange rates and exoect your cureenvy to be strong.

You give government appointees and piligrims dollar at official rate and those guys would roundtrip and sell to BDCs. Who is deceving who? They ban BDC, ban crypto, ban importation on some goods, pay people N5 to change their dollars. Yet the government is still borrowing and not producing. It won't work. Let them keep beating around the bush

Think independently for once.
American companies are not breaking SEC rules of investment, if they do, they get hefty fines.
Besides, the trade are done in dollars which is not scarce for Americans.

Nigeria has SEC rules banning certain FX transactions without license and within certain limits.
Sentiments or ignorance cannot protect a company that breaks financial rules.

Reading is easy, comprehension is not. Go back and read where the conversation started before jumping to your sentimental conclusions on the point i am passing

I didn't say it's illegal but no exchange in America issues you a share cert for fractional shares ...I am sure I have spent more money on Robinhood than you have so shut up and learn

I really doubt. Because if you really have 'spent money on Robinhood' you would not make this blunder. Even holders of fractional shares receieve dividends. By the way Robinhood does not operate in Nigeria. Dundee.

Well, maybe if Nigeria had a history of less corruption, and strong regulatory policies and a stable economy, the US would have no problem in their citizens investing in our fractional stocks.

The US would not stop their citizens from investing in most European stocks and possibly even Chinese stocks until the recent trade wars.

Besides there is no difference between fractional stocks and buying full stocks.

The only difference is that you are buying a fraction of it which is even a safeguard for the customers.

The guy is a morass of ignorance.

Buying stocks properly is a lot different from this fractional stock owning fraud these companies are perpetrating ....the American govt will never allow Americans to buy Nigerian fractional stock if the reverse is done .... Truth be told companies like trove , Chaka , Bamboo are just playing on the desperateness of Nigerians to hedge inflation and stealing from them by creating a fraudulent mirror exchange that just steals from you...The US stock exchange only recognizes full shares and not fractions and that's why these companies cannot provided you with any evidence that you own shares other than a computer screen showing you green and red arrows ....Don't let them play you

Stop exposing your ignorance. Where did you hear that US supports only full shares? Did you just crawl out from under a stone? On Robinhood you can buy fractional shares. Samething with eToro and many others. So if it was illegal Robinhood would become a public company trading on US exchange? What does reading charts have to do with fractional shares? Go and read to know

You are not spending money on tfare and hiuse rent and you are complainjg. Now that you are still with your parents better start investing a portion like 20k in mutual funds. Remove that money u would pay for rent and invest it.

Dont mind people saying with 80k you cant survive. All those drivers and security guards dont have two heads. But the earlier you start investing, the better for u.
