eazyjakes:@what age?! |
Utin the acclaimed best left back in the NPFL look so ordinary through out the tournament... How some folks believed that he was the solution to SEs LB woes still baffles me. Bashir has potential. He made some good moves and initiated few attacks for the little time he was on the pitch. I wasn't disappointed... Please don't expect to much from the falcons too. Rohr's decision making will be the major determinant in Egypt. I still have trust that man. |
*SMILES* NOT DISAPPOINTED. You can't give what you don't have! Untill the NFF TECHNICAL TEAM fashion out a STYLE/PATTERN OF play that will be adopted by the whole National Teams, we will continue to underperform @ the biggest stage... One word for this team - 'CLUELESS' |
Hello house, I think it is high time we all agree to a particular unit/system of measurement when it comes to certain issues like player rankings. The words below average, average, above average, top player, excellent player, world class, legend etc should be well defined and where possible mathematically proofed/backed up. Reason for this is simple. I believe anyone who has grouped our players into classes has done so using his/her personal metrics which is based on their understanding and perception which might not be generally acceptable. The rating done in football is often on scale of {0-10} or {0%-100%} which afford the no 5 and 50 to be average mark. A pundit who uses 0-10scale can easily group players in to 5 classes {POOR(0-2.49), BELOW AVERAGE (2.50-4.99), AVERAGE(5), ABOVE AVERAGE(5.10-7.49) AND WORLD Class (7.5-10) while any one who uses just 1-3 or will likely have (BELOW AVERAGE, AVERAGE And WORLD Class) which is limited when the pool of players is much and wide. If I were to use the 0-10 scale, None of our players will make it to the World Class group. I repeat none. I'll place Ndidi in the 'top' of THE ABOVE AVERAGE group alongside Mikel, Iwobi slightly below them in the same group, The rest bunch of average and below average players. The World Class tag should only be left for the very few players that are consistently churning out great stats season in season out. The likes of Aguero, KDB, Modric, Chielini, VVD, Ramos, Kante Neymar, Cavani Suarez, Ibrahimovich, De Gea, Lloris, Mbappe, Salah, etc led by Messi and Ronaldo who occupy the very Top.) won't class the likes of Pogba, Vardy, Auba, as World Class, they might be close but they ain't. On the other hand. The word LEGENDARY IS RELATIVE! A player does not necessarily have to be world class to be a Legend. Even Green Forest FC(smiles) have their own Legends. Legendary status can be achieved via Loyalty, No of years of service, contribution etc. It can be attained either at club level or international level. Some players are lucky to have both. Bobby Charlton, Pirlo, Maradona, Pele etc Morgan, Vardy, are Leicester Legends but not world class, Keshi, Mikel are Nigeria legends but not world class! I hope this proposition and examples will help resolve various misconception and also save us from series of back and forth arguments. |
As much as we do not like to admit it, komekn and his friend have always been right... From Iheanacho, to bribery allegations against our local coaches, to league rankings, these two guys have been spot on... We often think they are sentimental in their discourse. Some tag them haters, tribalists, English asslikers... and so on. But repeatedly, they've been vindicated... I like how komekn handles those who oppose him. He back up and defend his opinions without resorting to insults and name callings... I think it will be good if forgiveness too can do same. TIME, overtime has proven these guys right. Still watching Solanke... The only thing they both seem not to get right yet. |
Fair group I must say. But we need not to throw caution outta the window cos no team is push over. All the best to the Lads. |
Omidiji is human first. So the frustration and disappointment ain't strange. I trust Manu's selection process beyond doubt. The boy will need to put in more effort if he is to play for any of our age grade teams or wait till he turns pro. No homegrown kid will ever allow such opportunity of making it big to slip off to the FBs so the reason for high competitiveness in camp. Finally, I must salute the two FBs for putting in great shift to make the cut. It's aint easy competing against hungry boys. They've made history as the first set of FBs to make it into the u-17s. |
Nigeria CIV Madagascar(Ahmad's factor) Tazania(Amuneke's factor) I see the above to be the trickest possible group Nigeria can find itself. |
Danielnino00:scoring 5 goals in 5 consecutive matches. Thanks for reminding him. |
TheGoodJoe:when did improving/developing a player becomes the job of a national team coach. The NT is not a grooming center. That's why I am not in support of Samu joining the team for AFCON when there are options of playing for the age grade teams(where grooming takes place). Players are invited to the national team to replicate their club performances. It's either you deliver or you are out. These set of players are even lucky. Imagine If Obagoal, had received half of the repeated chances given to nacho and Ighalo to redeem themselves. I bet you he would have been our second all time goal scorer just behind Yeking. Nacho and Ighalo have enjoyed a very rare grace. Just think of it. They both went 1year as Eagle's striker without a goal. Yet they were always the first on the list. How many days do the players spend with these coaches when on national assignments. So cut Rohr{though not fan of his) some slack. If we are to go by your claim, it is better he stay out of the national team till the time Rohr sees out his contract. |
How time flies! Can't believe that the same set of people who stood vehemently against the idea of Nacho been dropped from the national team immediately after the world cup are now in support of the motion. I remember them calling us haters(still don't know who brought that word to this thread- one of the reasons I lost interest in commenting). But I believe that those who want him out them were his true supporters. I wanted him out so he could buckle up in his club and earn his place in the national team before Afcon 19. Making it now looks like a mirage. I hope he discover his old self. S. MOSES, CHUKWUEZE, HENRY, S. KALU I'll pick Simon Moses ahead of Samu, Henry and S. Kalu. I don't know how we forget things quickly. Is it not the same Simon that was instrumental to our World Cup Qualification? Oh. His pairing with V. Moses on the flanks was beauty to watch. It was painful seeing him missing out at the Mundial. His wealth of experience and understanding of African football will come to play at Afcon. So why drop him! Of a truth, Samu has potential and that is it for now - POTENTIAL. I'll rather have him drafted to the U-20 world cup. He can continue his development there. He needs it more than anyother things Note: He hasn't even reach Nacho's first professional year Stat(14goals and 8 assist or so in lesser time) . Still waiting for end of season before I pass my judgement on the lad. |
Congratulations to the boys and all sports loving Nigerians! |
elyte89:I de here o my man. How your side? |

mostob:I think he is right! Speed(pace) and finishing is what Modern day football is all about. |
elyte89:They will. |
Afobear:Fine fine players, added to the list are Zlatan Ibrahimovich Andre Pirlo Ribery Neuer Ramos All amazing players in the last decade |
FIFA and The French Ballon D'or organizers should apologize to Wesley Sneidjer. As he was what Modric is in 2010. Champions League trophy with Inter Milan World Cup Finalist with Netherland Italian Serie A winner Scudetto champion Etc. But Messi was chosen ahead of him. Congrats to Luka Modric. World Best Player! Happy for him. Well deserved. Normalty is been restored to the award. Football is not all about the scorers. There are players who work harder to make their teams win and they have been overlooked over the years due to Messi- Ronaldo strong football influence. Once again congrats to the man Luka Modric. #From Agba Awo to Agbaye! |

I'll suggest that Africa as a whole should have a single team representing it at the next world cup. That way, we will stand a chance of unsettling the world football order. Imagine Salah, Mane, Auba, Mahrez leading the attack, Ndidi, Keita, Iwobi as Midfielders, Balogun, Koulibaly, at the heart of defense in a single team. |
Kylian Mbappe When will a Nigerian player make the top 50 Ballon d'or nomination list?
|
do4luv14:you have just heard the truth which is based on what I saw. The Super Falcons lacked bite in attack for a whole of 30 mins of extra time football. They were dominated and even more looked uncoordinated. The only good thing was that we were lucky to win. |
Congratulations to the Super Falcons of Nigeria on their qualification to the 2019 Women’s World Cup! |
The Cameroonians are delight to watch! Penalties! I'll like Cameroon to qualify for the World Cup alongside Nigeria. If they continue this way I see him causing upset at the World Cup proper. |
We need to have Football Identity! The French U-20 WOMEN'S team will beat this SFs |
Just joining now : the Cameroonians are playing good football. |
tbaba1234:This guy is Joel Obi 2.0 |
KevinDein:It is still early. Based on his age, I'll give it to Iheanacho. Chukwueze is a gem-ain't gonna argue that. But hasn't done half of what Nacho did in his first professional season at 19too Don't forget, it only took Nacho 4 minutes to get get his first professional goal for city and less than 20 minutes to double it. He went on to score 14 goals from 16 shots on target that same season, No Nigeria player in recent time has made the kinda rave Nacho made during his first pro - season. So, on Chukwueze been the biggest talent Nigeria has produced since Mikel, I'll have to wait till May 2019. |
ChrisKels:*smiles* both were in the same commentary box yesterday when Tottenham hosted Chelsea at Wembley. |
Earthquake2:You nailed it. That's one of the reason I want him to be excused from the NT. He needs to find his WHY? One or two omission(s) from Eagles camp might do wonders and probably could be enough reason for him to work harder. He is one player I had and still have so much expectation on. Remember those days when his training clips under Pellegrini were posted here. The Talent is there - no doubt about that. Remember one classic bicycle kick he scored that made the whole Manchester City players and their coaching crew then clap for him. He seems to be lazy these days or perhaps complacent. I hope he gets his Mojo back. Then, it was Martial, Rashford and Kelechi. The Manchester Boys making front page of newspapers before the arrival of Mbappe. But these three fell asleep at the same time and they've been pushed out of the newspaper. Martial is the only one of the three fighting his way back into relevance. I wish Kelechi well. |
ChrisKels:Na only you de see am like that. Baba Rohr no de see such. We could have easily cap-tie Eze who hasn't future for any English grade teamsbut we are patiently waiting for the boy to move to Tottenham or any of the top ten English clubs before we begin to wrestle him with the Football Association. |
