Please does anyone know how to import food items to the UK from Nigeria in commercial quantities? I will appreciate if anyone has a guide to share or point me to where I can find such information. Thank you.

grin grin I told madam months ago that i don't want more kids and i'm dead serious...but she wasn't buying it.

Too late to buy Tesla now though the price may drop if Trump fails to give him a political office.

Looking back to history (Russia is the only world power never colonised any country) therefore I would predict a symbiotic relationship compare to that of US parasitic one.

Plus the need to take that Incumbent World power from the US is a neccisity at the moment and only Russian and China can pull that through which makes BRiC the answer IMO.
missjekyll:
On the contrary, I m looking at a potential silver lining maybe? Trump is solidly in putins corner. That's why I said Putin is the new world power. Nigeria has aligned itself with Putin through this BRICS thing.

Do you think this would be more beneficial than our former alliance with the US?

Indirectly taxing the employees… Labour and its cunning nature. 😒
ReesheesuKnack:
“No. We did not increase the cost of transportation from Owerri to Orlu. We promised that we will never increase the cost of transportation for PASSENGERS.”

“What we actually did (and y’all must applaud us) is that we increased the cost of Petrol for BUS DRIVERS. Only the DRIVERS will buy petrol at an increased cost. The PASSENGERS should not worry as we did not increase transport fare”.

I carefully listened to the OBR take on the budget today. The OBR specifically analysed that the National Insurance increase for Employers will (in the real sense of it) translate to 3/4 of the burden by employees and 1/4 of the burden by employers themselves.

Just don’t get caught if you use your Nigeria driver’s license after having being in the Uk for more than a year. If you get caught, So pe otilo o. I would advise not to try it if you want to drive, get a provisional and find someone who has three years of experience to be in the car with you.

As with the date, people make business of buying date in bulk and reselling them while aome are just good at getting closer date. My former driving instructor does the latter, I can connect you with him if you are interested.
igbsam:
For someone like me that have been in the uk for over a year and just planning to drive. Can i still use my Nigerian license for awhile, while i await to write my practical driving test next year. The closest date i found is April.

Thanks for the clarification. Just be sure I understand you well, it means A skilled worker can’t have any other side hustle (self employed) because no one would give COS for a 20hours job as in the case you mentioned below it is probably the only job the individual has. Does this also reflect with those who are freelancers or business owners outside of Uk?
Zahra29:
Not quite. A skilled worker can be self employed but the employer has to provide sponsorship and a contract outlining the work they have been contracted to perform. The skilled worker can then establish a limited company or register as a sole trader and invoice the sponsor for work performed. Examples are dental associates and private tutors.
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by AgentXxx(m): 6:32pm On Oct 25, 2024
Thanks for your input.
ReesheesuKnack:
While waiting for the experts (read: Zahra29),
Let me try.
The rule on SWV (this may be outdated) was that your 2nd (supplementary) job MUST be in the same occupational code with the Job which sponsored your visa.

In this case, Amazon flex is a no.
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by AgentXxx(m): 6:32pm On Oct 25, 2024
Thanks for your input. So In summary, A skilled worker isn’t allowed to be self employed.
Zahra29:
Lol, you're conflating this with tier 4 visa rules. Skilled worker visa rules do not make any concessions for offices being closed e.g. during Christmas.

It is now permitted to work up to 20 hours in any supplementary role as long as the role is listed on the ISL or falls under an eligible SOC 2020 occupation code. I don't believe delivery jobs are eligible for sponsorship so a skilled worker wouldn't be allowed to take on Amazon flex as an additional job.
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by AgentXxx(m): 8:28am On Oct 25, 2024
Good people of this forum. I need you to enlighten me as I and a friend(also on nairaland) got into a debate of if someone on a skilled worker visa is allowed to do delivery jobs like Amazon flex especially during the period when offices are closed?

Thank you 🙏🏾

I used a man for my visa and flight in 2022 (gave him 1250£) while I booked my hotel myself. Visa in itself is around 350 to 500£ which is necessary for Nigeria passport holders. If you are British then just book your flight and hotels.

Thanks bro but sorry to disappoint you, it wasn’t manual o as I do not see any reason to stress myself to learn manual when i stopped driving manual about 7years ago. Good luck to you 🤞🏾
Hkana:
Congratulations. Your post has given me a bit of hope. I'm currently learning to drive using a manual and I'm almost at my wits end. Lol.

Was yours a manual test?
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by AgentXxx(m): 3:21pm On Sep 14, 2024
Exactly, this whole thing taught me knowledge should take precedence before action. Which is the other way round in Nigeria. They would tell you you will catch up while doing the action 😂
jedisco:
Lol... it was a comedy of basic errors. For most, it's anxiety which didn't appear to be an major issue with you.

I think you were being over-confident and undermining the test cos its straightforward. Confidence should come from knowledge no be only bravado.
Perhaps, if you had settled down, taken 10 - 20hr spaced-out lessons, you might have pulled through on your first attempt.
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by AgentXxx(m): 3:19pm On Sep 14, 2024
Thanks bro 🙏🏾 , Rules wey dem no dey follow, that one na rule? 😂 everything in Nigeria is about who is faster 😂
Cyberknight:
Congrats. "Traffic on the road has priority over traffic joining the road", and "Give way to traffic on your left at roundabouts" are rules of the road in Nigeria o wink . We do have rules, even though few obey them.
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by AgentXxx(m): 2:22pm On Sep 14, 2024
jedisco:
Hehe.. Big congrats.

Forget luck, lemme ask, what caused the 5 failed practical attempts?
You wouldn't blame 9ja for the faild theory attempts.
First one ( decided to try myself on without prior lessons, failed in my observation as we do not have the 6points check in Nigeria driving and also failed at the roundabout) as we don’t have the give way to right issh in Nigeria, na who fast pass 😂.

Second one (after 6hrs lessons, I didn’t position well at the roundabout again as I was turning third exit at the right and I was meant to be positioned inside more) this isn’t also taught in Nigeria driving.

Third one after 6hrs lesson again( very silly mistake and I failed from the beginning, we parked on the right side of the road at the driving centre. When we were about to move, for a seconds I forget it is left hand driving so I moved out while being on the right before I could swap to left, dem press break.

Fourth one after 2hrs lesson, (was also silly just as the third one and it was close to the end of the test, I got to a junction to go right and I forgot to keep left for a seconds and started moving right before I knew it, dem hammer break)

Fifth one was today Didn’t take any lessons and it was smooth and came out with three minors.

NB: I never drove with my Nigeria license when I got here. Observation, Roundabouts, Owning the road over those coming from side roads, pedestrian crossing etc are not a common knowledge in Nigeria driving oo.
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by AgentXxx(m): 1:32pm On Sep 14, 2024
Make Una help me jubilate oo, After 3 theory test attempts , 5 practical test attempts, Over 2k£ spent between booking test dates, a car for each tests and driving lessons, I have finally passed today 🍾🥳

Despite having 14yrs experience of driving through the nook and crook of Nigeria thinking I was a professional driver, my doubt was cleared and I had to relearn and throw a way the bad habits .

As Oga Lexus once said “the more years you spent driving the Nigeria roads, the more lessons and trainings you would need to pass unless you are among the few lucky ones. 😂

Tbh, I doubt if you would find a one bed or two bed for less than 1k in SE London. The least you would get a 1bed (if you are lucky) is around 1250, just forget about 2bed. Most studio apartment are going for 800 to 1k

Just ask your company to book for Orange carpet for you. You will be able to attend the interview say tomorrow but it does not quarantee that your visa application decision would be expedited

Hi all,

Can someone please share that bot for finding a close appointment date for Schengen visa? I have a company sponsored Expo for Nov 6 in Amsterdam and I was seeing on their site that visa application must be made at least 45days earlier.

Can anyone also share if there is a way my company could be of help to fast track the visa process? I am currently thinking of applying by myself.

Thank you

Now we are progressing. Great points listed 👍🏾

Miss Jekyll, I hope you are taking notes. Please take it to the Oga at the top as the labour spoke person in this forum 😀
Goodenoch:
Decisive enforcement and long prison sentences for deterrence whether it's sexual assault, grooming, racist attacks and incitement or whatever else.

Assessing and (changing as neccessary) the immigration system for sustainability and making sure when they do that they don't constantly bash immigrants.

Process asylum seekers quickly and either grant them asylum or refuse them and return them if they're found to be ineligible.

Stop the bleeding of taxpayer money to government cronies like the Tories did with Baronness Mone and other party donors. Use they money to improve deprived areas and educate the unemployed and unemployable.

Invest more into the Healthcare system to get more people on long term sick back to work.
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by AgentXxx(m): 7:35am On Aug 09, 2024
Problems, Causes and Solutions is how I would like us to view this issue.

Problems - Thugs attacking and attempting to murder immigrants and asylum seekers.

Is this right? No!!! And I believe every sane person would agree. So I would assume we are passed this stage .

Causes - Most of us are jumping this part.

Is this caused by immigrants or asylum seekers?
No!!!! I believe every sane person would agree.

Is this caused by government? I believe most if not all of us would agree.

How is government the cause? Zahra29 points it out and we all flare up 😊.

Can anyone of those against her points list out how the government are the cause? 🙏🏾

Once the above becomes known, it is easier to move to the last stage.

Solution
(Temporary): Government is stern about not tolerating this act, arrests and jail this thugs.
(Permanent ): The root cause is needed to get a permanent solution

This takes us back to my initial question: Aside points listed by Zahra29 , can any other person list out the causes?

Thank you.
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by AgentXxx(m): 7:13am On Aug 09, 2024
We have agreement on some things just in case you are doubting. Yes, it is terrorism and attempt to murder people, it is not acceptable, they should be severely punished and jailed. Immigrants/Asylum seekers are not the cause of their problem.

Now let’s get back to the question. What should the government do to permanently resolve this? Or you think it would end with just jailing some thugs?
Goodenoch:
What is in question is violence not merely aggression, which can vary from a stern face to clipped sentences and up to violence, assault and murder.

Stop being mealy-mouthed and be specific - say expressly if you think being angry at your boss would be an 'underlying cause' for setting your children on fire.

That's what we're discussing here. If a million people protested peacefully saying they don't want migrants of any kind, I wouldn't complain. It's their democratic right. If they vote, as they did, for a party with aggressive views about migrants, same thing.

What we're seeing is terrorism and attempts to murder people. Be bold and answer like you were asked if you believe you also share responsibility for those merely by virtue of being in the country as an immigrant.
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by AgentXxx(m): 6:53am On Aug 09, 2024
Are you just reading to reply and argue? 😒Anyways your answer lies in my last paragraph, kindly read all over to understand the point.

Mind you most (if not all) parents have fallen into the narrated scenario at one time in their life.
missjekyll:
So the next time I feel aggrieved ,can I attack my neighbours too? Instead of petitioning the government the actual cause of my woes, can I burn down the travelodge with people in them?
Was that an equal reaction?

I would like to request that we personalise this discussion. Instead of just saying "immigrants" say "I" , "my job" etc etc. See if you still want to accept any responsibility for these riots. I ,an immigrant ,do not accept any of the responsibility for these riots.
I return them squarely back to the rioters . None of my actions caused this. They own this 100%.
