1. SQL It’s no surprise SQL (pronounced ‘sequel’) tops the job list since it can be found far and wide in various flavors. Database technologies such as MySQL, PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server power big businesses, small businesses, hospitals, banks, universities. Indeed, just about every computer and person with access to technology eventually touches something SQL. For instance, all Android phones and iPhones have access to a SQL database called SQLite and many mobile apps developed Google, Skype and DropBox use it directly. 2. Java The tech community recently celebrated the 20 anniversary of Java. It’s one of the most widely adopted programming languages, used by some 9 million developers and running on 7 billion devices worldwide. It’s also the programming language used to develop all native Android apps. Java’s popularity with developers is due to the fact that the language is grounded in readability and simplicity. Java has staying power since it has long-term compatibility, which makes sure older applications continue to work now into the future. It’s not going anywhere anytime soon and is used to power company websites like LinkedIn.com, Netflix.com and Amazon.com. 3. JavaScript JavaScript – not to be confused with Java – is another one of the world’s most popular and powerful programming languages, and is used to spice up web pages by making them interactive. For example, JavaScript can be used to add effects to web pages, display pop-up messages or to create games with basic functionality. It’s also worth noting that JavaScript is the scripting language of the World Wide Web and is built right into all major web browsers including Internet Explorer, FireFox and Safari. Almost every website incorporates some element of JavaScript to add to the user experience, adding to the demand for JavaScript developers. In recent years JavaScript has also gained use as the foundation of Node.js, a server technology that among other things enables real-time communication. 4. C# Dating from 2000, C# (pronounced C-sharp) is a relatively new programming language designed by Microsoft for a wide range of enterprise applications that run on the .NET Framework. An evolution of C and C++, the C# language is simple, modern, type safe and object oriented. 5. C++ C++ (pronounced C-plus-plus) is a general purpose object-oriented programming language based on the earlier ‘C’ language. Developed by Bjarne Stroustrup at Bell Labs, C++ was first released in 1983. Stroustrup keeps an extensive list of applications written in C++. The list includes Adobe and Microsoft applications, MongoDB databases, large portions of Mac OS/X and is the best language to learn for performance-critical applications such as “twitch” game development or audio/video processing. 6. Python Python is a general purpose programming language that was named after the Monty Python(so you know it’s fun to work with)! Python is simple and incredibly readable since closely resembles the English language. It’s a great language for beginners, all the way up to seasoned professionals. Python recently bumped Java as the language of choice in introductory programming courses with eight of the top 10 computer science departments now using Python to teach coding, as well as 27 of the top 39 schools. Because of Python’s use in the educational realm, there are a lot of libraries created for Python related to mathematics, physics and natural processing. PBS, NASA and Reddit use Python for their websites. 7. PHP Created by Danish-Canadian programmer Rasmus Lerdorf in 1994, PHP was never actually intended to be a new programming language. Instead, it was created to be a set of tools to help Rasmus maintain his Personal Home Page (PHP). Today, PHP (Hypertext Pre-Processor) is a scripting language, running on the server, which can be used to create web pages written in HTML. PHP tends to be a popular languages since its easy-to use by new programmers, but also offers tons of advanced features for more experienced programmers. 8. Ruby On Rails Like Java or the C language, Ruby is a general purpose programming language, though it is best known for its use in web programming, and Rails serves as a framework for the Ruby Language. Ruby on Rails has many positive qualities including rapid development, you don’t need as much code, and there are a wide variety of 3 party libraries available. It’s used from companies ranging from small start-ups to large enterprises and everything in-between. Hulu, Twitter, Github and Living Social are using Ruby on Rails for at least one of their web applications. 9. iOS/Swift In 2014, Apple decided to invent their own programming language. The result was Swift – a new programming language for iOS and OS X developers to create their next killer app. Developers will find that many parts of Swift are familiar from their experience of developing in C++ and Objective-C. Companies including American Airlines, LinkedIn, and Duolingo have been quick to adopt Swift, and we’ll see this language on the rise in the coming years. Any great craftsman has a belt full of tools, each a perfect choice for certain situations. Similarly, there will never be just a single programming language, and each language will evolve and improve over time to keep pace with innovation. SOURCE: codingdojo.com |

Ahead of his final Germany appearance, Bastian Schweinsteiger said Tuesday he will not give up on his dream of playing again for Manchester United — despite his exile by Jose Mourinho. Germany’s friendly against Finland in Moenchengladbach on Wednesday doubles as Schweinsteiger’s farewell on his 121st – and final – international appearance when he will captain die Mannschaft for the last time. The 32-year-old, who left Bayern Munich for Manchester in 2015, has a United contract running until 2018, but new coach Mourinho banished him to the Under-23 team early this month, insisting the soon-to-be ex-Germany captain is not in his plans. Schweinsteiger says he will keep waiting for his chance at Old Trafford and insisted that he has ‘no problem’ with Mourinho. “My absolute dream would be to play for Manchester United and help them reach their goals,” said Schweinsteiger at a German FA (DFB) press conference in Duesseldorf. “I have had conversations (with the club) and I have no problem with Jose Mourinho, he has explained the situation to me from his perspective. “We have to wait to see what happens in September and October and how things will develop, but I will definitely not stop playing football.” While Schweinsteiger will bide his time in Manchester, he said a move to USA and the North American league (MLS) could be an option in the future. “The transfer window has already closed (in the MLS), so there’s nothing there,” said Schweinsteiger. “My dream remains to play for Manchester United. “Mourinho showered (the 34-year-old Zlatan) Ibrahimovic with praise for still playing and if I get a fair chance, I believe in my abilities. “It would be a dream to once more show the (Man Utd) fans what I can do. “In the last year, things went well (at Man Utd) until I was banned (from the first-team). “We have to see how the situation goes, but of course the USA is an option.” Schweinsteiger says he is not letting the situation at Old Trafford get him down and that he has experienced worst moments in his career. “I believe that things are good with me, despite the current situation,” he said. “When I think about the Champions League final in Munich (when Bayern lost to Chelsea on penalties in 2012), that was more difficult to get over. “I’ve mellowed and know how to deal with these situations. “The football business is not only highs, but also lows, it is a hard business and not just on the sports side.” Just over half of the 43,000 tickets, costing between 25-75 euros ($28-$83), have been sold for the match in Moenchengladbach with Schweinsteiger set to bow out after more than 12 years in the famous white shirt. “I am looking forward to the evening,” he said. “I know that the stadium perhaps won’t be full, but I will be pleased to see every fan who comes to the game, the atmosphere and singing the national anthem. “I don’t know how many minutes I’ll be able to play. “I haven’t played a game yet (this season), so I don’t know how the lungs will hold up.” Loew has said he will only name Schweinsteiger’s replacement as Germany captain after the Finland international. Bayern trio Manuel Neuer, who was skipper for five of their six Euro 2016 matches, Jerome Boateng and Thomas Mueller are all vying for the armband with Neuer as the favourite.

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Monday commissioned the newly rehabilitated fuel dump for the State Police Command, just as he reiterated his unwavering commitment to keep Lagos safe, secured and uncomfortable for criminal elements and their collaborators. The facility, which has 33,000 litres capacity for both diesel and premium motor spirit (petrol), was rehabilitated by the State Government for the purpose of dispensing fuel to vehicles used for patrol and surveillance activities by the Police in the State.Speaking at the commissioning, Governor Ambode, who was represented by the Commissioner for Special Duties and Inter- Governmental Relations, Mr. Oluseye Oladejo, said provision of the facility was in line with his administration's determination to further enhance security of lives and property in the State. He said: "Since our inauguration, we have left nobody in doubt about our commitment to keep our State safe and secured. We have demonstrated commitment to this course through massive investment and the provision of modern security equipment to strengthen the crime fighting capacity of security agencies, especially the State Police Command. "Till date, we have empowered security agencies with 100 Saloon Cars, 195 Ford Ranger Pick Ups, 10 Toyota Land Cruiser Hilux and several others. "These were provided with the main objective of facilitating mobility of officers within the nooks and crannies of the State. "With this dedicated facility, the State Government has once again made a clear statement of its determination to make Lagos uncomfortable for criminals and their collaborators," he said. The Governor said he was not oblivious of the fact that the major requirement for efficient running of vehicles is regular fuel supply and maintenance, adding that such necessitated the approval he gave for the revamping of the old and dilapidated fuel dump at the State Police Command. While expressing delight at the completion of the rehabilitation and handing over to the police, Governor Ambode urged the State Command to ensure adequate monitoring, as well as usage of the fuel only for the purpose intended. Besides, Governor Ambode assured the State's Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni of the readiness of the State Government to sufficiently service the facility for a 24/7 mobility of security vehicles. Earlier, Owoseni thanked Governor Ambode for once again demonstrating that he is a worthy partner, adding that the commissioning and handing over of the facility was a milestone to the Police. "The State Government has been at the forefront of supporting us both in terms of equipment and logistics. On behalf of the Inspector General of Police, I want to specially thank Governor Ambode and the State Government for supporting us in fueling the vehicles provided for us. "We want to assure the good people of Lagos that we recognise that to whom much is given, much is expected. We will reciprocate this kind gesture by redoubling our efforts in other to make Lagos safer and more secured,"Owoseni assured. |
