Even though everyone knows about the CcHub in Yaba Lagos and several other hubs, no one really knows who is working on agric related projects at these hubs. All we hear of are products that are helping Lagos residents to get taxi, connect, buy stuff online. Nothing groundbreaking. But in Ibadan, something that is very interesting is starting to get underway with the launch of Nigeria’s first agribusiness innovation center.

I recently had a chat with Oluwajoba Okediji, the founder of AgroInfoTech which is the company behind the Agro Innovation HUB Ibadan, and he said the hub is a platform where innovative ideas are generated and accelerated into ventures that can solve the problems in agriculture and agribusiness using new technologies.

“It’s a space that will bring all the necessary stakeholders together to add value to existing solutions and systems and birth new ones that will redefine agriculture in Nigeria, West Africa and ultimately the African continent,” he said.

He admitted that there are many hubs in Nigeria presently but none is focusing on agric and this is why he said his company decided to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Institute of Agricultural Research and Training, Moor Plantation Ibadan, Nigeria which is a world renowned agro research institute of international repute and they have the mandate in some agricultural programs across the country.

The NYSC scheme should be redesigned to promote agribusiness. Corpers should be camped on farm settlements, trained in agribusiness and not military fitness. They should be grouped into teams and trained on specific agro areas. That's the only way out!

Barbing, bead making, tie and dye....are these what we call skill acquisitions? NYSC should be redesigned to promote agriculture in Nigeria, that's the only way out. CORP members should be camped on farm settlements and be integrated into the agribusiness value chain.
NYSC can change the face of agribusiness in Nigeria.

All the yam farmers in the north are now Okada farmers and gate guards in the southwest. NYSC camps should be turned to farm settlements!

Play your cards well and try to push your ideas to limelight. Get customers for your products/company and grow.

Government support programmes for IT in Nigeria been politicized and its an in-house game.
