Degree is always better in IT. It shows that you are disciplined enough to go through a five year academic exercise. One major thing people learn in the university is how to solve problems. That's why you spend five years reading books, writing quizzes/exams and executing projects. Get a degree, it is very important. |

Hi Sandra, No, it is not compulsory to take a call centre licence. However to start a call centre in Nigeria requires a few steps: register a BPO firm This you can do yourself at the Corporate affairs commissions office or hire an agent to do that for you get an office Get a physical office if your are gonna have all your agents work form one location setup the call centre Since most modern call centres are VOIP based, I'd suggest you get a VOIP consultant to help you set up the call centre then hire and train your agents and supervisor(s) Here I'd suggest you get a workforce manager to help you with this. The reason being that he/she will also help you work out shifts, SLA etc finally get your customers You already know how you're gonna do this IMPORTANT: We are a call centre engineering firm and we can give you a very affordable, very reliable and easily scalable call centre solution. Hi all, I am here as clear example. I graduated with a 3rd class in elect/elect and I am not trying in any way to hold brief for anybody who is plagued by the same dilemma. I must also admit here that my coming out with a third class was not the fault of the system. 100% I am responsible for what I have. While I was still in the university, I basically was creating my own rules; choosing to read some big books in library instead of my little handout; not doing my assignments nor writing the periodic quizzes given by the lecturers (hoping to score a whiz bang 80% in Exams since I was the bright guy); and on and on and on, By the time I left the university with a third class, I had come to realize my mistake but there was nothing I could do about it. My not so bright friends who managed to get 2-2 by "fire by force" were already getting cool jobs, while I was still trying to find my feet. Even members of my extended family who saw me as some bright dude were beginning to question my intellectual pedigree. Infact to everybody I was not fit to be called a graduate. However, I realized that I needed to do something; I had to fight back. I picked up what pieces that was left of my life and started my journey into the labour jungle. The first job I applied for I was not even invited. The second one I was invited and after the series of interview, only I was taken. The next Job I applied for was for people with 2-1 and again only I was taken. God so kind it has always been like this ever since. You may be wondering how I got to change a situation so bad as my fate after graduation to a success story. Wonder no more. These are exactly what I did: 1, Look for the kind of job you really want to do and the sort of place you really want to work. In my case I listed MTN, GLO, NLNG, SHELL, Major Airlines. 2, Find out what the employers want and compare them with what you have at the moment. You will notice that all of these employers want 2-1 and you do not have that. But the good thing is that there are other requirements apart from the 2-1. Work on those requirements. Example: Job Title ======>Core Network Engineer Requirements===>Graduate of Electrical or Computer Engineer, 2-1, 3+ years at position of IP network engineer, networking, servers, UNIX & Windows OS, CISCO knowledge, responsibility, sense for detail, accuracy, proactivity, self-activity. If you are already like me, the only thing I do not have here is a 2-1 and 3+ years IP n/w experience. But any good recruiter will forgive you that sin, if you're able to prove that you know your onions with the rest. 3, Train for the job I started training for comptia Network+. After that I trained for server+, then I moved to Unix. On completing Unix I moved to Cisco, which we did with windows server. By the time I was done, I was already a marketable commodity. 4, Learn a Foreign Language This will broaden you horizon. So if you learn French you can work in French speaking country like Cameroon, Niger, Togo, etc The truth is that if you graduated with a third class, you can rewrite your own story and you can work anywhere; all you need is a good planning and careful implementation. A least I am living evidence. Good Luck. ![]() |

I do not know if any other person has experienced this. Recently, I bought a pack of food from a Mr. Biggs outlet at Maryland and I ended up not eating the chicken inside because it was burnt to the point that it tasted like bitter kola. I thought it was a mistake. But today again the same thing happened. This time the chicken tasted so bad that I had to wash my mouth. Let's hear your own experience. |
@cream2 I find your allusion to my advice, on course of study as mere crap, very interesting. I think the little I can do is to open your eyes to some of the things you do not know or maybe you've chosen to turn your back on. 1) Let's use your company as a typical example. Please, no hard feelings; we are just dissecting the issue in question. From the TECHNOLOGY link on your website, you mentioned that Avaya IP Office is at the core of your organization's framework. But do you know that with ASTERISK you could end up with a system that offers increased flexibility, scalability, productivity and reliability? And at the same time reducing cost of deployment and maintenance? Food for thought. 2) In the field of engineering (IT included), we have five levels ( From Top to Bottom): 5, Scientists ----------Their job is to show the world why some things happen 4, Engineers ----------Their job is to tell the world how those things happen 3, Technologists -----Their job is to make those things happen 2, Technicians --------Maintains or looks after the finished products which the levels above developed. 1, Artisans -------------Helping with menial jobs required at all levels. For any company to be a global player you must be playing at levels 3, 4 & 5. However before you get to levels 3, 4 or 5 you must have undergone a thorough formal education in a related discipline. I have nothing against those who came into the IT field through "the back door". I'm only saying that their chance of meddling with the heart of IT as a discipline becomes very slim. @bjcisse Hope that helps you too. NOTE: Asterisk was developed by mark spencer, a computer engineer. The same guy that developed gaim. Now that is what I call IT. Six months half baked programmers, who cannot hack into the source codes of their compilers, cannot get us anywhere in this global business. Please let us do IT right. Pleaseeeee!! |
I think anybody who wants to feel the trends in the Naija stock Exchange should take a look at http://www.smartinvestorafrica.com The owner is Mr Afam Edozie; the MTN guy. The interesting thing is that he left MTN to start Smart Investor. What does that tell you? Investing in stocks, mutual funds, real estates and the like is the next best thing. |
Starting up an IT company for outsourcing is no child Lego game. Before you delve into such an adventure, that is if you are not just having a wet dream, you need to look at yourself and see if you are ready. Let's take it one step at a time. Question 1) How big do you expect the company to be? Question 2) Who are your target customers? Question 3) What is your team down here going to look like? Question 4) How rich are you? Question 5) How bright are you? Question 6) And most importantly, what course did you study and what level did you get to? If your answer does not look like what I have below, then you need to wake up and find another job. It may sound hard but you should know that your competitors are going to be Indians; who are masters themselves when it comes to outsourcing . Question 1) How big do you expect the company to be? , As big as iFlex. Question 2) Who are your target customers? , Big players in America and Europe. Question 3) What is your team down here going to look like? , Software engineers, geeks and very smart undergraduates. Not NIIT "half baked Six Month Programmers". Question 4) How rich are you? , I have up to Five million Naira that I can afford to loose. Question 5) How bright are you? , I Can figure out some real life applications of some mathematical theorems, in three minutes. Say Taylor's series. Question 6) And most importantly, what course did you study and what level did you get to? I studied Computers Science/Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or Electrical/Electronics Engineering. And I have at least a B.sc. in that field. I hope this clears the air for you. Notes: Bill gates to most of us is practicing "withcraft" (Not as in flying in the night. Any knowledge that is hoarded by one man is regarded as witchcraft. If he had taken some time to get his degree he could have had a better company). Linus Torvalds to most of us is a scientist. That is why the child of his brain LINUX is unbreakable. Larry Page and Sergy Brin made google the company of today and the future. What I am saying is that these men save for Mr. Gates basically went through a thorough formal education in the area of computing. Ifeanyi |
