Nairaland General › The Very Bad Maintenance Culture Of Nigerians by aginamuk(op): 3:35pm On Jun 05, 2012
Nigeria as a country and Nigerians as a people all have a culture of non-maintenance. The 'as long as we can get it to work when it needs to' attitude needs to go away for progress to be made. It's so easy to point a finger at Dana and other airlines now owing to this recent tragedy but how many of u(s) service (o)ur air conditioners and cookers at home? This may shock you but air conditioners and cookers account for more deaths than airline crashes annually (over the last decade, over the last century and in fact since the history of the country sef). Change begins with YOU!!!

In the current United States presidential fleet, there are two Boeing VC-25As – specifically configured, highly customized Boeing 747-200B series airplanes - built in 1990. They are 22 years old and are scheduled to be replaced beginning 2017.

blank:
These are the characteristics of a binomial process to toss an unbiased coin:

1. Each outcome must be classified as a success (p) or a failure (r),
2. The probability distribution is discrete.
3. Each trial is independent and therefore the probability of success and the probability of failure is the same for each trial.

Can't remember the rest but i think there are 6 of them.
GBAM! E.g. The probability of getting all heads in ten filps of an unbiased coin is 1/2^10 = 1/1024 but if you get heads nine times, the probability of the tenth flip being heads is just half i.e. 1/2. Each particular outcome is independent of the previous.
Romance › Re: How To Spend Valentine's Day Alone by aginamuk: 5:33pm On Feb 12, 2012
Eltonluigi:
Another name for Valentine’s Day is S.A.D (Singles Awareness Day) Learn how not to let this commercial holiday get you down.

  1.
         * 1

           Take a deep breathe and realize that you are not alone in this situation. There are plenty of singles out there that feel the same way you do.
         * 2

           Realize that this is just a commercial holiday that some companies make billions on your love for someone else. Remember “Love Don't Cost A Thing” by J Lo. You can also be happy that you're saving yourself some money especially in these bad economic times.

         * 3

           Remember that there is always LOVE in your life even if it doesn't come from that special someone. You have your family your friends, and if you have a pet. If you don't have one this would be the best time to go out and adopt a puppy, who could really use the love more than a special someone.
         * 4

           If all else fails; Rent or go to a movie, preferably one in which at least one of the prospective love interests gets killed off near the beginning. (James Bond films are great for this.) or call a single friend of yours and head out to the bars. They will be filled with people just like you and you can get drunk and have a good time with all those people and celebrate!!!
When did song titles/lyrics become a standard of living? Or when did J.Lopez (with 3 or so failed marriages) become an authority in matters of lovehuh

Romance › Re: What Are The Most Important Reasons For You To Get Married? by aginamuk: 5:42pm On Dec 11, 2011
"Marriage is an investment in one's future. Sure, you sacrifice some of your 'sweet' single years, but in exchange you get to make a long-term investment in one person, building a deep, abiding love that has the potential to last a lifetime.

Marriage also individually offers a couple the kind of stability and support that allows them succeed in all other aspects of life. Think about it: How much more could you accomplish if all the drama from crazy men and women and bad breakups was replaced by the presence of a loving and caring partner? "

Why did the hospital refuse to treat him at first? because of the gunshot?how silly.
It's like you don't know that Nigerian hospitals do not treat gun shot wounds without a police report (emergency or not). This policy has left thousands of people dead over the years.

Family › Re: Help! How Much Will This Marriage List Cost? by aginamuk: 2:11pm On Nov 03, 2011
i doubt it will be up to 200,000 naira.

it's just a long list of petty stuffs.
i see snuff and benson n hedges(that's probably 50 naira).

the op should just send £800. she should let his dude pay £500 and support him with £300.
it's a tradition and it's no biggie. men cough out this amount on ordinary smart gadgets that they dump after 2 yrs, how much more a wifey.

£800 to £1000 should be enough to fix this list.
Are you joking? How much is a cow?
Family › Re: Why Do Nigerians Use People? by aginamuk: 7:39pm On Sep 27, 2011
I have personally been dealt with by my fellow Nigerians. I then decided to make it a policy that when it comes to anything money, as difficult as it may be to do business that way, I do cash and carry. I naively made exception last year to my so called FRIENDS. In ALL the cases, I lost both my money and the friends. They owe me money and they no longer take my calls. It's a Nigerian thing. Where I reside, you can practically go to a bank with someone's words but it's not the case in Nigeria. The irony of it is that these people who say what they mean and mean what they say are not religious at all whereas the most religious country and people in the world has the worst scammers.

I'm pretty sure the number of Nigerians that will say something and do it as they said can be counted on one hand. Only in Nigeria will a person schedule a meeting by 9AM and show minutes past 9 without an apology and feel it is very OK. If you complain, they will say "is it not just x minutes?" That's a culture thing.
Jobs/Vacancies › Re: Exxonmobil Trainee It Professional : Test by aginamuk: 4:08pm On Dec 09, 2009
Hey Mekenry, I just found some new info. I applied myself for the same job and was not called even though I think I am over-qualified for the job. Here is some new info from the ExxonMobil website:

Aptitude Testing

In all cases, entry-level job applicants are subjected to a standardized aptitude test and only those who score at or above the pre-established cut-off mark are shortlisted for the second level of testing. HR determines cut-off marks in consultation with representatives of the hiring department.

Skill Test

A skill test is usually administered for those who are advanced past the aptitude test; especially for Medical, Engineering, Geoscience, Computer Applications, Accounting and other Technical positions. This stage assesses the technical knowledge of candidates in their area of expertise. This test is administered by our Technical Training Unit, the hiring department, or an authorized external consultant. In each case, HR coordinates and supervises the testing. Only candidates who meet the pre-determined cut-off mark for the skill test are invited for an oral interview.

What this means is that WE (the experienced guys/girls) are not required to take the aptitude test. Let's hope we get called for a SKILL TEST sometime. I hope this answers your question.
