What does the Green Party of Nigeria really represent? For starters, there is no denying the fact that we are in the middle of an epic struggle, a very challenging phase in the course of our nation’s history. The on-going struggle to regenerate Nigeria is, of course, between genuine game changers, that is to say, those who want to embrace a more progressive agenda and those who are driven by a dispiriting spectacle of threadbare ideas. The Green Party of Nigeria thus became a child of necessity to rescue Nigeria and Nigerians from the death throes of misrule foisted on us by a cast of neophyte actors. We believe in a free, democratic society where the rule of law shall be vigorously pursued and upheld with a view to advancing the cause of social justice in a stable constitutional government. Nigerians today suffer from the debilitating effects of hunger and this has triggered many other social vices and crimes of varying degrees. The Green Party of Nigeria as a party that cares about the social welfare of Nigerians has in its possession a well thought out and packaged agricultural programme for a holistic solution. It is our interest and desire to pursue social justice for all, fashion out policies to cater for the unemployed have-nots, the underprivileged, the unemployed, socially displaced and the handicapped to ensure a healthy lifestyle that is totally free from abuse. What is the party’s stand on the call for restructuring? On the vexed issue of restructuring, the Green Party of Nigeria is following the issue cautiously and making wide and extensive consultations across the country in order to come up with a workable policy document that will be acceptable to every section of Nigeria. That is why we are yet to take a firm position. In fact, we do not want to put the cart before the horse considering the sensitive nature of this issue. We do not want to make any mistake. That is why we deem setting up a special committee for this purpose absolutely necessary to study the situation, make extensive consultations by reaching out a hand to all the geopolitical zones. The GPN presidential candidate, His Excellency Maj. Hamza Al-Mustapha, together with his team, has been on nation-wide tour in this regard. How will your party address the challenge of corruption in the country? President Muhammadu Buhari, doubtless, deserves a pat on the back in this regard and the Green Party of Nigeria, therefore, voices solidarity with him in the on-going anti-graft war for this rare display of courage by fighting this cankerworm toe-to-toe but urges him to do more by ensuring there is, in fact, no sacred cow. You see, government, they often say is a continuum along dimensions and we do hope to build on Buhari’s antecedents by ensuring that we do not relent under any guise. GPN does not control any state at the moment. How do you intend to woo Nigerians to see the party as an alternative, especially considering the fact that there are over thirty political parties in the country? It is not in dispute that Nigeria and Nigerians need a new intriguing third force in Nigerian politics as experience has shown that the two dominant political parties namely the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that have each had a shot at the centre have not only failed Nigerians woefully but marvelously considering the myriad of problems plaguing Nigeria. We parade a broad spectrum of firebrand revolutionaries highly determined to abolish corruption, violence, insecurity, hunger, unemployment and the on-going ethnic agitations threatening our corporate existence. The Green Party of Nigeria under the dynamic leadership of Major Al-Mustapha has commenced effective mobilization at the grassroots across the country and over 11 million Nigerians in the Diaspora will be reached other things being equal to mobilize a potent political force to ensure our candidates win by a landslide. I can confidently tell you here that many political bigwigs across Nigeria have shown interest in our great party and have, in fact, girded up their loins with us for the circuitous journey to 2019. Rest assured the GPN will be the party to beat in the forthcoming general elections. https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/-apc-pdp-have-failed-nigerians.html

Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, National Chairman, the All Progressives Congress has assured members of the party that the exit of former Vice- President Atiku Abubakar from it will not affect it in anyway. He gave the assurance on Tuesday in Abuja when the Association of Former Chairmen, Councillors and Ward Leaders paid him a visit in Abuja. The APC national chairman further assured that Atiku’s exit from the party would not lead to massive defection from APC as being insinuated in some quarters in the country. “Let nobody fear that the defection of the former Vice President is going to lead to any deluge. “Don’t ever be afraid that there is going to be any massive defection. "As a matter of fact, the contrary is the case, APC is growing in strength on a daily basis,“ he said. Odigie-Oyegun called on members of the association not to be deceived by; “ the screaming and opposition rhetoric“, adding that everybody that mattered in the country, politically, was a member of APC. He maintained that there was no other party that was truly settled outside APC, adding that even the Peoples` Democratic Party (PDP) was not stable because it was still fighting to get a chairman. https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/atiku-s-defection-to-pdp-will-not-affect-apc-odigie-oyegun.html |
As the President Muhammadu Buhari begins his 2-day working visit to Kano today, fuel scarcity has hit the state resulting to cues at the few filling stations that have the commodity, Daily Trust can report. Daily Trust observed that motorists and other petrol users started experiencing fuel scarcity in the state metropolis since last Friday even though its price stood at N143 per liter. Our reporter, who went round the state metropolis, discovered that many filing stations were under lock and keys due to lack of fuel, while the few that have the commodity were battling with customers. A motorist, Muhammad Auwal described the development as unfortunate, saying “It is very unfortunate that Kano is experiencing fuel scarcity at the time President Muhammadu Buhari is visiting the state.” “I suspect that it is a deliberate effort to tarnish the image of the president politically. If not so why the scarcity will come at this time when the president is visiting the state and everybody knows that Kano is Buhari’s political stronghold.” Another driver, Isma’il Ibrahim blamed the Independent Marketers for the scarcity, saying the marketers wanted to create hardships to motorists. He said, “These people wanted to make us suffer and that is why they stopped the supply. It is unfortunate that the independent marketers just last week announced that they will ensure speedy and adequate supply of the commodity but instead of redeeming their pledge they completely stopped the supply.” When contacted, the Chairman, Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) Kano state branch, Alhaji Ahmad Bashir Danmalam, confirmed shortage of the community in the state, but said it was temporary. Danmalam explained that the shortage was caused by private refineries that stopped the supply of the community to the state few days ago. He said, “In addition to the shortage of supply, the private refineries have increased its price from N133 to N143. However, we were able to secure more supplies from Warri and Port-Harcourt refineries to address the situation. As am speaking to you now, 50 trucks are loading from Kano depot for onward distribution to various filling stations across the state,” he said. https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/fuel-scarcity-hits-kano.html

The National Coordinator of Yoruba Youth Alliance, Chief Jackson Lekan Ojo, has said ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar remains the best bet of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for winning the 2019 presidential election. Speaking with Daily Trust in Abuja, Ojo, who is also a security expert, said he would campaign for the Wazirin Adamawa if he came out to run for president. “It will be the best bet for PDP if Atiku wins the presidential ticket of the party because there is no better political tactician or strategist in the PDP than Atiku,” he said. He added that Atiku had the capacity to create wealth, saying Nigerians would go for him instead of President Muhammadu Buhari who allegedly caused so much poverty in the land. “There is no power of incumbency in Nigeria now. Jonathan was incumbent, yet he was defeated by Buhari whom Nigerians trusted he would offer them a better deal but he has failed. “He has only succeeded in creating poverty. In so many African countries, incumbent presidents have been defeated so everybody should know that Nigerian voters are wiser now and they don’t believe in the power of incumbency. “They would be voting for candidates and not political parties, so the issue of which party Atiku belongs to does not arise,” he said. Ojo, an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Osun State, said those who were castigating Atiku for dumping the APC for PDP did not understand Nigerian politics. https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/atiku-best-suited-as-pdp-presidential-candidate-ojo.html |

The senator who represented Ekiti North Senatorial District between 2007 and 201, Ayo Arise, has reportedly been kidnapped by suspected kidnappers. Reports said Arise was kidnapped alongside his driver on Sunday evening by gun men along Okene-Abuja highway while travelling in his Mercedez Jeep and ferried him to unknown destination . Sources said the abductors had however, contacted the family and demanded N80 million ransom before the victim could be released. Arise was the Chairman, Senate Committee on Privatization between 2007 and 2011 on the platform of the PDP after parting ways with Fayose in 2015 general election due to irreconcilable differences but had since defected to the APC on which platform he hopes to contest the coming governorship election. A family member, confided in our correspondent that Arise was abducted while returning to Abuja from Oye Ekiti, his country-home. The APC chieftain was said to have attended a ceremony at Ikere Ekiti on Saturday, where chieftaincy title was conferred on a retired Assistant Inspector General of Police, Mr. Tunde Ogunsakin. He later returned to Ado Ekiti and visited the golf course along Federal Polytechnic road before headed to his countryhome to see his political associates. One of his closest allies, who craved anonymity said: “Yes, he visited Ekiti State on Saturday before returning to Abuja. “When we wanted to establish contact with him, we could not. The last time I called him was around 6pm, so the kidnap must have taken place around 7 pm. “They have contacted us and demanded a sum of N80m ransom. We are worried because we don’t know his situation. “The family is working hard to secure his release and we have contacted all the relevant agencies including the police to come to our aid”, he said. https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/senator-arise-kidnapped-abductors-demand-n80m-ransom.html |
