Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Nigeria Police 2016 Recruitment Of 10,000 Personnel by ajalaonifaaji: 11:39am On Oct 22, 2016
Heheheheh....This thread should be in the comedy section. Mehn see prospective Nigeria police officer exhibiting characteristics of street urchins and thugs. Its a pity. No matter how much these guys are trained if they eventually land the job, they will never stop collecting bribe on the highway. If these are the future of NPF, then there is fire on the mountain!!!

Well it's okay, like I said it's some few inquiries, just want to know the necessary and supporting documents needed and the step by step guide to apply, Thank you

Apologies for any inconvenience.

Basically, I assume you want to visit Japan for vacation. The docs required:
Valid Passport
Letter of employment from ur work place
Letter of introduction from your work place
One passport photo
Filled Japanese visa application letter
Confirmed flight booking to Japan
Hotel booking for the whole duration of ur stay
Bank statement for the last 3months

That's about it! Just submit your application in Abuja, then wait for their mail to pick your passport. If issued, you would be required to pay the excat visa fee....can't remember exactly how much, buh less than 5k sha. If not issued, you just pick your passport without paying any dime...no strings attached!

Are you serious about Japan I swear I'm gonna apply next week.. will apply for Japan and Thailand.. I want to visit Pattaya.

Oh yea, am serious! You will pay the exact cash at their embassy in Abuja, I think I paid less than 4k self. The good part is you only pay the token when they issue your visa. So, if your application is rejected, you ain't paying kobo!

What I did was to book early momo flight from Lagos to Abuja, submit my application in person, come back to Lagos that morning, then return to Abuja go collect my passport 4 days later ...easiest visa ever! Pack all relevant documents with you.

But be ready to eat raw fish when you get to Japan...and na so everybody go dey bow for you like aboki grin dey too get courtesy. Their train system na die...e too sweet!

Downside: Most Japanese don't speak English or have crude knowledge of the language. So just hold your google translator waka everywhere you go.

ME: Good Morning

VO: Your Passport please

ME: There you go.

VO: Where are you going?

ME: Texas

VO: Why are you going to Texas

ME: For a 2 Weeks training on Selective Electroplating with Sifco ASC

VO: Selective what?

ME: Selective Electroplating, It is technology that is used to repair and enhance machine parts and components.

VO: What do you do?

Me: I'm an Electroplating Engineer, I operate Electroplating machine to repair machine parts.

VO: Have you travelled before

ME: Nope (while shaking my head in disagreement), although I just graduated from the University.

VO: What did you study?

ME: Mechanical Engineering

VO: Which school

ME: Ladoke Akintola University of Technology

VO: Okay, your Visa has been approved.......he hands me the White paper and ask me to pick up my visa on Thursday.

Everything happened so fast.
I naturally tend to speak fast especially when tensed and that helped a lot (or so I think). I didn't take a pause to answer any of the questions. He asked, I answered.

I'll narrate my police harassment experience later.

My transcript wouldn't be complete if I don't say a Big Thank you to all the selfless people here on this thread (especially LadyGuinivere kiss and SeyeWest). I literally knew all that I needed, had a graphical understanding of what to expect, and walked right through the whole process.

Thank you guys kiss. [/quote]

First two highlight kinda helped your case. The guy just dey hear technology anyhow and was kinda impressed.

Last two highlight no doubt have been very helpful to everybody here. They give insightful and indepth analysis to visa questions. Whoever owns Nairaland owes the both of ya for always making meaning contributions here....considering you guys are doing this stuff for free still beats my imagination... E pass full time job self

You shouldn't say you regret being a Nigerian....Thats a wrong mentalilty yo start with. Try to be a good ambassador, never over stay your visa....a lot of Nigerians abuse the terms of their visas, that explain your scrutiny at the airport. Enjoy your stay.

Even Nigeria scans on arrival and exit smiley. I am yet to see any country that doesn't scan. That is why the world immigration body insist on machine readable passports - MRP.

However linking immigration system with airline system is peculiar to few countries like US and UK. France still does manual stamping in addition to scanning.

@2n2k Thanks for sharing, I think am safe now. All countries scan passports to check the authenticity of the travel ID but some countries do not stamp at all....I know of Isreal... They just issue you a slip on arrival....no stamp what so ever, even on departure.

@ajalaonifaaji @2n2k Although they don't stamp out when you leave the U.S I know they will scan your passport on exit which is not really different from manual stamping. @ajalaonifaaji that means that we should expect CRonaldo Junior in 9 months... Oshey grin grin grin

Thanks for clarifying, my mind is at peace now, I thought it was a peculiar problem... Buh now I know that's how they roll. Scanning and stamping I believe are two different things. All Intl airports have travelled through have scanned my passport, even Nigeria immigration scans it when you are existing as well as when you arrive, I think its an International immigration protocol.

As for the CR junior, I don't know where you got that from...heheheheh, you no like Nani Jr or Queresma Jr....lol...Baba tried his possible best not to sow seeds abroad, just to check the fertility of the land....that's all!

Good Morning y'all, I agree with LadyGuinivere & Seyewest regarding quoting long posts, it really ain't necessary and makes a page unnecessary long.

I arrived yesterday evening and I just realized that I wasn't stamped out at JFK. Although I sent a mail to the US embassy this morning to that regard to avoid stories that touch in the future. No reply yet. (I was pretty high when I was returning and didn't take cognizance of the outward screening process.)

As I promised earlier, lemme quickly share my vac experience with you guys.

My AirBnb host made the trip an unforgettable experience. She's a funny and lively elderly woman who migrated since the late 80's to the US from Kenya with her husband, who is late now....Bless his soul oh Lord. She's a retired nurse and has a son, about 22 years who has lived all his life in NYC. (He was the guy that picked his moms call when the immigration officer called while I was at the airport). The guy is a funny ass dude...when you combine Basket mouth and Bovi together... And also a jayejaye nigga...(Person wey won die meet person wey go kill am...lol.)

On arrival at the house, I met another tourist, a girl about 19yrs from Portugal who was also in the US for the first time and was also utilizing the AirBnb thingy. Oh, she's an amazing fellow... Speaks excellent English and moans in Spanish... Bless her soul oh Lord! (Ladies and gentleman, I'll like to draw a discrete curtain on extra-tourisit activities)

Moving around NYC in a cab can be quite expensive. My host wouldn't release her car to her son to take me around even if I will fuel it. Reason: He's had multiple DUI record and she just can't trust him again. So, with Felix's help, we rented a car. Armed with my intl driver's license and with Felix sitting beside me as my surrogate tour guide...slamming 2pac's song on the stereo, I got on the wheels for my very first driving experience in the US. I didn't quite understand why motorist were driving not so fast in some places and increased the tempo in other parts of the road....me just dey drive any where belle face...na so I overtake one police sedan (although I wasn't speeding excessively)...the guy just blow siren straight. I parked, Felix advised I switch of the engine and keep my hands on the steering wheels. The officer walked up to us questioned us, I kept a smiling innocent face, told him am a tourist and just taking a joy ride, and am used to KM/h, rather that the Mph. He checked the car reg and my license, told me I should only get on wheels when am familiar with the roadsigns and speed limit, gave me a warning and left us....Bless the Autobahn oh Lord!...I've done 220 on the Autobahn...I hope y'all can relate...lol

Acclimatizing in NYC was quite easy...weather is hot, hotter than Lagos I guess, the city is chaotic and beautiful at the same time. everything you need to buy are just a stone throw away, bars are opened till late night (am a nocturnal person), some ******* club are opened everyday of the week. Living with an AirBnb host makes you feel like a local rather than a visitor, compared to a hotel.

NYC as a lot in common with Tokyo. Look at Donald Trump, now look at Borris Johnson...any connection?? Heheheheh...I hope you get my drift...lol.

We booked greyhound bus ticket to Washington for myself, Felix and Isabella. The bus trip rather than visit was what I enjoyed most. The bus was very spacious, very comfy above all...had a charging port, WiFi and Isabella by my side!...what else can the son of man ask for?

Washington was quite uneventful, that place has a very serious look while NY has a playful setting. I wish I could meet Sasha on that trip... Lol. I swear I like that girl, in fact, I love her. She's gat so much economic advantage and would make a great wife just like her mother. Have gat so much respect for Mitchell Obama, as much as I have for Angela Merkel and Christine Amanpour.

I would like to visit again, but this time for a Royal Caribbean cruise from Florida... Maybe next year August. If you've gat similar plans, you can holla so we can plan the trip.

In conclusion, I strongly support Mamateniola's point. The major difference between Nigeria and the US is the system. Our leadership system lays a blueprint of corruption. A system that is parasitic. A system where nepotism comes before commonsense.

As an individual, I strongly believe in Nigeria, we just need to put our economic structures right. We are far too blessed to be poor in this country. Countries like Kenya for instance are getting things right... Did you know Kenya exports fresh flowers to Europe?? I saw that with my eyes at the cargo wing of Jomo Kenyatta airport this year..now you know!. How much more Nigeria that has commodities far valuable than flowers. We just need to look inwards and make our system work.

***In addition, the youths of a nation are the future of that nation. You can testify to the fact that most Nigerian youths spend long hours doing unproductive stuffs on the internet. Its either they are fighting inter-tribal war or fighting continental war on best jollof rice in Africa. As a person, although, I used to have a Myspace account during my time at Bradford...Somebody must have taken over my space by now..lol.. I do not have an Instagram or a Twitter account, No, having one is not bad, but, I know I will end up spending long unproductive hours on them, hence, will make me less productive at work. Many jobless Nigerian graduates do not even have a LinkedIn account, yet they are celebrities on Instagram. #ChangeBeginsWithTheYouths

God bless Nigeria, God Bless America, God Bless LadyG, God Bless every single person that has contributed to this rich island of knowledge and God bless the black Ijebu boy typing this.

Good afternoon, I'd like to share my vac experience as well as my near-deportation experience at JFK Airport in New York.

My flight from Frankfurt to JFK was quite uneventful as I sat with a lady who slept off even before the plane taxied, woke to eat mid-air and slept again till we touched town. I just plugged my earpiece listening to Fela all through the 8hrs plus flight and downing beer after beer....Bless Lufthansa oh Lord!.

I was attended to by a young male immigration officer.

Officer: Hello Sir, what has brought you to the US?
Me: I have come to spend a 2wks vacation.
Officer: How much is on you?
Me: $9,000
Officer: Can I see it?
Me: Yea, brought it out from my back pocket, and started counting the $100 bills
Officer: Oh no, am not interested in that, you can keep it. Can I see your return ticket?
Me: (That was the genesis of my wahala, cuz av gat no return ticket) I didn't book a return ticket for this trip because I don't know yet if I will be heading back to Nigeria after this trip or somewhere else because of the nature of my job. (Nobody mentioned here on this thread that one must travel with a return ticket).
Officer: OK, step aside sir.
I was handed to an officer and directed to a waiting room.

All I told him was with my church mind, but I never knew my words were laden with immigrant intent, I got to know this later.

Because I have a long term EU visa, and also due to the flexibility of my job I usually travel with a single ticket as issued by the HR dept. Nothing is fixed in my office, we be like water, we take the shape of the container! Yes, am on vacation, but HR fit mail me ticket and job details anytime right in the middle of my vacation, that's the kind of job I signed up for. Yes, av had issues at Frankfurt airport once for showing up with no return ticket, but once my German office sorted that, I never had issue again. I hope you get my drift. I only generalized the single ticket thing, but I never knew it is different with the US.

I'd like to clarify one issue above. The issue of the $9000. You might wanna ask why a nigga is traveling with so much cash for vac? Ask no further. Not that I might necessarily exhaust the whole cash, but as a Black guy, I mean Baba dudu, experience has taught me to always travel with sufficient amount of money. I have traveled around the world, and I have been racially abused in some countries especially Poland, Switzerland and Russia. I was literally thrown a banana in Warsaw. You don't see lots of black dudes in this countries. Now, this is what I want to talk about, sometimes in 2014, I did a light shopping at a store in Barcelona, I proceeded to pay using my Nigerian issued MasterCard...I think 750Euro or so, and for some strange reasons, my card refused to pay. I collected it, cleaned it on my shirt and returned to her, she tried again and it ain't working. I had no cash on me. I was on a queue. She looked at me with one kind eye say your juju no work today, called security, and I was made to return everything where I picked them. That's the height of humiliation! Its OK when a white dudes bank card malfunctions, but ITS NOT OK WHEN A BLACK DUDE CARD MALFUNCTIONS IN A FOREIGN LAND, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU ARE A NIGERIAN. I hope you learnt something there.

Back to the discuss. While being escorted to the waiting room, several thoughts were running through my mind. I was kinda nervous because i have been profiled once at El dorado Airport in Bogota, Colombia, but I felt I might be deported this time.

I beg your indulgence to divert once again. I wanna tell you why I was hell scared.

After my Msc, I came back to Nigeria for NYSC, was posted to Enugu. I spent a full year in my mother's house playing video games after service, I didn't apply for a single job. I just couldn't imagine my self doing a conventional 8-5, I would just die of depression... If the job wouldn't set my ass on the road...I ain't doing! My mum called came to my room one day and suggested I go on a vac to clear my head so I can come back, get a girlfriend, start looking for job and leave her house. I had just saw a movie then...Colombiana, and I just wanted to visit Colombia because of that movie.

On the plane to Colombia via Milan, I sat with a young dude about my age, and we talked about everything from different sex positions to video game cheats to every other unprintable stuffs. We later part ways at the arrival hall. Later I was detained by anti-narcotics police at the arrival hall. My crime? I had been caught on CCTV with the guy, unknowing to me he had Cocaine in his bag. I was drilled for 10hours and was only released when they were convinced that I was not a party to the crime. It was a bad bad experience for me.

Forgive my diversion. Now back at the waiting room. I was sitting close to an Igbo man about 40years old or so. How do I know he's an Igbo man you may ask? I mentioned earlier that I served in Enugu and I know an Ndigbo when I see one...Am from Sagamu in Ogun state, Enugu remains my favorite city in Nigeria, followed closely by Abeokuta and Calabar...I really toured that city, rolled with ESUT girls and was ordained a minister at Orange Room...hehehe...you know what I mean...lol

A pretty female officer walked up to the man for some questioning. Dammm....she was pretty, had a Kim-kinda ass and some boobs that were still in their prime...Ohhhh lala...I was imagining her in a yoga pant and some hot tank top....Bless my soul oh Lord!....Dear friends, forgive me if you say am describing an officer in a sexy way, am only saying the truth and also preparing your mind for what's coming ahead...now picture an Igbo man with deep Igbo accent

Officer: Sir, you overstayed your last visit by 2months

Man: Yes Baby, I was very very sick, and I had to seek medical attention for my health.

Officer: Sir, am an officer, don't address me as baby. Why didn't you file for an extension to seek medical attention?

Man: Baby, I didn't know I should have filed for an extension.

Officer: I said stop addressing me as baby

Man: Baby am sorry.

The officer left in fury.

Hehehehehhehe....I laughed so hard my tummy hurts, I completely forgot my own predicament that moment.

Not really his fault tho, he wasn't seeing an officer, neither was I, he was seeing a hot chick, so was I....lol.

Later, an elderly immigration officer approached me. This guy was the definition of ICE... He was so cool!

Officer: Why did you come into the U.S without a return ticket, aren't you planning on going back to your home country? (Smiling in a manner I could not understand) perhaps he was expecting me to say yes to that question.
Me: explained my situation in details to him. Even offered to book and pay for a return ticket right there at the airport.
Officer: Do you have relatives in New York?
Me: No, I don't.
Officer: Can I see your Hotel booking confirmation?
Me: I didn't book an Hotel, I will be staying with an AirBnb host here in New York.
Officer: Can I see a confirmation, anything to proof that?
Me: Am sorry, I don't have a print out of any sort to that effect, I did the booking using a mobile device and I couldn't print at the time. (I was grossly unprepared for this trip, my mind na to come freestlye). But I have an address and a cell number.
Officer: Can I see that?
Me: (brought out my diary from my bag. mind you, I had a single bag....I always travel with a single bag that would fit inside the overhead cabin in the plane....no need to waste time dey claim baggage.) Here it is sir.
Officer: Read out the address, brought out a cell phone and dialled the number.

Officer: Hello....(introduced himself and where he was calling from) Do you know Mr **** ***** **** pronounced my Ijebu surname perfectly.
Man: No! ( this time I was scared as hell, first, I was expecting an elderly Kenyan woman on the phone, who I have spoken to before leaving Lagos, I even did IMO video call with her, I wasn't expecting a males voice, secondly, this dude just denied me!
Officer: Do you use your accommodation for AirBnb services?
Man: oh yea
Officer: Are you expecting a guest by the name *** ****
Man: Hold on a sec. ( after some sec) Oh, yea...oh yea!
Officer: Thank you for your time Sir, bye.
(I was singing hossana this time in my mind) If that guy had insisted on NO, I most likely would be on the next flight to Lagos.

Officer: Make sure you book a return ticket on your next visit to the US, Welcome to America!
Me: Sure. Thanks Sir!

Was later stamped in. That was it!

I think I was lucky and also considered a low-risk. I think he acted in an unconventional manner by placing the phone on speaker so I can hear my fate. He tried his best by exploring all the options on the table before making a decision. You see why I say he's cool??

Most importantly, those guys ain't just working for working sake, they have excellent listening skills and a professional manner of judging intent. One would definitely be refused admission if one didn't meet the minimum requirement for admission... It cost them nothing.

Forgive my long post. I get enough time this beautiful afternoon. No work for me, just eat and waka waka with my surrogate tour guide...lol..I will post my vac experience later in which I got flagged for over speeding, had an awesome greyhound experience to Washington and managed not to fall for a bait.

No city in this world has the vibrancy of New York city....I mean solid vibrancy! God bless America, God Bless Nigeria!

@DCTrendy, First, my passports were not attached together, secondly, I gave my current passport to the guy that screened me before I made my way to the main building. He sticked a tiny blue paper on it, I don't know what that means. I had my other passport inside my suit pocket. I only gave the VO both because other embassies I have visited in the past always insist of seeing previous issued visas....usually the coloured photocopy of previous visas. By the way, the VO never opened it, she just placed it on her desk and returned it after the interview.

I quoted you upside down...lol...still learning to navigate this site. I got to know about Nairaland through an Intern in the IT dept at work, and I have found it to be very educative and exciting. I will post my experience soon, including stuffs I wish I had learnt here, as I almost got deported.

DCTrendy:

Congratulations Bro. I have a question plz

What do you mean he returned your old passport? When I went the guys at the checking entrance detached my old passport from the new and the old passport contained all my travel history while d new passport has none. It was in my pocket and I asked the VO if she wanted to take a look but she said i shouldn't bother.

At what point did you give him/her your old passport or it was not detached at the entrance?
