mYphhiRes:if you say eg $4 increased by 10% (which is 0.10 in decimal) in year one, calculating the long method you will have $4+ (4x0.1) =$4.4. Imagine that the original $4 is 100%, it now increased by 10% which is now 110% or 1.1 (in decimal), so just have 4x1.1 =4.4. same applies for a 20% increase, the original 100% +20% increase = 120% or 1.2. if 100% decreases by 20%, its now 80% left, eg 4x0.8=3.2. 3 Likes |

The verbal test is 30 questions in 19 mins, with 4-5 questions per passage. always the true, false or cannot say. the key to passing this is to base your answer not on the assumptions you know about the topic in real life but on only and only the words that are stated in the passage, watch out small conflicting words like when the passage says "the doctors sometimes suffer stress" and the question asked "the doctors always suffer stress ", then in this case, the answer is false. if the question asks about an assertion like "the planets all revolve around the sun" but the passage says a lot of things about planets but doesn't explicitly say anything about revolving around the sun even though you know this is true in real life, the answer is that you cannot say based on the passage. anything true will be the very same reasoning as the passage. since you have 19 mins to answer 30 questions that gives u 1.5 mins to answer one question so you have to be fast. the key is to take up 2 mins to read the passage thoroughly the first time it pops up, understand it, then you can use less than 1 min to answer the subsequent questions related to the passage. always read the question first before reading the passage so you know exactly what you are looking for in the passage, and even when you find it finish the entire passage, so you don't spend any more time reading the same passage for the subsequent related questions. For the numerical test, you have 18 questions in 25 mins, 1.3 mins per question, this gives you ample time cos no long passage to read. You have to read the question first and look for the important variables required to solve the question. Its all about ratios, addition, percentages, no word problems forget the shl direct test, its all about interpreting tables.... tables..... tables and graphs as well. the key is to know your short cut arithmetic; like if the sales for country A (currently $20m) increases 20% each year from year 1 what is the projected sales for year 4; instead of multiplying 20% x 20m then adding back to 20m for each of the next 3 years, simply have 20mx1.2x1.2x1.2= Ans. again if you are told that sales of January ($4m) decreased by 2% from December last year, find sales for December or as a ratio to sales from another month; think about it- January sales $4m decreased by 2% from December. lets say in percentage December sales is 100% decreased by 2% = January sales of $4m (98%), rewriting it in algebra; 0.98 of x (x is DEC sales)= $4m, x =4/0.98 to get back the 100% (x which is December sales), So practice practice practice, know how to convert your exchanges, know when to divide to get dollar or multiply to get a larger currency. Practice, practice, practice!!!!!, hope this epps. P.s. Agroronnie is a female not a bro. 34 Likes 2 Shares |

Wunmi7: The general practice questions available on the shl site is generic, you'd rarely find graphs and all. but this company specific ones, they usually deal with tables, graph interpretation like find the ratio of or what percentage of growth in year 1 is total sales. the shl materials on here are quite similar, example that iko, xiang table of profit and turnover, just practice, practice, practice...... forget the generic maths question. the verbal is always true, false or cannot say |

I just finished the test, it was very similar to the one i took before for pwc uk's recruitment and also hilton's shl test and its easy, know your ratios and percentages. Its odd that its just link for the verbal and numerical tests and no the questionnaire yet, am sure it will come cos there is no pwc without L.T.E. anyways the email says complete your test from now till 2 march 2017, thats the deadline and the link expires after that. so at least results would be out by 6th, 7th march. confidence is key, all the best guys 3 Likes |

Am i the only one who finds it weird that some family member whom i do not know sent in my cv for CMB recruitment? Anyways, test went great. 60 questions in 5 areas, verbal, quant, logic, current affairs chief justice of nigeria, chairperson of A.U and business awareness like basic economics and accounting concepts and definitions, inflation, macroeconomics. Then 30 mins essay on how u can contribute to cmb vision, banks and peculiarities and how cmb can position itself for leadership in African financial market. Went great though..... fingers crossed |

Hmmmm...... seems everyone who has written the test signed a non disclosure form, not to discuss the test format outside the premises. Cos this is a first time massive recruitment for coronation bank and this set is the pilot set, with little or no info about what to expect like kpmg them. Well, i'll just study my entire gmat numerical and verbal, logical and current affairs online. And go n write it and share my own experience for future trainees so they wont have to fly blind like i did, so i'll see you all next week. Life is a race, run individually, its ok. Run in a team, always better. Peace |

[quote author=muna9 post=48832918] I'd advice you go through the 2015 thread and read through it from page to page, I did so and it worked. This 2016 thread wasn't really useful to me as such.[/jquote] I totally agree with you, i have gone through 2016 thread and i didnt hold much weight currently researching on the 2015 thread and i find it quite insightful |

Already prepping myself for 2017 pwc GT program. Hopefully the successful 2016 candidates could throw more light on their experiences through each stage of the recruitment. ..... correct me if am wrong but from what i gathered, there is the online application, shl online numerical test (18 questions in 25mins) and verbal test (30 questions in 19mins) comprising of a yes no or cannot say answer from the passages, then the verification tests same as above at the pwc hq lagos, then a personality test which has to be geared towards pwc's 3 simple yet unique values; leadership, teamwork and excellence. If successful, there will a group discussion and interview invite and all these may last a period of 7 months +. Sounds fair, for an Accounting major like me who has been very keen to get into auditing, a Big 4/6 professional services firm is worth the wait. Congrats to successful candidates. See you soon |

Cocoboms... sure... On another note those whose wrote the test without the calculator, am very familiar with the data sufficiency, type gmat question from the gmat book, however how would you rate the level of arithmetic in deloitte test because with the gmat/gre test a calculator is allowed but you still need to be familiar with ur mental arithmetic to be my email... able to work faster... So how would you rate the arithmetric difficulty in deloitte's test that doesnt require a calculator. Easy medium or hard in terms of percentages, ratios, geometry, algebra, data interpretation. |
