.The baby, whose manhood was chopped off by his step mother in Niger State, Dauda Buhari, is dead. The Director General of Child’s Right Agency, Mariam Kolo, disclosed that Buhari died in Wada village in Shiroro Local Government Area of the state, after a brief malaria illness. Speaking with Punch, on Wednesday, Kolo said Buhari had “slight malaria which made his temperature to rise and he died even after he had been administered his prescribed drugs.” Kolo revealed that Buhari died at a time he was scheduled to undergo a genital transplant in the United Kingdom, UK. The DG said the sickness was not a relapse on his health, as he was doing extremely well after a series of corrective surgeries. Expressing sadness over the death of the baby who is now over a year old, Kolo said the case of the stepmother who is currently being remanded in the Old Minna Prison would be determined. Recall that Buhari’s step mother, Bara’atu Rabiu, had on June 18, 2016, chopped off the toddler’s penis while he was just two-month old. Rabiu, then 17-years-old, never gave any reason for her action. http://allnews.uodoo.com/en-ng/detail/2823814910591674?uc_param_str=dnfrpfbivesscpgimibtbmntnijblauputoggdnw&opt=list_auto&app=h5_iflow&reco_id=77483b07-3822-4a0e-a204-3506a3d1b40b&rs=mix&channel_id=10069901&entry1=card&entry2=more&entry=browser |

True character of Buhari |
The Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, has blamed President Muhammadu Buhari for the lacuna in the operations of the Nigeria Police Force. Akiolu said that the military government under Buhari between 1983 and 1985 was not committed to the funding of the police, thinking there was a conspiracy in the Force against the regime. The monarch, however, charged the 74-year-old President to address the challenges hindering the effectiveness of the police “now that he has come back as a democrat.” Akiolu, a retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police, spoke on Friday at a seminar in Lagos, tagged: ‘Providing Strategic Solutions to Emergent Security Challenges: The Essentials of Synergy Amongst Security Agencies and Civil Populace.’ The seminar was organised by the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris. He said, “The military killed the efficiency and effectiveness of the Nigeria Police Force. The problem of the police started with Buhari in 1984 when he was Head of State. They said (Sunday) Adewusi wanted to take over the government. I explained to them that it was not possible at all. “There was a meeting sometime ago in Abuja where all of us were summoned. I was very happy when Buhari told us that 10,000 policemen would be recruited for efficiency and effectiveness of the Nigeria Police Force.” Akiolu, who did not explain those he referred to as “they,” said he also advised a former Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar, in 1997 on the need to create sufficient police stations on expressways to tackle highway robberies. He said, “What he (Abubakar) told me was that ‘Commissioner, do you want me to commit all the resources of the government to the police alone?’” A former IG, Musiliu Smith, lamented that most policemen were ill-trained as a result of poor funding, urging that competent officers should be entrusted with sensitive positions without recourse to religion or ethnicity. Smith said, “Please give appropriate attention to the issue of training. Another issue is infrastructure. A lot of ghettos in the country are areas that vicious criminals hide and police cannot go there because there are no access roads. “We also have to make a strong case to the government on the issue of barracks. As long as we don’t have 50 per cent of police personnel within the barracks, you will never be able to respond promptly to emergencies. “Some of the policemen living outside the barracks are attendants to criminals, who give them free accommodation. Right now, 25 per cent of personnel is in the barracks all over the country.” Another retired IG, Sunday Ehindero, called for mutual intelligence sharing among security agencies, noting that different strategies must be adopted to solve the dynamics of crimes. Guest speaker of the occasion, Etannibi Alemika, a professor of criminology at the University of Jos, emphasised the need for effective community policing. He said, “You are not going to have security by abusing the police. There should be a partnership between the community and the police in terms of intelligence gathering while the debate of state police is ongoing. http://punchng.com/buhari-responsible-for-problem-in-nigeria-police-akiolu/ |

The Nigerian Air Force on Friday said the Israeli security experts, who were brought in to train 450 personnel, were engaged due to the insurgents’ attacks on military bases in the North-East, among other reasons. The NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Olatokunbo Adesanya, disclosed this in an interview with our correspondent, adding that the costs of the training could not yet be obtained. The Air Force, on Tuesday, had said it commenced the training of 450 carefully selected regiment personnel as Special Forces. The training, which was organised in three batches at the NAF Regiment Training Centre in Kaduna State, had been said to be handled by FOUR-TROOP, described as an Israeli military training organisation. Adesanya said on Friday that the training was to fortify the NAF personnel against attacks on military bases in the country, noting that the training would have cost more if the personnel had been sent to Israel. He said, “Of course, the training given to our personnel by the Israelis will ultimately impact on the war against the Boko Haram insurgents. Do not forget that a part of the challenges we had in the past was the attacks on air force bases in Maiduguri, Borno State. As of that time, our base defence structure was not as strong as it is now. “The NAF before now was trained to fight a conventional warfare. But the war against the insurgents is an unconventional warfare, also known as an asymmetric warfare. The training being given to the personnel therefore is to make our troops fight an unconventional warfare. It will also enable the air force to be able to protect its bases adequately. “It is just that the expertise needed is domiciled in Israel. It could have been domiciled in any other country. The hired Israelis are a private organisation. The areas of training are the defence of our critical national assets.” http://punchng.com/we-hired-israeli-experts-to-tackle-bharam-others-air-force/ |

When news broke that the modest Gwarimpa Abuja home of former president Goodluck Jonathan was burgled, some mischievous elements, instead of sympathizing with the former president and call for the immediate arrest and prosecution of the burglars, chose to rather go about town excessively exaggerating the number of valuable items that were in the house before it was burgled. While only 3 refrigerators, 6 television sets and one gas cooker were among the items stolen, mischief makers had gone to town with the deliberately skewed news of the house being fitted with a massive 36 plasma television sets and another 25 refrigerators, all in a bid to continue on their puerile attempt to tar the ever-towering image of the former president. While that was going on, these same mischief makers chose to turn a blind eye and deaf ears to the obscenity of a mansion bought for the Sultan of Sokoto in Abuja with the taxpayers’ money of the good people of Sokoto State to the humongous tune of N700m in Abuja. When one considers that this is a State that produces nothing, brings little or nothing to the federal table, has one of the least IGRs in the country and depends solely on federal allocations for survival, the rationale behind using state funds to purchase such a mansion outside the domain of a traditional/religious ruler with state resources becomes questionable and troubling. It is even more insane for such a state government to have flagrantly wasted the whole revenue generated by all its MDAs combined on such an unholy venture. Let it be known that the revenue generated by all the MDAs in Sokoto State for the whole of 2016 was N701,694,621.52, approximately N700m. The implication of this is that the total revenue which the state civil servants worked so hard to generate for government in the hope that such funds would be ploughed back into society to help improve the wellbeing of the people has been spent only on just one man! As a traditional ruler, one would have thought that the Sultan’s domain from where he is supposed to guide his people should have remained in Sokoto. That is more so because he is supposed to be closer to the people than any other leader of any status. Even if there is any compelling reason for him to need a house in the nation’s capital, it should be a modest guest house where he spends only very few days whenever he is in Abuja for a function or for any other reason. That is what reflects the reality of the time and his status as the traditional ruler of a people whose higher population is ravaged by poverty, disease and illiteracy. Even some state houses/lodges in Abuja do not cost that much. If the argument is that he deserves such an obscene mansion in the midst of austerity because he is not just a traditional ruler of the Sokoto people but that he is also the leader of Muslims in Nigeria, the onus to build/buy him such a mansion, if need be, is on adherents of his faith and not on a state government. Poor people of Sokoto, they have been cheated blind in this one, yet, those who saw and made much noise over an imaginary 36 TV sets and 25 refrigerators as an obscene acquisition of Goodluck Jonathan have kept mum on this one! The other issue that calls for scrutiny is the latest acquisition of a private jet, the Global Express XRS, by a former governor of Lagos State, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for a whopping $60m (N21.8bn), yet, there is no outrage from self serving anti-corruption agencies, NGO’s or even the fallen Prof Itse Sagay and his Presidential Advisory Committee on Anti-Corruption in all these. Such people and bodies are only obsessed with members of the opposition. As far as they are concerned, those in their party or who have sympathy for their party can never do any wrong. Pray, how can one man, in the midst of biting recession where government is even struggling to borrow to finance projects that never take-off, and where millions go to bed hungry every night even as number of out-of-school children keep increasing as a result of job losses owing to factory closedowns, acquire such a toy with such an amount, his second, and there is no outrage? It is even more worrisome that all these obscene acquisitions are being done shortly after the release of another tranche of the Paris Club Refund to state governments. Are political, religious and traditional rulers now taking undeserved commissions on allocations to State governments to the detriment of the common man? One can only imagine if it was a member of the opposition party that was involved in all these scandalous acquisitions, the media especially would have been agog with screaming headlines while hypocritical anti-corruption NGOs would have been up in arms insisting on the arrest and prosecution of such people. Others like Sagay and Falana would have advocated for such people to be jailed even without trial. The news in town would have been that members of the current opposition party have looted the country dry, and the social media would have been on fire for it. But for now, it is the untouchables, the Pharisees and the Sadducees, the Scribes and the Chief Priests, Emperors and Maximum Rulers that are involved, so we can all turn a blind eye to it and pretend nothing has happened. From the above, we all now understand what the minister of finance with an underwhelming performance meant when she said that recession is just a word. It would be foolhardy for anyone to attempt to contradict her. With those acquisitions, the N700m Abuja mansion for the Sultan of Sokoto and the one by the Jagaban himself, recession is, indeed, just a word! jrndukwe@yahoo.co.uk; Twitter: Stjudendukwe http://allnews.uodoo.com/en-ng/detail/386520968807553?uc_param_str=dnfrpfbivesscpgimibtbmntnijblauputoggdnw&opt=list_auto&app=h5_detailrec&reco_id=4253bc6c-5c7d-4ef7-b18b-65d0a5153937&rs=prof&entry1=card&entry2=list&entry=browser&deep=1 |
