Politics › Re: I Saved For Years To Buy My Wife’s G-wagon Car Gift – Gbajabiamila by ak22(m): 9:08pm On May 31, 2018 |
nwakibie3: A member of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has defended his much talked about car gift to his wife.
The lawmaker trended on social media for days after a photo and video of a brand new Benz G-Wagon he got his wife surfaced online.
The lawmaker presented the surprise gift on May 27 at an event to commemorate her 50th birthday .
But you are collecting more than 15m per month? please if na play make you stop ham ooooo . because I dey quick to vex
Reacting in a statement on Thursday, Mr Gbajabiamila said he saved for “a couple of years” to buy his wife the luxury vehicle.
He said the presentation was meant to be a family affair. However, it was delayed and arrived when guests were already around.
His statement partly read, “My attention has been drawn to the extensive reports especially on social media regarding the presentation of a gift to my wife and best friend in celebration of her 50th birthday anniversary.
Naturally I had anticipated this occasion for quite a while and prepared by saving up for it in the last couple of years. I took the decision far back to present her with a significant gift, she was totally unaware of, to convey in part, the debt of my gratitude to her for standing by me through ‘thick and thin’. I could never have been half the man I am today without her support and unbelievable understanding. Truly, the monetary value of any gift real or imagined, pales in significance when I consider how much of a ‘rock and pillar’ she has been to me.
“The presentation of the gift contrary to public perception, was to be a family affair in our home but it suffered some delays finally arriving when a number of guests were in to celebrate with my wife. It still would have remained a private affair, but I guess we underestimated the power of social media and very excited friends.
“Having said this, I understand and appreciate the reaction of the public. As a public official, one must be held to a higher standard. My action was not meant to offend sensibilities and I regret that it did.
“Being a leader in many spheres, I can very well understand the optics of it. But I would rather want it to be seen as what it is-an expression of deep appreciation and love for my wife of almost thirty years, rather than one of flamboyance.
“I remain truly committed to my values of improving lives for my constituents and Nigerians at large. As the records will show, I have consistently expended much more in achieving this goal especially within my constituency, than I spend on my wife.”

Politics › Re: 2019: "I Can Win With APGA" - Okorocha Admits Losing Control Of State APC by ak22(m): 10:04pm On May 23, 2018 |
Leopantro: Imo state governor, Rochas Okorocha, said he can win election in the state, if still a member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA.
Okorocha spoke at the Imo government house, chapel in Owerri, while he was addressing Imo youths, on the day of the APC state congress. He also said that the Imo APC stakeholders led by Senator Ifeanyi Araraume, deceived his deputy governor, Eze Madumere as well as commissioners.
According to Okorocha, “In the days of APGA and how we were able to win victory and how we were able to get victory, despite the fact that all the political Juggernauts were not on our side. It was made possible by you the youths of Imo state. “We struggled in APGA, there was no one with us just like it is today and we won them at that time there was an incumbent governor, by name Ohakim, with a presidential PDP, with all the Army but we resisted them and won them.”
The governor bragged that, “From APGA, we felt that it was important that we join the National party, we didn’t have to leave APGA, if we were in APGA, we would have still won our election. “By the time, we left APGA for APC, all these people were not with us but the youths are with us. I consulted some of you before I moved to APC. “They called us all sorts of names. They gave me all kinds of names, making it difficult to win the election. With Goodluck supporting the deputy speaker, Emeka Ihedioha, to win the election. I was with God and I won the election.
“But in APC, these men came and deceived my deputy governor and former SGI and commissioners and took them away. They thought when the take them away they will end rescue mission. They did not know that there are super ones still in the rescue mission government.”

Politics › Re: 'I Declare You The Next Ekiti Governor' - Fayose Prays For Deputy, Eleka(video) by ak22(m): 7:18am On May 22, 2018 |
I raise this issue in order to show how deep this negative perception has penetrated the public psyche. Unfortunately, he still has holes to patch in his relationship with those who could rise to his defence, especially his political defence. I mean those who worked with him on his rise to power. He must patch those holes as soon as possible.

Politics › Re: 'I Declare You The Next Ekiti Governor' - Fayose Prays For Deputy, Eleka(video) by ak22(m): 7:16am On May 22, 2018 |
Fourth, it was Fayemi who first brought to our notice a crucial aspect of democratic renewal through elections. While enduring the agony of unexpected defeat, he gave a gracious concession speech after losing re-election in 2014: “I have just spoken with my brother, Mr. Peter Ayodele Fayose, congratulating him on his victory. In a few hours from now, I would be meeting the Governor-elect to discuss the future of our dear state and how we would work together to institute a smooth transition programme.” Fayemi took the path of honour, by keeping his promise. How his successor decided to pay him back is a different question.
Fifth, his current national service as Minister has given him access to the inner workings of the federal cabinet. He will be in a better position than other contenders to deploy that knowledge to Ekiti’s advantage.
Another major factor behind my endorsement is Fayemi’s acknowledgement of his mistakes in the past and his promise to make amends as necessary. As Socrates demonstrated, knowledge begins with the acknowledgement of our ignorance. Similarly, redemption begins with the acknowledgement of our mistakes.
Although Fayemi’s apology for “errors of omission or commission” was specifically tied to his first term as governor and directed to the people of Ekiti in his acceptance speech, after winning the governorship primary on May 12, 2018, it is well-known in political circles that those “errors” have spread beyond Ekiti State.
This leads to the first condition attached to this endorsement. Just as Fayemi seeks to appease Ekiti people for their votes, he must link up with his roots in the leadership of his party in the South-West. No politician endures who forgets about their starting point or seeks alignment with the centre without solidifying their base.
The second condition has to do with image branding. A lot of negative campaigning has been going on about Fayemi that I found incongruous with my personal knowledge of him. However, when I tried to place such negative perceptions with Fayemi’s unnecessary distance from those who had worked with him on his rise to power, I had to pause and re-examine the evidence before me.
The truth is that Fayemi has a carriage, which gives the impression that he is galloping on “power” springs. There is a certain air of authority about him that easily could be misconstrued as condescension. When I told someone else that I never experienced that negative aspect about him, his response was highly instructive: “He won’t t do it to you or me because he knows we are one up on him. We could have been his lecturer when he was in the university”. |
