A female student of Government Secondary School, has been saved from kidnappers by a hawker.A student of Government Secondary School was saved from the hands of kidnappers by a hawker in Abuja. The concerned citizen identified as Mr Daura Usman, intervened when a motorist attempted to kidnap a female student identified as Tudun Wada, on her way to school on Tuesday, November 1, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports. According to the reports, the incident took place along Ibrahim Babangida Way in Wuse Zone 4. Usman claimed to have seen a man come out of the backseat of a Sienna minibus and walk towards Tundun, before carrying her and attempting to put her inside the vehicle. The brave hawker said, “The man walked straight to her as if he knew her and I expected a confrontation. “At first, I thought he would confront her because she was outside the school premises during school hours, but he just lifted her by the waist and made his way toward the car. “She began screaming, so I quickly dropped my things and ran to confront the suspected kidnapper. “The man noticed that people were coming around so he left her and got into the sienna which sped off on the Central Mosque Express Way. “We thank Allah that she is now safe and we thank Him for his mercy." In recent times, child kidnappings have become rampant which usually lead to gruesome discoveries. The general public has been advised to stay alert at all times as to avoid being taken unawares. Phones › Glo Unveils Borrow Me Data, 11k/sec Tariff, 2 Other Products by Aiholi(op): 11:12pm On Nov 01, 2016*. Modified: 10:30am On Nov 02, 2016 |
In keeping with its commitment to continually empower its subscribers with affordable and innovative telecommunications products and services, Globacom has launched a new product, Glo Borrow Me Data and reloaded three other existing products.Globacom announced this at a press conference in Lagos on Tuesday and said all the four products offer benefits unmatched in the telecom industry.
The three reloaded products are Double Free Tomorrow, Gbam Plus 11k per second and IDD Packs. The new product, Glo Borrow Me Data, allows subscribers to borrow Data credit of up to 2GB whenever their data bundles are exhausted and they have no airtime balance to recharge their data plan or in cases of unsuccessful subscription bundle activation due to low balance.
Globacom’s Head, Usage and Retention, Sola Mr. Arowogbadamu , said eligibility criterion for the offer includes how long a customer has been on the network and average monthly data usage. Customers can subscribe to Borrow Me Data by dialling *321# and following the menu options. The service will then push real time Data credit to all eligible subscribers in line with the stated eligibility criterion. The customer will repay the Data credit whenever airtime recharge is made.
The next offer, Double Free Tomorrow, gives back to the subscriber 200% of whatever is spent on calls, SMS or data today to use for free the next day. In the re-loaded offer, Globacom calculates all the value of airtime a subscriber used in a day for internet services, phone calls and SMS, and credits the subscriber’s phone with double this value at the start of the next day. Effectively, this means that subscribers will now receive back, the following day, double the airtime used in a day for calls, internet browsing and SMS.
Mr. Arowogbadamu said the bonus can be used for practically anything including browsing or calls and SMS to Glo and non-Glo lines. The bonus can also be used for International calls to popular countries such as US, UK (fixed), Canada, China and India. The offer is open to all existing and new prepaid customers on the Glo network and other subscribers who crave good value for money. “With Glo Double Free Tomorrow, customers get back double benefits free the next day. In other words, when they spend more today, they get much more tomorrow. For instance, if a subscriber on the Glo network uses N500 credit in a day on calls, SMS and data, Glo will give back N1,000 credit to the subscriber the very next day to call all networks, SMS and browse free,” he stated.
To enjoy the service, subscribers are to dial *300#. He also said that the third offer, 11k/s for All, is the best prepaid plan in the Nigerian telecoms market. It described it as a simple flat tariff plan which allows customers enjoy heavily reduced call rate on local and international calls. Under the plan, calls are charged at 11k/s to all local networks and for international calls to 30 top destinations.
The destinations include United Kingdom, United States, Canada, South Africa, India, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Israel and Australia. Others are Bangladesh, Brunei, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, French Guiana, Guam, Luxembourg, Malta, Mongolia, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Puerto Rico, Reunion Island, Romania and Singapore. The company said that new and existing customers can enjoy the unbelievable call rate which comes at a daily access fee of N5 by dialling *211# to migrate to the plan.
Globacom assured Nigerians that more benefits await customers who port from other networks into its network as they will enjoy a welcome bonus of N500 Glo-Glo talk time and N500MB data upon first single denomination recharge of N500 or higher. They will also get 500MB complimentary data for the next six months after joining Glo, provided they use a minimum of N1,500 monthly.
The company also announced the introduction of New IDD Packs which is the best deal in the country and covers calls made from Nigeria to 30 major international destinations for as low as N6.60 per minute. The bundles are designed to match the recharge denominations and include IDD 100, IDD 200, IDD 500 and IDD 1,000. The IDD 100 gives the subscriber 12 minutes of call valid for 3 days, while IDD 200 gives 24 call minutes for 7 days. The IDD 500 bundle gives 60 minutes of call for 14 days, while the fourth bundle, IDD 1000, will avail the user 150 call minutes valid for 30 days.
According to Globacom, the 30 destinations covered by the new IDD packs include United States, United Kingdom, Canada, South Africa, India, China and Japan. http://opera.pulse.ng/gist/globacom-glo-unveils-borrow-me-data-11k-sec-tariff-2-other-products-id5691798.htmlcc: Lalasticlala, mynd44, Seun

Nairaland General › Niger Delta Elders Meeting With FG Will Not Stop Bombing – Militants by Aiholi(op): 10:53pm On Nov 01, 2016 |
Chukwudi Akasike, Port Harcourt
Niger Delta militants have described Tuesday’s meeting with the Federal Government by some stakeholders in the region as an exercise that will not put an end to the attacks on oil facilities.
The agitators stated that none of the stakeholders chosen to be part of the meeting with the Federal Government was aware of the plight of the Niger Delta people.
Speaking through separate statements, the Niger Delta Peoples Democratic Front and the Concerned Militant Leaders, expressed dissatisfaction that no former militant leader was among those chosen to be part of representatives of the region in the meeting with government.
Leaders of the two groups, General Ben and General Playboy maintained that such a meeting without any recognised former Niger Delta militant would not protect the interest of the people of the region. They also doubted the Federal Government’s sincerity on the $10bn development fund to be earmarked for the Niger Delta. “Pipeline bombing cannot stop because the people going for the meeting do not know why they are going there. It is not the first, second, or third time and would not be the last. So, we cannot be deceived or bamboozled by whatever tag is given to the meeting. “We insist on implementation of the report of the National Conference and other reports on the development of Niger Delta region. Anything short of this is insincere and will not be accepted. For a genuine peace, past reports of several commissions on Niger Delta must be visited,” they said.
General Playboy specifically said, “Our elders and leaders are not helping matters at all. They do not really know the plight of Niger Delta people because they are wealthy, quite rich and do not take issues about the region seriously. “They do not know the common people in the region because they are not based in Niger Delta and cannot show holistic commitment to our struggle. Our elders represent themselves, and not the people in the rural areas. “We don’t need people who will play politics with the genuine struggle of Niger Delta people. We don’t want people, who are not agitators.
The real agitators are people like Alhaji Asari Dokubo, High Chief Government Tompolo, Egberipapa, General Africa, General Joshua and many others. “These are the kind of people that can negotiate for our people. They know the plights of the Niger Delta people because they live in the same environment with them. They are not based abroad. They come down to the communities to know the feelings of the people. Such people should represent us.”
He (General Playboy), however, noted that their position did not mean that they were disrespectful to the elders in the region, insisting that they (elders) were not needed at the meeting with the Federal Government. http://punchng.com/ndelta-elders-meeting-fgll-not-stop-bombing-militants/

Nairaland General › Naira Remains At 470 As Dollar Shortage Continues by Aiholi(op): 7:13am On Nov 01, 2016 |
Oyetunji Abioye The naira closed flat at 470 against the United States dollar on Monday, the same level it recorded on Friday. The naira had plunged to 470 on Wednesday, down from 455 on Tuesday as fresh dollar shortage hit the official and parallel forex markets. The local currency, which had been relatively stable against the greenback, fell last week as fresh scarcity hit the forex markets. Travelex and First Bank of Nigeria Limited commenced sale of foreign exchange to Bureau De Change operators some weeks ago following the approval by the Central Bank of Nigeria. Forex traders, however, said last week that the scheme had failed to ease the biting dollar shortage in the country. “What we get from Travelex is not sufficient,” one trader told Reuters, referring to demand in the market. At the official market, the naira closed at 305.50 per dollar, a level it had closed for more than two months, supported by the CBN interventions. The President, Association of Bureau De Change Operators, Alhaji Aminu Gwadabe, told our correspondent on Monday that the sale of dollars to the BDC operators had yet to get across the country. This, he said, was partly responsible for the fresh dollar scarcity. “There are still logistics problems in selling forex to all the BDC operators. This is what is causing this relative scarcity,” he said. Earlier, the CBN asked the International Money Transfer Operators to sell dollars directly to the BDC operators to boost liquidity and narrow the gulf between the parallel market and the official market rates. Travelex sells around $15,000 to 1,000 retail currency outlets weekly, but the amount is a fraction of what is required to cover demand from individuals and small businesses. Dollar shortages have caused many companies to halt operations and lay off workers, compounding an economic crisis exacerbated by the fall in global prices of oil, which accounts for 70 per cent of Nigeria’s budget revenue. The CBN has struggled to support the naira as the nation’s external reserves continue to fall. Traders said the naira had been testing new lows as they tried to find thresholds where liquidity could begin to return. http://punchng.com/naira-remains-470-dollar-shortage-continues/Lalasticlala good morning |
