Politics / Re: Terror List: Close Islamic Schools And Be Delisted - Us Tells Nigeria by aikuda(m): 11:30pm On Jan 09, 2010
You're missing the point. I have asked pointedly . . . why are muslims seemingly the only ones in the world reacting to "injustice"? Why are blacks not reacting with terrorism to slavery? Why would a Jordanian be worried about Afghanistan up to the point of giving his life? What is the business of a 23yr old Nigerian with Iraq? Did America invade Jordan or Nigeria at any point?

Why is this dangerous form of extremism exclusive to muslims the world over? What is it about muslims in Sudan, Nigeria, Somalia, Yemen, Iran that makes them all bay for American and Israeli blood? Who did injustice to them?

And pls enough of the false relativism . . . christians are not drawn into this "feud". Call a spade a spade.

Christains in northern ireland have and continue to resort to terrorism to protest injustices. Blacks in the united states carried out many terrorist activities in their fight against disrimination. And not all Muslims are engaged in trrorism. Check your facts.

davidylan: I truly understand that many Muslims are not happy with America for their total support of Israel. I'm a christian, and I understand that history. But My point is that there are many muslims and christians who are drawn into this feud because of this kind of injustices. People don't haver to bomb planes to protest. Extemism does not start in one day. I don't care about the fight between Isreal and muslims. But I care if my counrty is being disrespected for no good reason.
Politics / Re: Terror List: Close Islamic Schools And Be Delisted - Us Tells Nigeria by aikuda(m): 11:07pm On Jan 09, 2010
"America has committed two crimes:

1. Merely daring to exist

2. Supporting Israel.

These are the ONLY 2 reasons islamists will continue attempting to destroy it. It has nothing to do with "injustice"."

So you do not think that blacklisting Nigeria for this singular act that did not even originate from Nigeria, and ignoring the many active terror cells in the Uk injustice?
I'm nit saying they should not fight terrorism, but they should be fair. They jsut told us to go to hell that they can do whatever they want because they are powerful. Its this kind of messages that breeds hatred towards America. I hope they understand where their problem is coming from and correct.
Politics / Re: Terror List: Close Islamic Schools And Be Delisted - Us Tells Nigeria by aikuda(m): 10:54pm On Jan 09, 2010
My only fear is that this is only going to make things worse. It is this kind of discriminatory practices against less powerful countries that created this problem of terrorism for America in the first place. Many Nigerians (christians and muslims) have all joined in condenming this cowardly act by a nigerian that was groomed in Britain and blessed in Yemen to attack America. And now what do we get from Obama and his people? That all Nigerians are terrorists that should harrassed. I have said before that Obama will not be good for Africa, and no body listened to me. He will trample upong Aficans and Blacks just appear non-dicriminatory to white American because he wants to win elections.

While most Nigerian hate terrorism, this injustice will only make terror sympathisers grow in Nigeria. Alqaeda will simply tell them: "you see, we told you how unjust these people are. They dont care about you." If they are wise and want to win friends and not create terrorist, they should reverse this injustice with immediate effect. It is counter productive.

Who says the morons in nigeria political power seat can't blacklist the US any ways. I say we retaliate. At least make a point. Nigerians are many things but we are not terrorist. We love life.
Romance / Re: Is It Compulsory To Wash Your Husband's Clothes? by aikuda(m): 2:49pm On Jan 03, 2010
I think I really like this topic. Even though many of us are taking our views to the extreme, but one thing is clear: there is something about washing clothes (even their own) that scares some Nigerian men, especially when they are married. I can understand that. Its a cultural thing. However, its culture that is changing with many young Nigerian men. Most men will readily do other house chores apart from washing their woman's clothing. In some places in Nigeria, they call a man that washes clothes at home a "woman wrapper" (a derogatory term for refering to a man who is inferior to his wife).

In a typical Nigerian home, imagine what will happen, if a man sits outside washing a pile of clothes beside him while the wife is resting inside (even though it is because she is exhausted from doing other work), and the man's sister/mother and even mother in-law comes in. What do you think they will say in most cases.

My point is that the ladies should cut the guys that are really against washing clothes some slack (not that I agree with the way some are expressing their views). But you can help your man to shed this insecurity by encouraging him. Being authoritative won't work. I think any smart woman can get her man to do almost do anything for her.

As educated people, and city dwellers with access to the internet, its easy for us to argue this. Many women in the villages would consider it an abomination if their husbands attempt to wash their clothes. Also, there are many men who wants to help their wives by doing house chores, but think its a social suicide. My point is (don't know if I still have one) is that I agree with people that says are all relationship are not the same. Let's try to see from the other person's perspectives no matter how right we think we are on this issue.

"I am glad that there are young men( permit me to call you young) that think the way you do. We need more of em"

Lol. Sure, you can call me that. I like to believe that there many reasonable young men (and women) out there. Everyone responds well to being treated well and trusted.

Chika98, thanks for the compliment. You've clearly displayed a good understanding of the issues yourself.

Outstrip, you are so lucky to have such a dad. I wish all men have such role model in their lives. There is pride in being independent!

Sugarbelly, you sound really angry. Many of the things you said are true, but I disagree with your seeming generalization about all men being complicit in the allegded evil against womankind. I'm sure some women also feel differently about your position.

As I mentioned in my earlier post, many women do house chores out of love and respect for their husbands. You are absolutely right about many women working harder than some men.  I also agree with you that we are quick to use religion to butress our point in defense of our inadequacies. But both men and women are guilty of this.
Politics / Re: Yar’adua Not With Us - Saudi Hospital by aikuda(m): 10:19pm On Jan 02, 2010
This is so sad. Although i have always said it was too early to ask Yar'adua to resign, but this is not looking good at all. Ofcourse people (aides and family) know where the man is, but Nigerians have the right to know if their elected (selected) president is getting better or still alive.

This is shameful. The shame is that people are not demanding in stronger terms for the whereabout of the president. The officials need to be pressured to come up with the truth.
Romance / Re: Is It Compulsory To Wash Your Husband's Clothes? by aikuda(m): 9:50pm On Jan 02, 2010
Washing your partner's clothes shouldn't be a big deal. Whoever has the time should do it. A good husband should be attentive enough to know when to help out with the domestic chores. We should also remember that most women do these things out of love and respect for their husband.

And please lets' be clear that not everyone has washing machine. People still smash their clothes on tree stumps by the rivershore. It takes a very secure man to take up non-traditional male chores at home. As a man, try cooking, washing, and cleaning at home, and you will see how rewarding it is. Its not a bid deal!!!!
Politics / Re: Nigeria Airports To Buy 3-d Full Body Scanners by aikuda(m): 3:27pm On Jan 02, 2010
I understand why people are up in arms against the 3-D Scanner projects when we have our own numerous problems in Nigeria. But the truth is that we do not want to be seen as a country that does not take the fight against terrorism seriously. It is not only what that perception might do to our image, it also about how terrorists might begin to think that Nigeria is a safe ground and route for planning and executing terrorist activities. Trust me that is not good for anyone of us. It has many econimic, social, and political implications not only for the nigerian govt but for individual travelers and businesses in nigeria. We already have bad press enough.

Not that I think that this project will be successful, but it is a good PR for all of us. Ofcourse, like many Nairalanders have said, the money will be siphoned by annonymous contractors and politicians, and we will never hear of the project again. But for now the PR is good for us.
Politics / Re: Breaking News: Another Nigerian Arrested On Same Detroit Route! by aikuda(m): 1:06pm On Jan 01, 2010
As for those calling for the break up of Nigeria, I do understand your sentiments. But how is this going to really help us? Show me one area of Nigeria where there is no form of tension within. Do you think if we the southerners breakaway there is going to be total peace between, for instance, the Yorubas and the Ibos. Or that the Edos the Ijaws, the Calabars , the Urhobos won't have cause to complain in southern Nigeria?

Let's not deceive ourselves by placing the problem of Nigeria on the shoulders of Northers ( I'm not saying leadership from that ending have not been more than disappointing). The problem we have is that we are afraid of change. We are insecure. Only the younger generations can bring change to Nigeria through reasobale debates, political participations, peaceful protests, and faith in Nigeria. How do we go about acheiving all these? I don't know! But I know many others do.

"Having said that, I think its time that we as Nigerians start to make constructive arguements and not resort to ethnic bashing!!!, I therefore apologise for all my comments in this thread against my eastern Nigerian brothers, we cannot paint a whole set of people by the actions of a few!!!!"

That is it my brother. Only people with tired ideas resorts to stereotypes. Let's remember that every Nigerian post online constitute a major part of the way we are seen by others.  Like other countries, Most Nigerians are hard working and honest people. Nigerians are not terrorists (what does it mean anyway?), Nigerians are not fraudstters, and Nigerians are not drug dealers. At least not in any way close to the Americans and the British!
Politics / Re: Breaking News: Another Nigerian Arrested On Same Detroit Route! by aikuda(m): 1:00pm On Dec 31, 2009
I am very disappointed about all these ethnic bashing. There is nothing wrong with healthy debates based on reason, but to reduce to these sorts of tribalistic ultra sentiments is something I don't get. It is especially more troubling the way the younger generations are copying their fathers in this regard. What right do you have to question nigeria politicians for our failures if we we engage in the same thing that is the root of our problems. We can argue, but make we try to dey respect each other.

As a strong advocate for the environment, I welcome any attempt to sanitize lagos. My only concern is the motive behind this 'intervention.' I hpe is not just about collecting money from the 'poor' man of God and harrasing him. Even at that Pastor Chris should continue to be a shining example to Nigerians by ensuring that all his properties are managed in accordance with the law. Nigerians should learn to respect Nigerians laws.
