Students of the University of Benin, friends of the deceased and members of the public had equally protested Omozuwa‘s death by taking to the streets of Benin city.
The University, in a statement, said it shares in the pain of the family of the victim. While commiserating with the bereaved family on the loss of their dear daughter, the vce chancellor prayed God to grant her soul peaceful rest.

Senate President, Dr. Ahmad Lawan has called on the President Muhammadu Buhari led federal government to obey the rule of law to the fullest.
Lawan made the call while fielding questions from newsmen on Monday in Abuja, an event that was covered by Igbere TV correspondent.
Speaking on the repeated violations of the rule of law by President Buhari, the Senate President said Nigerians should not suffer unduly for a crime they are not guilty of.
This is coming at a time the Buhari administration has been accused of disrespecting the rule of law in the trial of Omoyele Sowore, convener of RevolutionNow Movement.
Sowore, SaharaReporters publisher has been in custody of the Department of State Services (DSS), despite been granted bail by courts.
On December 9, 2019, DSS operatives re-arrested Sowore at the Federal High Court in Abuja, less than 24-hours after granting him freedom.
Also, former National Security Adviser, NSA, Sambo Dasuki has continued to languish in detention despite several courts granting him bail.
The DSS actions has been condemned by most Nigerians, rights groups and the international community
Reacting to the series of ugly developments, Senator Lawan said, “Rule of law is something that we all have to adhere to. “Part of respect for the rule of law is to ensure that those suspected of criminal activities are taken to court, but they should also be freed if they are not found guilty.
“If someone is not guilty of an offence, such a person should not suffer any undue consequences.” http://igberetvnews.com/1196484/sowore-respect-rule-law-lawan-tells-buhari/

Politics › Court To Rule On Eligibility To Entertain Ex-gov Suswan’s Case by AgencyReport(op): 11:19pm On Sep 27, 2019 |
The Federal High Court, Abuja, has fixed Sept. 30, 2019 to rule on whether the trial of former governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam and his commissioner of Finance, Omodachi Okolobia, should start afresh in his court or be returned to the former court for continuation. Igbere TV recalls that Suswam and Okolobia are facing nine-count charges that verge on money laundering and diversion of funds, preferred against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. The Commission had in November 2015, arraigned the defendants before Justice A. R. Mohammed of the Federal High Court, Abuja on the same charges and had presented four witnesses before the court. The matter was to continue after the vacation by the judiciary, however, both the prosecution and defence teams were informed of Justice Mohammed's withdrawal from the case through a hearing notice from Justice Abang's court. The defendants were to take their pleas on September 24, 2019 but could not as the defence team opposed the application. Counsel to Suswan, C.E. Ogbozor, at the resumed sitting on Friday September 27, 2019, urged the court to decline jurisdiction and return the case file to the Honourable Acting Chief Judge of the Federal High Court. Ogbozor told the court that she was not aware of Justice Mohammed’s disqualification of himself from conducting the trial, adding that it amounted to a breach of right of fair hearing, should an order of transfer of charges be made by Justice Muhammed without the notice of the defendants. She argued that the prosecution having called four witnesses, cannot be allowed to commence de novo. He referred to Section 1, 98, 99 and 396(7) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, where if a case has been partly heard, cannot start de novo, stating that the only exception was when a trial judge ceases to hold office by act of law or act of God. The prosecution counsel, O. A. Atolagbe, while opposing the defence counsel’s argument, urged the court to refuse the application adding that the crucial question to be asked, was whether a judge could be compelled to hear a case against his wish. He recalled that Justice Mohammed on June 6, 2019, withdrew from the case and sent back the case to the Chief Judge, stating that both counsel had expressed absolute confidence in him to adjudicate in the matter. He said the case file was returned to him after the Chief Judge acceded to the request. Atolagbe argued that the trial judge needed not to have invited parties to address them on whether or not he should disqualify himself or return the case file back to the Chief Judge for re-assignment as the judge’s action was not driven by an address of any of the counsel. Justice Abang adjourned the matter to September 30, 2019, for ruling, reports Igbere TV. http://igberetvnews.com/1029607/court-to-rule-on-eligibility-to-entertain-ex-gov-suswans-case/Lalasticlala, Mynd44, OAM4J

Former Governor of Imo State, Senator Rochas Okorocha has denied reports claiming that some of his aides had gone into hiding to evade arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). A media report had claimed that aides of the former governor had disappeared from the state ostensibly to avoid being arrested by personnel of the anti-corruption agency. But Okorocha, in a statement issued by his media aide, Mr Sam Onwuemeodo, and published by NAN, described the report as “totally false”. “The report claiming that my aides have gone into hiding did not mention any of my aides alleged to have gone into hiding. “The report has no iota of truth because no name was mentioned. In the whole story, the reporter could not mention any of the aides or the EFCC officials who came to Imo, to arrest them. “The report did not mention the offence which my aides committed, that made EFCC to come to Imo,” the statement added. He accused the purveyors of the report of mischief, and described the attitude as “sad and tragic”. “EFCC does not need to come to Imo for any of my aides; all the agency needs to do is to send an invitation and it will be honoured,” the statement published by NAN said. http://igberetvnews.com/1025310/alleged-fraud-none-aides-gone-hiding-okorocha/

...to amend constitution, tackle poverty, block financial leakagesThe Nigerian Senate on Thursday, September 26, 2019, considered the report of the ad-hoc Committee on the 9th Senate Legislative Agenda. The report, which was exhaustively debated by Senators during plenary, was presented by the committee’s Chairman, Adamu Aliero (APC, Kebbi Central) on Wednesday. The President of Senate, Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, in his remarks after consideration of the ad-hoc committee’s report, commended the Senators for doing a thorough work. According to him, the interventions contained in the report will be subject to constant reviews to meet with new challenges posed by the dynamic nature of society. Lawan who spoke passionately on the plight of out-of-school children, said the Senate will do all in its powers to reverse the trend through the introduction of a programme to be championed by the federal government. He said, “This committee has done a very good job. You have given time to this, and the senate is pleased with, and grateful for what you have done. “As for the various interventions and contributions, it shows the focus of our distinguished senators. We are here to make very positive difference in the lives of Nigerians. “We want to make our country better, and therefore those issues reflected in the agenda are issues that we are hopeful will create those positive changes that will make life better for Nigerians. “But at the same time, the proposed agenda cannot be exhaustive. Legislations are supposed to continue as society is a very dynamic one; fresh challenges will emerge, we therefore require some interventions, whether through policies or legislation”, added Lawan. http://igberetvnews.com/1025104/senate-must-work-reduce-school-children-lawan/

Politics › N65.1m Oil Fraud: EFCC Docks Man Who Impersonated NNPC GMD by AgencyReport(op): 3:24pm On Sep 26, 2019 |
The Kaduna Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 arraigned one Nuhu Ibrahim Shuaibu ( alias Ishaku Abdulrazak) before Justice P. Mallong of the Federal High Court, sitting in Kaduna on four-count charges that border on impersonation and fraud to the tune of N65,150,000 (Sixty-five Million, One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira). Shuaibu’s road to the dock began sometime in 2017, when he introduced himself as NNPC’s Group Managing Director, Finance and Accounts to a businessman, Mallam Faisal Safiyanu, whom he promised to assist in the procurement of between 2,000mt to 2,500mt of petroleum products. Over a period of time, the plaintiff paid a total sum of N65,150,000 (Sixty-five Million, One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira) to the defendant in three instalments. After the payments, all efforts by the victim to get the defendant supply the promised petroleum products proved abortive. One of the charges reads: “That you Nuhu Ibrahim Shuaibu ( a.k.a Ishaku Abdulrazak) of No 1, Khaleesa Close Millennium City Kaduna, between November 2017 and May 2018 in Kaduna, within the judicial division of this honourable court with intent to defraud, did obtain the total sum of N65,150,000 (Sixty-five Million, One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira) from one Faisal Safiyanu under the pretence that you will supply him with petroleum products which you knew to be false and you thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1(1)(a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offence Act, 2006 and punishable under Section 1(3) of the same Act.” The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges, prompting the prosecution counsel, M. Lawal to pray the court for a commencement date of trial and for the defendant to be remanded in prison custody pending trial. Counsel to the defendant, Sule Shuaibu, however, prayed the court to grant his client bail to enable him prepare for his trial-a prayer that was objected to by the prosecution-who feared the defendant would jump bail. Justice Mallong ordered the accused to be remanded in prison custody and fixed September 30, 2019 for the hearing of the bail application. http://igberetvnews.com/1024393/efcc-docks-conman-n65-1m-oil-fraud-kaduna/Lalasticlala, Mynd44, OAM4J

President Muhammadu Buhari has reacted to the failed coup attempt on the Government of Ghana, early Wednesday morning. Igbere TV had reported the interception of an attempted plot against the authorities in Ghana, particularly the president. President Buhari’s reactions were contained in a statement by his Senior Spokesman, Garba Shehu, in a tweet sighted by Igbere TV. Read below.... Following the announcement of the interception of an attempted plot against the authorities in Ghana, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, has issued the following statement:
“Nigeria and Ghana are leading partners in ECOWAS, and Transparency International, and Afrobarometer’s Africa Index 2019 attested that both countries have recorded exceptional advances in fighting corruption.
When you take on powerful and corrupt vested interests successfully, sometimes they seek to push back. As the saying goes, ‘if you fight corruption, corruption will fight back’.
“The only acceptable form of governance in our region in this 21st century is through democratic elections. It is the only way to install – and the only way to change – an administration. The days of coups and government without votes are over.
“All Africans hold the nation of Ghana in the highest esteem as the first post-colonial country to gain independence, and the first African country to hold multi-party elections by universal suffrage. Ghana is the first, true African democracy.
“We in Nigeria hold out – as always - our hands in support and friendship to our brothers and sisters in Ghana”. https://twitter.com/GarShehu/status/1176845244643590145?s=19http://igberetvnews.com/1020980/president-buhari-reacts-failed-coup-ghana/
