Emmanuella is a child comedian whose creative skills announced her in Nigeria and abroad. She is known to perform in comedy skits with her relation, Mark Angel. Earlier this week, a new child comedian set to rival Emmanuella warmed our hearts, her name, Bridget Bema! Bridget Bema got us laughing with a viral video where she broke school rules without care or regard for consequences. In the video, pupils had assembled for morning devotion when the school administrator called different categories of offences with the names of pupils who had committed them. Bridget Bema's name was mentioned for not wearing the correct school uniform, not sweeping the classroom, noise making, disobedience, bullying etc., which promoted her to move to kneel from different spots according to the offence. Apparently, she was guilty of breaking all the school rules. That video reminded us of either ourselves or someone we know in either primary or secondary school, who became notorious for breaking school rules. Who is Bridget Bema? When we talk about true love, we mean the kind of love that is unconditional. The kind of love that looks beyond a person's flaw(s), age and/or religion. The kind of love that transcends human understanding. Such is the love that Isa Suleiman and Janine Sanchez share. Do you remember 26-year-old Isa Suleiman who fell in love with 46-year-old American, Janine Sanchez after they met on Instagram last year? Well, the lovers are set to wed in Kano on Sunday, 13 December 2020. Earlier in the year, Janine took the risk of travelling from her home country, America to Panshekara in Kano State, Nigeria to meet her lover, Isa. She did not bother about the difference in age or religion or race. Unconfirmed reports have it that Janine took care of her flight tickets and other expenses for that trip. Such sacrifice! Such is the kind of love we call true love. Of course, we cannot talk about true love in a relationship if it is one-sided. Isa, on his part, may have made sacrifices in his relationship with Janine which have remained private, but time and again, we read from his Facebook posts about how his life has turned around for better since he met Janine, and also how he misses her when they are apart. He does not shy away from professing his love and feelings for his lover on social media. Often, we hear that age is just number, but may not fully understand the phrase. Isa and Janine are young people who are ready to commit themselves to love each other irrespective of their flaws, size, age, race or religion, and that should be enough proof that true love is beyond human attributes. It has been established that the terrorist group known as Boko Haram has their base in the thick covers of Sambisa forest. What some may not know is that there is no network coverage or internet in the area. However, Boko Haram terrorists have been able to post videos of their attacks or videos where they claim responsibility of attacks. How have they achieved this feat over the years? Last week, the terrorist group released a new video where they claimed responsibility of the attack and killing of over 40 farmers in Koshebe, Borno State. For years, many have wondered how Boko Haram is able to post videos from the thick cover of a forest like Sambisa forest in the absence of a network coverage or internet. For starters, the Boko Haram group has high level cameras and quality phones which they use to make their videos. This explains the reason why their videos usually has good picture quality. A security expert, Bulama Bukarti who was one of the few civilians in Nigeria who has had direct communication with Boko Haram explained to the BBC how the group manoeuvres their way with network and internet. According to Bulama, the terrorist group uses high level cameras and quality phones to record their attacks and videos which they upload on the internet. He disclosed that the group also have computers where they edit these videos before they upload them to either WhatsApp or Telegram, which are the channels they use to distribute them. From his research, Bulama also found that ISWAP, which is the West African partners of Boko Haram has up to 50 WhatsApp groups and the reason for many groups is because they are usually shutdown when discovered. Therefore, if one group is shutdown, they would have somewhere else to post their activities. If WhatsApp blocked all their groups, they would move to Telegram. Almost everyone who knows about insurgency and Boko Haram terrorism in Nigeria knows that the terrorist group are wont of posting their activities on the internet. Time and again, we have seen videos of the leader of the terrorist group, Abubakar Shekau, where he either claims responsibility of an attack on innocent citizens or boast about an imminent attack. Few days ago, the terrorist group released a video wherein they took responsibility of the killing of over 40 farmers in Koshebe, Borno State. One question remains though: how do Boko Haram fighters get cameras and computers which they use to record videos they post on the internet? For lack of a better definition, let us define Shiloh as a gathering of international faithful held by the Living Faith Church, aka Winners Chapel. The power-packed convention takes place every year and is attended by millions of people from all over the world. This year, Winners Chapel is getting set to host the convention themed "Turnaround Encounters". The religious body announced that the programme will hold from Tuesday, December 8 to Sunday, December 13. To prove their readiness for Shiloh 2020, a service group known as the Crowd Control Unit (CCU) organised a ‘refresher’ training for its members last Sunday. It is the sole responsibility of the group to ensure orderliness during church services, and at the yearly event. In 2020, as with previous years, the programme is expected to attract people from diffetent countries of the world, especially in foreign countries where Living Faith Church exists. However, this year is not like other years. For the past eight months, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have been in negotiations with the Federal Government of Nigeria to resolve issues which led to the ongoing strike embarked upon by the union. The union had gone on strike in March 2020 due to the what it termed nonchalant attitude of the federal government towards education in Nigeria. They listed Unpaid Earned Academic Allowances, revitalisation of universities, and the much debated IPPIS payment platform as some of their reasons. The meeting between ASUU and the Federal Government on Friday 27 November 2020 marked the SEVENTH TIME both parties met to try to resolve their issues. Although the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige declared the meeting "fruitful", here are reasons why ASUU should not call off their strike until March 2021. 1. Non-committalness of the Federal Government Few days ago, the federal government presented an offer which they said was the best they could ever make, but fast forward to Friday 27 November, we hear in the news that the same federal government have increased the offer for Earned Allowances (EA) and funding for the revitalisation of public universities from N65 billion to N70 billion. What this suggests is that the federal government keeps dragging its feet on issues concerning ASUU and education in Nigeria. For this reason, ASUU should ensure full implementation of any agreement entered with the federal government before they call of the strike. And since the year is almost over, the union should allow at least three months into 2021 for the government to have ample time to source money and implement the offer. Should ASUU call off the strike implementation of the offer, the union is bound to go on another strike in 2021. 2. UTAS vs IPPIS Part of the reason why ASUU is currently on strike is the disparity with the federal government over a payment platform. Government had proposed Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS), but ASUU disagrees on the basis that it threatens the autonomy of the university system. It rather prefers University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS). Federal government have heard the proposal of ASUU on a payment platform but are yet to approve it, it however, proposes that members of ASUU who are yet to register on IPPIS be put on Government Integrated Financial and Management Information System (GIFMIS) in the meantime. ASUU should insist on their choice of payment platform until it is approved, to avoid stories in the future.
