On transit. Hopefully I will be able work out for the 2 weeks. Just heard some Blowing hausa language with thick northern accent. It made me giggle. It has been long. . . .
If this story is real, it is either this lady is blogging for US dept of homeland security from detention as a bargain( Just wondering about embossments) Or she is free and she is blogging her experience. She may just be a superb story teller anyway. Whichever way, I can't wait for todays serving:-P
Gbawe: I think you use "selling your vision" to mean a candidate revealing his plans for the nation. That can be done through a manifesto . Ribadu has a clear manifesto in place for anyone who cares to look for it so it is incorrect to say you dont think "all major candidates (except Utomi) have been able to sell any vision void of vague platitude in front of a camera.". This , from Utomi's website, is what I assume to be his manisfesto : http://utomifornigeria.com/issues . Utomi does not address key issues (security, power, etc) as specifically as Ribadu's does in his manifesto so , right now, it can be stated factually that Ribadu is currently "selling himself" better than Utomi who appears to offer "vague platitudes" . The same same can be said of GEJ i.e "vague platitudes" in place of solid plans.
In any case I use, "selling yourself" , via participation in a debate against other candidates, totally differently . In a debate Nigerians can see how effectively the various contenders understand the problems facing the nation and how they candidate can speak , impromptu, to demonstrate they have effective solutions for those problems . Ribadu is ready to debate and take questions from Nigerians while GEJ is not . Yesterday Ribadu , Utomi and Shekarau showed up to talk of their plans at a forum in Abuja. They had been invited to do so along with Buhari and GEJ. Buhari and GEJ did not show up and they did not offer any reason for not showing up . People can make what they wan't of that. My point , I think you misunderstand , is that Jonathan is over-reliant on winning the PDP way without having the "vision" to see that times have changed. Ribadu , Utomi and Shekarau show they understand that times have changed . showing belief in best current democratic practices can only demonstrate that some candidates are perhaps more democratic than others who want top positions yet are not ready to work for it perhaps because of the sole belief in Party structure , as an election winner , ahead of everything else.
@dejumotalks and all those cursing GEJ ~Did you see the highlighted? Buhari also refused to show up in another debate organised in Nigeria. Can you all say something about Buhari for refusing to appear two days ago?
By your tone I think you are one of those who joined BB bandwagon because Bakare is on board . A man of God is involved group! This is politics, do not be deceived.
BTW I would have liked to see these people debate.
I thought NN24 was a local station. Why should Nigerian presido aspirants debate on a foreign station in the first place? I am not sure that is appropriate.
Fhemmmy: All he is doing at the moment is campaign, so nothing should stop him from facing the people, let him get out of the scripts and talk and answer questions that are not prepared by some of his people . . . let us have the chance to poke his brain a little . . . . I respect him as human, and yet to see what he plan to do for the nation as a leader
Fhemmmy: Yes, it is not mandatory, but it is a good gesture to the people that you wanna rule. A leader that is compagning to rule the nation should always be ready and be prepared, and not to chicken out of a simple debate.

So even Buhari is refusing to show up for debates? Why are the BB guys up in arms. I guess they are not aware of it.
It was a bout a time when he banned the handling of foreign currencies like I said earlier.
he allowed those number of suitcases filled with hard currencies to be brought into the country where as others were prosecuted.
Only him knows why his anti corruption crusade was selective.
BTW I have listened to the interview and there is no leadership. I was thinking he would make an impact but he did not. And he was not sincere in some of his answers like I had pointed out.
he was asked how he managed to mobilise people in the north and we all know that it was a back lash from the PDP zoning saga that moved people from PDP. How many Governorship position will he win? he said he had Buhari organisation lol
One is only too aware that some Nigerians love to point to Buhari’s agenda of discipline as the shining jewel in his scrap-iron crown. To inculcate discipline however, one must lead by example, obeying laws set down as guides to public probity. Example speaks louder than declarations, and rulers cannot exempt themselves from the disciplinary strictures imposed on the overall polity, especially on any issue that seeks to establish a policy for public well-being. The story of the thirty something suitcases – it would appear that they were even closer to fifty - found unavoidable mention in my recent memoirs, YOU MUST SET FORTH AT DOWN, written long before Buhari became spoken of as a credible candidate. For the exercise of a changeover of the national currency, the Nigerian borders – air, sea and land – had been shut tight. Nothing was supposed to move in or out, not even cattle egrets.
Yet a prominent camel was allowed through that needle’s eye. Not only did Buhari dispatch his aide-de-camp, Jokolo – later to become an emir - to facilitate the entry of those cases, he ordered the redeployment – as I later discovered - of the Customs Officer who stood firmly against the entry of the contravening baggage. That officer, the incumbent Vice-president is now a rival candidate to Buhari, but has somehow, in the meantime, earned a reputation that totally contradicts his conduct at the time. Wherever the truth lies, it does not redound to the credibility of the dictator of that time, General Buhari whose word was law, but whose allegiances were clearly negotiable.
Sky Blue: I think in your tunnel vision approach you might be failing to see something. I don't think it would be as easy as you think to reel out posts from diverse sources that claim Jonathan to be the person Nigeria needs now. Personally I would rather have Pat Utomi anyday, the problem is can he win? It is unfortunate that people have been made to think along these lines but that is the truth. I think you might be confusing people selecting their perceived lesser of three evils as a clear vote of confidence for any choice. Personally I can't see myself advocating Ribadu, why on earth would I do that when he has Tinubu behind him and it even appeared to be a fight to pick his own choice of VP when it went against Tinubu's wishes? The ideal case for me has always been Utomi or someone of that nature, the one to settle for has been between Buhari and Jonathan. So you might think Buhari (an ex military dictator) the man Nigeria needs right now but not everybody does and failing to see that only makes you look more partisan and petty than level headed and unbiased. Heck if Jonathan seems a falling ship I might even start campaigning for Utomi as a moral stand (even if Buhari would probably win). If Buhari ends up winning it, well, it could be much much worse and hopefully we would get to see this whole "discipline and magic" people have been quick to assure us he can perform.
Nigeria is yet to see ideal solid candidates with solid fighting chances of attaining such lofty positions via a ballot box.
Ribadu I would have preferred Ribadu but then Ribadu is riding on his popularity as EFCC chairman and he is not doing anything. Also he has Tinubu who is worse than OBJ as his Godfather. He has no plan and thinks that saying' I will change Nigeria' will win election for him. How will he change Nigeria?
Buhari I have given my reasons why i will not vote for Buhari. Like Ribadu he is harping on his erroneously conceived Sainthood. He has no clue of what to do get our economy back on its feet. He is against privatization and I can assure you he is not going to do much in his so called fight against corruption because does not know what is called diplomatic soldiering.
Again under him massive fraud was perpetrated as a PTF chairman even though he claimed to be unaware. The 50 suitcases issue also punctures his immaculate conception claims.
"I will continue to show openly and inside me the total commitment to the Sharia movement that is sweeping all over Nigeria," Buhari said, quoted in press reports.
"God willing, we will not stop the agitation for the total implementation of the Sharia in the country," Buhari said.
He did that once by registering a circular country as a member of OIC and I do not doubt he will try that again. Buhari has never condemned any uprising at least to my knowledge in recent times not that I know of any such condemnation in the past.
If you read his campaign speech, you will not see any solution to any of the listed problems. Why will I vote him based on unfounded performance as a military head of state?
I do like the order he restored such that people could queue up at bus stations. Can he achieve that without the Khaki boys because he only knows the language of violence which does not refrain from using. I can go on!
GEJ I have a few things against GEJ His association with the brigands- OBJ, Atiku, IBB OBJ is a man like Buhari who had passion for country but went about it his own way. He capped it up by embezzling state funds. He listened to no one and was selfish. His time was not totally disastrous but we expected a lot more.
I believe it will be good for him be his own man.
He should also think before he speaks.
Apart from that, he has spent 10 months as a president. he inherited a collapsed structure and he is fighting toot and nail to get things going.
Power- what people refused to do all these while, he mustered the courage to do. Privatization of power sector. I have a highly placed NEPA staff as a neighbour and I can tell you that privatization process has gone far and that what we need to get the stable power generation we need.
You would have read the more obvious ones about the power road map in the press. He has a road map for problem.
He just gave some loan to Nollywood to be accessed by members, you would not know the ripple effect of that in the economy.
During the PDP primaries and campaign, Atiku was all out attacking him like Buhari is doing now but he came out and said what he wanted to do.
He has got a plan but Buhari does not have any.
I will give him a chance but if a better candidate comes up from the blues, i ditch camp. No one on the horizon at the moment.
omo9ja1: Study environment/resources is Nigeria is less than the one in advance Country, I work in secondary School in UK, and what I saw there compare to our secondary school in Nigeria in my secondary school days in Nigeria, advance Country have better way to deliver lesson and resources to student compare to Nigeria, But on the other hand its very expensive to study abroad compare to Nigeria.
one of the thing I learn abroad is that the education system prepares you for real world, I remember when I finish my year one my tutor ask us to write a business plan that if he present it to a bank manager he will walk out of the bank with cash.
So so true! That was the first thing I noticed and I understood why there are many inventions over here. Your mind is prepared to inventions, interventions and productivity.
2good: Guys I'm sure studying abroad is harder than stydying in Nigeria because every professor is not bothered how many assignments you have already from other courses and just keep on dolling out more assignments. The lab work is another problem, papers to present are so much and here in TU Delft, you write exam 4 times in a year as against Nigeria 2 times in a year. No break after 1st exam. You finish exam on friday and resume for a new quater(four quaters make an academic year) next monday and the lecture just keep pouring in. Also it is not cram and pour system but U have to understand basic principles of your courses because exams are based on application but alot of Nigerians have a wrong impression about the stress in the education here. I can confirm that education abroad is more difficult.
But you get long summer holiday!!!!!!!!!! That makes it education. If it is like that in Nigeria, noone will have time for cultism.
comechop: Your mileage may vary. It all depends on your institution and course of study really. Structures of questions are def not the same in my institution, hell we dont even get past questions, and no they dont repeat qustions. Tutorials? the only ones you'll get are from study group w your peers or random office hours with your prof. It is true tho that lecturers/the school want you to pass, and they'll usually give you the resources to do that.
Well may be. I have been through two Universities in the UK and the story is the same and friends in other Universities do not differ.
I am talking about postgrad studies anyway. I am not sure what obtains in undergrad anyway.
