I happened to be in a village somewhere in Ogun state and was privileged to see what bitter kola pod looks like and the juice inside for the first time in my over four decades in life. I was amazed but was disappointed at seeing how the fresh juice inside the pod was been wasted during extraction of the seeds. I told my friends that the sweet aroma or fragrance of the juice shows that it is very useful or perhaps can be consumed by humans but they were been washed away. If it were to be in other climes, they would not waste the juice inside. They would research it's usefulness, extract it and use it for something that could help humanity but the villagers were only interested in the seed. Everything was thrown away Great minds what can the juice be used for?

"He told me that for every time I make love with him, he will reduce your prison sentence by one year..." "What !!! What a miserable bastard and what did you say to that son of a bitch?" "Oh, Roger! Lately, I have observed that a lot of bikes abruptly stop on the road and the next thing you see is the OKADA man bends his bike, lifts it up, opens the tank and blows air into it. I saw two incidents this morning within 600 meters. The next thing you see is that he zooms of with full speed. Zooms off to where? Who else has observed this in recent time? |

He made that point too. Very insightful! |
In my discussion with a colleague about the skyrocketing price of rice and blaming it on flooding, he asked a significant question. He asked me if Nigerians consume more local rice than foreign rice. I told him I "think" we consume more foreign rice and he was like if we eat more imported rice, how come the flood of a few days in Nigeria suddenly became responsible for the absurd hike in price? I couldn't really wrap my head around his reasoning. If he is right, then something is amiss. Do most Nigerians really depend on local rice? Please share your thoughts on this. |

Some school of thought believe that most Nigerian students will learn better if they are taught in pidgin English. Imagine been taught mathematics in pidgin, don’t you think that you will understand it better? |
Despite the use of Standard English language as the nation’s lingua franca, it is still evident that many a people of Nigeria still prefer to converse in Nigerian Pidgin English. Mafeni, (1971) notes that Nigerian Pidgin English has grown into an extensively spoken language in Nigeria and that many town and city residents are at least bilingual in Nigerian Pidgin English and one indigenous language, usually their mother tongue. In consonance with Mafeni, Faraclas, (2004) submits that Nigerian Pidgin English is spoken, today, by millions of people, especially the younger age bracket signifying various linguistic areas of the Nigerian society. Relating to the numerical strength of Nigerian Pidgin English speakers in Nigeria, Ihemere, (2006) states that Nigerian pidgin is the native language of approximately three (3) to five (5) million people and is a second language for at least another 75 million people. Faraclas, (2004 p.828) states that well over half of the 140 million inhabitants of Nigeria are now fluent speakers of the language, making Nigerian Pidgin English the most widely spoken language in Nigeria, as well as the indigenous African language with the largest number of speakers. Given the rapid spread of Nigerian Pidgin English among younger Nigerians, this proportion should increase to cover over seventy or eighty per cent by the time the present generation of children reaches adulthood. There is no Creole language worldwide with nearly as many speakers as Nigerian Pidgin English. What do you think? |
[quote author=pansophist post=102775874]Most husbands or some husband? It's insecurity in his own part. Same way a woman may feel threatened when her husband speaks to a younger attractive woman. This is why it is necessary for people to retain their ability to "catch fish". It keeps the relationship cohesively vibrant. When your partner knows that you can attract other people easily, but you choose not to, it makes them respect and strengthens their faithfulness towards you. Men that feels threatened when their wife speaks with other men have probably relented on their prime duty of continously being valuable, such as keeping fit, intellectually engaging, bad finances and ability to nack her well. Because you're married doesn't mean all Job is done, it's a continous work. So you don't get jealous/insecure, but face the source of that insecurity. Its easier for your partner to be virtuous when one respects him/herself, and continous self development is a key demonstration to that. Be that person your wive is proud of in public, making her feel lucky and equally complimented. Be her jackpot. I am really impressed that some Nairalanders can hold down conversations maturely. I am really impressed. BTW: I like that 'catch-fish' phrase. |
habsydiamond:Very sound reasoning. You spoke my thought. Thanks. |
