Politics3 Things OYC Leader Was Right About When He Called For Igbo Presidency by AJohnnasa(op): 4:58pm On Aug 21, 2021
The National President of Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC), Comrade Igboayaka O Igboayaka spoke recently about which region should produce the next President of Nigeria in 2023.

In an interview with Daily Post, Igboayaka insists that the next President of Nigeria should be of Igbo extraction else the unity of the country will be in question.

He listed benefits that will accrue to Nigeria if an Igbo man is made the next president, including suggestions about the way forward for the country.

He also faulted the 1999 constitution for a lot of woes bedeviling the country, and called for restructuring and introduction of regional governments.

Beyond all that, let us look at three things the OYC leader got right in his interview.

1. Insecurity in the South East

According to the President of the Ohanaeze Youth Council, South East governors have failed to deliver in several areas, including security of their states.

The region has experienced all kinds of insecurity within the last five months. Kidnappings, armed robberies, killings of security agents, burning of police stations etc. have all held sway under their watch.

Igboayaka is right on that premise.

It is worrisome to have someone like Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State, for instance, want to become the President of a country with over 200 million people, when as a governor, he cannot guarantee the security of lives and properties of less than 5 million people.

2. Involvement of youths

If the youths are involved in the scheme of things, noticeable positive improvements will be witnessed because the impact of youths in a society cannot be overstated.

The OYC leader said this much when he mentioned that the success of every leadership is to work with progressive and visionary youths.

CrimeWhy Nigerian Army Is Right To Not Kill Boko Haram Terrorists Who Surrendered by AJohnnasa(op): 10:07pm On Aug 17, 2021
There are calls in some quarters for the Nigerian Army to kill Boko Haram terrorists who have surrendered.

The Nigerian Army has recorded massive success after they adopted a non-kinetic approach (a strategy which sees them accept insurgents who surrender) to tackle insurgency in the North East.

According to reports, over 3,000 Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) members have either been captured or surrendered to the military in the last three months.

However, contrary to calls to kill the repentant insurgents, the military insists that they will rather reintegrate them into the society than have their heads on a stake.

The decision of the military on the matter has elicited criticisms from many Nigerians who feel that one of the ways to pacify families of victims of insurgency is to execute them.

However, the position of the law on this matter is different.

According to the International Humanitarian Law (IHL), otherwise known as laws of armed conflict, which is the law that regulates the conduct of war, the Nigerian Army cannot kill or execute Boko Haram members who surrendered unconditionally.

The law protects persons who are not participating in hostilities by restricting the means and methods of warfare available to combatants.

In this case, since Boko Haram / ISWAP members have surrendered, the military is prohibited by international law to kill them.

Nigeria is signatory to the International Humanitarian Law, therefore, it will amount to war crime if the Nigerian Army goes ahead to execute these men who have chosen to abandon their cause and pursue peace.

Besides, if surrendered Boko Haram members are killed, other members in terrorist camps, who may be contemplating to surrender will decide against it and continue hostility.

Therefore, it is best that Nigerians call for restitution for families of victims, rather than seeking retribution and/or retaliation.

Politics5 Achievements Of President Buhari That Could Make Igbos Vote APC In 2023 by AJohnnasa(op): 9:43pm On Aug 17, 2021
President Muhammadu Buhari has recorded several achievements in the South East, to cause Igbos to vote the All Progressives Congress (APC) massively in 2023 elections.

Despite the fact that Igbos favoured the People's Democratic Party (PDP) over the APC in the 2015 and 2019 Presidential Elections, the President did not fail to deliver dividends of democracy to the South East.

Below are five achievements of President Buhari that will endear Igbos to the APC and cause them to vote the party in 2023.

1. Second Niger Bridge

Whenever this project is mentioned, many are quick to attribute it to Goodluck Jonathan; the fact is that it was awarded by PDP government but not funded.

The APC, through the administration of President Buhari has sustained funding of the second Niger bridge project to near completion.

According to available information, the bridge will be commissioned for use in 2022.

2. Road Construction

If you know the South East well, you will agree that the Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway is a very important road. Enugu, Okigwe, Umuahia, Aba and Port Harcourt are all major towns along the route.

The road was almost impassable, with potholes and edge cracks, until the APC administration came into power in 2015.

Today, the Enugu-Port Harcourt road is one of the best dual carriage ways in the country.

3. Akanu Ibiam International Airport

The Akanu Ibiam International Airport, also known as the Enugu Airport, was revamped and reopened in August 2020.

President Buhari released N10 billion for reconstruction of the runway and other associated works. The runway of the airport was dilapidated and posed safety threats.

Politics3 Big Issues President Buhari Should Give Immediate Attention by AJohnnasa(op): 6:34am On Aug 16, 2021
President Muhammadu Buhari returned to Abuja on Friday following his 18-day trip to London, United Kingdom (UK).

The President was in London for the recent Global Education Summit co-hosted by the British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson and the Kenyan President, Mr Uhuru Kenyatta.

While Buhari was away, the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo piloted affairs of the nation, and as usual, did a very good job.

As the rejuvenated President resumes duty fully, here are three national issues he should intervene in or give immediate attention.

1. Resident Doctors strike
Resident Doctors in Nigeria are on strike over unpaid salaries, poor working conditions and poor benefits. The strike comes amid a fresh wave of the coronavirus disease which has strained the health sector of the country.

The Minister of Labour has had meetings and negotiations with the striking doctors but none of those has yielded any fruit.

Nigeria recorded its highest number of coronavirus cases in many months as the strike by Resident Doctors nears its third week. Hence, it is wise that the President intervenes in the matter to get the striking doctors back to work at their respective duty posts.

2. Insecurity
Insecurity remains the biggest issue in the country with Boko Haram, bandits, killer herdsmen, and unknown gunmen still carrying out attacks on soft targets.

Attacks on police stations by unknown gunmen in the South East have not ceased either, as gunmen attacked police stations in Nnewi, Anambra State and Oguta in Imo State, three days apart in the same week.

As President Buhari returns to duty, he should meet with Security Chiefs, to demand a report on progress made while he was away.

Politics3 Things APC Can Do To Win Abia State In 2023 by AJohnnasa(op): 10:56am On Aug 15, 2021
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State hopes to wrestle power from the People's Democratic Party (PDP), in 2023

The PDP has won Governorship Elections and held power in the state since the return of democratic dispensation in 1999.

Although the APC was formed [by a merger of several political parties] months before general elections in 2015, the party has been largely successful and victorious in elections across the country, but winning Abia State has been a distant, near-impossible goal.

To change the narrative, the APC sought to register one million new members in Abia State, during the last registration and revalidation exercise of the party. It is not clear at this time whether or not they achieved that, but what is certain is they had new additions, including politicians who dumped the ruling PDP to join them.

Politics being a game of numbers, the APC will look to utilise politicians amongst their members to get the best results in the 2023 general elections.

However, beyond increasing their numbers and hoping to secure enough votes at the polls, the APC in Abia State can do these three things to help them win the state in 2023.

1. Stay united
Unity is one of the many challenges of political parties in Nigeria. The APC in Abia State is currently embroiled in a leadership crisis. The Chairman of the party in the state, Chief Donatus Nwankpa has been at loggerheads with Chief Ikechi Emenike.

Chief Emenike, a chieftain of the party was recently accused of party misconduct and subsequently suspended by the Nwankpa-led Executive Committee two days before the ward congresses in the state.

However, the suspension did not deter Emenike’s camp, as it went ahead to conduct its congresses, supervised by the National Ward Congresses Committee. That act meant that the APC in Abia State held parallel congresses.

For the APC to grab the much elusive seat of power in Abia State, all members of the party in the state has to put their differences aside and work together.

2. Build grassroot support
For the APC to win Abia State in 2023, the party has to mobilise locally and work from the ground up.

The average man on the street in Abia State may not believe that the APC can provide good leadership. Therefore, the onus is on the party to convince residents and indigenes of the state that they truly can do better if given the opportunity.

Politics3 Things INEC Can Do To Reduce Trend Of Factional Leadership In Political Partie by AJohnnasa(op): 4:01pm On Aug 14, 2021
To forestall bickering and crisis in political parties during election periods, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) can take these three measures to mitigate the trend of factional leadership in political parties in Nigeria.

The issue of factional leadership is no longer strange in Nigerian politics, as every major political party in the country has at some point experienced it.

One of the consequences of factional leadership is infighting or disunity in the political party, it could also reduce the chances of such political party doing well in elections.

Beyond that, INEC, as an institution wastes resources or incur losses during election process when they print and/or reprint ballot papers to include or remove names of candidates based on court judgments and pronouncements.

It is another election year, at least, in Anambra State and the trend persists. Until this moment, many are confused as to who the valid candidates are for the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), in the November 6 Governorship Election.

INEC recognises Valentine Ozigbo (for now?) for the PDP, but a certain Ugochukwu Uba is still in court challenging the position. It is the same case between Chukwuma Umeoji and a former governor of CBN, Chukwuma Soludo of APGA.

These issues arose in both parties because there are two persons heading the same position in the party. However, INEC can take these steps to reduce, if not put an end to the issue of factionalisation.

1. Monitor elections
Since congresses produce leaders of various positions in a political party, INEC, as an impartial entity should monitor and be involved in them.

The electoral umpire should be able to know and recognise the authentic leader of every political party, so that the issue of factional candidates will not arise when party primaries for elections are conducted.

Even the law mandates that elections not monitored by INEC should be declared null and void.

Politics4 Ways Abia Govt Can Make Ovom Industrial Cluster Attractive For Mechanics by AJohnnasa(op): 3:47pm On Aug 14, 2021
Abia State Government has given November 2021 as deadline to all roadside mechanics and auto spare parts dealers in Aba to vacate their present locations to the Ovom Industrial and Auto Mechanic Spare Parts Cluster near Ogbor Hill in Aba, Abia State.

The government says the move is to decongest the city, as such businesses in Jubilee, Azikiwe and School Roads are against the Aba Mega Plan.

The project has been hailed in many quarters as a developmental stride, but some are against it for different reasons.

Mechanics, for instance, are of the opinion that they will be vacating their comfort zones to a location that is not at the centre of the city. They also fear that they may not have enough spaces to contain cars of their customers.

For indigenes, it is the manner in which government took over their ancestral lands, to build the cluster, without compensation.

Beyond the challenges and criticisms, the idea behind the cluster is one that comes with several advantages and benefits.

However, Abia State government has to do more than demand that mechanics and auto spare parts dealers move to a new location. The target people have to be convinced that their best interest will be protected at the new site.

Therefore, government can do these four things to make the Ovom Industrial and Auto Mechanic Spare Parts Cluster attractive to the target.

1. Build roads leading to the cluster

Roads leading to the Ovom Industrial Cluster are in bad state. It will make sense if Abia state government constructed them and made sure that they are motorable before the November deadline.

It will not be encouraging for the target people to relocate from the heart of town, where there are relatively good roads, to an area that roads are barely motorable.

It will paint the government in bad light, if roads in that neighbourhood are not constructed.

2. Control flooding of Umuajara village

Umuajara is a community located opposite the Ovom Industrial Cluster. Residents of the community say their lives have not been the same since that project came on board.

Some of the residents and indigenes of the community have gone as far as protesting against the contractor handling the project. They blamed the contractor for floods that have damaged their properties worth millions of naira and sacked many from their houses.

There is a possibility that most of the mechanics and auto spare parts dealers will become residents of Umuajara community when they eventually move to the cluster, hence, it is only right that government works on controlling the flood at the neighbourhood.

Politics5 Reasons Why Abia Govt. Wants To Relocate Mechanics, Spare Parts Dealers Fr Aba by AJohnnasa(op): 3:23pm On Aug 14, 2021
In February 2018, Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu laid the foundation for the Ovom Auto Industrial and Mechanic Spare Parts Cluster, which is located in Ovom, Ogbor Hill area, in Obingwa LGA.

The cluster which houses over 2000 shops is expected to create at least 5000 direct jobs, which will in turn enhance the economy of the state.

According to the Permanent Secretary, Abia State Ministry of Industries, Engr Nkuma Emea Mba, the industrial cluster project was conceived after Abia State Government saw that mechanics and spare parts dealers were scattered on Jubilee Road, School Road, Azikiwe Road and its environs whereas the Aba Master Plan designed those places to be residential areas.

They also observed that mechanics were littering the gutters and walkways with debris and mechanical items, which caused the gutters to usually fill up and overflow on the roads. Therefore, government sought to relocate mechanics and spare parts dealers away from the city, to a modern facility befitting of their job.

The project which has lasted over three years is due to be completed in November, but it is already generating a lot of reactions from residents and its target occupants.

Below are five reasons why Abia State Government wants to relocate mechanics and auto spare parts dealers and how it could benefit them.

1. To recover residential area
Jubilee, Azikiwe, and School Roads were originally designed to house residents and not for businesses such as mechanic workshops and auto spare parts.

The government wants to relocate these businesses to the Ovom Industrial Cluster to recover residential areas that have been lost for decades.

2. To decongest the city
When the target occupants of the industrial cluster relocate from the heart of Aba, the city will be decongested and it would become easier to clear gutters and water channels for easy flow.

Also, their relocation will make for easy beautification of Aba metropolis.

3. To help protect businesses
The industrial cluster will enable mechanics and spare parts dealers own their shops. It will eliminate the risk of a dealer having to lose his location because his landlord chooses to erect a building on the land where he does his business.

After a mechanic or spare parts dealer processes the ownership of a shop, it becomes his asset which can be passed down to his children.

Politics3 Reasons Why Uche Secondus Should Remain As PDP National Chairman by AJohnnasa(op): 1:38pm On Aug 11, 2021
Following several calls for his resignation, Prince Uche Secondus insists that he will not resign his position as the National Chairman of the People's Democratic Party (PDP).

After a meeting of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the PDP, the party said Secondus was preoccupied with remaining as the Chairman of the party than the next general elections.

Although it is not public why some top members of the PDP want Secondus to resign his position, it may not be unconnected with loss of members and states to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Under Secondus, the PDP has lost Ebonyi, Cross River, Zamfara, Osun and Imo states.

Here are three reasons why Uche Secondus should remain as the national chairman of the PDP at least until his tenure expires in December 2021.

1. Seats won

If Secondus is being judged by the number of states the PDP has lost under him, the party should also look at the states they won with him as the Chairman. States like Edo, Benue, Oyo, and Adamawa were held by the APC they became PDP states with Secondus at the helm.

Bello Matawalle was in the PDP until his defection to the APC sometime last month. In fact, he won the seat as Governor of Zamfara State under Secondus.

2. No real reason for demanding his resignation

If there were real reasons as to why some members of the PDP want Secondus out, the party BoT, NWC, NEC or caucuses should have pointed them out. They could jerk him back on track by demanding that he sits up or be more charismatic and vibrant like an Adams Oshiomhole, for instance, but they have not done such.

The party, including sitting governors should be able to guide Secondus, not leave him to wallow in his own stew, at the end of the day they point out things he did not do well.

Politics3 Reasons Why Ayo Fayose Should Be Made PDP National Chairman by AJohnnasa(op): 1:15pm On Aug 11, 2021
The former governor of Ekiti State, Peter Ayodele Fayose could be the best man to set the People's Democratic Party (PDP) aright if given the opportunity to serve as national chairman.

The leaders of PDP have fixed the end of October for national elective convention amidst increasing calls for the resignation of the embattled national chairman of the party, Uche Secondus.

Below are three reasons why the PDP should consider Ayo Fayose for the position of national chairman.

1. Vocal

Before the All Progressives Congress (APC) came into power, Lai Mohammed, who was the then National Secretary of the party was very vocal. It was as though he had statements prepared for every policy dished out by Goodluck Jonathan. He was always in the faces of the PDP led government.

Fayose is exactly like that. When he was the governor of Ekiti State, he was mostly vocal that it seemed like he was the PDP spokesperson. He never for once held back his thoughts about state of the nation.

2. Dogged

The PDP needs someone who is as tenacious as Fayose. A person who is tit for tat, a no-nonsense person, a push-me-I-push-you kind of person.

The chairman of the main opposition party should be like the president of a pseudogovernment. He should always be heard and always be seen. Such quality will put the government in power in check.

Politics3 Politicians Who Dumped PDP To Help APC Win 2023 Elections In Abia State by AJohnnasa(op): 1:30pm On Aug 09, 2021
From the inception of democratic rule, states in Nigeria have had a dominant political party where leaders emerge in different elective positions in every election cycle. For Abia State, it is the People's Democratic Party (PDP).

The PDP has 'reigned supreme' in Abia State since 1999. From Orji Uzor Kalu to Theodore Orji, down to Okezie Ikpeazu, the PDP has always won the governorship elections.

Although T. A. Orji won the 2007 governorship election with the Progressive People's Alliance (PPA), he later returned to the PDP.

It is the same story in the legislature, as representatives at both state and national levels have come from the PDP.

The APC has five seats out of 35, a statistics the party Iooks to change in the 2023 general elections.

The party welcomed new members at their last registration and revalidation exercise in the state, including former big names from the PDP: Rt. Hon. Uzor Azubuike, Hon. Blessing Nwagba, and Obinna Oriaku.

1. Rt. Hon Uzor Azubuike
Uzor Azubuike was a two-time member at the Abia State House of Assembly (between 2003 and 2011), where he represented Aba Central Constituency. He also served as the Deputy Speaker of the House within that period.

In 2011, he won election into the House of Representatives to represent Aba North/Aba South Federal Constinuency at the 7th Assembly.

In 2015, he was appointed the Abia State Commissioner for Agriculture, the post he held until 2019.

He was the PDP flagbearer for Aba North/Aba South Federal Constinuency for the 2019 general elections.

He headed party congresses in several states and undertook several assignments for the PDP.

However, on 12th July 2021, Hon. Azubuike declared that he was joining the APC "to help reposition Abia State for better National integration".

Politics3 Reasons Why The Sit-at-home Order In The South East Will Fail by AJohnnasa(op): 11:26pm On Aug 08, 2021
The Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB) announced that starting from Monday, 9 August, 2021 indigenes, residents, and visitors in southeastern Nigeria will sit at home every Monday.

According to the group, the sit-at-home action is to show solidarity with their leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, as well as to protest his continued detention.

The proscribed group warned that all public and private institutions including airports, transport companies, banks, schools etc., must be shut down to observe the sit-at-home. They also threatened to deal with anyone who flouts the order.

The sit-at-home exercise has been criticised extensively in many quarters for its rashness and lack of sincerity of purpose.

However, here are two reasons why I the sit-at-home order by IPOB will fail:

1. Hunger

The Igbos are known majorly for trading and other forms of business. However, a large majority of the populace in the southeast depend on daily income businesses for survival.

Take for instance, the average akara woman or food seller on the street. How do you think they and their families will cope if they failed to go out in one day?

If the example above did not do justice to the point, imagine hawkers or truck/wheelbarrow pushers, who could only eat when they go out to carry loads for others for a fee.

These set of people who can only afford a meal when they work are expected to sit at home and do nothing for one whole day?

Granted, they may give in on the first day of the sit-at-home exercise and maybe on the second day, but what is the guarantee that they will continue to sit at home every Monday if no one took care of their needs?

I reckon they will simply ignore the order and hit the streets.

PoliticsIbb's Statement On Agitation Does NOT Support Nnamdi Kanu's Secession Agenda by AJohnnasa(op): 6:56am On Aug 08, 2021
Former Head of State, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, popularly known as IBB, while speaking on the state of the nation with Arise TV recently, said "it is always good to agitate".

In the interview, the Nigerian Army General also gave his view on 2023 elections and the qualities he wishes to see in the person who will emerge as the next president of Nigeria. However since video of the interview surfaced, different people have twisted his opinion on secessionist agitation to suit their interests.

The self-acclaimed leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has pushed for the independence of the Igbo people of Southeast, Nigeria and some parts of South South for many years, disregarding several warnings by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Many members of the secessionist group, IPOB have continued to quote the statement by Babangida in part and out of context, to mean that the elder statesman supports their call for an independent country.

However, Nnamdi Kanu is not the only Nigerian pushing for a breakaway. Sunday Adeyamo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho with his calls for Yoruba Nation, is another person on the list of secessionists.

To fully understand what Babangida meant by that statement, it is important to read the whole message. Therefore, let us revisit that part for the purposes of clarity:

"It's always good to agitate but because there is this belief that this country should be one when they make the noise, they find that it won’t get supported because Nigerians generally don’t believe in anything that would disturb their peace of mind. They won’t do it."

From the statement above, we deduce that Babangida meant that even though it is the right of a person to seek or demand what they feel is due to them, it is not constitutional to want to secede from Nigeria, as Article 2 of the 1999 Constitution states clearly that Nigeria is one indivisible and indissoluble sovereign state.

It is still 2021 but meetings, consultations and whatnot are already in force for politicians hoping to clinch seats of power in 2023. Soon enough, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will give the all clear for electioneering campaigns to begin and when that happens, we will see politicians move from city to city and from state to state to make promises to citizens in a bid to secure their votes.

Earlier today, I saw an election campaign poster of the first democratically elected President of Nigeria, Shehu Usman Aliyu Shagari, wherein he promised water, electricity, qualitative education among other things. The said election campaign poster dates back to 1983.

38 years on, most of our politicians still campaign with exact same things, having done little to nothing to effect the change the citizenry desire.

As elder statesman, Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida has listed some of the qualities he wishes to see in the person who will become the next President of Nigeria, other well-meaning Nigerians wish, nay, desire to have a man or woman who will be brave enough to tackle issues bedevilling the country, be it political, economic, social or security.

Good roads, portable water, and electricity are as basic as the word itself. They are rights of every citizen but those have proved a holy grail for our politicians.

Therefore, beyond good roads, water and electricity, whoever wishes to become the next President of Nigeria should do well to create jobs/employment, provide food and security, as these are the three basic needs of almost every Nigerian citizen today.

1. Security

Insecurity is a major challenge plaguing the country. From North to South, to the East, there are pockets of insecurity. If it is not Boko Haram, it is killer herdmen, banditary, kidnapping or unknown gunmen.

Despite the huge amount of money expended in the fight against insurgency and the lives of gallant soldiers lost, groups like Boko Haram/ISWAP and bandits still hold sway in parts of north Nigeria. When you move down south, you hear about kidnappers and unknown gunmen.

Lately, law enforcement agents have become targets, as we have witnessed several attacks that took the lives of these men and women in uniform.

We only read about Hushpuppy statement.

We are even yet to read from Vincent the guy that was claimed to be arrested on behalf of Hush to corroborate with the story.

Hushpuppy has suddenly become a reverend father, that his version of the story is reliable enough to prosecute others without hearing from them..
Did you read the transcript? If your answer is "No," please, shut up.

PoliticsCriticisms About President Buhari's Medical Trip Abroad Are Unfair by AJohnnasa(op):
There have been heavy criticisms since news broke that President Muhammadu Buhari will visit his doctors in London.

Many say it is shameful for the President of a country with qualified doctors in hospitals where billions are budgeted yearly to travel abroad to check his health. Others say it amounts to hypocrisy for someone who promised to end medical tourism during his electioneering campaigns in 2015 to turn around to do the exact same thing he campaigned against.

In the President's defence, Femi Adesina say Buhari has used these doctors for over 40 years. The President himself said the same thing years ago, when he was interviewed by Christiane Amanpour of CNN.

In such wise, I agree that President Buhari should continue to use those doctors, as I see nothing wrong with him going back to them for checks.

Of course, I am for improved healthcare systems in Nigeria. I support a Nigeria where government funded hospitals and primary healthcare centres are in line with what is obtainable in Europe, Asia and America; and I support the training of doctors and/or specialists on the use of technologically advanced machineries for improved medical services. However, the issue of trust is important.

Why do you think that a pregnant woman goes back to the same hospital where she preciously gave birth? If a pregnant uses a hospital and she is comfortable with the services she received, she will go back there the next time she is pregnant, irrespective of anything. It will not matter to her if she has friends or family members who are medical doctors and can offer the same service in another hospital.

This is the same case with President Buhari. He has been with these set of doctors for a while and he is comfortable with them, so why change?

If we are to be truthful, everyone would want the best healthcare they could afford, irrespective of the destination.

If an ordinary citizen of Nigeria can fly abroad for medical treatment, why do we expect Buhari to not do the same simply because he is president?

Buhari can afford medicare in London and he has been with those doctors before he became the President of Nigeria. Those doctors know his medical history, they understand his body, and Buhari himself trusts them. Therefore, it is unfair to ask him to stop now.

The only lesson to learn is that the Fulani Muslims are engaging in deliberate economic sabotage of the Southern tribes.

They have killed our farmers. They have killed the young men.

Now they are targeting Southern business in Northern Cities.

We need to respond effectively, through a common front.
How did you arrive at the conclusion that this is an act of economic sabotage by the Fulani?
Business4 Lessons Learnt From The Ebeano Supermarket CCTV Footage by AJohnnasa(op): 11:11pm On Jul 26, 2021
In a CCTV footage widely shared on social media, a girl is seen setting a section of Ebeano Supermarket on fire. Wares worth billions of naira were burnt to ashes and black powder in the inferno that ravaged the facility in Abuja.

The police have identified the arsonist as a 9-year-old girl, and have since arrested and taken her in for questioning.

However, this article is not about who did what or if the girl acted alone. Rather, it is about what could have been done or what should be put in place to prevent incidents like that in the future.

Please, note that this article does NOT in any way apportion blame to the management of Ebeano Supermarket, neither does it justify arson.

The following are four lessons learnt from the fire incident, as well as a list of items that could have helped nip the fire in its bud and subsequently prevent the supermarket from losing billions of naira in wares:

1. Facilities should install smoke detectors

A mall as big as Ebeano Supermarket should have smoke detectors installed in the facility.

If you looked closely at the photo above, you would notice that even before flames became visible, there were lots of smoke. A smoke detector would have sent a signal to the fire alarm control panel or issued an audible alarm to staff and/or management of the supermarket.

2. Fire sprinkler system is important

A fire sprinkler is an automatic fire extinguisher installed in the ceilings of a building. If Ebeano Supermarket had this installed, water from the sprinklers would have doused the fire within minutes and there would have been limited loss incurred.

3. Fire extinguishers should be handy

This item comes handy in emergency situations like the subject under review. It is used to control small fires or fires that have not reached the ceiling.

The photo above shows that the fire had not gotten out of hand at the point when a staff of the supermarket noticed it. The staff took off immediately, assumedly to get a fire extinguisher to douse the fire.

The management of the supermarket could have done better. For a business that big, fire extinguishers should have be placed in all the rows.
