If you're making case for the former, then believe me, you equally don't have an argument. Players market value aren't determined solely by performance. Indicators like age, position, length of contract remaining and the residual book value, all play big roles in a player's valuation. This is not to mention that the level of the national team represented is also taken into account.

Using the criteria above, Rudiger has every right to cost higher than Manolas.

It was actually this point I was making when we got linked to rudiger. While most of us agreed we needed to upgrade Cahills position last season,one will expect any player coming in will be strictly for that purpose but it ain't the case.

I cant just wrap my head around what chelsea is planning to do with him. I dont want to believe he was bought as a squad player. Azpi played very well and i cant see how he will play ahead of him in a crucial match as rcb. My only issue with ake was that he may not be up there yet in terms of experience, and i believe he needs to play regularly to aid his development. I was expecting bonucci or van dijk, so i didnt see anything wrong in selling him with a buy-back clause. Now we cant even tell specifically, where this rudiger will improve in our defence.

Azpi will be even better as rcb next season so i dont know how rudiger will dislodge him. Van dijk is probably going to liverpool. Arsenal is showing interest too. I doubt if chelsea will pay his fee, after getting rudiger for 35m and we still have a striker to buy and bakayoko lurking around. Let me tell you how some stuffs work. Most players before agreeing to join a club have their terms which interested clubs must meet. Before joining roma, juve and arsenal wanted him, but he ignored them. Players join teams that are ready to agree with their terms. Barca is with umtiti and pique, whose contractual terms may shut out manolas. Thats why some clubs would agree with a player and the deal wont be sealed until some players are flushed out for the incoming one. So transfer is not just adding 1+1. Thats how hulk went to zenith when bigger clubs were chasing him. He is now in china. Fact is, manolas is a better cb than rudiger and i am not a greek. Still expecting a cb, cos for now we just signed a right back who can play other positions.

Hazard is not my cb, so my cb should not be calamitous, cos any moment of madness will result to gnashing of teeth. If despite cahill playing well in most of our games and even scoring vital goals last season, most of us still believe we need an upgrade, why wont i have the right to scrutinize the one we bought for 35m as the upgrade? Is this the type of defender that will bench the cbs in real, bayern, barca or juve? What we need most is an excellent cb to replace cahill, not 'jack of all trades' type of defender. Bar aerial balls advantage, azpi is better than this lad as my rcb. Our standards may be different, i cant lower mine, when higher one can be reached. Can rudiger bench hummels and boathand in the german team? He is just an average defender that bruises and his physicality may cost us greatly if conte doesnt work on him. When he is up against swift and daring attackers, who wont quake to put leg between his leg and the ball, while he goes with a tackle, he will be one more away from being sent off. If we couldnt give ake and christensen chance, why should we buy and give a 35m defender, showing a lot of vulnerability, chance? We have seen great defenders in our club in the past, so no one can tell me nonsense about a defender who hardly stays on his feet defending. Just like in the case of his idol, we will be here to analyse his performances in big matches and i will refer to some of these posts that time.

That's poor defending. You don't take off your second leg to block when it's not a goal-bound shot. Even in a goal-bound move you need to apply wisdom. Most german central defenders lack this skill.

Football is not a computer game. When you work in an environment with human interaction, you should know when a situation has become untenable. If Chelsea had allowed Diegoal back into the club, it will be an action from the board tantamount to sacking the manager.

If Costa had been quiet instead of going to media with Conte's text, and screenshotting Conte's text and sending to all of his teammates, the situation may have still been salvaged. The minute he sent that to teammates, his action was final. It now became a standoff, a power struggle between Conte and Costa and the whole team would be watching who the board would back. Had the board backed Costa, Conte would become a lame duck and the team would start losing games immediately until he gets sacked in a few months.
